Yes, I know. But since you started your post with: "For the people who disagree with the above and think Ozzy is mean or whatever", it certainly sounded like you were correcting us based solely on an imaginary theory. I apologize if I misinterpreted your post or offended you.

I wasn't into seeing him play a fourth time and have no problem with him going.  I feel like he hasn't been that fun to watch since Cook Islands, really.  Which I'm sure is all editing.  But since then he's always seemed too cocky.  And I don't have a lot of respect for his trying to play 'old school' Survivor because he should know that you can't typically get to the end on the provider platform anymore.

I think they should just let Ozzy "audit" Survivor every season. Just let him hang out and fish and swim and do the challenges alongside everyone else for the whole season without being in the running to either get voted out or win.

Kidding, of course. But it does seem like he cares more about the experience than winning, and it seems to me like when he gets voted out he is more disappointed that the adventure is ending rather than being disappointed that he didn't win. And I enjoy watching someone who truly seems to love the experience as much as he does.

IMHO the best fit for Ozzy would be to run a "Surviving Survivor School" - like a training camp for prospective (or hopeful prospective) Survivor contestants on how to fish, food-gathering tips, physical competition strategies, etc.

Not social game theory, though.  Bring in somebody else for that.

Heck, I'm surprised Burnett and/or CBS haven't already tried to monetize that aspect of Survivor - considering how much they try to squeeze a nickel out of every other facet of the game.

Should have seen it coming, frankly. As soon as he talked about being a provider, feeding the tribe, I should have immediately guessed his end was near.

Unfortunately, it seems that Ozzy *still* overvalues the role of being a provider on this show. People are not going to keep a challenge beast at this stage of the game just because they collect fish, etc. It seems to come off a bit arrogant for him to suggest otherwise.

In all fairness, if they ever did a crossover with Naked and Afraid, Ozzy would be the immediate favourite to outlast everybody, and more power to him for that.

Well, he seems to agree at least that he sucks at the social part of the game:

Us Weekly: You’re one of the best contestants to play this game, especially physically. What is your weakness?

Ozzy Lusth: I think I’m really crappy at manipulation. I don’t think that I’ve ever been good at the social manipulation that some people really thrive at. I’m not good at lying to people’s faces. Usually, you’ve got to be good at that to make it through those crucial votes. I just have never had that.

He also says he would play again, that Aubry is the most dangerous person in the game because of her ability to fly under the radar, and that Debbie wasted the extra vote.  He said he was a little hurt because he thought they were close, and that she's playing recklessly and put her trust in the wrong people.

This made me chuckle. He doesn't actually say that he's bad at the social aspect of the game, he specifically says he's not good at the social manipulation and lying to people's faces, which sounds very much like a humblebrag to me. Heh.

They should let him be the prize in a reward challenge each season. Winning tribe gets Ozzy for three days to fish and gather fruit, plus he gets to play for them in the next immunity challenge.

Back in the day, on the site that preceeded this one, as I remember it, there was one raucous night when this was, er, discussed and some images shared. Memorable images. No pixels. But plenty that pixels might have covered.

Am I the only person who likes the braids? For some reason I think Ozzy Longstocking looks hot.

I didn't know about dating LL either, though I'd heard about the porn. I think Ozzy in a swimsuit is as much Ozzy as I want to see. Apparently I like a little mystery in a person.

HEY HEY HEY GUYS. I don't know if Ozzy and LL actually dated.  I thought they were just friends at one point.

Notice that I can't deny the porn whatsoever.  (Cough) not that I know anything about that (cough) or watched it or whatever (voice trails off)

Dammit!

The gossip sites really indicate everyone is right, that they did date.  Wow.

Aw, hell Oscar. Why you do this? Also is that a cigarette behind his ear? Maybe it's a joint.

I Googled "Ozzy Lusth porn" after reading about it here, but then I couldn't bring myself to click on any of the links.

The title refers to him as an ex, but the article said he was a rumored boyfriend.  Friends with benefits maybe?  This is from 2014, btw.

Oh I so agree!! After all they had a prior player on Exile Island this season so why not. I'm sure that he'd be game.

Ozzy's "Sad" eyes, courtesy of Ponderosa (again this is just my perception)

ozzy.jpg

I think Ozzy looks sad almost all the time tbh. It's why I'm always bewildered by people's perception that he looks like he's having a blast during challenges or while in the water. He almost never looks like he's having fun at all to me.

