After an intimate moment mishap with Ben, Jane evaluates if motherhood is in her future because of her BRCA gene mutation. Kat is eager to flaunt her social media influence by partnering with a beauty brand that offers her an opportunity to be their spokesperson. Meanwhile, Sutton makes her first major fashion department decision without Oliver.

Well.. That wasn't too bad.. Tho did the show just end Ben/Jane.. Or did he just leave for the night... If they had him just drop her after this ima be mad at the show for trying to assasinate Ben's character... Sutton was once again great... ALEX GOT TO SPEAK ... Kat was ok.  I wish before jaquline tokd her to find good companies to work with. She woulda tokd her that the video wasnt the best... ( tho personally I agree with what kat did... I ain't here for that diversity mascot nonsense)... And Jane cried.. And had a group hug... Cuz the show is still the show

We had Alex but no Oliver—can we have only one black man on the show at a time?

I'm a bit surprised Jacqueline encourage Kat to pursue those sponsorships. I guess it's not that different from the magazine mentioning what makeup is on the models, but you don't expect an employee to be specifically promoting a product. I don't know, something about it makes me uneasy.

So glad they didn’t go the route I thought they would with Jane having a pregnancy scare. I can’t imagine being 25 and having to think about having eggs frozen because of having my ovaries removed. I felt bad for Ben because he was thinking about devastating this is for Jane as a doctor and not as a boyfriend. When hubby got on the path as a diabetic with high cholesterol, all I could think about is early heart disease and other diabetic complications. It’s hard being a supportive significant other without worrying about medical complications, especially if you know how the disease works. I hope this isn’t the end of Jane and Ben because he is awesome and makes her tolerable.

Oh Kat, why couldn’t you have researched the company before signing a contract? I thought that the products would suck or cause an allergic reaction, so the angle with them hiring her to make the CEO not look like a racist was nice to see.

Sutton saves the day again. Glad she’s going to Paris.

I was a little confused by the beginning, what was the problem with Jane getting the Plan B? Why couldn't she just go to the drugstore & buy it? It's sold OTC.

No Adena, YAY!

Why would Kat sign a contract to endorse a product she's never used? What if she hated it?

So Jane knows she needs Plan B, knows it's sold at pharmacies (and if she doesn't Ben certainly would know this), but she needs to immediately call both her best friends in the middle of the night...why? I agree, there's no reason she had to postmate it instead of just going to the pharmacy herself like a normal human being. And she could have told her friends all about it when she saw them in the morning. I love the close friendship between the main trio - it's the main selling point of the show for me - but at this point things are getting weird.

I was surprised that Scarlet was into employees becoming brand spokespeople. Or is it just Kat? I get that they are putting her in a more prominent position, but when she starts hocking facial cleanser she seems more like a model and less like a manager. It adds another layer to the big 'so what does Kat do all day, exactly?' question that sort of haunts the show.  She tweets, she hires a person we never see again, and she is a spokeswoman for products (but only the ones she believes in!).

Sutton was my favorite this ep. I love professionally competent Sutton, and it looks like she's really doing well. Although I did wonder if those models would have been okay with it if they knew they were posing with cups she'd dug out of the dumpster. And I do like that her friends helped her out with her work, although I had to laugh when Jane admitted she was just blowing off the article that she knew was going to be the feature piece of the next issue and that her editor had been pushing her to finish so she could help out. Although I guess Jane knew she wasn't going to be able to get it done at her desk either so she might as well do something productive.

I love how Jane went from non-orgasmic to being able to have an orgasm with no problem and after little to no intercourse. So realistic. As soon as Pinstripe came back I knew Ben was doomed. This show has a problem with writing arcs. Everything gets dropped after two episodes.

The Plan B emergency was irritating, and it clearly (and rightfully) annoyed Ben because she could have dealt with it right then and then discussed with her friends in the morning.

I was more annoyed by her snide comment to Alex when he asked if he could come to the room with the girls. I know she was hormonal, but she didn’t have to be a bitch to him. I miss their friendship, but the writers obviously don’t. Their two second scene afterwards about their respective articles isn’t good enough.

Pinstripe fixed Jane so now she can have orgasms all the time! He’s definitely in the background so he can swoop in and be Jane’s boyfriend by the end of the season. Not subtle at all.

First to Pinstripe.. I wish they weren't hinting at him coming back for Jane so heavy.. Because I actually like him... Like many of us millennial males he's got some layers.. Yes he's a bit of a hounddog.. But he's also friendly and helpful.. I'd be good with him just being a buddy.. But that's not going to happen.. And unfortunately him getting with Jane gets rid of The good doctor ben.. Whos been awesome..

