Oh, Axe, Taylor is not one you want to be trying to fcuk over. Especially after you just destroyed their perfect long-distance relationship.

"The New York football Giants"? Come on. Surely no one who's been living for years in NYC would say that.

Great casting of SNL's Alex Moffat. He does that smirky New York sleezeball act so well.

I like the Taylor Mason Capital logo.

But if they were planning to jump ship, why push so hard for their preferred comp? Was that just a power play?

The actors who play Ira and the guy whom Chuck engaged to find dirt on Taiga look too similar.

Again, why portray Ira as this pathetic, whipped loser? He’s kind, intelligent, humble and very attractive.

And Taiga is just generically pretty.

The season finale looks good.

I hope Taylor's fund with its quant and algorithm crushes Axe's insider trading nonsense.

I also continue to be confused about why Wendy is so "valuable" to Axe. He doesn't seem to really like his employees beyond being ego boosters when they kiss his ass, so he's not trying to help them be better people, they aren't especially complicated people so she's not offering any deep insight that a good HR person couldn't provide, and when there is a complex person (Taylor) Wendy not only gets it wrong, she ropes in Lara to be wrong with her. If Axe benefits from talking to Wendy personally, great, be her patient. But this is starting to look like Tom Brady making everybody on the Patriots go to his wacky trainer and sleep in copper pajamas.

It's actually the full name of the team - so it's a bit of an in-joke.

Wendy's job is to keep all the traders in tip top shape to make a ton of money for Axe.  The real question is why the traders all seem to be emotional 4 year olds.

True but Taylor will be a pretty tough chew. What he's got in age, experience, and tons of money, they've got in youth, flexibility, and intellectual brilliance. It'll be a challenge, I think, because he underestimates them.

I forgot that it was their real name it I giggled when they said it.  (for those who wonder why - there was also a New York Giants baseball team, so the football team added "football" to their name)  the more you know....... :)

I could see Taylor's algorithm being exceptional.  (I have a strong emotional reaction to this character Not common for me at all.  Maybe I need my own Wendy.  Well, maybe I need a Wendy who isn't about making me want to focus on getting more $$$ for Axe Capital).  But the reaching out to Griggor plan seems poorly considered.  I understand wanting a huge amount of money to make a big splash when the algorithm works.  At the same time, Taylor is getting a huge bonus that they could use as the seed money.  If they prove it works, they can get investors from there.

So Axe and Lara are separated/not separated?  When she was in his apartment and he was making a move, she said something like "we're not going to get sloppy now"  To me that mean, its a ruse.  Anyone else?

The dialogue can be so clunky on this show that I have trouble believing any of the couples are or have been romantically involved. And Lara being in this scene makes it especially problematic. I took her line as 'if we're over, we're over'. I took Bobby's overture as a way of him finding out how attached Lara is to the subject of her Walk of Shame we saw earlier in the episode.

FFS Taylor stay the hell away from John Malkovich.

Also, is that a Wags/Oui reference in the Westworld recap header?

Yup, Lara was just saying lets not muddy the water by fucking. First good move she has made in a while, keep things clear that their contact revolves around the kids and the money investment. There would be no point of an act now anyway. Axe is out of trouble, Lara got her portion of the money and the kids relationship with their father is slowly eroding.

Taylor I trust is smarter than Axe, but yes, the Russia money move seems dumb. I wonder if they will truly be Axe's enemy next season.

I know some people hate Wags but I can understand why Axe keeps him around. Something about him just makes me smile at times.

I can't stand Connerty. I know he thinks his actions are altruistic but I don't feel that they are. I'm still shaking my head that he fucked up the case against Axe by trying to bring down Chuck (who hadn't actually done anything except allow Axe to know he had invested in a company. He didn't force Axe to fucking poison people!) and ended up getting no one. And he still walks around like his shit don't stink. I'm sure he will fuck it up again with this new Chuck takedown mission.

Funny seeing people (not from the ny area?) not knowing the Giants name. The NY Giants baseball team is now the San Francisco Giants (Brooklyn Dodgers moved at the same time to become the LA Dodgers), back in the glory days of cities not tripping over themselves to pay millions (now billions) for new stadiums to keep teams. No one says Giants football team much since the baseball team has been gone a long time now but if you were talking sports history you might say baseball/football Giants for clarity sake.

In fairness, I think Wendy was right.  It was important for Axe to keep Taylor happy and invested in Axe Capital by giving Taylor a big reward and keep the momentum moving forward.  Wendy just didn't realize that Axe had already essentially alienated Taylor to the point of no return.

The scene with Axe and his mother was a little strange.  She doesn't seem to think much of him, and he was entirely comfortable looking at porn magazines with her standing right there.

I will say I would enjoy Chuck Sr. hosting a Dr. Phil-type talk show where he gives relationship advice.

Finally, I even was fine with Lara during the episode.  She was pleasant, reasonable and it didn't devolve into her yelling at anyone.

I am really surprised that Ira was getting played by the young bride who insisted on that big ugly ring.  /sarcasm.

That ring alone is probably worth several times the $50k settlement that Chuck forced on her.

