I'll chime in from lesbianville on the going down issue, even though it's obviously different with women. My parnter (she's Mexican, and I'm black) and I do it to each other occasionally,  but most times during sex we do not. I don't know that either of us dislikes it, but it tends to happen more on special occasions than regular nights. It also happens when we're tipsy for some reason. Lol.

When I still dated guys, I hated doing it. But if I expected to receive it was only fair to give.

I don't know any straight women personally who say they enjoy it. I've always thought of it being something you did to please your mate. I imagine if I enjoyed it as much as some of you I may not have started dating females. Seriously, I really hated it!

Since it also came up, I dated black guys and white guys back in the day. I never dated a whie guy who didn't go down, and I only dated one black guy who did. I know that's my anecdotal evidence  so it doesn't mean much.

I guess I am a complete oxymoron. I love going down  on my mate and get physically turned on by it, but I do not like having him or anyone going down on me. I do have a very healthy sexually appetite. It just goes to show women are very varied.

So are men.  When it comes to sex, there are very few absolutes* about what is pleasurable to everyone which is why it's kind of funny seeing people declare that no one or everyone is or isn't into something.

Except semen in the eye.  I think I'm sticking by that declaration that people don't like it.  (Although I fully expect to see links to how some people into S&M like this.)

But I do think it's interesting to look at the data on it.  There was a study that looked at how people felt about their last hookups involving oral and it does look like men love giving it (52%) more than women love giving it (28%).  But then there's another tier that found it somewhat pleasurable (41%M/55%F) which is where I think most "doing it to please my partner" people might fall.  7% of men and 17% of women who gave it didn't like it.  But of everyone, it was interesting to discover that 66% of men were on the receiving end of oral and only 44% of women were.

I bet the reasons behind why women are less enthusiastic about it could fill dissertations as I do think there are societal and physical reasons behind it.  The biggest mistake was not laying some minor ground rules before she started.

Or maybe she should have used one of those flavored condoms.  I know it's not considered the optimal blow job outfit but it'd be safe and facial free.

I'm reminded of the storyline from that movies years ago the brothers with Morris Chestnut and many others. There was a storyline featuring dl hughley and tamala Jones where they were married but she never went down on him. She always had a fear of gagging on it but also her mom raised her to fear it basically. Saying things like going down on a guy will give you cancer.

If the episode only had the BJ discussion among the girls, not the scene with Daniel and Issa, maybe it wouldn't have generated as much discussion.

Reminds me of the episode in Girls a few years ago when Adam was trying to recreate a porn scene without telling the woman.  That resulted in a lot of posts.

Kind of interesting that Issa couldn't or wouldn't cope when Nico showed he wanted more than a casual hookup.

She can't get serious about any man at the moment?  Or about any man who isn't Lawrence?

Or maybe being turned away at the door by the neighbor made her want just one thing?

Issa is not good at casual dating. If she wants just sex with Nico (which is dumb, he seems like a good dude that she had a nice vibe with), you establish that up front. That was embarrassing. If all Issa wants is people to have sex with, she can and should be very open about that on Tinder - God knows most men are open about that.

$5500 to fix her car?! Ouch. $5500 is a down payment on a car, or a whole other used car. Also this show highlighted the class differences between the friends - Issa is clearly much worse off financially than Molly the corporate lawyer. (Actually, I'd guess she's the brokest one in the group.) Molly heard $5500 and thought, well, that means a smaller vacation; Issa heard $5500 and thought "How am I going to eat?" We knew that, of course - Issa's apartment is more modest, Molly lives in a posh high rise - but this episode really highlighted it.

Lawrence and his coworker are going to hook up.

She has - she gave one to Lawrence last season. (I mean, I assume that over their 5-year relationship, she gave a lot of them, but we saw her give one to him last season.)

Yeah! Especially since Molly lives alone. That was a nice spot they were in!

I appreciate this realism.  They are well educated proffesionals, but Issa is just going to be making less bank at a non profit and its okay.