As for Alex.. At least he got to talk.  I wish when Jane threw down the Gyno Gauntlet he woulda just said... Yeah I'm down.. Let's talk... He's in such an interesting position... He's apparently like one of like 3 or 4 dudes in the office.. Maybe the only straight one and he's black... In the rest of the world 2 of those 3 usually put you in a power position... But not at scarlet.. And while that mag is diverse in that room.. Black is still a minority.. And I know that the show is geared towards women.. And that's not a problem for me.. But I think they are missing an oppurtunity with Alex who could serve a different purpose and have a distinct relationship with all 3 protagonists.. But instead he gets like 2 scenes and about 25 words... But hey them checks don't go by the amount of words he says so good job get that money

Why did no one reprimand Kat for signing a contract that not only did she not have a very readily available attorney review, but she didn't even read herself? Kat seems to have massive insecurities and needs constant ego strokes. Thank goodness there was nothing about her personal life this week.

I would watch a show about Sutton only. Though it's tough to handwave the girls finding all the stuff she needed at one flea market. She's the most interesting and enjoyable character by far.

You raise an interesting point. I was curious so I looked at the IMDB for both actors to see how busy they are. It looks like Stephen Conrad Moore (Oliver) has done a lot of theatre. He has a MFA from Yale School of Drama! His Twitter is pretty focused on TBT though.  He is considered a series regular for S2 according to an article I saw on his IMDB page. He's credited for 13 eps.  According to IMDB, Matt Ward (Alex) is credited for 15 eps.

Did anyone else find all those Plan B side effects odd? Sutton was acting like it was completely normal and she'd experienced them when she'd taken it, but man, I've NEVER heard of someone having such an extreme reaction. It's not RU486! (I realize they did that to propel her doctor visit, but it was odd. All meds can have side effects but the show was treating that as completely standard. It kind of irked me because it seemed like it would scare young women watching the show OUT of ever using it.) In general that whole arc was weird. Jane didn't need to get the pill in the middle of the night and certainly didn't need to wake up her friends to tell them a friggin' condom broke. The friendships are a bit inconsistent -- sometimes they'll tell each other something major at work the next day that ANYONE would make a late-night call for, and then other times they immediately Skype to basically tell each other they have to pee.

Maybe she was too embarrassed? Oh, and the delivery guy was WAAAAYYYY out of line with that contraception mention. MYOB, dude, and tell the pharmacist the same thing. Ugh. That wasn't funny to me at all, given how in some states pharmacists can refuse to fill prescriptions on moral/religious grounds. This wasn't that, I know, but it's a slippery slope.

Why on earth would Jacqueline think Sutton, who's filling in for a much-missed Oliver, would be able to cut money from the fashion budget? She's an assistant. That rang so plot-pointy to me it hurt.

My rant above notwithstanding, I did enjoy Ben telling Jane that she had 71 hours and 30 minutes (or whatever absurdly large amount of time was left) in which to successfully take Plan B, and the delivery would make it in time.

This is a perfect example of the maturity gap between Ben and Jane which is why I think Pinstripe is a better match for Jane. Lately, Jane seems like she's going through life by attaching teenage-level drama to everything. I'm not sure if it's always been there or if the writers are introducing it for manufactured drama.

I used to think this show addressed complex current issues in a smart way, but with the last two episodes, I'm not so sure.

In Betsy, I was on board with the differing viewpoints until Jane manipulated Sutton into getting her way at the end of the episode. It seemed sloppy and not fully realized.

With this episode, it seems like Jane can't handle any type of adversity as if she's never been exposed to it. At 25, most people have been through some crap by that point in their lives to where they're not hyperventilating about everything when it doesn't go their way.

Overall, this storyline was kind of a mess:

  • Sutton picking up everything she needed at one yard sale minus perfectly usable cups from the bar that were conveniently in the dumpster.
  • The magazine publishing company arranging for Kat's endorsement campaign but not being present when she actually signed the contract.
  • Jacqueline telling the publishing company Scarlet will never do that type of advertising then immediately telling Kat she should do it.
  • Jacqueline asking an assistant who's been in the role about a year to make budget decisions on a whim.
  • The scene with Jane and her doctor was poorly written to manufacture drama. I have a different type of gene mutation but my specialist (not my OB/GYN) had the exact same conversation with me (1) on the first day the results came in and (2) in more of a life planning type of way rather than a black and white delivery of immediately choosing between kids or an ovariectomy.

