Oh WOW, that episode on Ab Fab was hysterical, that was Idris??? I remember he accidentally sprayed some kind of sex enhancing spray on his tongue which made it numb and stick out, he was a total riot. I think he was Patsy's "date". Whoa, glad somebody remembered this. That made my day. Love that Idris! Cheers Mate!

That was him - great episode!  I keep trying to find something on Youtube or a reference somewhere, but nothing.  Maybe Idris is suppressing this one!  Maybe he should do more comedy.

Ok, these women are wanting everyone to call the LV shooter a domestic terrorist, which he is, but they never got out of joint when our President Obama always refused to call all the Arab attackers, in places like France and England, Islamic terrorists.  And beside that, let's come together and mourn the dead regardless of politics before we start ripping each other again.

Save us from over-produced opening segments to daytime talk shows. Please don't get me wrong. I am horrified and sick over the mass murder in Las Vegas.

What I'm objecting to is the opening montage, replete with maudlin background music, and then prolonged opening shot of the four hosts unlit for a moment, before today's episode even began. It seemed like grief pornography to me.

Despite my criticism to some of what they do, I do hold out some hope that Whoopi and Joy will treat this with candor and respect, without going where their producers just did -- probably Sara too, but I'm less certain about Sunny. When she's "on" I appreciate Sunny, but other times she rubs me the wrong way. There's something that strikes me as inauthentic.

I'm not as far as you are yet, KLovestoShop, so I haven't heard Joy's comments to which you're objecting. President Obama didn't adopt the pet phraseology of "radical Islamic terrorism," because he wasn't going to buy into the ISIS idea that the West is at war with Islam (http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2015/dec/11/war-words-fight-over-radical-islamic-terrorism/). By the way, I think at least some of those attackers in places like France and England, while Muslim (religion), were not Arabs (geology). 

Joy using the phrase "domestic terrorism" isn't loaded in the same way, imo. That said, it might not be the correct use of the word, definitionally, depending on his motive. Implicit in the word terrorism is a political motive or aim, above and beyond terrifying people with heinous acts.  Now that I'm catching up, I see Whoopi doesn't understand the political aspect of the definition of the word, and can't even hear what Sara is saying, as she is trying to explain it.

And oh no, they bookended the opening segment with Tom Petty's "Free Falling." Today's production team needs to lay off the emo.

Yes!  This has been happening since the Princess Diana thing.  Grief pornography is a great term.

It's all I can think of when I see stuff like that (and you're so right about it happening since Diana's death). I can understand why they didn't have the hosts trot out to the theme song. That too would have been gross. I wish they'd just opened directly with the women at the table and a brief, dignified statement.

Right? No wonder he struggled with addiction. I wanted to jump through my TV and medicate him.  I couldn't even listen to what he had to say, so I have no idea if I agree, disagree, or would have been somehow offended. I did laugh at Sunny trying to get a word in edgewise, though. The funniest part is that she was trying to help him promote his book, which is why he was there, and yet he still had to talk over her.

I'm glad Whoopi noted that the Viola Davis interview was pre-taped, so that people wouldn't think she was oblivious to the Vegas atrocity.

Yep, Russell came on strong suggestively to Sherry the way she used to with male guests. She couldn't handle the turnabout and was flustered.   I Loved it!!!

God Almighty, could they not "go there" about Las Vegas, with divisive politics for one day????

I am so hating the news and news programs since November. Sick of it all.

Yes she was so hypocritical  like a dog in heat pawing every man and talking about her virginity and he moved in and said he would help her out.   She tweeted he was a creep after which I found so unprofesdional.  I happen to love him but  found a Robin Williams exhausting. 

I saw him in concert in Santa Ynez ( was married to Katy) and loved him just taking off into the audience the heck with sound / camera guys and cords that he trailed through the audience.   I'm old and appreciate kind people and he's active in small sober houses. 

All in all loving the show with the misding Jed

I think Russell's mind moves a mile a minute, so you have to be really alert to keep up - his accent doesn't help.

I believe Sunny is right regarding gun control - if nothing changed with the deaths of 20 children, you won't see anything changing now.  Just too much money involved!

As an opinion show (their points of view), I think it's fair to "go there".  What else could they say that  our prayers & thoughts are with you - getting a little tired of this phrase, it's NOT helpful.

I still remember that! Her face was so funny.* I really used to not like him because he came across so egotistical and sleazy (and so does Sherri...). Since he came out about his addiction issues a couple years ago, I feel almost entirely different about him. The way he speaks is very overwhelming, but thankfully I can get beyond that. My sister talks in a similar way and my mother can't stand it. She always says she feels like she's hyperventilating listening to her.

*Another reason I remember that interview with Brand is because, well, to me he had the male version of a camel toe going on.

i love him also but like you, in small doses. he does seem to have a lot of energy! me, not so much!  i can't wait to read his new book though. i agree with him on so much.

Oh, wonderful, we got one last visit from the hyena laugh during Idris Elba’s interview. I really only know him from voice acting roles. He is very handsome.

Catching up, I laughed at all the comments about Sheri with Russell, because I came here specifically to say that the way they introduced Idris Elba today bothered me a little. He is certainly hotter than fire, but he's primarily a hell of an actor. I'm a straight woman, but I kept thinking, "If this were an all-male talk show and they were introducing a talented actress who was as hot of a woman as Elba is a man, I would be offended and grossed out."

Now, I understand women just don't (generally speaking) pose the same potential threat to men which many men pose to women. I understand the history of how women (particularly in show business) have been treated/viewed by the industry. I don't know.

I don't think there's anything wrong with acknowledging his good looks and sex appeal. For his part, Elba didn't seem too uncomfortable, and even played along a little, when he wasn't certain if Sunny said, "mountain," or "mounted," but... again, I don't know. As attractive as I find him, it kind of made me squirm.

What do you all think? (Just curious. I've already expressed my discomfort.)

It IS a little unseemly.  I'm not that comfortable with the hosts (male or female) fawning over people in this way.  I'm not sure it bothers men in the same way it bothers women, though (to be introduced as a hottie).

@General Days I have the same reaction. It's not just on The View.  Its ok to say someone is beautiful or stunning. But to indicate a sexual attraction is taking it too far, unless you're in a dating situation. Especially in person. Can we praise actors for their acting ability, instead of "hotness?"

Our society has done a weird flip-flop on the issue. Shows like DWTS or bachelor shows, have women wearing very revealing clothes, but avoid directly comments on body parts. But men are openly sexualized, mentioning their abs, or hotness, or swooning over a guy taking his shirt off.  Telling a woman to show more skin is seen as creepy and sexist, but it's acceptable to do it to men?

I totally agree. The double standard was very obvious. This is why I just roll my eyes whenever these ladies complain about sexism. They are completely and totally oblivious to the fact that THEY are sexist.