ITA that Issa was being bratty with her hotation. The whole point is that there is no commitment or expectation, yet she got pissy that when she dropped by the neighbor's place unannounced, he had the nerve not to just be sitting around waiting to have sex with her. Then she made plans to have dinner with Nico and got pissy when he wanted to, you know, actually go to dinner like they had planned.

Sorry, Molly, but you don't really get to be super exasperated when your friend with benefits has to leave because HIS WIFE needs him. I mean, no, getting locked out of the house isn't the same level of need as being in a car accident or something really dramatic, but still. Do you expect her to sit on the porch all night waiting for you to finish fucking her husband at a hotel? Speaking of which, I'd love to her Candice and Dro having a budget meeting about their open marriage expenses. How much are they allowed to spend on hotel rooms, dinners, and other costs of the people they're sleeping with?

I would love to hear a guy's assessment of Tiffany's blow job skills (obviously Derrick has no reason to complain since, as the saying goes, a blow job is better than no job). She sounds like the kind of girl who thinks she's awesome at everything but might really only be okay at most of those things.

Hhhmm not sure why it's important to you to believe I don't enjoy doing something I've said twice that I do, or to misread my words (which I'm really, really trying to keep at least NC-17!) to support your assertion. Let me break it down: after I suck it, I'm soaking wet. But I get it--after you do, you're not. Totally cool beans. I'm turned on by the look of it, the feel of it, the thought of it. You--not so much. Different strokes, different folks.

More of my girlfriends share my feelings on this than don't  so maybe birds of a feather...

Stats: totally unconfused 36 yo bi-racial (black/white) woman here, married 5 years.

Amen. Me and my girls must be too :-)

It's kind of odd that Issa and Kelly are talking about hoetations and such, yet are such prudes about their repertoire.

This is what is wierd to me.  Issa wants no strings casual sex, but totally on her own terms.  I don't even think she is enjoying the dick all that much...what she wants is the power to enjoy men and dimiss them when she is done.  I ain't mad at her, but these hook ups will not make her happy.

The irony is she is not the type to attractfuck boys...she actually attracts guys who want more.

Molly reminds me of a much better version of Tony from Girlfriends...smart, good looking, and addictrd to drama.  I don't even think she is that into Dro, justfascinated by the open marriage.

I will strongly disagree with the not into Dro part. I don't see anything to read other than her being into the man. There may be a bit of unconscious self sabotage  at work because this could never work and she needs more work on herself before she could make anything work. But, the feelings are there for sure. She wouldn't be so conflicted about it all if she wasn't into him.

Yeah, and Issa could do whatever the hell she wanted to, she went to freaking Stanford...Stanford, which is like the Harvard of the west coast. She needs to go out there and pursue what she truly wants to pursue and stop wasting time.

Which by the way, real Issa is doing what she really wants to with that Stanford degree behind her.

I disagree with the sentiment that she's wasting her time.  As a fellow non-profiter (who went to a great private school and has a science PhD), I could be doing lots of other things that would pay me so so much more.  But I enjoy the work I do and have a strong passion for it (despite all the obvious downsides), and I suspect that Issa the character feels the same way.  We non-profit folks accept that we will be broke for the rest of our lives!  That's why I, personally, am on the hunt for a sugar daddy.....

That's the thing, I don't suspect she feels that way, I don't get that at all from her. I don't think she enjoys her work. I wouldn't have posted what I did if I truly got the impression that she was enjoying and getting fulfillment out of the work. I don't necessarily think she loathes it either, but I definitely get the impression that it's not exactly where/what she wants to be doing. She doesn't seem to have a passion for the work and neither do most of that staff IMO. They just don't seem all that enthusiastic about what they're doing, none of them. Most of them seem burnt out, if they don't seem entirely out of touch in those meetings.

Last season, it definitely felt like Issa was over her job, but it seemed like she had a level of recommittment after the talk with her boss.  I think that's why she's trying so hard with the new after-school program, despite the obvious issues with the principal.  But I can see your perspective and why that's the feeling you get.  They are definitely all burnt out and show it/act like it (welcome to the non-profit world - I have the burnt out convo with my staff every week!).

