I really think the euphemism of "animal harvesting" is ridiculous -- its called HUNTING and it is perfectly correct for the balance of nature for humans to hunt for food.  Animals DO NOT grow out of the ground like carrots or kale.  There is nothing wrong with PROPER hunting procedures (which is why def. terminated these folks' lease) or we would be up to our eyeballs with one species or another.  And the food supply for said animals would be scarce and the animals would die anyway and do no one any good.  And, no, I am not a country girl -- I grew up in the urban jungles of Chicago.

Boy, she was so self-righteous about that. The line for merit badges is the other way, lady.

Yep, perfectly fine for HER not to show up on the first day she was to care for someone else's family. After all, there were other member's of her client's family who could look after him. Much more important for her to be with her sister with HER mom. It wasn't like she didn't know for two days mom needed to go back on Monday - she just didn't bother to call her new clients and give them a heads up. Oh, and I gather that defendant modified her negative reviews and removed the word "unprofessional" from the comment. Sooo, she comes on national tv to complain about the bad review and has JJ tell the nation that in her (Judge Judy's) opinion, she was unprofessional!  but Judge Judy, Judge Judy.... lol

Another great example of when one party practically enters carrying a shovel to dig their own grave ....  Let's all stand quietly and let her talk, and she'll do the work for us!   Yep. I was willing to give her half a shot until she mentioned she went with the sister to her mom's appointment.  Nope.  Def took the word "unprofessional" off her review, but it was only spoken a zillion times in front of 10 million people.  Heh.

Sydney and Sean, ignorant hillbilly lovebirds and Sydney decides to pop out a baby with some boyfriend she's had for a short time. Sean gets a wonderful job offer in another state (I think it was probably an increase from 7$ to maybe 10$/hr considering he's a mouth-breathing idiot who can't speak basic English or understand simple questions) so of course Sydney wants to go with him - "Whither thou goest" and all that romantic crap. Sydney pays for the move but well, things get rocky, Sean gives her the boot and Sydney has to high-tail it back home. The thing is that Sydney, while uneducated, is not stupid as is Sean. She didn't seem dumb at all. Instead of having a baby with some guy, not even being able to drive and making herself dependant on that buck-toothed moron, she really should learn something and better herself. Sad, really.

Neva is an evil old bat who takes out life insurance policies on all her grandkids. Does anyone do that? Her appearance here today was disgraceful. She signed the policy to her grandson's girlfriend and then it's none of her damned business what the girl does with it. I'm pretty sure a girlfriend has no obligation to pay a dime for the funeral at all, but she did.  Grandma from Hell is suing because the headstone is not right. Pictures show it is right, including the deceased's multitude of names. What more does she want? Oh, well, Neva is still suing because there aren't enough words on the headstone now. You want more words? Put them there yourself.

We did.  The annual premium for $10,000 was $39, and we knew that our kids didn't/wouldn't get insurance that would help out financially in case of the world's most horrendous possibility.  It was to cover burial and/or medical costs.  Thank God, we never had to use any of the three of them, and all the policies have now been cancelled as the grandkids have "aged out" of them.  Honestly, if you know that you're going to end up paying the expenses out of pocket, $39 a year is a pretty cheap investment in peace of mind.

I know my parents had insurance on us when we were kids and I believe it ended when we turned 18 or 21, but I never thought grandparents would have to do that. Interesting.

I thought she was dismissing the headstone because it came from the father, I'm thinking there were some issues between that poor boy's parents and grandma was probably at the heart of it. Her insistence that the girlfriend should place ANOTHER headstone on the grave makes me think grandma was a controlling witch who likely made unreasonable demands all the time, she certainly was not able to think rationally about a headstone, imagine what she was like about day-to-day decisions.

GAH!!  She kicked him out, he couldn't take all of it with him (pool table, fridge) so she SOLD the pool table and fridge.  SHE wants rent!  And storage fee!  JJ is dead to me now.

The defendant didn't get rent, or storage fees. The only thing she "got" was that Judge Judy allowed her to offset the storage fees she paid by the amount she collected for selling the stuff. Judge Judy ordered that the plaintiff had five days to pick up the remaining items.

The plaintiff had many, many months to pick up the large items. He felt completely entitled to do it at his sweet leisure, and was indignant to discover that defendant wasn't forced to store his stuff for as long as he cared.

