Oliver returns to the mayor's office and faces one of his most pressing issues yet, the forced release of dozens of violent criminals prosecuted by Adrian Chase. Meanwhile, a crate is delivered to Oliver's office containing a mysterious corpse encased in concrete.

Overall thoughts the Flashbacks suck up time and screw with the flow of the episode. Can't wait for them to be over with.

I like Rene and thought we had a good Rene/Lance scene but those scenes also interrupted the flow and were mostly unnecessary.

I loved the 2 Olicity scenes, one was cute and the other heartfelt. I love that Felicity's pep talk got Oliver to put the suit on again.

I knew Chase was totally playing Oliver, that smile at the end was clear. This is all part of some grand plan.

Dinah is growing on me, they need to keep her as the straightman to Rene and Curtis OOT characters.

The Thea/Oliver scenes and the Thea/Robert Video scene were really good. Thea is a character that they need to keep around, she adds a level to Oliver just like Diggle (brother/BFF) and Felicty (LI) add.

I wasn't feeling the fights tonight. Still don't care about Flashbacks but, I adore Anatoly.

This was a little boring at times but had some great character moments.

I enjoyed all of the Oliver/Thea scenes, especially the last one. But why did Oliver refuse to believe his father was a murderer? He shot a man right in front of him in the Pilot episode! Like, whaaaat. Anyway, Thea was the one with sense and I enjoyed that a lot.

Lovely Olicity scenes, however brief. The touching is back! The walls have come down! I liked how he'd asked her to find William. Already that shows him opening up to her. And of course the best was when she inspired him to put his GA suit on again. "Felicity has a way with words."

Once again I felt like the Rene subplot didn't fit in the episode, though I get the feeling it won't ever fit tbh.

I don't know how it is possible, but my love for Olicity has grown at least 69 times in this episode when she was the one to inspire Oliver to suit up again

“I can’t believe that my father was a killer.”

Except for that one time that Oliver saw his father blow away a member of his own crew before taking his own life.

“You’re locking up people without a trial, Lyla!”

But hey, ignore what we’re currently doing with Chase.

That aside, I really did enjoy this episode and the focus on Robert Queen.  I had forgotten about the whole Goodwin thing.  Great seeing Thea return and I like Oliver returning to the Island.  One more fight with Drago and that’s the end of these flashbacks.

My main two things coming out of this episode were, in order:

Yay! We got a Roy mention!

and

What in the seven hells was Felicity wearing?

Other than that it was all a bit blah again. Oh, and while I'm not familiar with US family law and court procedures,  if children were likely to be traumatised by things said then surely they would be taken out of the room?

I need a gif of when Felicity's telling Thea what Oliver did. "It was so epic."

She's the cutest!

After two really great episodes back to back, I really feel the let down while watching this one. It wasn't terrible, though if Oliver said "leave the past in the past" one more time I think my eyes would have rolled right out of their sockets.

First the Olicity.  A nice early shoulder touch and then a really solid longer heart to heart.  I kept waiting for them to hug or something though.  They are like magnets being kept apart.  You can just feel that the laws of physics wants to pull them together.

Oliver and Thea were the big stars.  Some really lovely moments between them.

Rene still gets far too much attention on this show.  Why him show?  Why him?  I do love Lance.  PB was witty and sarcastic in his scenes with Oliver as well.  More of that.  Less of Rene the idiot.  I know he probably got kidnapped at the end but still.  He'd rather let her think he doesn't want her than talk about stuff you know she knows like how her mom died.  Punk.

I HATE how many guns are on the team and from the blood splatter, those were NOT tranqs.  It ends up making Oliver look silly with his bow and arrows.

I love Anatoly and he was fun in every scene even if the flashbacks added nothing but confirmation that the awful island wig from the pilot WAS a wig.  Also, apparently they are going with Oliver learned to fly a plane from watching his dad fly one.  I could have sworn he told Slade he did not know how to fly.  Kind of crazy that Kovar would know where the island is. Nice that Oliver won't be lonely while he waits for the boat.

Overall the episode left me feeling pretty meh but that's almost to be expected after the last couple weeks.

This episode was Back To Basics, with the fights and the plotty plot and flashbacks and occasional great character moments.  I didn't enjoy it as much as the last two.  Moments grabbed me but overall it was a C.

I do like Anatoli and Oliver in the past though.  They're a great comedy team.  I'm sad that they're at odds in the present.

I wish Thea would suit up again.  She can replace Rene, it would even up the sex ratio on Team Arrow.  I know I'm suppose to feel sympathy for Rene but all I can see is that Zoe has a better chance of growing up healthy away from him. He'd rather fight bad guys than fight for her daughter.