But I love being able to identify every type of non-profit worker on the We Got Y'all team, from the overly idealistic founder to the folks who think they're being progressive but are super prejudiced/privileged, down to the chick who hates everything about the job, and says it every opportunity she gets (Patricia, I think).

Samantha Jones' (from sex and the city) rant about blowjobs pretty much sums up my feelings:

"You men have no idea what we’re dealing with down there. Teeth placement, and jaw stress, and suction, and gag reflex, and all the while bobbing up and down, moaning and trying to breathe through our noses. Easy? Honey, they don’t call it a job for nothing."

I think I suck at it (no pun intended), mostly because my jaws are extremely weak. I aways feel like I'm going to get lockjaw after 3 minutes. I enjoy making Mr. Maverick feel good but beyond that, meh. It's a lot of work for me.

To be fair, I'm not all that crazy about receiving either. Just give me the D and I'm happy lol.

As it relates to the scene itself, I saw a comment on Twitter that I thought was funny. Something about how that entire conversation felt dated because women are out here eating ass now. LOL

I agree with a pp...Issa acted like a spoiled child with Nico. I'm over her foolishness with this hotation. She ain't about that life.

That said, please let us

I'm still waiting for Candice to cosign Dro's assertion of their relationship.  Until then, I'll still believe that he is lying.

It'd be interesting to see if they have rules he's breaking, like don't sleep with friends, but I hope he's not lying about the open relationship.  I think it's far more interesting to see Molly wrestle with her choice to be with someone who can't make her their #1than for it to blow up because Dro was lying the whole time.

I thought he was lying at first, but given how easily the truth could be found out, he'd be foolish to lie. He could get away with lying to a stranger, but Molly knows his wife. Plus, Molly is his closest friend. I don't think he would purposely betray and hurt her like that. It's possible, but he doesn't strike me as cruel. I do wish he could see why this relationship is bad for Molly, though. He should never have gone there with her.

I had to laugh. I asked my female friend at work who I can talk about stiff like this. I told her about the episode and this thread in regards to the notion that no women enjoying doing it or women don't do it at all. Her response was "I'm hurt" "They still make women out there like that?" I fell out. I also no multiple women that would have that same response.

With the whole booty thing. That's honestly probably at least partly why it catches me off guard. All the stuff people are out here doing. Basic foreplay seems almost quaint. Not that it means people have to do it now. Just that it's pretty basic. I could imagine it having it's complications but going down on women ain't no sunny day in the park either. It is very much work.

Yes, this was a trying episode for Issa. She's clearly not comfortable with this ho phase, and she needs to stop, immediately. The worse was when she threw out Nico. I get not wanting to start up a relationship after you just got out of a long-term one, but Jesus, Issa. She gave me whiffs of Molly in that scene. Tossing aside a seemingly good dude for bullshit.

Issa is no stranger to blow jobs, considering she went down on Lawrence last season, but I think Issa is one of those types that's willing to go further sexually when she's comfortable with you. That's something I can appreciate and relate to. I'm going to assume that Lawrence thinks face skeets are degrading and he never did that to Issa, so that's why she was so disgusted and overreacted. Of course it doesn't help that she has hangups about blow jobs in general.

Which leads me to:

But I think that scene did show the varies of opinions about it. You had one that loved it, two that were lukewarm, and one that didn't do it at all. I did like that they touched on the stereotype of only 'hoes' give head and how men treat women as disposable after you've done it. It's as if they (fuckboys, really) lose respect because there's stigmas attached to it on both sides. Same goes for pleasing women. Chad seems like one of those types that would dump a woman if she didn't give head, but he wouldn't reciprocate.

Molly asked Dro the wrong question. What she should've asked is if Candice knows that Dro is sleeping with her. I still think Dro is only telling a half truth about this. They're in an open marriage, but the rule is probably no family/close friends and since latent feelings for Molly stirred up, he's violating the agreement.