After reading Giant Misfit's summation of this character I had to stay up late and watch. She was not exaggerating. I was actually in awe of how dumb he was, and wondering how def could possibly be this desperate, until I heard HER speak. I just don't know how they survive day to day with their utter and complete lack of any kind of sense. She somehow managed to buy a house, then lost it nearly immediately, probably because the two of them were spending money like children in a toy store. "Oh, I have to pay that mortgage every month? Gee, who knew?"

IIRC she moved to El Paso - but not sure where the original house is/was.... and I'll refrain from any jokes about those folks south of the mighty Red River - we have enough looney tunes up here in Oklahoma (for those not in the know, the border between Texas and Oklahoma is the Red River.) Anyway, I gather she put the junk from the house - both hers and his - in storage and the monthly storage fees is $162. She sold some of his junk to pay the storage fee, and wanted him to repay her the whole amount even though her junk was also being stored... I had several questions during the case - including, what financial institution gave this unemployed woman a home loan - or maybe she inherited the house and couldn't pay to keep it?

I'm thinking someone must have died and left her the house. Not even the shadiest, 110% interest storefront lender would give her a dime.  The two of them played with big TVs, game boxes, pool tables and other toys while the house was being foreclosed on. Not two firing brain cells between them.

If they truly hunted for food to eat,  I have no issues. But the owner of the property said they were killing for the sake of killing and just leaving the dead animals to decompose.

I agree with that.  I must point out, though, there is a HUGE problem with feral hogs in that part of the country.  So much so, in fact, that you do not need a license to hunt them, and there is no limit.  They DON'T allow you to just let the animals rot, though.  You must take them or dispose of them properly.

I don't know anything about hunting, so I have a question. Why does the landlord need to know what kind and how many of each animal they killed? Does he have to report it to the state or something?

As I understood the case, the property owner is in Texas and had been leasing parcels for hunting for years. According to https://agrilife.org/texasaglaw/2017/09/05/landowners-leasing-property-hunting-required-obtain-license-state/ both the land owner and the hunter have to be licensed - and the license has to be produced if a game warden wants to see it. And yes, the State keeps track of how many animals are killed, and base the number of licenses and length of the hunting season on how many of each species are in the area. IIRC, on this land they were permitted to hunt turkey and deer in season, and feral hogs pretty much all the time. As @Brattinella said, hogs are a big problem in some areas - not only do you not need a license to hunt them, in some areas land owners actually pay hunters to lower the population. Even with feral hogs, though, I imagine the State wants to monitor the numbers.

Oh, and while I have no problem with ethical hunters, I am not a hunter myself.... but I have watched episodes of the game warden cop shows like North Woods Law in New England and Lone Star Law in Texas.

Yes, because hiding at a distance and gunning down defenseless animals just for the pure enjoyment of it or because it makes someone feel like a big, brave man is so admirable. If their victims could shoot back it would be a very different story and the mighty hunters would be crying for their mamas.

Not sure how many men are hunting to stave off hunger these days. All the guys I knew at work who did it certainly didn't need to do it to fill the larder. They did it for the plain old fun of it.

I don't know if the majority do it to literally save their lives, but I imagine it is cheaper and better quality than buying from a grocery store.

Were all the cases reruns yesterday? I scanned through a bunch of shows recorded yesterday tonight after dinner (dinner = wine) and could scarcely raise an eyebrow of interest in any of them. The only one that made some impression was the case of the Social Security Thief who, if his eyes were any closer together, would have qualified as the world's oldest living cyclops.

As I said, I'm not a hunter.... but you have a valid point about the quality of what we find in the modern grocery store. Modern agribusiness may produce safe food for the supermarkets that is inspected and approved by the USDA and Food Safety and Inspection Service (a branch of the USDA) - but that doesn't mean what we buy in the supermarket is the healthiest or best tasting. Livestock, be it beef, pork, poultry or fish, raised in modern farm factories have miserable lives. Cattle end their life crammed into feedlots for the last 6 months of their life eating grains and various premixed feed additives and vitamins designed to cause 4-500 lbs of weight gain before slaughter... oh, and antibiotics because of the overcrowded, unhealthy, conditions. Along with the overcrowded conditions, cattle did not evolve eating grain, so bloating, diarrhea, digestive problems and discomfort just adds to to their misery. Not to mention the occasional steroid use - thankfully banned here in the US... but when the NFL played a game in Mexico City a couple years ago players were warned against eating locally grown meat because consumption could result in positive tests for steroids which are banned for player use. I'm using cattle as my example, but it's true for pretty much all livestock on industrial farms - including egg and diary farms. The aim of big industrial farming is to make money, and more than once they have done this by using feed additives without testing. The additive that will add a couple more pounds, or produce a little more milk or eggs, is sometimes used until it is proven unhealthy and the regulatory agencies get it banned.

