The Flash in the Media

I remember that Kevin Smith wrote a short run of Green Arrow. It was entertaining even if he didn't get all of the characters right. He probably had the best version of Stephanie Brown though. I think he may have been the one who introduced Mia Deardon or something like that.

I'm sure the producers probably got a kick out of his reaction.

Interview with Armen Kevorkian, VFX Supervisor:

CW shows don’t generally have the biggest TV budgets. Does that limit your process at all?

Kevorkian: I mean obviously you think about the budget, but that was the least of my worries. I just wanted something that would be representative of what would look cool—what was established in the comic books, but still felt it lives in the real world.

I always feel like—and this goes for movies, too—once it airs, it lives forever. So if you feel that you didn’t put everything into it, to make it the best you can? Then you’ll regret it. Once it’s out of your hand and it airs, it’s theirs. I kind of represent the work that you put into it. At the end of the day, you want to do the best that you can, but what does air is worth the blood and sweat that you put into it.

Despite how badly they write and use her character, DP is the closest thing to a leading lady on The Flash.  Iris should be the leading lady but they constantly have her off in storylines that have little to do with the main plot.  The few times she interacts with Barry is just to prop him up.  Even her own father isn't too crazy about her.

The show has some serious issues - but that still doesn't excuse the magazine for messing this up.  They could have easily checked the credits to verify that line.  It's erasure and it tends to happen most often to black leading ladies on shows.  This happened a lot to Nicole Beharie on Sleepy Hollow in the 2nd season... and right before the 3rd season.

I'm glad they are taking heat - they clearly didn't do their research - they just made a really poor assumption.  And I don't think it has anything to do with screen time or where Iris' stories are... they leaped to put the first white actress they saw on the show in the "leading" spot even though CP is billed first.

I really hope the way they do this is that it's just another Barry Allen on whatever universe Supergirl is on. He's not "our" Barry crossing over, because then they'd have to explain all that on the Supergirl episode and then he has to come back and probably not tell anybody on the show what happened, and it's just too complicated.

This keeps is simpler.

Agreed. Because if they try one more crossover without Iris I will literally go and burn CW to the ground. Especially since with the whole journalism thing, she'd be a natural crossover - but I much prefer it if this is another Barry Allen that goes to Supergirl's universe.

Still not gonna watch. I have issues with Supergirl as a show and the huge elephant in the room, Superman, that they try to skirt around even though they give Supergirl his life practically. A news journalist, really? Lame. I was excited for this show but I hate how they just copied Superman's story, right down to Kara acting like a dork like CK. NO! She's supposed to be different.

Also - I don't want to waste ANY time on The Flash building up to this unless it's seamless. Because otherwise, it just drags The Flash story just to prop up the failing Supergirl show (yes I know it has higher ratings, but that's because it's CBS. The demos are nearly identical, which means success for The Flash and failure for SG).

I'm like three episodes behind on the show (there's so much awesome stuff on TV at the moment, and I'm not really a huge fan), but I'm kinda excited about the crossover. But I definitely want it to be the real Barry who crosses over to Kara's Earth. Otherwise, what's the point?

Also, really don't need Iris or anybody else from The Flash there. Well, maybe Cisco would fit right in, otherwise, eh. I think they'll limit it to Barry, rightfully.

Agreed.  The point is to see the Flash and Supergirl interact.  Winn and Cisco geeking out, or Kara and Iris hanging out is not the best way to spend their limited air time.  When Batman and Superman crossover they don't make Alfred chat up Perry White, they focus on the heroes.

They can explain it the same way they occasionally drop Arrow tidbits.  He can tell them about it offscreen and bring it up once in a while and that's fine.  At the very least it'll make Barry more open to the possibility of aliens instead of metahumans.

It's called "Worlds Finest" instead of "World's Finest", which suggests that Barry might crossover into another world.  This might be the perfect way to explain the DC Multiverse.  You have the DC TV Universe, the Supergirl Universe and the DC Movie Universe.

Except this show constantly crosses over with Arrow and takes half the cast EXCEPT Iris with it, so the whole "only one crosses over" is utter BS. My point was that IF anyone crossed over with Barry, Iris would actually make a ton of sense since she's the reporter. For once that would tie in with Kara/Jimmy and everyone in Supergirl's world.

But if they are going to treat it like another Earth (and I think this is the only way to do it without dragging The Flash down to prop up SG), then that makes sense. Plus - I need it to be another Earth/Universe because Barry and SG are NOT the same age! He's with her cousin - not her. She's the teeny bopper set and Flash runs with the big guns like Superman, WW and Batman.

I hope this is how it goes... and that only Barry goes.

I'm just getting tried of every new costume in the Flarrow-verse being made from leather/leather-like material. It's not bad, it's getting boring.

Blergh. I wish they would have given her the 'toon look of Killer Frost that I know from JL/JLU and the various JL movies--with the short, ice-blue hair, instead of that horrid long, white, white/blonde? hair.  Just like BC's wig on Arrow. SHUDDER.

The costume looks very Batman & Robin. Obviously not a compliment. I'm just hoping the short clips we've seen of KF are not an accurate representation of the character because yeesh, that line delivery! I was hoping KF would help DP work to her strengths for obvious (wooden) reasons but I'm not so sure...

Producer post-mortem: some spoilers for part 2 of the visit to Earth-2.

If you’re bummed about not getting to see much of Earth-Two Barry, fret not, there’s plenty of the “very entertaining” doppelganger in the next installment, Todd Helbing promises. “He’s quite a bit different,” the EP describes, noting that the character was originally intended to have a Jimmy Stewart quality. “We really just gave Grant [Gustin] a few ideas, and he took it upon himself and created this amazing guy. It’s hilarious. It was an interesting juggle between this very dire circumstance and then this very funny Earth-Two Barry,” who also plays “a pivotal role” in helping the other Barry.

Comments from Robbie Amell about the role of Firestorm,

Candice Patton interview, with comments about Earth-2 Iris:

TVLINE | Do I see you carrying yourself differently as Earth-Two Iris because of that? I feel she has a bit more swagger.

Absolutely. I wanted her to be as strong as her father is on Earth-One. I wanted her to feel very tough and unapologetic and… not hardened. but she has an exoskeleton to do the kind of work that she does. There were days on set that were hard for me, shooting scenes with Floyd Lawton and having Barry in the room, and then there’s me as Detective West…. It was an unusual difference for me now being the “alpha” in the room. It was kind of uncomfortable to play at first — our [“Welcome to Earth-Two”] director, Millicent Shelton, had to come over to me a couple of times and say, “You’re on the right track. Be fierce. Be dominant.”