Yes to all.    Please support the petition to get Issa's hoe card revoked.   She. all. wrong.   Aside from which, if you tripping at a splash off, bail now ma, it only gets worse from here.   While on the one hand I think she was a lot with her reaction, I get how she got there.  I don't think it's that upsetting necessarily but it looked bigger than that to me.  More like whatever she associated with it.  I told my dude some of us have been told by more than one source that for a man to come on your face is an act of degradation - like as part of the sexual act - it's like a thing that accompanies temporarily treating you like he would a hooker.    Now for the women who've believed this (along with that dick sucking will give you cancer, make your teeth buck, etc) it'd put em in a weird spot so to speak, no?  Am I a hoe if I liked that?  If I make it look like I'm cool with taking face shots does he think I do that all the time.....?  It's complicated.   I'm just saying I got her (underlying) reaction.   She's conflicted.  She's really really not about this life.   Somebody come get your girl's pussy training wheels, she not ready yet.    Bless her heart.

She wearing me out with this here too:  #DosEquisBae is hella fine, hella funny and from the good dude tribe.  She shooe'd him away like a nuisance.  Bih there are two decent, flat abbed big booty'd dudes feeling you right now.   Ok you're not ready for a relationship, but there are real gottam shortages out here, hoetry is a marathon, not a sprint.   You just out here tho'in it when you Nico could've shined a hole in the floor.  All that man wanted was to take your broke ass to Ruth's Chris.

I like how Woot Woot was a metaphor for his relationship with Issa. The idea he came up with was probably game changing 5+ years ago when he and Issa got together, but when he lost his motivation, competitors took over and it fizzled out. When his pitch was shot down, that signified that everything associated with Issa is in the past.

Why yes, English was my favorite subject in school.

Yes, and Issa shares these qualities as well. What they had in common is what ended them.

How bout the kicker was when she said what the problem was, he wasn't listening.   Parallel much?  You see how he didn't consider how his complacency contributed to the breakdown until his boy pulled his collar?   Lawrence needs to get better at hearing it from a woman, the first time.

LOL at the first bolded sentence!

The second...the proliferation of current porn has created this very real problem wherein everyone thinks they are supposed to look, act and sound like porn, which is oh, so wrong. People who came of age in the late 1990s/early 2000s and after think porn is what normal sex is like. Sex is really like the rest of what you write here so well. It's messy, a bit (or a lot) of work, often weird, but ultimately pleasurable if you're (generic "you") in it for the right reasons for you.

I was about to say! Porn ruined sex, which is the greatest irony of all. It's why NeighborBae was asking if he could titty fuck Issa, to which she had to respectfully decline. It's why so many times (for men and women who sleep with each other) they believe that a woman will orgasm off of penetration alone. Can it happen? Certainly. But it doesn't happen for a good majority of women. Porn is why far too many people think that sex begins with penis-in-vagina penetration and ends when the man ejaculates.

I could go on, but I'mma step off this soap box.

I just wanna end with a shallow bit: Daniel's abs are too too beautiful. But I was reminded the day before yesterday how male body standards have changed over the years. I was home sick and decided to watch Soul Food (the series) on YouTube. There was a scene in one episode when Kenny, Lem, and Damon meet up for some pick-up basketball. Of course, our three male co-stars were skins while the three extras they played against were shirts. Now, don't get me wrong: Kenny, Lem, and Damon had great bodies but their abs were in no way cut the way Daniel's is cut. Good lawd.

Issa certainly didn't come with Lawrence the three-stroke joke on the couch. Molly's acting like Dro's intercourse (I sound like a high school health teacher) is heaven, but as @Mozelle said upthread, there's a large percentage of women that can't orgasm from penetration alone. That certainly doesn't mean everyone, and that doesn't mean that p-in-v sex isn't pleasurable, just that a lot of women need, well, clitoral stimulation to reach orgasm.

Don't report me!

