  1. I am not sure that it is fair to say Caitlyn is pressured to wear makeup. I agree that there is enormous pressure on women to strive to look their best, particularly those in the media, but it may be that Kaitlyn feels relief at getting to do this after not being able to for so long. Even if she criticizes how women are viewed in the media, it is kind of unfair to expect her to ignore the pressures. What celebrity woman would go on the cover of Vanity Fair these days without photoshop, makeup, or hair styling?
  2. This is such a weird thing to say. Even if NG were looking to defend him, "charismatic" is the last word I would use to describe any of the dull Duggars, especially creepy blah lumpy Josh. I have never seen much personality from him.
  3. This is just background noise for me at this point. The only time I looked up and was glad I did was when Jaclyn's fluffy orange cat was shown.
  4. I'll play. Least favorite characters? Dogan, the other Other with the John Lennon glasses, Charlie (sorry), Mr. Eko (really sorry), and Zoe. The others and Zoe because they felt pointless to me by season six, and I felt that they were taking away valuable time from the characters I genuinely cared about. Charlie just annoyed the hell out of me, Mr. Eko bored the hell out of me. Favorite characters? Juliet, Jack (I love him for the snark he induced across the fandom and also just because I do love him), Locke because he was so instrumental in it all, Sayid because he was the sane one, and Widmore and Ben because they were magnificent assholes. Honestly, unlike many, I have a hard time picking out favorites, I genuinely liked most of these characters because they were so flawed. I'll skip to least fave romances. Sayid and Nadia, because he felt guilt about their relationship and it seemed like that was its primary foundation. Sayid and Shannon because well, I would not buy him putting up with her. And I say that as someone that liked Shannon. The triangle, I like Kate more now, but both men brought out the worst in her and vice versa. I kind of shipped her with Sayid. Charlie and Claire because I could not stand him. Fave would be relationships/actual relationships? Jin and Sun as the show went on. Bernard and Rose. I wish we had seen more of Eloise and Widmore. Juliet and Sawyer. I like the dramatic romance of Desmond and Penny, but in real life I would probably side eye her for being with him after leaving for so long. My season rankings: 1, 4, 5, 6, 3, and 2. I do love the show overall and each season has its' merits. One was the best planned I think and the characters seemed new and fresh, we weren't on Kate's and Jack's sixth flashback at that point. Four was great because it was short, tight, felt cinematic, had a very cohesive season wide plot, and I loved how many groups were running around the island interacting. Five was just fun for me, because it felt like it was the point were the show just decided it was going to be completely insane. Six, I actually liked, but I far preferred the sideways world to the island stuff, so I can't rate it as high. Three was messy to me in a bad way. Too much going on with no answers. Two, the same, and I hated the beginning of the season when episodes would overlap, like we saw Kate, Locke, and Jack going into the hatch in 5 different episodes. I didn't mind Desmond or the Tailies, but it was around this point when I was getting tired of the main character's flashbacks. In fairness to 2, it did air at a weird time in my life so it was hard to pay attention to it during the time, and on rewatch, I did enjoy it. I love all the seasons, but this was the one I loved the least, if that makes sense. I think I missed a few, but I might come back to this later. Overall, I loved Lost and I miss this bonkers mess of a show so much.
  5. I don't really see the issue with the name Caitlyn. Yes, it was not around until the 80's, but from what I understand the 80's was about the time Bruce originally considered transitioning. I don't blame Caitlyn for selecting a name that was popular then and popular now. I don't quite think it fits appearance wise personally, but what the hell do I know, Caitlyn has not really exposed her personality yet.
  6. The drinking game idea is a good one, but I don't need a game for the Duggars to drive me to drink. Or need desserts to make myself feel better.
  7. Agreed. And I have seen parents post the defenses floating around for Josh. There are idiots and good people in every group. I don't expect much from the interview, just because I can't see JB and Michelle not micromanaging it.
  8. Beautiful! And I love that it is Caitlyn with a C, feels like an up yours to the Kardashians.
  9. Megyn doesn't have the crunchy early 90s curls that JB favors. Nike won't be necessary for this.
  10. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/05/28/the-unbearable-whiteness-of-cameron-crowe-s-aloha-a-hawaii-set-film-starring-asian-emma-stone.html Emma Stone is playing a part Hawaiian, part Chinese woman named Allison Ng. Obviously there was no one else available to play that role.
  11. Bumping this.... Lana is my guilty pleasure. She has a new album coming out this Sept, and rumor has it Mark Ronson is producing. I think that will be a real change from Ultraviolence, and I am so looking forward to it.
  12. I hated Bad Blood on the album, but Kendrick Lamar makes it almost tolerable. Honestly, he is the person that I am most impressed that Taylor roped into the whole thing. Weirdly, it reminds me very much of a Katy Perry song. I could see it being one of her songs much more than a Taylor Swift song. I would almost think she used the style on purpose to make fun of Katy, had she not released it as a single. Also, John Mayer may help Katy write a song about Taylor now. Great. They are all assholes.
