Yes possibly but it’s unusual to respond. 

I think it’s a post-Mal reality. Ie we will probably (I hope) be hearing different comments from him and others now re their opinions on Villy/Philly. 

During Sally’s short run JT described Villy as end game, like Niktor. In a recent interview (ie still Mal era) he was all “Philly yeah” but Villy ONLY if done carefully and slowly.

Now we shall see...

I get whiplash from Billy but, then again, this character under JT has had such back-and-forth writing because of several regime changes. Like, this has to be it. If his character goes back to Phyllis again, he’s not redeemable. These speeches to Victoria, THE SAME SPEECHES, have gotten to a point of hollow I’ve rarely seen before. It’s absolute insanity. They can’t survive another round.

One of the few redeeming things about Phyllis is when she's against Victor, and it fits with the character too. Nikki and Victor's children defending him is just ridiculous now.

I would say *especially* Phyllis. It’s insane that she still looks longingly at Billy. Or that GT and JT think Philly is still viable.

Was there any fallout to Billy/Summer? Or did it get totally dropped? Isn’t that weird? No one even knows (except Kyle?)?

I hope so too. That would be good story because of how much drama it would cause for so many. Billy, Nick, Phyllis, Victor, Nikki, Victoria and Jack would all be horrified by a Billy/Summer pregnancy. There would be fireworks going off all over Genoa City. And getting to see NotBilly become the town pariah might make his character worth watching.

This is transitional writing imo. That or Mal did a 180, which I don’t believe. He saw Marco as a way to launch the Love Story of Philly, which morphed into the funny romcomcom crap he pushed in earnest. Now suddenly Phyllis is bringing up “what Victor did to me AND JACK”. Um wut? Everything Phyllis has done in the Mal era has BEEN ABOUT BILLY. For Billy or in reaction to Billy. Even during Power Couple Phick (until about two weeks ago) she was making fuck me eyes at Billy. And Billy was mooning over Phyllis and his screw up with Summer.

Then BAM!

Billy is suddenly Victoria’s “family” - including Reed’s father figure. He talks about Delia, has scenes with his kids, talks to Jack and Jill about the love of his life Victoria, shares ZERO scenes with Phyllis.

Billy is about to find out JT beat up Victoria. He had no idea what was happening, never got a scene with her in the aftermath, was not allowed to support her. Now he’s describing himself as her support system. The man who married HER. Who will always be there to take care of her.

This is not Mal. 

I don’t think show is fully JG but the story and character directions have completely been shifted by him. (Reed returning, Fen and Ana, they are all JG imo.)

Looks like Phyllis probably framed Victor. And Jack might have helped. If not he’s at the very least gloating to Victor in jail this week (in preview). 

Marco and how Phack suffered at Victor’s hands could not be mentioned under Mal’s regime because it would remind viewers that 

1. Phack were very recently married.

2. Philly started as a tawdry dark cruel affair, that Billy chased and fucked Jack’s wife when both were traumatized by rape and brutality and deception.

And how could Mal sell his leading pair as light and funny and romantic then?

Nope Mal pretended Philly were some 30-something long-term couple and Jack kinda their Dad figure and Victoria a weird prudish sad woman harping at Billy once in awhile but mostly out of his life.

That is not what’s onscreen any more.

Also, to kind of piggyback off what you’re perceiving @miamama , the reaction from mags like SID, who previously endorsed Philly and would either not comment or criticize Vic/Villy for the past two years, are now tweeting things like this...

I noticed changes on the official YR twitter account too. They tweeted a pic of an “adorable” family (Villy plus Reed and kids), they retweeted comments about Victoria and Billy, comments celebrating the end of Philly (or rather comments amused that Jill is celebrating the end of Philly). That feed used to be guaranteed Phyllis tweets daily and constant Philly shit (Do you miss them? Aren’t they a hoot? Who wants them reunited?) Now it’s Villy and Niktor. Lol.

I saw also that AH is doing an event with JT (and DG and someone else — NOT GT).

Billy vs Cane is coming. And Victoria will be one thing they’ll fight over. Maybe Chancellor too. 

Victoria also suddenly got POV back, including therapist scenes.

I honestly believe Mal was the only person in the writing room who wanted Philly. I truly truly believe this. He tried to sell it to execs with a reel of funny Philly clips FFS. (I mean he HAD TO SELL IT.)

And he got his wish, which almost tanked the show. So it’s done.

If feels like Billy being a total, humorless prick started the second he woke up from the coma and never stopped after that.  I thought Jason Thompson was miscast from Day 1 but being miscast and being an utterly awful asshole are two different things.

Things are changing, that's for sure but I'm not sure if for me the damage to Billy Abbott is reversible, no matter the writing.  I feel like it all went on too long for me to ever find anything in Jason Thompson's Billy other than a middle-aged possible organ donor.

Gina Tognoni's Phyllis needs to see about getting her coma back.  And Show better not EVER put her back with Jack.

I'm enjoying seeing her character becoming unanchored [is that a word?], and less relevant to storylines. She just steps into frame, bitches about whatever's at hand, and glares. Fine with me.

Yesterday's CDN hit new depths of boring, mind you. Phyllis/Victoria interchange? A sloppy visit from the exposition fairy, and some slapping borrowed from DOOL. Unfortunately, the transition people didn't borrow anything else while they were at it. Maybe some back from the dead? Or does Victor have that on lock? I don't even recall what else went on, aside from some dull argy bargy over Fen's dull song, and the thrilling events in the Rosales kitchen. We were all enriched by the platitudinous theme of "Just be yourself" as demonstrated by Lola and diners.

You make a good point. Can these people be redeemed? Sally tried with Billy but Mal sabotaged it completely with Philly feels and then reunion.

The only way to do it is via his kids and a sweet relationship with Victoria. Billy was never an asshole. EVER. He screwed up but was a good guy and fundamentally decent. JT’s Billy was positively sociopathic in his treatment of Jack. And fucking Summer??? 

I think if JT plays Billy like Patrick Drake. Devoted to his wife and child(ren) and being an all round white hat, he can be tolerable. 

Any hint of Philly and he’s a lost cause.

Phyllis is a lost cause. Just kill her off. I mean what’s left for her?

Phick is a dud and embarrassingly forced. Philly is character death for her and Billy.

The actor who plays Reed did a really good job under the circumstances; you absolutely felt his pain.

The Villy scenes were really good, too, and it sucks because....you know what’s coming  with Mal. What a waste.

GT tried to play her sympathetic version of Phyllis and I just didn’t feel it. This woman doesn’t give a fuck about Victoria, Reed, the Newmans, etc. It was another example of how completely out of place her character is right now.
