There are many people from a Christian background & culture who do celebrate the story of Santa.  Christians come in many flavors. Many are liberal & ordain women.  The fundies/So. Baptists don't own the term "Christian".

Exactly. It's very few and far between, from all walks of Christianity, who don't do Santa. 95% of the Baptists I know don't have an issue with Santa.

My great grandmother makes every single relative homemade cookies and sends them from Nonna Claus so she doesn't steal his shine. Seriously. That doesn't mean we go ranting to other people about Santa one way or the other. If we tell, we don't get out cookies!

Anyway.....moving on. Sometimes an apron is just an apron, and not a political statement or show of spiritual superiority.

Cathy looks cute.

Agreed, but some of them think they are the keepers of the key and own the label, and the rest of these flavors are "apostates".   One of the things that make this country what it is, is the freedom to believe what you want (or not); the problem is all too often those who use their beliefs to hurt or exclude others.

Duggars don't seem to "get this" and will use anything and everything imagined and unimagined to vaunt their piety and moral superiority over others.

I couldn't read the small print on her apron. Silly me, I thought it was an affirming message about both Santa and Grandmas. My bad.

Well, according to the way it's presented graphically, I think it probably is..... But if you look at the fine print, you can either read it the way we regular people would read it -- or in a more DillDugg-friendly way!

Oh, I'm sure it's a Dill/Dugg thing. I bet Derick even gave her the apron. We can see by both of their social media accounts that they are very intentional people. Everything has a message, and there is hardly any unscripted fun to be had. I know Cathy loves Izzy, but good lord, at the rate she's going, she's going to be part of his indoctrination, not a haven of even the smallest haven of escape from the crazy/idiocy that characterize his parents.

Yep, everything is a thinly veiled message of Fundiespeak. Cathy will most definitely participate in his indoctrination, but hopefully will intervene on the side of good sense when she has a moral imperative to do so.

All by himself ? What a catch .

He probably thinks he'll get laid.

BTW, ladies and gentlemen, I believe we've seen our first FU Internetz of this year. Who's betting me $20 to the local food bank that this will be featured on the show? (Triple D, adorably inept, doing housework. Triple D riding herd on the Lost Girls while Izzy draws a map of the world on his bedroom wall with a Sharpie. Triple D bringing his deathly ill wife flowers and another fucking love letter on notebook paper, the text of which is posted on their website...)

While I'm working myself into a rage, you know they got paid for that post about Outback Steakhouse on Instagram, right?

I think it might have been one of those grocery stores that you can order your items on line.  The staff collects your order. You show up in your car curbside, give them your credit card, they go inside, process it & then load your groceries into your car.

ETA - what makes this method of shopping really Duggar friendly is that most supermarkets don't allow tipping for this service.

It's Wally World, AKA Wal-Mart. Amazon also has grocery delivery, but I'm not sure Amazon Fresh is available in Arkansas as of yet.

It's also one more handy avenue for the Gothard menfolk to monitor how much is being spent at the store and stop one's wife from any venturing forth from the house on her own. IMHO of course.

Plus they can control every penny spent when it is preordered.

If Jill reads his tweets, and I think she does, she totally screwed up when she posted the pic of Izzy with Cathy, who wore an apron that referenced SANTA. Who, according to Derick, doesn't exist.

I doubt Derrick is going to chastise Jill for posting a picture of his mom and his son being adorable just because Cathy is wearing an apron with Santa on it. I haven't met any adults who do think Santa exists and I know a few non-Christian families who don't do Santa/Easter Bunny/Tooth Fairy for their kids because they're not real.

Maybe that was Miss Cathy's Internet FU to Derick to dial it back a notch, as if to say, "Lighten up, where's the harm?"

Yeah I don't think this is a big conspiracy. Just some Grammy Bragging. Izzyvis too young to comprehend anything besides 'oh look toys under the tree' anyway.

Looks like we've beaten this horse to death by now...surely, there are other Dillard moments or Duggar moments far more snark worthy.

Well, if he made this post at 6:40 my time, it was 8:40 his time, ie. before church. Was this the Dullard bible meditation for the day? You're bringing a baby into this world, dude! And it's been 2000 years, and the world hasn't imploded yet (@Loves2Dance, you read my mind in this part of my post that I was going to go all vague about).

Here's the verse for Derick:

Quote

"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Mark 13:32

Yeah, I like to remind some of them about that by pointing out this verse. Christians have believed in end time prophecies since a few years after the crucifixion...every historical event or natural disaster has had plenty of people saying the apocalypse is now upon them. 2000 years later, they're still saying this, and one day, someone will be right, but it might still be several hundred years later.