I'll hang on for the rest of the season. But if the show continues to veer into teen drama territory, I'm out, which is sad because there are very few shows on TV that show women of various ages supporting each other.

I always thought in the pilot that Alex was meant as a love interest for Jane. At the time I was down for it, but now I do not want to saddle Alex with Jane. I would love if Sutton got together with Pinstripe, but of course Pinstripe is probably going to be with Jane soon. I am going to miss Ben when that happens.

They seemed well matches when the show started.. I thought that's where it was going as well... Was actually a bit surprised (pleasantly tho)  when it turned out to be Sutton... Unfortunately she was still on her Richard (?) Moves and kinda just swept him up in it... But I think that speaks to somn I said earlier... He(Alex)  has a good relationship with all the girls and I could envision him with each of them,  while being a diff kind of BF to each... I like pinstripe but I imagine he'd be the same with Sutton or kat as he was with Jane..

Thank God this wasn't a real pregnancy scare plot for Jane, although we did have to deal with yet another episode of Jane angst. At least the angst is based on previous angst this week, and not some new sudden trauma from her past. It sucks that Jane and Ben look to already be doomed, I really like him. Pinstripe is a nice guy and I like him around as a kind of Greek Chorus for the reporting world, but he and Jane coming back together is just...boring.

Why would Kat not get a lawyer or something to look at that contract before she signed it? Or at least endorse a product she actually liked, even beyond their bad political press. Couldn't she have asked to sample the product first, if she couldn't get a lawyer? Well, at least Kat had professional drama, and not relationship, and I liked how her story went. I assumed they wanted her to be their token, or that their product sucked, and I was kind of right about the token thing, but the actual story was interesting.

Sutton continues to have a great season, and she gets a real win going to Paris! Oh, and hi Alex...bye Alex...

Kat is not the brightest little bulb and has clearly lived a rather sheltered life where bad thinks haven't really happened to her. She has that impulsiveness that comes from having rich parents who will bail her out of any mess she gets into. Reality is going to bitchslap her across the side of the head in a big way.

Considering the offer came from a board member, Kat probably thought (not illogically, IMO) that the contract and the company had already been vetted.

They're really stacking the deck against Cleo (the new board member; I had to look up her name). I'm sure we'll have a showdown between her and Jacqueline where J issues an ultimatum that either Cleo goes or she does.

The show used to have a bit of nuance, and it's to its detriment the stories are becoming more black and white.

That opening sex scene was somehow both way too graphic and incredibly lame. They go from flaccid to orgasming in 30 seconds? I didn't need to watch the origin of the Plan B plot. Also, that Sappho comment from Sutton was gratuitous and way out of left field. They're trying really hard to telegraph this Kat/Sutton hookup, probably in the finale when Kat's mad at Adena and breaks their rule about not knowing who you sleep with.

Kind of annoying that Jane gets to wave her childhood trauma wand and whine her way out of whatever drama she's chosen to create every week. Plus, now she gets to scrap all the heartfelt firsthand accounts she got from actual young moms and write yet another article about herself and her feelings! YAY! I'm sure those moms will be thrilled to buy the magazine and see that their interviews were replaced by the childfree narcissist author talking about her problems and how their kids triggered her.

Finally a Kat storyline without Adena!!!!! Unfortunately she morphed into a self-righteous Gen Z teen. We get it, you're morally superior. Maybe next time, I don't know, Google a company before you sign a contract partnering with them? Just a thought. Your smugness will get you nowhere if you voluntarily legally bound yourself to shilling their shit.

Kat and Sutton are infinitely more more interesting, but Jane hogs up all the screen time this season with her self-made emotional crises. It reminds me of Katie Stevens' other character on Faking It, Karma. She and her best friend Amy pretend to be a lesbian couple for attention and Amy realizes she's actually in love with her. Amy was much more compelling as a character, but every goddamn week was about how Karma felt and whether Amy was driving Karma away with her feelings and does Karma like like Amy? But no, she was just emotionally manipulating her by being intentionally vague...for three seasons. And yet it was The Karma Show and she had multiple people in love with her at all times. Jane was cooler last season and I was thrilled to see Katie playing an adult to get away from high school drama, but season 2 Jane feels like Adult Karma redux.

Katie just plays really needy, self-absorbed, insufferable characters lol.