Girl! Third of all, he the neighbor. Keep the hotation AWAY from your front door. Why people like to mess around with people where they sleep, eat and work is beyond me. Then shit goes left and I gotta play "Hide And Lord Please Don't Let This Fool See Me" when I'm just trying to go home? No thanks. Bitches be messy.

Lol!  When she remembers she don't have a car to put $9 worth of gas in, he'll come to mind.   p.s.  I'm mad as hell at ya'll west boast, why haven't you burned down the damn state capital over the price of gas??  almost $4 a gallon.  Trippin.

Yes, please don't discriminate.  One of the conversational topics this show has prompted is about not limiting yourself.  It's probably the only thing I like about the hotetation.   That's something black women hesitate to do and I wish they wouldn't because black men don't limit themselves.   That's how the hell we wound up with a corny catfish ass nih like Felix.   What black man has never seen braids before? Lol.  Can ya'll tell I'm retroactively salty?

Gawn and say it guh.   Naw but really, I should've said it's not so much that I think it should look the way it does in flicks.   Research and development has yielded that some of these heffas is double jointed so that shit is unlikely lol.  I meant that it's helpful in terms of what's possible, even if unrealistic.   Capacity and accommodation.  And stuff like is she pacing her breathing like a runner right now?  Are her teeth chicklet sized or something.  I haven't once eaten a banana or a lollipop without bearing down at some point so....

Annnnnehooo....lol.  Girl.   We not doing a damn thing about it either and that's our problem.  Men NEVER EVER lower their physical standards.  If we just banded together and decided as a Team that we will only accept applications from dudes who are fluffy in the same places and to the same extent we are and throw the rest back - we could change the world.  Lol!    We gave up {{tapschin}} oh, near bout 2005, in there somewhere.   Now all we have left are long winded ass imhoteps and chubby pastors.  It's our own damn fault.   #ThrowTheRestBack.   But, cuffing season.  I get it

BTW, speaking of porn, there's a huge preoccupation with analyzing porn.  For instance, almost 3000 post discussing some clip.  It isn't just sex talk though, it's a lot about sex politics and social observation:

Now wait a second now. A stroke game is still important to sex. It is part of the multi-course meal. It does not, however, begin and end there, which is what I was getting at. DO NOT MAKE EXCEPTIONS OR EXCUSES FOR WHACK STROKAGE! Just as you'd expect the 3rd course of the meal to still be as amazing if not amazing-er than the 1st and 2nd, the entire sex experience has to be great...has to be at a premium, which means that--taking it back to sex--foreplay should be great, intercourse should be great, and that sex isn't over after only one person (namely the man*) has orgasmed. That's all. ;)

(Also, um, I'm gonna have to peek at that WorldStar clip when I'm not on the work wifi lol.)

I just had to count backward from 10 to 1 lol. Like, that fool really acted as though it was his first interaction with a Black woman. He treated Issa like she had catfished him when all she did was dare to take out her braids. Makes me wonder if Felix was new to dating Black women...or new to Black women, period. *thinking face emoji*

*That's how Lawrence played himself in that threesome LOL.

It's a slow Friday so I'll step on it.  I don't think porn is responsible for the belief that women can orgasm from penetration alone.  That myth has been around for a long time.  Heck Freud would talk about how clitoral orgasms were "immature" while vaginal orgasms were "mature."  (But yes, in other areas it does give off terrible misconceptions about sex which isn't bad until some man tries to pornify his actual relations instead of communicating with his partner.)

But it's also why I roll my eyes at the study where more women performed oral on men and even talk of reciprocity.  I am all for pleasuring a partner but I do object to the notion that oral sex on men vs. oral sex on women serve similar functions or are of equal importance when far more men will orgasm off of penetration alone while a majority of women usually need something extra. Whether that's tongue, fingers or toys.  So a lot of the time, blow jobs are a bonus while cunnilingus might border on necessary.

As a gay man this whole blowjob business is utterly fascinating to me because it perfectly lines up with what I hear all the time with straight women and reinforced with stereotypes constantly shown in this episode.