Chuck Sr. is a hoot, talking about monogamy being some enforced monopoly on young bucks and their seed.  Then telling Taiga how she could have a happy marriage, the first step for which involves lime juice.

Where did Taylor have her little skunkworks?  Was it actually out of her own money and away from Axe Cap premises?  Otherwise, I would think the special algorithm wouldn't be hers, as preposterous as that algorithm is -- the geek mentions that some other big hedge firm has 15 PhDs working for them, not to mention fast access to the trading exchanges for nanosecond execution of trades.

Yeah, Taylor didn't impress Grigor before so why would they be listening to her now?

I think they want to show Grigor and maybe others that they have this algorithm that Axe doesn't have. And they're going to fuck over Axe for destroying their relationship with Oscar. That was a really shitty thing for him to do.

They are taking a page out of new & improved Wendy's playbook. "Remember who you are fucking with".

Chuck's dad is an asshole, but Ira would have never forgiven Chuck for ending his marriage to Taiga.  Chuck Sr was right.  Stay married, bitch with your friends, have a kid, and be happy.

Agree. I was really surprised she swallowed her pride and called Wendy about their son.   I don't even remember why Lara & Axe got divorced, he lied about something about Wendy?  Jeesus if everyone got divorced when their spouse lied no one would be married.

Because Wendy is more important to Axe than Lara is.

And he lied to her about how he wouldn't talk to her when she returned to Axe Capital, she was to only be for the other employees.

So Lara said we had to make the policy this way, that you don't talk to Axe.  Then Wendy said she set that policy as a condition for returning to AC.

Anyways she got half the money so she doesn't need Axe.  She should be keeping some boy toys and flaunting it in his face.

Chuck seemed disappointed or worried by Ira's comments at their steak dinner.  I was right after Ira made the comment about sometimes the worst thing happening (Taiga finding another man) is not so bad.  Does that mean he was ok moving on from her?

Can someone explain that?

I read that as the spark of the idea to draw the AG into obstruction.

I think it started with the lie about Wendy, and then when the FBI was raiding the house and Axe didn't come home, essentially leaving she and the kids to deal with the raid by themselves, I think that was it.

I’ve thought this since they got divorced. The divorce is a way to protect their assists.

Right?  I mean, I know I would really be down to marry someone who basically told me up front that they were not ok with that “for poorer” part.  Poor Ira.

Yes. Like when he just looked on with what seemed like pride as Ben Kim did his elevator dance. I liked him less when he was snorting pills and seeking out women willing to do ass-to-mouth, but since his epiphany he's just a peach!

I thought Ira was saying he thought the worst thing that could ever happen to him was Taiga finding another man, and by extension that would be the end of everything good for him. But once it actually happened, it caused Chuck to get involved and the end result was actually him being happy. It was that surprising end result that was the seed for Chuck's new strategy for the AG takedown.

I think that comment was from this season, and occurred well after they had already begun divorce proceedings.  I'd also note that during that episode, Axe had decided, without even a discussion with Lara or a thought about his kids, to go to jail to protect Wendy.

I think Axe/Lara probably mirrored Wendy/Chuck for a long time. When things were good, Lara/Chuck could let their spouse's attachment to someone else go. What difference did it make? Lots of people have someone who is more family than friend. However when the shit hit the fan, the jealousy and unease pushed to the front. Lara needed to feel superior to Wendy and needed to believe that her relationship with Axe was the most important. She needed Axe to say that Wendy was sleeping with the enemy and therefore not a part of them. He not only refused, he wouldn't even distance himself. In essence, he wouldn't protect Lara and their family by eliminating the threat. So when she thought he had finally chosen her and them over his relationship with Wendy, finding out it was a lie was crushing. She tried to forgive but once it was out there, there was no going back. Since then, he's lied about coming home to say goodbye and help her and the boys through this in favor of spending his last free moments making things right with Wendy and planning to go to jail to protect Wendy with no thought to the irreparable damage that would leave in Lara and the boys' lives. There's no denying anymore that while Axe loved Lara, it was never just the two of them with their boys against the world like she needed to believe. So she prioritized and walked.

I think Wendy's value goes well beyond just skill. Wendy is integral to the fabric of Axe Cap. Everyone knows how important and essential she is to Axe. Therefore she is seen as trusted and essential by the staff. She's also well liked and trusted on her own. All together that makes her a key part of the culture and cohesiveness of Axe. I think that's also why she can't let go. She could be good at her job anywhere. It's all the other factors combined that make her great at Axe and make her feel so needed and important.

I actually don't think she screwed up with Taylor. She didn't see that Axe had already pushed them too far for comp to really matter, but Taylor was also deliberately keeping their plans private. When Taylor agreed to give Wendy a day to work on Axe, Wendy took them at their word. Why wouldn't she? She's not a mind reader and Taylor was keeping their plans VERY close to the vest.

I thought this showed that she was truly moving on from Axe. No way do I believe that a Lara who still saw any possibility of getting back with Axe would call Wendy about anything, but especially something as personal as their son. Now watch me start season four and have them getting back together. Oh well. (I need my shrug emoji)
