Which I think is a really mean spirited song. Did she have a really bad breakup in between songs?

I'm guessing it's more that she was trying to go for a new, tougher yet sexy image, and it's just not working. "No" peaked high but it dropped off pretty quickly.

Re the Led Zeppelin case. It was mentioned on the news there was a change in the law back in 2014 called, I believe "The 2 Second Rule". It was why the estate was able to sue.

The law may have changed, but - and I say this as someone neutral to this (though I like some LZ stuff; never heard of Spirit until this case) - where was this claim of theft in the courts 40+ years ago? I mean, perhaps statutes ran out before the new laws, but if these songs were that similar and the band thought Led Zeppelin stole, why not strike when the iron was hot?

Randy Wolfe/California (Spirit band member) didn't sue while alive, so this all seemed like a ploy for money by the lawyers or whomever. Waiting this long just made me side eye the whole thing.

This isn't to say Zeppelin did not...um...use their influences from other artists HEAVILY in some songs, but this should have been taken to task eons ago to have any weight.

Anyway, this wasn't "He's So Fine"/"My Sweet Lord" (and I liked George Harrison, but...yeah) by a country mile, IMO. Or even "Ice, Ice Baby"/"Under Pressure".

Peter Pan was my favorite movie as a kid, so hearing that song made me cry the first several times I heard it, out of nostalgia.

I *love* the new song by Lukas Graham, "Mama Said".  It has such a bright, poppy melody, and optimistic lyrics.  And it starts off a lot like "A Hard Knock Life" from "Annie".

If this is the most annoying Rihanna song you've heard since "We Found Love," then your issue is mostly with Calvin Harris since he produced both of these tracks. I'm also not a fan of his work because there just isn't much variety to his sound, but I can see why it's popular. As for the "you" ad infinitum lyrics, it's a trend in pop music completely that has nothing to do with the lyricist. Everything revolves around production, so: Beats, bass-drops, alterations in vocals (whether in pitch or rhythm), and a music break in place in of an actual chorus with words that differentiate from each other. It's just where the sound is at right now and because people under the age of 30 are massively into it. It's definitely not disco, but it's reminiscent of its popularity and influence on youth culture not unlike punk, new wave, hip-hop, or grunge, either.

I'm not a fan of the song either, but is it just me or does her singing not even sound like her? The first time I saw the video, I was surprised to see it was Rhianna singing. I had heard it on the radio but never paid attention to whose song it was, I thought it was just another one hit wonder pop princess. It doesn't sound like her voice to me at all, I wonder if it's very auto tuned?

Love, love them. I was in my late teens when all the stuff went down and I just remember being shocked at how things just turned on a dime for one comment. Because I got into them with the Fly album (I later went back and bought the first album, Wide Open Spaces) and so I was a fan when they were on top and on this incredible career high. I mean they were outselling male artists not just in country but other genres and kicking ass everywhere. And to see it come crashing down for something so ridiculous was insane to me. I did love the validation of Taking The Long Way though when they swept the Grammys and Not Ready To Make Nice is still at the top of my favorite "fuck you" songs.

Actually, I'm not that into "Not Ready To Make Nice" and I hated their "Landslide" cover but I love their first two albums. It has nothing to do with politics. It's just that when a genuine country artist can qualify for a crossover hit, it's generally not their best work. The exception might be Carrie Underwood.

Seriously, how much time do they  think he has to spend with the kids?  I imagine maybe a decade at most   - and I'm not sure either Jagger or Wood would be kicking the old soccer ball around with them either in their 80s.

She's 50 and I would be very surprised if that child doesn't have some sort of developmental issue when it is born. These people don't realize that it's the child who has to endure the harsh world and the cruel jokes. Yeah sure they are kids of celebrities but it still doesn't shield them from kids that are jerks and it doesn't shield them from the difficulty of having say a learning disability or a physical disability.

I agree with all of this, but - and I know this is cynical of me - I question the women they're with who'd be willing to get pregnant knowing this. (Not slut shaming, I swear, this is about the age deal...) Unless (and I hope this is not the case, but again, cynicism) they feel the $$$ once Jagger/Wood, et. al. dies and those kids inherit is worth it.

I've spoken with a fertility specialist who told me these 45+ celebs like Janet Jackson don't really have their children naturally.  They're either implanted via in vitro with another woman's donor eggs  or they have a surrogate.  It's more about publicity for them and photo ops, not necessarily the desire for motherhood.

Otherwise, I agree with your sentiment completely.

Mick Jagger is a notorious cheap skate (he made sure his marriage to Jerry Hall wasn't legal to avoid paying her alimony when they "divorced", for God's sake!). I wouldn't be surprised if his will proves to be a rude awakening for all who know him once he passes away.

A lot of old blues stuff has similar rhythms/bass lines. Look at how many classic blues songs have the same rhythm and bass line as the pop atrocity I Want Candy" 

Also I've always considered We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel to be a direct rip off of It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) by REM.

Dwight Yoakam has a new album coming out next month! YAY!

It will be a bluegrass album called Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars (yes, like the Beverly Hillbillies theme song). My only complaint is that he's planning on just remaking some of his old songs into newer bluegrass versions. I really wish he would do new material here; I feel like he relies on covers/remaking his own songs a bit too much sometimes.

That's not entirely true, some women still get pregnant the 'old fashioned' way at 45. Audra McDonald had to drop out of a Broadway show because of a surprise pregnancy a few months ago, she's 46. And closer to home in the real world, a friend of mine just had a baby at 44.