That said, Rene's probably been kidnapped or something because we have to feel sorry for him.  Even if the other members have to save him.

Felicity's maiden aunt outfit was awful.  Her scenes with Oliver were cute.  I'm glad the show has gone back to having a deeper connection between them rather than acting like two co-workers who don't even attend the same Christmas party.

I'm not believing that Chase just gave up when he heard that his father was going to disown him.  He wants to be put in the ARGUS prison on Lian Yu.

One thing, I find it hard to believe that Chase could find William so easily but Felicity can't? Stop downgrading her skills! Grrr.

My current head canon is that Samantha was actually not that great at hiding their trail but after Chase found them, he buried it deep. Not enough that she wouldn't figure it out eventually but that's also why he gets captured so quick, so they stop looking for William in the meantime.

I comforted myself with the knowledge that Felicity has been looking for a week or so - Chase could have been at it for a year - and could have covered whatever tracks he followed.  Because otherwise I would have thrown something at my TV.

Rene - still a big bowl of just don't care.  If you are that pressed about the hearing - perhaps you need to give this some more thought.

I have been wondering about Thea's file from her father - glad they did not drop that ball.  It was good to have Thea back - hopefully both she and Oliver really do move on from the our bad parents define us stuff.

Felicity and Diggle continue to be the reason I hang on with this show even when Oliver is a box of rocks.

Oh,  I have a head canon answer for this, for which I will use myself as an example.   I'm always dressed up.   Right now,  drinking wine on my couch,  I'm completely dressed.   I don't like being in pajamas unless I'm going to bed,  or sweats unless I'm going to the gym.  No one else I know has this trait.   I actually feel very uncomfortable in like,  gym clothes or whatever.  But I talked to some of my psychology friends and basically,  my clothing is armor.   I want people to feel that I'm completely in control and ready for anything and in charge,  so I have to look the part constantly.  Then they brought up some stupid childhood stuff that I hated but whatever.

I imagine Felicity also likes to consistently come off as someone who is prepared.

I'm pretty sure Chase has been working on looking for William since it was announced to the world last season that William is Oliver's son.  (See, Samantha, all that could have been avoided if you had just let Felicity know so she could protect him.) Chase plans ahead.

I'm guessing that if the Diggles celebrate Father's Day, it won't be anywhere near the Arrowcave. I mean, we got as happy an ending as we can on this series, but Oliver and Thea would still be hurting. Also Rene, even if he gains custody of his daughter.

Even with Adrian's "EXACTLY AS PLANNED!!!" smirk, I'm surprised we got a conclusion. Or at least the eye of the storm. Awesome that facts turned the mighty Prometheus into gelatin. Of course, that will go sideways. If it turns out he was good friends with Malcolm, and he raised William away from the present to become Vigilante, I wouldn't be that surprised. What is Arrow if Oliver isn't taking a shot to the nuts? And the show hasn't really gone bugfuck like The a Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

I'll bet Chase just followed Samantha and William when they left town to go into hiding, he's that many steps ahead. (Picture me rolling my eyes here.)

Oliver looked much better tonight. I don't think it's a coincidence that he's suddenly looking less rough right when he and Felicity start thawing.

I found this episode to be kinda filler. Hoping 22 and 23 deliver.

Also, I'm confused. Felicity said Samantha did a good job of hiding them but didn't ARGUS help them get away? Are you telling me it was up to Samantha to disappear?

That was a little dull after last week.

I did find it interesting that Felicity seemed to be shooting the heart eyes this week.

Loved the talk. It wasn't a "oh cheer up precious, you're the bestest best there ever was" but a real talk between two grown up people who understand and trust each other. I really liked it. I reckon they could have gone cheesy but they didn't.

I just love the way Felicity understands him, knows what he needs and isn't arrogant about it. She got him to suit up people!!!!!! I can't quite explain it but I find Felicity has a great combination of faith and love for Oliver with a touch of starry-eyed awe (when she was telling the team about how he took Prommy down) but doesn't hesitate to tell him off (per last week) when he needs it. She's the right combination of hard and soft with him, not a shrill harpy or simpering LI.

Seriously though the haters complain about Olicity but enjoy Rene's custody woes? Boggles my mind.

??ANATOLY!!!!!!!??

As much as Thea bugged me during the early seasons, I can't put into words how good it was to see her! And to see her in multiple scenes with Oliver and her giving it to him straight.

So. It was Oliver who propped up the stake with Deathstroke's mask on the island that we first saw in the second season premiere!