Like I said, not a hunter - also not a farmer, but I do plant the occasional garden. What I buy in the produce section bares only a faint resemblance to what I grow (or the citrus and avocados I remember growing up in Southern California). Heck, even what I buy at the weekly Farmers Market isn't as good as what is fresh from the garden - though WAY BETTER than the supermarket.

We had dachshunds when I was young. They are digging fiends. In fact, they were bred to be diggers, chasing badgers.  It would not surprise me in the least if the dachshunds had dug under the fence

Badthingsarebad is absolutely right. Dachshunds were originally bred to dig in holes to get badgers out of the ground (so I was told). Ever seen a badger? Those are some mean looking critters. My mom had a doxie when I was young and she was the meanest little dog ever and yes, she dug like a fiend as well. Used to bite me for SPITE. I was about 4-5 and that little dog would chase me and bite the holy fire outta me. So I do not doubt that doxie dug a hole and had some other dog holding his beer while he went to rough up the big dogs.

Weather porn!!! I live in South Florida now but when I moved to the Gulf Coast about 28 years ago, I was hooked to the Weather Channel. I used to track those thunderstorms constantly and on occasion, we would get tornadoes (I used to have Wizard of Oz nightmares when I was a kid). Once I took my kids to WalMart and it was 96 degrees outside - I come out about 30 min later and the temperature had dropped to 66 degrees and I could see the edge of a tornado. Hightailed it outta there. SandyToes - I always wonder if they are just playing the same videos from years ago before/during the storm season.

OH MY GOD, Judy! You have a personal problem with people who use mascara on the bottom lashes??? That is her sum reasoning to this lady.  I am hating JJ so much now.

I am so late to responding as I have been catching up on episodes on my dvr.

JJ made it pretty clear why she took issue with the plaintiff wearing mascara. JJ didn't have an issue with the use of mascara. She had an issue with someone who claimed to have had detrimental harm done to her eye while still feeling the lingering effects of this supposed injury. She was making an outrageous claim and then presented photos of her supposed injured eye while wearing mascara. If someone has incurred the injuries that she was claiming, the last thing they would be putting on or near their eye is any sort of eye make-up. She claimed to have felt some kind of scratchy feeling on her eyeball when she blinked. Why then put any sort of make-up on your eye that can easily irritate the supposed injury? The last thing I would put on my eyes if they were injured in any way is eye make-up. That woman was piling on the mascara on her eyelashes. I can only imagine how clumpy it must have been. To then have some debris of that mascara to end up in her injured eye wouldn't help matters, assuming what she was claiming was true.

I certainly didn't believe her story. Neither did JJ.

I was very upset at the case regarding the 8 year old boy who was taken out of state by his mother against the court order. I really hope the father has filed a case against his ex. I told my husband how I wanted to find that man, send him some money and a letter showing him my support in his case. I was brought to tears hearing the father as he began to shed some tears over not being able to see his son. I hate foul people like that ex of his who think they can ignore the law. Chasing some guy to another state and then have him play daddy to a child who already has a father, seriously makes me ill.

Just getting caught on my JJ. Why does Judge Judy hate landlords so much? I am referring to the case where the grandmother gained permanent custody from her addicted daughter in Minnesota. Apparently, they left the place a mess, left holes in the drywall and doors, had broken windows and the children wrote all over the walls with crayons. JJ believes that the $1,200 security deposit should cover all this. No way. Most landlords do not paint every 3 years. The quality of paint has improved greatly over the years so there is no need and the cost of paint itself has gone up so much. It is not easy to paint over writings on a wall. The last window that I replaced cost $300. It is expensive to get drywall repaired and doors with holes usually need to be replaced. I don't like how JJ doesn't consider a landlords time if he makes the repairs on his own. Most landlords have other jobs because their cash is tied up in their rental. I am with JJ on the carpeting. That should be replaced every 5 years or so in a rental.

