My dad was from WV, not far from where the Messer clan is. I have a lot of cousins there and those that didn't move away for school and/or broaden their horizons speak just like Mama Dawn and the rest of the clan. They teach them proper grammar in school (even though Leah claims the schools aren't well) but it's how their entire family has spoken for generations. The first time I went back there for a visit, my cousins told me I 'talked snotty'.

Going by what you can google on tax sites and the town listed as Coreys, I picked the elementary school in that town.  (it's a few miles past elkview, easily googled if you know where to look)  According to that school:  

 

Daily Schedule
6:45-7:10        Breakfast

7:20                 Tardy Bell/Classes begin

10:45-11:15     Kindergarten/4th Grade Lunch

11:15-11:45     1st/5th Grade Lunch

11:45-12:15     2nd/3rd Grade Lunch

1:50                  Dismissal

 

IF that is the correct school (according to google maps) from Charleston it would be a 27 minute drive, so I'm not entirely positive this is the right school.  Just wanted an idea.  And WOW! I kind of like those school hours.  Here school isn't over until 3:30 and that's elementary.

Those hours seem weirdly early to me...plus all the studies showing that kids do better in school if they start later in the morning...but we all know 'schools isn't well in them parts.' Does anyone know why WV has such early hours? Or is it just that district?

I don't doubt Leah would exaggerate the driving distance...she was off about everything else time wise, like when she awoke... Plus, they showed her leaving with less than 45 minutes to get there on time and she still said they were so it took less than her claimed 45 minutes to get there or she's lying and they were late. Either way she's a liar.

One thing's for sure about that going to school scene. Leah sure as hell did not get out of her vehicle and walk her girlses to their classrooms looking the way she did with her hair all messed up while wearing shorts as well as being high. Remember she claimed last year during her rants how she made sure her girlses arrived to school on time because she walked them to their classrooms. LOL

I can see the twins barely getting out of the car as their mother jumps into the driver's seat and hits the accelerator as she heads over to her dealer to pick up her baggie of pillses.

In several counties in Ohio and West Virginia (maybe Kentucky,also) the school buses run two routes; one for elementary and one for junior and high school. There are not enough buses, so the elementary are picked up first, delivered to the school, then those same buses make the same route to pick up the older kids. Rinse and repeat for drop offs.

 

It's a campaign issue many years, because no one wants their taxes raised, but the studies show that students do better when they start later. If the elementary starts later, the high school would have to end at a time when many students would be unable to participate in after school activities, work, or help farm while the sun is still out. Some years the debate is trading the elementary and high school times, but the argument is that the older kids deserve the benefit of starting later.

Rural areas have to share resources, like buses and auxiliary services like speech/therapy/etc, with several schools - so start/dismissal times are staggered.  It's not unheard of to have school start that early.  Children adapt (if they're not starving!).  Also, some children go home from school and then work on family farms (yes, even in 2016).  I live in downtown Cincinnati and then commute a few times a week to a rural clinic in SE Indiana.  They have similar hours for their children in rural SE Indiana.  They're also on a year-round schedule, which is like 6-8 weeks on with 2 weeks off (I think?).

I agree that is an extremely early start time. I have no idea what time schools start around here, as we homeschool. Our school lasts from 8:30-11:30. I do see the bus dropping a neighbor girl off around 4 in the afternoon, and the local school is 10 miles away. So I'm guessing we have a bit of a later schedule out here. I wonder how such an early schedule, getting out at 1:30, works when both parents have full time jobs. I guess the schools must have some sort of aftercare? I wouldn't be surprised if Leah took advantage of that as well. I bet she was thrilled when she heard the girlses could just have breakfast at school, and she wouldn't have to worry about it. Leah said all but two words on that crap "Aftershow" waste of time. She looked nervous and skittish and said that the school morning scene was "so hard to watch" or something of that sort, but no one asked her WHY. If everything was fine at that point, why would it have been hard to watch? Nothing ever adds up with that girl. That was after her "therapy", so wasn't everything wonnnnnderful then? If she was half-assed admitting that things were amiss, she could at least say "I was in really bad shape at that point and it's embarrassing to see how I was not caring for my kids properly". But no. Perhaps she meant "It's hard to watch that because it makes me look bad and it was the editor's fault." Bleh.

 

For the record, I admit I have downed a pack or two of Sugar in the Raw in my lifetime, but Sweet and Low is PURE POISON. That's a whole other ball game.