  13. It is such a great quote, just for the narm and over the top-ness of Drug Addict!Bearded! Jack. Eta: another best/worst moment that I quote a lot is Kate's "I don't DO taco night!" The drama of it all! And Evie's acting, which definitely was good at times, was not the best for selling it.
  14. I am also really doubtful that the show will be cancelled.I want it to, don't get me wrong, but I think the Duggars still have a lot of support out there. I think TLC is laying low on this and waiting it out. I don't think Josh will be back but I think the show will eventually be back in some form.
  15. I haven't seen Mad Max yet (want to though!) and have mixed feelings about what Anita is saying. Ideally, yes, to me a feminist sci fi/future world would not consist of women having to escape sexual victimization. To me, that is an overdone trope and it would be nice to see some imagination used by filmmakers who create new worlds and see something different from a patriarchal society. And I am with her on not needing to see women take over stereotypical "badass cool guys don't look at explosions" male action archetypes, because well, that doesn't really seem to be a realistic characterization for either sex. We have seen women doing that already too in a lot of action movies, and it would be nice to see something different. However, it sounds to me from reviews the movie is a lot more than that, and the characterization of the wives shows women who are not just emotionless badasses. It doesn't sound like Furiosa has that characterization either. Furthermore, any characterization of a women in an action movie beyond damsel in distress is a good thing. From what I hear, the movie passes the Bechdel test, and while that is not a perfect test, that is unusual for an action movie. And to be honest, I am uncomfortable with anyone saying something is blakently not feminist. My perfect feminist movie is different from Anita's probably, and her's is different than yours. There is nothing wrong with variations in ideals. Anyway, that is a lot of thoughts on a movie I haven't seen.
  16. It may be wishful thinking, but I hope that Derrick is not so deep into the Duggarness that therapy is off the table. They could use counseling to help them through all of this.
  17. Unfortunately, I don't think their credibility is completely ruined. I am seeing people post and like defenses of the Duggars (Josh and the parents, not defending the girls) using terms like progressive witch hunt on Facebook. Even if the show is cancelled, there will be people out there who support them and will even feel sorry them.
  18. I don't care how cute people think the Teen Mom babies are or how interested people are in the Kate Plus 8 kids' lives, I do not think kids should be on reality TV. They are too young to be able to consent to having the world know their lives and be googled later by employers and future dates. Adults, whatever, but kids can't make that choice. And in light of the recent Duggar controversy and the Mama June stuff, I can't trust most parents who do make that choice for their kids.
  19. I was going to say this too. This also indicates to me that Anna did not know the extent of what was going on. The statement a few pages back seems to me to indicate that Josh felt lustful feelings as a teenager, not that he committed abuse. To me, this seems like flowery language used by the Duggars to describe what normal teenagers feel, and I could see Josh confessing to Anna that he had an impure heart or some crap because to them, that is worth confessing. My sympathies go to the girls, Anna, and the M kids. Also, my heart goes out to all of you sharing your stories.
  20. I read Jaclyn's ability to turn her feelings off as a bit of a front. Not necessarily to make herself look better, but to protect herself. I think she is both an over feeler and an over thinker, and is able to read the situation with Ryan fairly well. I think for her, she wants to save face a bit because of her turn around on her feelings for Ryan, and being able to say they can be friends later is her way of trying to separate herself from her feelings for him. I am not so sure it would be as easy for her as she is making it out to be. I see her celibacy of two years as evidence of this, because Jaclyn is pretty self aware (or seems that way compared to others on this show) and may know that she is the type to fall hard and fast so she kept men at an army's length. Of course, if my theory is true, signing up for a show where you get married right away and risk having to get hurt was not a wise choice for her.
  21. I think the guys are just not into the women on this show. Makes me feel bad for them.
  22. I agree, sleekandchic. I am not getting how responsibility is only being passed on to Jaclyn for sleeping with him when she caught feelings. They got married and he spent time pursuing her. While I disagree with the notion that some have that Jessica made a mistake sleeping with Ryan the first night, I get it more than this. I completely get that Jaclyn is a whole lot of personality. I was on Ryan's side of slowing down the talking about kids thing, and I do think she has a very "on" personality. I would not want to date someone like that (I would be friends with her though, I like her self awareness), but I think Ryan did seem into her. Time apart is great and needed in a relationship, but him pulling back to the point of not texting her is just cowardly. And I have to agree that it is not an issue of missing his family as much as he says it is, if the first thing he does when she leaves is hangs out with the buddies. Which again, there is nothing wrong with, but don't play up a sob story about your niece and then not use an opportunity to see her. Frankly, as much as she seems exhausting, he is just as much so. She says what she means, and he just plays games and will not come out with what he means.
  23. It looked to me like Jessica went more to get advice about how to deal with Ryan, as his mom went on about how she had to learn to compromise. Which.....seems misguided to me. I try to keep relationships issues within just me and the person I am in a relationship with for the most part. I especially would not go to someone who knows my SO better than they know me. But I agree, they need to go on some date nights. Get out of the apartment and eat some sushi out instead of takeout.
  24. And Dr. Pepper saying what a sexy couple they make