I think Ozzy was at his best and happiest his first two seasons.  Even though Cook Islands had some generous rewards, it was still as much about survival as it was the social game. Idols were actually at exile, only one was ever in play at a time, so there wasn't that element of surprise.  He seemed more in his element that season, and way more fierce, especially when it was the Aitu 4 against Raro.  I don't know much about his backstory, other than the situation with his dad, so I don't know if he feels like he's missing something in life or not.  Maybe he's just got sad eye syndrome.  I will say that the guys with the best hair on here seem to also have the best eyes and smiles-Ozzy, Joe, Jay, Malcolm.

Ozzy, like many returning players, is probably never going to win this show.  I think he knows that, and even touched on it in his Ponderosa vid (well, he blamed Boston Rob winning on his 4th attempt and saying no one would ever let someone coming back that many times win again).  However, he's still gotta be some sort of threat if they want him out.  So maybe that's why he enjoys the elements and survival aspect so much.  He knows he isn't winning, so he'll be along for the ride as long as possible.

I think that's where his desire to play old school Survivor really hurt him. He spent a lot of time out fishing on his own when he should have spent that time cultivating relationships.  Being a provider is something people appreciate for sure but they'll still vote your ass out if you're not in their alliance.

I agree with whoever it was who said upthread that they should bring Ozzy back every season just to compete in challenges.  (Kind of like how Bill Murray said every Olympic event should include one average person competing for reference.) Every time he beats the other tribes, he gets $5000. He definitely can be a dick sometimes but, for some reason, I still like him and he really is a thing of beauty to watch in the water.

These seasons can be tricky with Survivor relationships.  Everyone knows each other, or at least of each other.  I see Ozzy pop up at Survivor viewing parties in LA, but I wonder how connected he is with the Survivor community overall (especially recent players) and how much pre gaming he did.  That seemed to hurt Hali, as well as hurting Zeke and Michaela's.  Of course, pre game alliances can fall apart and you can still find alliances out there, so I know what you're saying.

Talking about Ozzy coming back as a reward makes me think of the days when locals would be the reward and teach the castaways how to live off the land better.  It also made me think of doing an old school vs new school season, except new school would be stuck having to play the old school survival way (so one candy bar for the 8 of you!).  Old school I guess could get better at hunting idols?

Seems to me that this season has provided them (well perhaps because of Ozzy) with a bunch to eat. The show used to be more calculating on wearing them down.

I saw Ozzy on the CBS Beyond the Buff. He looked awesome with his short haircut. He looked liked he did when he first did Survivor: Cook Islands. That was almost 12 years ago. I think island living suits him well.

Compare his weight loss with Hali's.
He was out there, doing things that burned calories.  Maybe while everyone else was conserving theirs, but he was active, by his own choosing.

Well, I think he, as well as several of the other guys, had intentionally put on extra pounds to have them to lose, whereas Hali didn't (going by the full-cast pre-game photo on the CBS website).  Not arguing that he wasn't active, but that there was an additional factor.

And different people have different metabolisms at different points in their lives. Heck, at one point I was put on a medication to prevent migraines. I swear I gained weight just looking at lettuce no matter how much I exercised. When I stopped that medication, the extra weight dropped off. So straight weight comparisons between two people or even between the same person at different points in their life aren't necessarily good indicators of activity levels.

Ozzy also weighs more to begin with.

Sometimes I put Survivor on in the background while I'm doing chores or whatever at home so I've seen Ozzy's boot several times and I have to say, "Good luck eating" just gets funnier every time I see it. He says it, then looks around at everyone and pauses. I don't know if he was expecting them to say something ("Nooooooo! We've made a  huge mistake!") or if he just ran out of things to say. But there's just silence so he finally just shakes his head and leaves. I don't know why but I find it way more amusing than I probably should.

My favorite Ozzy vote off moment was the death glare he gave to everyone in Micronesia-complete with his right hand man Erik giving him a military salute as he walked off into the night.  Carrying his sandals and without his belongings.  That look when Jeff snuffed his torch, and he glanced back, it was sort of a "okay, who did this?  I'll find out!  Fear me!" type of glare.

I will say, Ozzy looked really sad this time around.  Usually his boots are met more with arrogance or rage, but I felt really sorry for him.  He said he had a feeling as soon as Debbie said she wanted to use her extra vote, and he thought they were close, so that could have been why.