I do like that Oliver and Felicity aren't acting like strangers with each other.

Only halfway through, but these were my initial thoughts.

Thea lives!  It's about time she finally return.  Outside of original Team Arrow, Oliver/Thea's relationship has always been my favorite, and I enjoy the sibling chemistry between Stephen Amell and Willa Holland, and they really sell how much these two have gone through, and how much they need each other.  In some ways, their bond is unbreakable.  Enjoyed seeing Robert come back into play, and Jamey Sheridan did a great job in all of the videos.

That said, the episode wasn't bad, but kind of felt like filler and boring at times.  Despite everything they did, of course, it all ends up being part of Chase's grand plan, and he actually wanted to be capture, since that seems to be popular with every super villain of all time (see: Joker from The Dark Knight, Loki in The Avengers.)  Josh Segarra is still fantastic, but Chase's getting into impossible, all knowing territory now.  Although, to be fair, I guess Team Arrow can be pretty predictable.

So, after everything, Rene doesn't show up to his daughter's hearing?  Will he ended up being part of Chase's grand plan?  If not, then I'm really not sure why I'm suppose to care about all of this and why I'm suppose to like him, if he pulls a stunt like that.

Flashbacks consist of Oliver going back to the island and bonding more with Anatoly, only for a still living Kovar to pop out of nowhere.  I guess if you've got Dolph Lundgren, you might as well use him!

Warming up to Dinah, even if I wonder why no one finds it suspicious that she always happens to be assigned cases that involve Oliver.

Oh, hey, Cody Rhodes is back.  Briefly.

Hope it picks back up next episode.

Not a bad episode or anything, but its seemed a bit meh after the last few epic episodes that I loved so much I'm still basically riding one happy cloud from them. There are good things, but it mostly felt like turning the wheels.

Flashbacks were alright, even if I still feel like it doesn't totally match up with what we saw when the show started. It works well enough. More importantly, we got to hang out with Anatoly some more and see he and Oliver hanging out, which is always a win, especially now that they're at odds in the present. I love Anatoly, I really hope that he makes up with Oliver and retires from the mob life. Yeah I know the Russian Mob doesn't exactly have a retirement fund, but I'm sure he could figure something out. I just want them to be friends again, ok?

Thea and Oliver are great together, how I missed Thea. Although, I do kind of giggle ta Oliver being all shocked that his dad was a killer. I get that its hard to deal with a parent not being the good person you knew them as, especially when they died tragically and they clearly felt remorse for mistakes near the end, but he knew his dad was shady! He saw him kill a guy in the first episode! He was working with the rich people cabal! This isn't super new information sweetie.

Most importantly though, Olicity! They make me so happy and they need to be together forever and ever. So say we all. I love that they actually talked to each other, not in a cheerleader kind of way, but in a Real Talk way, and that she convinced him to be the Green Arrow again. I love that Felicity clearly thinks Oliver is super awesome, but is still very aware of his faults and isn't afraid to call him out when he screws up. And Oliver clearly has so much faith in her, and he lights up whenever she's around. Just hug now! Hug damn it!

Rene...I don't hate him like I used to, and I don't really want bad things to happen to him, but I don't care about his family court drama at ALL. Like, don't care even a little bit. I would rather watch Oliver and Dig watch football together than suffer through this subplot.

The shoulder touch is back! And as I said in the live thread, the touching ban has clearly been lifted. I did like that Felicity inspired Oliver to put the suit back on - even though it also has to do with the fact that for plot reasons, it had to happen in this episode, so I'm pretty sure she could have said, "Hey, Oliver, you look hot in the suit, put it on," and he would have for the exact same reason he gave the team.

I am really annoyed that Chase found William but Felicity can't? I don't care how long he's been looking for him - where did he get those kind of skills? This is Felicity Smoak, like Oliver said. I can't buy that Chase can do something Felicity can't at a computer.

I feel like even the team knows that none of them can die just yet. Being buried alive in concrete? "Meh, it's only the beginning of May, we can probably catch up on our DVRs and talk about it while Curtis and Dinah run from ... wherever they are." Were they around the corner? I don't think I paid enough attention to that. But they did get there pretty fast, at least to me.

It was really good to see Thea again, and I'm glad she got to watch her father's video, but at the same time, part of me was going, "Wait, if you watch this now, that means it's not a loose thread they need to return to in the future, so now I'm worried about her future on the show." Still, show, see how much better things are when you let the characters with relationships you've spent years developing interact and be there for one another?

