  1. Light sabers have been banned from screenings. They might make audiences "uncomfortable".
  2. I thought that was Adam Schiff (played by Steven Hill)? Arthur was savvy, but way smoother. Either way, he will be missed.
  3. The Six Million Dollar Man marathons on Esquire must be doing well enough to bring the movie reboot. I had a hunch it was coming. If they play it straight and remain true to the spirit of the original (and maybe a cameo or two of surviving cast members), it might work. I do however remember how much they screwed up the Bionic Woman reboot, so hopes will be kept in check. The GAH reboot is destined for failure based on what I read. Firstly, it's going to be a half hour comedy. No, it should be an hour long dramedy/adventure show. I can picture Bruce Campbell as Bill Maxwell (believe it or not!). Second of all, it doesn't look like it's going to get to the point in which [Ralph Hinckley] will get to grow as a hero, but bumble forever despite how long he's had the suit.
  4. I recommend cinnamon. I use this brand (which also has milk thistle for the liver), but you can also get this brand which you should be able to find at any drug store. If not, it's definitely available online. Make sure to take it about 20 minutes before a meal (and if you feel your sugar to be particularly high due to all the holiday sweets, take two capsules before bedtime). It will help regulate your pancreas' insulin production so the sugar you take in doesn't turn into fat. The trouble is we depend on sugar for energy when we should be burning fat for energy. For exercise, I recommend DDP Yoga - which will be a good way to get workouts in that are short but effective and can be done at home.
  5. I adored Al! I knew him as Al first before seeing him in repeats of The Odd Couple (where he played Murray the cop). I also seem to remember him playing in a paper towel commercial in the late 80s/very early 90s. He was 96? Wow! I had no idea he was that old! R.I.P. Mr. Molinaro.
  6. I remember before the second film was released, I'd read a magazine article in which the question was posed about what became of the "other Marty" (aka "Marty 2") since Original Marty created a paradox by changing the time he returned to 1985 (and witnessed himself going to 1955). The writer thought THAT Marty still succeeded in getting his parents together but ended up in the first reality (Mom the drunk, loser sibs, Dad still being walked over by Biff and likely everyone else). I remember feeling sad for him until BTTF 2 explained what happened. This didn't bother me; Linda graduated the previous year (the "Class of '84" shirt she wore in the photo) and was likely a college student, so her living at home made perfect sense. Dave was older than her (not sure by how much - maybe 3 years), so he would have graduated College and got a great office job, but being that Hilldale was in CA, I always thought he still lived at home until he could afford to move out. Way better than the old reality in which he was working in a fast food joint making minimum wage.
  7. OK - that animation was creepy. Who needs monsters when I have that for Halloween?! For the record, blackstrap molasses is good for you. Wheatgerm bread optional but I wouldn't eat it! Ha ha. I'll bet there wasn't a grey hair in the area for decades!
  8. I'm just discovering this. Which brand do you go with? Right now, since I'm in the experimental stage, I picked up Carrington Farms brand. Best of all - Walmart sells it! It has all the things to look for - organic, virgin, cold pressed, etc. . I had been told Nutiva is also a good brand, but I wanted to start small. I did get to use it for cooking - fried up eggs this morning. I even tried it straight! Many sites state one should consume about 2-4 tablespoons a day. It's also supposed to help with weight loss and immunity issues. It can also be used as a hair conditioner, although I don't have the courage to work it into my hair and wear a cap all night! It's apparently also good for your pets - to help with their health and coats. It almost seems too good to be true. Speaking of hair, I've been told blackstrap molasses is a good source for vitamins. Plus - according to a few sites, it's good to turn grey hair back to it's natural color! I've been taking one tablespoon a day of Plantation brand (it has trace amounts of copper, which is the secret to the hair color issue) but it takes up to 6 months to see a difference. I'm in month two. If I can save a few bucks with my hair colorist, I'm all for molasses! It's not hard to find, most stores carry it. If it doesn't work I may consider supplements like this one. One biggie when taking the molasses is to make sure you get unsulfered. Otherwise, you could find yourself bleeding a bit more heavily. I have found health improvement through apple cider vinegar. I buy Bragg's brand. I drink it as a tonic: 2 teaspoons mixed with 8oz distilled/purified water 2-3 times daily. To protect against any potential enamel damage, drink it via a straw. If you drink it from the glass, wait a few minutes then rinse your mouth. Bragg's can be found in most supermarkets - usually it's in the same area where salad oil and vinegar would be. I use various other supplements - like cinnamon (for blood sugar, and controlling cravings), tumeric (a cancer fighter and blood purifier) and one for joints/cartilege rebuilding. Several supplements I buy here although I also buy other supplements elsewhere. I highly recommend his book as well - which names the best supplements to use - and they're not necessarily his products either, should you choose not to buy them. For eyes I strongly recommend Carotenall. Although my eyesight recently went from 20/20 to 20/40, I began taking it and it did offer some improvement. Hopefully it will prevent them from getting any worse. I'm looking into doing eye exercises to improve them further. ETA: Went for my annual eye exam yesterday afternoon - the doctor noticed improvement and I'm back to 20/20 again! Whoo hoo!!