Can't say as I've ever spent a lot of time checking out Ozzy's eyes....  ;)

I've always had the impression, though, that in the day-to-day survival aspects of the game Ozzy found a life "fit" he had never before experienced - he was good at it, people liked him for it, and everything just made sense.  This, I think, is just as important to Ozzy than the money - if not more so.

Unfortunately for Ozzy, though, this "perfect fit" lifestyle only exists for a month or two a year, within the artificial confines of a reality show.

This makes sense.  I admired his skills and definitely a good looking man.  He does not have a lightness of being and appears to be humorless.  I don't remember any moments of him laughing or having that humor mind meld with another.  Someone will probably come along and correct me.  My memory is no longer sharp as my son's constantly remind me, forgetting I have a will.

Ozzy is Survivor's Jon Snow.  Hell, he even looks like Kit Harrington (a bit).  You know, a little too noble and heroic, dreamy if a bit dull. Emo face that maybe has not so much behind it.  Yet, in form and moving how express and admirable.  In action how like an angel, etc.

I know that Hulu has past seasons, though I think someone said they were missing a few.  I have All Access, which does include all the seasons.

I forgot just how perfect of a blindside this was.  And I'm saying that as an Ozzy fan.  Jason, who dropped out of the IC because everyone lied and said they wouldn't vote for him, looking first happy that Ozzy didn't play his idol, then worried, then relieved.  Ozzy going from a look of "all according to the plan" to "WTF?!"  The facial expressions between James, Cirie, Amanda, and Parvati.  And of course, Eliza.  This was also back in the day when a blindside meant a blindside, and wasn't either an obvious vote, or a vote made obvious by TPTB.

Sadly, we don't get Hulu in Canada. Maybe I should poke around on You Tube more often.

God that tribal.  Doesn't matter how many times I've seen it, it's still as big a thrill as ever.  It's a mysterious thing, great art.  The best part for me is Amanda's very subtle expression change at the second Ozzy vote.  But God I love it all.

The only times I can remember Ozzy seeming "light hearted" (as opposed to earnestly enjoying the island life) were when he and Flicka and Cao Boi (I think tha was the team) went exploring in the other tribe's camp, much to their disgruntlement, and when he made the fucking stick.

I feel like Micronesia was the end of a great Survivor era.  Since then, it's been very hit or miss for me.  Too many themes, too many returning players (in some capacity), twists, advantages, cushy rewards, and idols.  Look at this season.  One idol in play.  One.  No one could save Ozzy but himself at that fateful TC, but the silly boy thought he was going back to camp so he didn't bring his idol (or belongings) with him.

Or one piece of pizza.  I remember during the first season, they got a can of dog food as a clue, and they fried it up and ate it.  The whole old school vs new school concept was thrown around during S31, because of the obvious disconnect with some of the players from early seasons, where it was all about camp life and survival, and the new schoolers, that were all about idols, strategy, evolving the game, and use to great rewards.  If they did another returning player season, which we know they will, I'd love it to be all castaways from the pre-HvsV era.  I know CBS would never go for it, though, since they seem to like having more recent players on, with some exceptions.  I'm actually find if they went back to having 16 castaways again.

That whole episode was amazing starting with that epic immunity challenge where you had Alexis dropping out before Jeff could even offer the plate of cookies and therefore she couldn't have any. You had Amanda running off to pee. You had Parvati and Jason standing there holding their arm over their head for just about 7 hours. I have always wondered how much longer those two could have gone had Jason not dropped out. Then of course the epic blindsid with Eliza's reaction and Ozzy saying screw you to the people that voted him out. Love that whole season.

So like as much as Debbie was insufferable advocating for Brad I thought Ozzy was fine.  He has his idea of why to vote for people, why people should win Survivor, and he articulated it without shitting on the others or being delusional.  I thought he was too hard on himself when he said he's tried to do what Brad did and failed four times, because he did it in Cooks -- and could very easily have won it if this or that feather had blown the other way on the scale.  Anyway it was kind of nice to see him participating in the final tribal since he seemed so bored and over it most of his time in the jury box.

Having always presented himself as marching to a different drum, I was shocked to see he fell prey to the current hair style that doesn't look good on anyone!  That cut will be mocked in a decade as much as women's puffy bangs from the 80s are.