Is Jacqueline trying to be part of "the Gang" now?  As an editor of a magazine she spends a lot of time hand-holding these girls. When she was talking with Jane I just wanted her to say something like "you pitched this idea and it's going to be our feature with Blake Lively.  Put your big girl pants on and write something now."  And Kat- was she even getting paid? Cleo said this was a revenue stream for the magazine.  What was Kat getting? A box of freebies? And why would she agree before even trying the stuff out? So many plot holes.  I'm really surprised that the board didn't get more mad at Cleo- this isn't what board members are supposed to do!

Can the bar sue for having a photoshoot that implies it was at the bar (using their logoed cups) but didn't pay the location fee?

If I were Ben, I'd have been so mad about the phone call for Plan B.  Does she Skype her friends in when they have sex? Also think he should have gone and picked it up himself... I have a soft spot for men who are willing to do that (or pick up tampons).

THIS. As a director of the department, her employment contract would absolutely have a clause that prohibited her from signing outside contracts/endorsements without an official sign-off from legal. And she didn't even read it. I wanted to strangle her.

Yes! This is how progressive men are and how progressive men are made. Women are awesome and powerful, but when we have the backup and support of progressive men, society changes even faster. Men getting involved in things like reproductive rights advocacy, menstrual products access advocacy, childcare advocacy, etc, it is so much more powerful when we speak with one voice. I'd love to see them have a Male friend who could embody this, AND show that progressive men aren't a threat to women's relationships. Men as a whole (and women, and society) would be better the more we all share our burdens.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but TBH I think Pinstripe am Sutton would make a better couple - one thats pushing each other to excel personally and professionally aswell.

Jane is so whiny, Pinstripe would probably tire of constantly having all her teenage emotions thrown at him and taking turns with Jaqueline to hold her hand through her writing process. At least Ben can refer her to a proper shrink when she's worn him out.

I never would have thought this, but I could see it working.  Both seem to have equal "openness" to sexuality.  And they both seem ok with various bends in the rules for work.  And just think of the "Tiny Jane" drama that would come with this.

Jane is enabled by everyone around her.  She wears her trauma like a badge of honor (mom died when I was 5, then the next year was Columbine).  I'm beginning to see why that boyfriend dumped her on his birthday- he just had enough.  Jacqueline needs to stop coddling her.  While I didn't like the other boss Jane had for 5 mins, she was much more boss-like.  This job isn't Jane's personal psychotherapy session.

Now maybe I just don't have great friends, but even when I was single and had roommates we didn't spend this much time together.  I've had close work friends but we weren't in the "supply closet" all the time and I wasn't calling them after my orgasms.  I know it's a tv trope, but this obsessive friendship (like on Friends) is really weird.

I have thought about every close friendship I've had, every group of friends I've had, and I've never experienced the level of co-dependence female friendships on TV depict. If I were still young and impressionable I may feel like something was wrong with me because my friendships are nowhere near as close (clingy) as these girls.

Yes!  I would wonder why we weren't hanging out all the time, working at the same company, swapping boyfriends, etc.  Funny thing, I had a few jobs where I became close friends with the gals I worked with and each time our managers would reprimand us for hanging out during work hours.  One of my friends even got written up in her review for spending so much time talking with me.

I won't front.. Me and my closest boys are real close.. Like talk all the time.. Text.. Hang out... Work together... When we are combined sometimes even SO's can feel on the outside... We kniw its prob not healthy.. And we should have more boundaries... Hut we dont... We all have each others keys.. We know our blood types... I kniw their social security numbers... Its weird to ppl when they first get around us... But even in our mid 20s we've managed to not really be all up underneath each other to the point where it was an issue... So I'm aware we may be outliers

I re-watched some episodes from S1 and I don’t understand why Jane became so insufferable this season. Last season I thought Kat was the worst but she was still likeable. This season they are both awful but Kat is still better. Sutton was always my fave so I’m glad she’s killing it this season.

I don't think it was common knowledge yet that the CEO of the cosmetic company was super terrible, though. From the way Pinstripe talked, it sounded like there was a story that was about to break, but hadn't broken yet.

Completely agree! I've always found shows where the main characters are ridiculously close so...ridiculous, lol. I don't know anyone in real life who has friends like that. Shows like this one, Friends (as you mentioned) and How I Met Your Mother depict a really idealized, fantasy version of friendship. I would finds friends like that stifling.

ETA: Full disclosure, I have two sisters that I am extremely close with, and in fact one of them even lives with me and my husband, having moved in after her divorce a few years ago. I consider my husband and my sisters my best friends, and yes we do share nearly every thought with each other, lol. So perhaps that is why I've never really felt the need for close friends who were not also family.