  9. Was Christy Marx involved with this at all? Was she even considered? Half their problems would have been solved if she had been. She could have kept the premise honest. I don't. If he did watch it, he'd have known the film that was made bore no resemblance to the original show on which it was based. He slapped "Jem" on a film with an entirely different premise.
  10. Not the first time I've heard this. I give them a bit of a pass since
  11. Didn't know this was an unpopular opinion. I enjoy it as well. I also saw it on Broadway way back in the day. My only annoyance with it was the use of "Damn it" in the film (when Burnett's "Miss Hannigan" uses it to demand her brother, "Rooster" to let Annie go as he chases her on the drawbridge), as I thought it was unnecessary (it wasn't in the stage version either). I don't believe this. It's not as if black characters hadn't appeared in prominent roles in Star Wars before (Lando Calrissian and Mace Windu). Hell, the voice of Darth Vader has been personified by a black actor (James Earl Jones). I'm thinking there's more to this story.
  12. If the movie had been closer to the original animated series it still could have appealed to both generations. Sure, the Gen X moms would go, but the characters and base storyline of the original concept would still ring with tweens/teens too.
  13. I know. What I meant was people are going to see Luke, Leia, et al 30+ years older. They are not going expressly to see the new people. Tell that to the folks behind the "Annie" remake.
  14. Ditto. I thought the 12 sec mini trailer (which contained a scene from the 2nd full trailer) was a bad sign; I'm guessing the new leads are going to be dull as dishwater. Let's face it, people want to see the original cast.
  15. Update: I'm still on Metabolic Meals and keeping up with almost totally omitting starches (except sweet potatoes) and supplements (cinnamon, et al). I've lost 40 lbs since August!
  16. Not to worry - they're closing their stores. Many of their employees didn't know until local media reported it!
  17. Noooo! Not Corey Wells!! I'll say goodbye to Corey, by way of this song he recorded prior to his time with Three Dog Night. Like a lot of good songs, it got lost in the shuffle of the great tunes of 1965.
  18. As another Billy Joel fan, I never thought of the song as a R.E.M. ripoff. Still don't. I still enjoy listening to it and think it's as relevant as it ever was. In fact, there have been times when I would love to hear a "We Didn't Start The Fire Pt. 2" which picks up on the major historic events since the late 80s.

    Musical Pet Peeves

Sad, but true. I remember attending a Peter Paul & Mary concert in the 90s and they were as good as they ever were! Paul Stookey addressed the crowd between songs and mentioned how watching him perform and saying how "grandfatherly" of him it was to see an older man playing guitar in folk music. Then he went on to joke about how different it was for rockers about his age doing the same thing in leather pants! He definitely got a few laughs from the audience.
  20. Still one of my all time favorite films! Even if the sequels mysteriously vanished, it still works on every level. Truth be told, neither did I until recently. This essay explains it. Damn, now I'm depressed. It's official: Biff screwed the Cubs out of the World Series Championships! I wonder if TPTB could pull a George Lucas and redo the scene in BTTF 2 showing the Mets winning? ETA: Just found this - perked me up again.
  21. As someone with 15 years experience in the TV news business, you've got that backward. The media is only as conservative as their progressive corporate owners allow them to be.
  22. I think I can beat that one: The kids who come from "underprivileged" neighborhoods and are bussed to nicer neighborhoods for the spoils. To top it off, they're rude ("Gimmie some!!") and never say thank you. After a few seasons of this, neighbors don't want to do it anymore and turn the lights off - spoiling it for the whole neighborhood. I actually didn't mind getting raisins when I was trick or treating. The ones that got me mad were little old ladies who gave out pennies. Maybe back in the old days 3 cents meant something to a kid. Unfortunately I was living in the age of inflation.
  23. But it took him 6 months to get an appointment so he took a medical tour to the US. I enjoyed the song but the movie was.... weird. I'll never forget the line in the local TV guide (newspaper version) which described the plot thusly: "You can base a film on a book, but you can't base it on a lyric." After watching it once, it just made no sense and the ending was a little dumb. In the song no one knew why Billy Joe jumped or what he or [the singer] had thrown from the bridge prior. The screenwriters thought they'd give the answer as Billy Joe having had a homosexual affair and feeling torn up over it. Then the girl, tells another person in town that she was leaving. When asked why, she said the townsfolk would get suspicious that Billy Joe died and she left shortly thereafter - which would lead them to the false conclusion she was pregnant out of wedlock and had to save face (the movie was set in the 1950s). Therefore she wanted them to think there was an offspring of Billy Joe somewhere and leave 'em with a bit of mystery. Seemed stupid to me.
  24. You'd be correct. I had read that 50 years ago, a CEO would make about 10 times what the average worker made. Today it's well over 100 times. That's not including "golden parachutes". I'm not saying they're not necessarily worth being paid 7 figure salaries, since CEOs to the best of my knowledge do not lay back in their chairs and smoke cigars all day. They are responsible to a lot of people to make the money come in and keep the business running and growing. I do believe Big Business has focused too much on money alone; essentially, they've become eager to make a profit at all costs. Kind of like the medical professional lacking in bedside manners.
