Speaking of, are we even supposed to like Shaun? This obsessed jerk isn't the same character I adored in season 1.

obviously because anyone with a disability, real or fictional, is inspiration porn

Wow, am I glad that I jumped ship from this show in season 2. Geez. Nicholas Gonzalez was the only reason I watched anyway because I've thought he was painfully hot ever since he appeared on Undressed back in 1999. I was happy for him that he finally got on a hit show that's poised for a syndication-length run. (Going over his IMDB he did have a t.v. show on Showtime called Resurrection Boulevard that ran from 2000 to 2002.)

I'm not surprised it wasn't his choice because you just don't leave a hit show when you're a t.v. actor in his 40's who never had any long-term run on a t.v. series, especially in the current landscape where network t.v. hits are becoming increasingly rare. He's been more of a "Hey, It's That Guy" than having any kind of truly signature role.

I hope he pulls a Taraj P. Henson and winds up on a big show after this. What a waste!

I finally caught up on this show during the quarantine only to have them kill my favorite character! Annoyed. And keeping Lea? I didn't mind seeing Shaun learn how to navigate a romantic relationship and found it really cute but I'm so over how they can never let a man and a woman just be platonic. Just like they did with Claire and Melendez. Platonic friendships are real people!

Interview and photo shoot with Jasika Nicole: '10 Things about Jasika Nicole'

Quote

On The Good Doctor, you play the role of Dr. Carly Lever. What can you tell us about her personality?

She’s a Woman of Color in STEM, so she’s obviously brilliant and hardworking, she’s funny, honest, emotionally intelligent, thoughtful, self-aware, and knows how to set boundaries. I think she’s a bit of a dreamboat.

What do you enjoy most about bringing Carly’s character to life on screen?

I love how measured she is. Her dialogue in the scripts is always considered and singular. She finds a way to communicate her needs and state her opinions without being nasty or judgmental. Mostly, I loved that Freddie was my main scene partner for an entire season. He has been such a joy to work with. And, when I found out the characters were breaking up, my first reaction was “oh no, this means I won’t get to work with Freddie all the time!”

This interview apparently took place before the finale, right when the shutdowns started.

For Shaun and Lea, I could see them happening. They had been friends for 3 years. And it's not unheard of for friends to fall in love with one another. And I do credit the writers for actually taking the time to let them find one another rather than push them together right away. I think had Lea not left for Hershey in Season 1, they probably would have gotten together sooner. And I, for one, and happy that for once, the main character's love interest is NOT with someone that they work with. Not an attending or resident or nurse. It seems people who actually work together in these shows don't know how to keep a strictly platonic relationship and always have to fall in love with one another. It's the standard for Grey's Anatomy.

Claire and Melendez was just forced. She all of a sudden loves him after 2 months of jogging and working out together. After she grieved her mother's death by sleeping with married men. That might be the only reason why I'm glad Melendez is dead, as we don't have to see that relationship come to fruition. If they were to have one, Melendez would have had to move to another hospital or Claire would not have been able to be his resident anymore. He would show favoritism and it would prove Morgan's complaint true.

'Behind The COVID Testing Standoff That Idled ‘The Good Doctor’ & Threatens Production Restart In Vancouver'

Quote

For weeks, ABC/Sony Pictures TV’s medical drama The Good Doctor looked like the show that would restart U.S. series production in Vancouver, leading the way out of the coronavirus-related shutdown. The cast flew in and started a mandatory two-week self-quarantine, and the series entered pre-production, targeting the week of Aug. 10 to begin filming. Then last Friday, July 31, the entire crew was laid off and pre-production was put on hold.

The drastic measure was the culmination to an escalating standoff over COVID-19 safety protocols related to testing. It is being closely monitored by other studios as it could have potential implications for the more than 30 TV series that shot in Hollywood North, with a dozen or so eying to start production there by end of August. ...

That's good news that we have a Season 4 premiere date. I was starting to wonder about it for a while and thought maybe it was delayed because of the pandemic. But I just saw on next-episode.net that the show will be back on November 2nd, as thuganomics85 already pointed out above.

It was delayed due to the pandemic, but they shoot in Canada, which handled things much better

He always gives such fun interviews. Thanks for sharing this :).

Update on Richard Schiff, now from the hospital

Quote

“Thank you all for so much love and support,” the actor tweeted early Monday. “I am in the hospital on Remdesivir, O2 and steroids, [and] showing some improvement every day.”

Schiff also shared an update on the condition of his wife and Good Doctor co-star Sheila Kelley, who is also battling coronavirus. “Sheila is home and doing better,” he wrote, “but still fairly ill.”

Recap: 'Hasn't The Good Doctor's Claire Suffered Just About Enough?'

I don't know how widespread this opinion is when it comes to people who cover the show, but hopefully the writers/showrunners will pay attention with Claire's treatment being called out by the media.

Well she must be feeling it too because she has announced she is leaving the show.

I just saw the announcement from TVLine. Damn, I liked her. Both articles suggests she loved exploring the character but wanted to do other things. She went to the showrunner at the end of Season 3 and suggested that maybe they wrap up the character after another season and she's open to coming back for visits, so she doesn't seem mad or unhappy about things https://tvline.com/2021/06/07/the-good-doctor-antonia-thomas-leaving-claire-browne-season-5/

I didn't realize until the Deadline article that she was British, so that probably explains why she felt constricted from doing other things given the size of UK series vs American broadcast ones

So sad to hear this news about Claire. She's always been among my favorite characters on this show.

I understand Thomas' reasons, though. And I am glad to hear she's open to guest appearances when possible, so yeah, if there's ever an opportunity for her to do that, I'm all for it. Wishing her well with whatever she goes on to do next.

I think the actress seems lovely and fair play to her as it’s ballsy to walk away from a hit show midway through the contract.

I won’t miss Claire though. Out of all the characters I find her the dullest. I feel her storyline came to a natural conclusion as there’s not much more to do with her.

First Melendez and now Claire. I like Lim but I'm not sure I like her enough to watch the show for her.

I don't like Jordan except as a supporting player, and Noah not at all so bringing them up primary character status isn't going to make me want to watch any more.

Disappointing to hear she is leaving. I respect the actor wanting to do other stuff, but she is one of the better characters.

I saw this on my phone earlier, and kind of wished they waited until tomorrow to release the interview. I assume her exit is explained in tonight's episode, so it's a bit of a spoiler.

Agree that her story is played out, but I did like her, and I will miss the character.

I wonder if they are going to have her decide to stay in Central America, because she feels her skills are needed there, as a reason for leaving the show.

I think that there is more story to tell with her as she moves to an attending just as Shaun does and gets a relationship she can be happy in, but I'd rather see Claire stay in South America than quit to take care of her dying father.

She'd probably have to requalify though.

Well, damn!  I was gearing up for the finale tonight and I stumbled upon this!  That should certainly make tonight interesting...

Judging from the interview though, it sounds like it might be the right call for her since it sounded like she wasn't a fan of how long American television shows can be each season and feels burned out on a creative level.  I do wonder if that is an issue that other British actors (or actors from other countries) feel, whenever they do an American network show.  I do imagine that even the best ones can feel grueling at times.

Still, despite my quips about Claire always seeming to suffer, I will miss her and Antonia Thomas on the show.  Hopefully she gets some great gigs going forward, but I will not be against her making a return every now and then (assuming nothing bad happens to Claire in the next two hours...)