And, I have done foster care. Yes, the state does pay you but it is about $10 a day. I pay $15 a day for my dog to go to daycare while I work and that is a bargain. Doggie daycare near where I work averages $26 per day. JJ acts like people are getting rich off of the State. As a working foster parent, I had to pay daycare for my foster child. No reimbursement there. Why did I do it? Because I care and wish that someone would have done it for me and I had the resources to do it. These foster kids don't come with any belongings so you have to buy a bunch of stuff for them when they are placed and take time off work immediately to get them seen by a medical provider and get them enrolled in school. It is perfectly fine with me if Minnesota grandmother gets a subsidy to take care of her grandchildren. How was she going to pay for their care on her own? This wasn't a situation where the taxpayers, JJ, Byrd State is being scammed even in grandmother was enabling mom a bit by allowing her daughter to stay over a few nights here and there. I don't think that mom was living there full-time. She might have to parent her own children then and she wasn't going to do that.

The only issue that I had with grandmother taking care of the children is that she admitted somewhere in the tape that she was physically unable to watch the kids while they were drawing on the walls. Did the house have two stories? The issue of care is more important than kinship reimbursement.

JJ needs to live off of a state subsidy for 6 months and rehab a rental property. She is out of touch with the real world.

Completely. She was born into an upper-middle-class family and I am fairly certain she has never lived with or socialized with anyone "beneath" her stature in life. She absolutely has no clue how the majority of people live and the hardships they face because they don't have access to a $900 million salary, or whatever it is this year. She's under the belief that anyone receiving any sort of state assistance is taking food out her and Byrd's mouths. She needs to be on the receiving end of a lecture about that sometime.

This a thousand times. Mr. Toes does most of the repairs on our rent houses himself, so there aren't receipts for work done.  Fortunately, our local JP USUALLY takes that into account, and will award damages/funds.  (Not that we collect all the time, but at least he gets that the landlord's time is worth something.) That's one reason we only do 2-year leases. We have nice properties, and the wear and tear, even with good tenants, is too much to redo everything every 6 months. Plus long-termers are more likely to treat the property as their own.  We've had several stay over 10 years. Hate to see those go!!

As for the hunting discussion, here in Texas, my former junior high students would come in bragging about killing deer. Well, I should hope so!  The "hunters" bait the deer feeding stations all year long so that the feed is released at specific times every day. The deer learn to come on schedule, and the "hunters" wait till they show up at the feeder, then BAM.  Hunting?  Nope, not in my book. Infuriating!  My brother-in-law used to hunt with bow and arrow, sometimes with a hawk, and sometimes trophy hunted in Russia.  Where he tracked the animal, as opposed to luring it with bait.  Not my thing, but at least the animals had a fighting chance, and it was done legally, with population control the goal.

Show?  Show?  Sweeps are over.  Bummer.

This was my take on this as well, my best friend had a mishap with a hairbrush scratching her eye, (this was back in the early 80's when you wore the thickest, clumpiest mascara you could find).  She couldn't wear any makeup, let alone mascara, for over a week while she applied a greasy antibacterial topical cream to it to heal it.

Baiting is illegal where I live.  Thankfully.  Doesn't stop people from doing it (leaving out salt licks, or dumping food out during the off-season so that when the food starts getting scarce, the deer will come back.

I didn't get the case of Shoddy Contractor with the 'Tar Pit at Midnight' tattoo! Instead I got the case of the annoying, giggly, middle-aged, ugly clown-pants seller suing a distributor for not paying for goods delivered.  Both litigants were completely awful for very different reasons, but I couldn't believe that the Defendant had taken possession of something like 300 pair of clown pants! Does that lady own a string of Macy's?! Who's buying those ugly things??

Then again, people bought Snuggies, too, so what do I know?

ETA: Oh, I did get the shoddy lawn guy case! That tattoo is gross.

I love how JJ berated the Plaintiff by telling him that he and his family should "learn how to drive" because there were tire tracks all over his lawn. The Plainitff advised her they had just moved in a few weeks earlier and the tire tracks were there when he bought the house. Did JJ apologize? She did not. Because she is a judgmental bitch.

I loved Cindy Lou's showing off of the "pants" jiggling the sample she wore. It looks like a skirt full and long enough to please the Amish.