These issues with blowjobs are far as I can tell only exist with straight women, I have never, ever, ever heard a gay guy complaining about getting it in the face or not wanting to give one or not getting proper warning to get away from the release. I mean I am sure there some outliers but I was watching it with my partner and both of us were like Really? Do you not know how this works?

Face, mouth, body, finding it gross, this is just not a thing that exists in the gay male community besides extreme outliers, the only complaints I ever hear about are it getting on furniture,  clothing or difficult to clean bedding. Like if this topic came up out drinking with friends/strangers people would be like "Uh, so what's the problem, he didn't get you a towel or lick it off of you? The idea that it getting on your face was some sort of issue would be unfathomable as far as my experience short of him like deliberately trying to get it your eye or something.

I agree with everyone that Issa needs to get off her hotation rotation.  She is bad at it.  Like really bad.  I actually fast forwarded through the Nico scene because I was so embarrassed and sad for her.  My heart can't take it anymore.

I am not surprised that Issa is rather unsophisticated about sex.  She's supposed to be in her 20s, right?  And she's been with Lawrence for five years.  And she's basically socially awkward anyway  Added to that, I think on the whole black women trend a little more conservatively when it come to sex, despite stereotypes to the contrary.

re: blowjobs.   Sex has a mental as well as physical component.  Not necessarily emotional, but mental.  How you feel about what (and who) you are doing can have a powerful physical affect on you.  I can say that I was rather indifferent about blow jobs until I met my husband.  I did them, but more as a matter of sexual performance than sexual pleasure.  But my husband makes them really enjoyable.  He is vocal and a dirty talker and he is really, really into it.  So he's single handedly transformed how I feel about them.  I like them now and not just because he likes them but they've become a an enjoyable part of sex for both of us.

And finally, I feel for Lawrence (for the first time in a long time) about not getting valuable feedback at work because he is black.  Been there.   And it was in the same benign way he is being treated.  His workplace stuff is an interesting contrast to Molly's.  Even though hers can be seen in a more sinister light, his is just as bad because he isn't getting the type of development and feedback he should be getting at work because of race.

Bit late to the game, but HAD to say, I love giving BJs.  Like I enjoy the physicality of it.  I've learned to use my hands so not being able to breath and worrying about gagging are not in my rotation.  I switch to just hands when I need to chill for a minute.   I don't think there is anything wrong with not enjoying it, and I don't think I'm superior to anyone or more sexually evolved than someone else who doesn't.  It takes all different kinds of folks.  But please believe me, at nearly 43 years old, I've been done for a hot minute doing shit to impress a dude.  My guy looooooooves high heels.  I'll wear them on his birthday because I don't want the discomfort of wearing them.  But I know plenty of women who wear them comfortable on the reg, and I would never deem to tell them it wasn't so.  Now, I'll admit I've gotten halfway through before and gotten bored because it's taking too damn long, but that's true of just about anything in my life.  Point being, it's safe to believe there are straight women who enjoy giving blow jobs.

OMG!!! LMAO!! Basically how I feel. I was ready to slap Issa at how she treated Nico. Girl! Girl! She was working my nerves this episode and last episode. Damn near 30 and her maturity level on some things is just astonishingly on some next level fuckery. Like someone else said, if you gonna hoe, be upfront about it. Make better choices, too. Neighbor bae? WTF was that? I was also ready to slap her over the sperm in the eye. Yeah, not cool but totally her fault in IMO. Move, get out the way. I mean this ain't never happened in all my years*. Shit, you can tell when your partner is about to come. Commit to swallowing or move. Damn. It's really not that difficult.

I ain't got nothing to say about Molly. Girl, still in self-sabotage mode. I don't think Dro lying. I just don't see who either one of them can't see the bigger picture with this. Dro ain't hard up so what's his problem? He got latent feelings for her and just going to take his chance?

*I'm in my 30s and been with my husband for almost 20 years. Never got it where it wasn't supposed to be. Personally, I don't like the physical act of it. Like Samantha said, it is a job. But it makes my man happy so I do it and enjoy it as much I can.
