Jessa, Ben and Their Brood: Making a (Diaper) Mountain out of a Mold House

Message added by Scarlett45

The Duggars post about politics on social media frequently, but these social media posts are not an invitation to discuss politics here in this forum. This rule extends to Duggar adjacent families, friends, associates etc. Such discussions are a violation of the Politics Policy.

I understand with recent current events there may be a desire to discuss certain social media postings of those in the Duggar realm as they relate to politics- this is not the place for those discussions. If you believe someone has violated forum rules, report them, do not respond or engage.

Jed may have taken his phone calls just because Josh is his brother.  I have not a clue how I would react if my brother did something that horrible but I don't think I would refuse to speak with him. I would make sure he was never alone with a child and strongly urge him to get consoling and I don't think I would go out if state to visit him in prison but I would take his calls.

I get your point, but I’m just not convinced that Jed! (and other family members) doesn’t buy into the conspiracy/persecution narratives. By not denouncing Josh and his behaviors, he leaves that open to interpretation.

I think the level to which they have all been gas-lit by JimBob can not be overestimated. I doubt a single Duggar, besides Jim Bob,  has any accurate sense of what REALLY went on with Josh.  I would include all the kids AND Michelle in that.

From your keyboard to God's ears. I wouldn't be surprised if that's why Austin looked so angry when he attended the trial. He was hearing something quite different from whatever JB had told him. I think that applies to the molestations and to the CSAM case. I've always sensed that Austin was not a huge fan of JB, although I'm sure they share the same religious beliefs and world views. JB's a slick-talking deal-making entrepreneur, and IMO Austin's a different personality type. So even if JB has gaslit his own kids about Josh, I think Austin would be less totally snowed and more likely to be open to hearing the truth and not just JB's version of events.

ETA: sorry, I didn't realize this was in the Seewald topic. I wonder if Bin's frequently sullen demeanor isn't all because of his marriage, but may also reflect some degree of disillusion with the Almighty JB Duggar.

Probably true, but I think all of the adults in the family, especially the ones with young kids of their own now, should have made an effort to find out what really happened. They have access to the same public records we do.

I think Ben and Boob are tight. His sullen demeanor certainly comes from living with domineering, overbearing Jessa. He seems to be a pushover.

Bless his heart, I just don't think Ben is that smart. I think he's likely one of the easiest to con.

I definitely think JB is the king of gaslighting, but I also think there was no reason for anyone to question anything when the first 2 scandals broke. They all knew that the molestations happened and the Ashley Madison scandal really wasn't about anyone but Josh and Anna.

When the third scandal hit most of the adults perked up and went about seeing what's up. I don't think any of the ones attending the trial were looking for info about the molestations, they were looking for the truth of Josh's charges.

I do wonder what the Seewalds truly think and how much their thoughts and/or public reactions center around their relationship with JB & M. I obviously don't believe they think CSA is okay, but Jessa appears to be a very selfish person so I could see her focusing on the inconvenience of the situation rather than the reality put it front of her.

Of all the adult daughters, Jessa is most dependent financially and otherwise on JB and M.  We've only heard the barest details of JB's argument with Derick and Jill over money; I'll bet Jessa heard and earful and it was very ugly.  There's no way she's going to risk JB's wrath at this point by publicly saying anything other than the vaguest statements about Josh.  JB probably approved their first statement after the trial; Gothard does view all sins as equal, so the abuse of children is the same as adult porn in JB's world- and Jessa's.

Also, Jessa's husband seems least likely to be able to support their family should they fall out of favor with JB.

Jessa is a pragmatist, she will do what she needs to do to keep her status in the family.

I was reading through some tweets of Derick's and a comment from Derick I had never seen before jumped out at me. The tweet implied that Jill and other Duggar kiddults were paid through a contract with TLC, but not the spouses. Something else I read (maybe a tweet response?) left me thinking JB & M took the lion's share of the TLC pay through their own contract.

Now that the TLC money is gone it has me wondering how the Seewalds are making ends meet. It seems all the brothers are out there scrambling and actually working, but Ben pastors to a church that likely has less congregants than there are Duggars. And Jessa has slowed down on her YouTube content. Could they have actually saved and invested their money? It just gets curiouser and curiouser.

Jessa said in her deposition that she made $30k last year. Was Ben even working then? He certainly wasn't contributing much.

If she was talking gross income, the self employment taxes probably reduced that by 40+%

That is in stark contrast to the Vuolos income. I hope Jessa is happy to be stuck with man child Ben.

I’m sure JB taught them how to avoid paying taxes, or pay very little.

Shit $30,000?! I wonder if Ben took home about the same amount? If he did $60,000 a year is enough for them to survive, but hardly enough to sink 10s of thousands of dollars into a house reno.

I've never paid attention to the Duggar LLCs and who has what, but I wonder how likely it is that she and Ben have something like that buried deep and have rental income coming in.

JM and Michelle made a show of living well below their means for years, to the point of stuffing 16 children into a tiny rental home and having strangers drop off donations at their door, even though they had plenty of money in the bank. It's possible Jessa has enough in savings, investments, and real estate to be just fine without TLC despite all publicly-knowable facts. It's super weird to me, as someone who's always had to work money, but the Duggars can be very good at keeping secrets when they make the effort.

ETA: Or not. $30K?! Damn.

It goes a long way when you don’t have to pay rent or a mortgage. No idea what their property taxes, utilities, vehicles and insurance, etc cost them.

$60,000 for sure, but $30,000 with four kids, not so much.

If they had rental income coming in, that should still have been included in the alleged $30,000.

We can't assume Ben made that much before he got his minister gig. And even now, he's probably not making more than $30-40k. It's a very small church.

In all my Llc and property searches, I have never found any property in the Seewald's name except the mold house.

I have found no llcs for Ben and Jessa in their name, or for them under Travis Story, like both car lots, or under Jimmy Burns like both of Austin's. I suppose they could have something under Registered Agent, but that has 1,000s to sift through. That's how Dwain Swanson has his set up.

As far as cars -I assume they got them free or very cheap from Jed.

Why the hell does Austin have 2 LLCs? So much for distancing himself from Boob. I’m sure they all do get their cars at a very discounted rate, but they still need to pay fees and insurance.

Duggars gonna Duggar...it wouldn't surprise me if they have something shady going on where technically Jessa only made $30K last year but there's actually a lot more. Hell, she might have arranged it to look that way to have "proof" that the In Touch story ruined her financially.

I had the same thought. But would she really like under oath?

Oh hell, she's her father's daughter. I wouldn't put it past her, but 30k is the number she floated.

Depending on how the income question was worded, she could technically not be lying. Not being truthful while not technically lying has always been Jessa's thing.

For sure. Jessa is the most consistent liar in that family after Boob and FF.

Do you mean given to use while he is pastor, or given to Ben outright? The first isn’t unusual when the church owns a house/parsonage; for churches that don’t, pastors sometimes get a housing allowance. I would be surprised if the church gave Ben the title to the house.

Yeah, it appears that Benessa still own the Mold House. No other property shows up in their name in Washington County. I think the church is in Springdale, so that's the same county.

eta Tried to search Benton County, but the recaptcha thingie isn't operating. Maybe someone else may have better luck?