The "fathers" part of the episode was just okay for me. I liked seeing more about Robert Queen, but it was so obvious that Chase was not just going to be taken down with words. He clearly is right where he wants to be.

And dear god, Rene, what the hell? Someone save Lance from this storyline because I'm starting to not like Rene again. (And not just because he seems to suddenly be part-time Team Arrow, full-time Lance's assistant at the mayor's office for some reason?) Also, does it seem cruel to anyone else to have Lance stuck in a storyline where he's watching someone trying to get their daughter back (and getting close only to not show up, probably for reasons beyond his control, yes, but still) while one of his daughters is dead and the other is time-traveling

Spoiler

and he's going to have to face his dead daughter's doppelganger?

Overall, not as good an episode as the last two, but better than most of rest of the season.

Even if Rene was kept from the hearing by Chase, he still expected to just be handed his daughter back after she was taken away because she burned herself because he  wasn't paying attention to her, and then didn't visit her for months so no sympathy for him from me.  Lots of sympathy for Lance though who is stuck in this storyline.

Found this one a bit meh. I'm usually all in for Oliver & Thea but tonight I just found them both to be downers. I'm so over the whole fathers thing. Thea being all judgmental about Robert just made me think how so much more horrible Malcolm is and yet she doesn't seem to have problems with that anymore.

I really liked the Olicity scene, though. Felicity was playing the usual role she plays this time of year — cheerleader — but it also felt like an actual convo and Oliver later quoted her words to Thea so the boy is listening. We'll see if it takes next ep :P

Felicity looks adorable in her dress. I didn't realize it was one until much later. The dress itself is not particularly special but on Felicity, I thought it worked. Sort of a sexy librarian, I don't know if the fact she actually wears glasses adds to it. The little opening in the shirt makes it flirty and playful. And Felicity's makeup is on point again.

Speaking of people looking good, I gotta say Oliver looks so much better in this ep. Looks like he got a haircut. The beard, stubble, mustache need a bit of trimming, though. But the boy no longer looks like he'd been dragged.

I'm not as annoyed with Rene but I still don't give a crap about his story. Same with Curtis and Tinah. There was one scene where there were 5 people and they finished each other's sentences. I thought it was strange AF. Felt too forced to have everybody actually have something to say. Scene likely would have flowed so much better with just Digg, Felicity & Oliver.

Oliver suits up again because Felicity reminded him, said so. There is no Green Arrow without Felicity Smoak. PASS IT ON.

Anyway, it wasn't necessarily a bad ep, just a boring one. Felt a filler, which is bad because well, sweeps, also, we're in the homestretch.

I hated the outfit as well. First I only saw the white collar and that worked magnificently with the deep red lipstick, but then just, no. It doesn't feel like Felicity at all. If the top was a separate piece, I could see Thea wearing it, but with tight leather pants or something. Since the episode wasn't that engaging, I just kept waiting for tomorrow so that Felicity could change, but zilch. While on the subject of wardrobe, I can't really say I liked Thea's light leather jacket either.

Ditto on Zoe's presence there. I don't get it.

Salty Lance and Salty Anatoly were utterly enjoyable. Even if I don't really get Anatoly throwing in with Oliver's plan to save SC when he's a) a gangster, b) has actual dealings in SC that he can expect the Hood to try to thwart.

It would be funny if Oliver doesn't end up needing Anatoly's wig because he misses the boat Anatoly sends while being occupied with Kovar and his men. It won't happen, but I think it would be cool if Oliver's decoy stay becomes a lot longer than planned. The boredom would give him time to brush up on his skills.

I love how Thea comes back after Chase is revealed ass Prometheus but there is still no mention of Oliver being kidnapped and tortured for a week. And her time away really didn't do her much good, did it? She was still of the same mindset, being doomed to repeat her parents' mistakes. To be honest, she was bugging me with dragging Oliver back into the past for a good portion of the episode, just as he was trying to break ties. It's great that he didn't get pulled in, though. And kudos on Thea calling Robert Dad, as she should.

This is actually what I was thinking they might do as a twist, making the wig a red herring. I submitted a question to MG asking what time of the year it was in the flashbacks, but if there is a twist, then he's absolutely not going to reply.  But then he might not anyway.  He didnt' answer that many questions this time.

I'm trying to wrap my head around something but just can't. So Oliver didn't want to be a murderer so he stopped killing people with arrows. But now half his team is happy to go around putting bullets into people - Diggle, Canary, Wild Dog all have shot people (I think Curtis too but I'm not 100% certain.) The kill count is off the charts.

How is Oliver reconciling all this?