I meant for the season after. I know there's a season in the can. But seriously, I wonder if Cathy's  health isn't declining.

The reasoning I've heard from Christian people who don't do Santa is that 1) they don't want to lie to their children, 2) they think when their kids figure out Santa is their parents, they'll break all trust and 3) (ok this one is religious) they want to focus the holiday on the birth of Christ and not commercialism and gifts.

Whole other story I guess for people who aren't from a Christian background or culture.

I think one of my Aunties had a similar sweat shirt. Catholic Christian, no Santa hater, but one of her grandkids or kids thought it was cute to give her a shirt that said she was better than Santa. She had nothing growing up, so to compare her now with the man who gives all the toys, she loved it. No big political statement, just love for their grandmother.

Yeah, my immediate family didn't believe in or "do" Santa either, but they weren't militant about grandparents or similar doing it around or for me.  In fact, I think I got a timely lecture for not ruining it for other kids who might believe.

So nice that Muffy was too busy to post timely birthday greetings to Mima Cathy. That heavy work schedule, and the overtime I guess.

Excellent ping!  Maybe your avatar should be She Snark, though I like your present one perfectly well.

LOL at "sermons or tweets." Tweets seem to have become far more significant than I ever thought they were.

hall and Oats was the first thing that came to my mind too here.

I hope you're right, but she seems to have gone off the deep end along with her oldest son. We don't know what she was like before the cancer, but she's full-on fundie crackpot now.

I don't know. I somehow think that the in-laws such as Cathy are still going to be more of the Bates-type influence. I loathe the parent Bates' and have zero respect for them because of what they've enabled and continue to lie about with Gothard and because of what their enabling has done to people outside their family. But despite all that, their personalities are obviously normal enough so that just by nature they don't really treat their kids in accordance with that or in the way the Duggars do, so the kids get some breathing room even though their parents have colluded with the very devil in their religious lives.

I think the same is likely to be true with Cathy -- and even Derick to some extent. They're going to push the indoctrination stuff consciously. But I think there are still parts of themselves that act pretty normally and allow other people, even kids, at least some normal freedoms. Their thoughts lead them down the Duggar path of repression. But I would bet that their day-to-day behavior isn't totally in line with that, so it's going to give the kids some breaks and some glimpses of what normalcy is like.

I may be Pollyannaing myself here, of course. But I kind of don't think so. People are complicated enough so that some swing both ways, and I think some Duggarling grandchildren like Izzy will get the benefits of that. Because of little details of the way the Dillard family behaves around them they'll at least unconsciously know that life has some open doors, despite what people are constantly saying around them.

I was reading over Derick's tweets.

Once gain, he appears unstable.  He tweets whatever odd thought comes into his head. Lacks awareness of how bizarre his tweets are without context. Derick is a weird guy and I can totally see how he got mixed up with the Duggars.

Maybe the show's been canceled, or the contract hasn't  been renewed.

They have a wedding, some boring boys to get married, that can be offset with pregnant girls (surely at least one of them will be pregnant each season) and then the lost girls can keep it going. I'm not even sure if the Duggs really have competition for the conservative market, Bates of course, but not sure what else is out there. I would even WATCH the show entire episodes, if someone would at least make an effort to produce something entertaining or informing, new producers please.

Derelict wasn't mixed up with the Duggars, he is a weasel fame whore who wormed his way into the show to get a wife and some attention. He's a classic loser who now seems to believe his own hype. He seems like the type to become a missionary for the saviour syndrome. I believe he liked to be the wealthy guy in town, with the bag of rice and the creator of hoops the locals went through to get candy from the great Derelict who also had the key to gawd. He is an idiot grifter that fell in with someone even dumber than himself. His wife asks him what her opinion is...what a horrible situation for Izzy.

THERE IS A NEW PROMO AND DERICK GOES TO THE DOCTOR!

Oh, and they show him throwing up after a jog.  Like all of it. On the side of the road.

Doctor is shown feeling his neck area.  Thyroid? Would explain the weight loss and the general unhealthy look.

So Jesus doesn't protect all those who follow the (correct) way? Or Jesus saves those who contract some illness despite following the correct way, because, Satan, and never mind what those doctors might have done to cure what ails you?

The newest end-of-the-world date I heard is tomorrow because Obama is going to give Israel away in Paris. Or something. I couldn't make this crap up if I tired. However, maybe Triple D is projecting global doom onto a more personal situation.
