I feel like aging affects women more than men in the business, too.

That's what I was going to say. That said, TV tends to be the place for women of a certain age to get roles that are more fulfilling or rewarding.

For those speccing that Billy Miller is on his way out bc he's auditioning and obvs wants to do other things, take a quick listen (it's toward the end of the clip) to JT's answer on if JT is going to be on GH for years to come. Let's just say the answer wasn't "YES!"

The talk with Miller goes back years where he looked bored as hell on Y&R, treating it as a cash machine and going on extended breaks for pilot season.

Jason Thomson has been criticized for not caring about GH and phoning it in since long before Milller was ever cast, it's just that he's stuck to one show, and hasn't gone on as many breaks.

I don't think there's anything inappropriate to it, really. I do find it weird that the man has a Vimeo account full of nothing but Nicolas Bechtel vids from the set, but I mean, they (and other PTB) were just as enamored of Kristen Alderson years ago at OLTL. I think Bechtel is just the new model adopted kid pet. It's annoying, but it's not anything untoward.

I agree.  I think Frank's taking on an avuncular role in the kid's life, and that could actually be endearing.

But the fact that, out of the entire cast, Frank focuses so much on him is annoying in light of the fact that this is a show supposedly geared for adults.

In Ron's case, it may be more than a bit pathetic that the one cast member he is the closest to be being bff's with, especially now that Alderson is gone, is a 9-year-old boy.  Especially considering that the interaction just well might be more with the boy's mother, who seems to be well intent on furthering her son's career.  Ron does try to interact with other cast members occasionally, and they -- at most -- humor him.  Once GH ends, I wouldn't be surprised if he can't get any of them to even acknowledge his presence.

Not going to lie, I'd actually be okay with Tomlin at GH.

Going back to Tomlin, I laugh in no small part because of Ron's vitriol toward him on twitter when Tomlin won some award over him.

Tomlin also leans toward campiness and showcasing cute young men in towels for no good reason (do you need a reason?), but I will say that I found his Days of last fall more entertaining than GH. Aidan (Aiden?) and Hope had an actual romance, that built up over time and while you could see it was heading from hate-at-first-sight to attraction, it was an enjoyable ride.  And he let Kate hook up with Rafe without turning it, or them, into jokes.

Plus, given that Days' budget is as low, if now lower, than GH's, and given that Gary could write with only 30 characters showcased instead of 70, in that regard, he'd be a huge step up.

So, yeah, I'd be up for it!

Okay, I actually watched Miller's final scenes at Y&R. Not my choice. At infusion centers, they love CBS. So I watched the entire exit storyline. He didn't phone it in. I totally get people may not like Jason/Jake or the writing, but your comment sounds as if you did not watch it. If you didn't watch it, then why come here and stir negative feelings? Why not actually give the story a chance?

I imagine GH is, as you say, just a paycheck and he's not there for creative fulfillment.

Isn't that why everyone's there? I can't see any actor getting creative fulfillment—the stories are crap, and the budget is next to nothing. The cast seems to get along for the most part, so at least there's that, but a steady paycheck seems like the only thing keeping people around. Not that I blame them. Life isn't free.

I think creative fulfillment depends on the job. I do mine mostly for the paycheck, since I'm neither a PowerBall winner nor an heiress, but I also get some creative fulfillment from my job. I'm a copy editor, and I find it very satisfying to whip those danglers into shape. Of course there's bs and frustration, but no job is perfect.

Does Frank has some sort of connection to "Extra"? That's now two his pets that have been hired as correspondents for the show. But at least Ryan Paisley can enunciate. Nicholas Bechtel can barely spit out his lines, and even when he does manage I can barely understand what word(s) he is saying.

I guess I could understand if the kid was immensely talented like Kimberly, Amber, or Jonathan, but IMHO Nicholas Bechtel is a terrible actor. If Frank should be pimping any of the kid actors it should be either Brooklyn Silzer or Hannah Nordberg. They are both talented and, especially NH, done some legitimately good work with some very questionable writing.

I think the point Grrpants09 is trying to make is that pretty much from the moment Billy Miller turned up as Jake, there has either been spec about when he's going to leave and go somewhere else or complaints that he "just isn't Jason". And sometimes both. Granted, whether or not someone can pull off a particular role is subjective, and for my own part I can't imagine why anyone would clamor for the return of Burton's Borgified version of the character, so I guess that's really neither here nor there. Is he getting paid for this? Sure, and I would hope so since the state of GH these days is such* that I doubt it looks awesome on a resume, so he might as well be getting something out of it. But I think Miller is doing his best with what he's been given, and unlike Geary, he isn't "treating" us to a different accent with every other line.

*I accidentally typed 'suck' instead of 'such'. I should have left it alone. ;-)

I mean we pretty much already knew this, but Genie confirmed at her fan event this weekend that Tony didn't want Luke and Laura

http://members4.boardhost.com/LukeSpencer/msg/1427770435.html

I don't understand why Laura can't just be on the show and not interact with Luke

Of course he doesn't. (going into petty, snarky, speculation mode)--It's because of Luke and Laura, that Anthony got to remain on GH, and because of the chemistry that he and Genie generated. The story of Luke and Laura made him. So he can just STFU.  Because unlike Anthony, Genie actually did get some work outside of this fakakta show. I'm not saying Genie is some great thespian, but in addition to two other soaps, she was a recurring character on Murder, She Wrote (as Jessica's niece); was on that horrid yet soapy, short-lived soap, Bare Essence; on Perry Mason: Case of the Killer Kiss, where Stuart Damon, Sean Kanan, and a host of other soap stars appeared...and more recently, in the Notebook movies.

Anthony's post GH roles were so forgettable I can't remember them, except for one on Murder, She Wrote, and had only 2 or 3 scenes, and other shows.

I'd rather see Laura on the show and Luke not on it at all.

There are other stories for Laura other than Luke or even romance in general. How expensive could doing a business story with Deception really be? Just shoot Michael's office from another angle.

I don't know, but I think that's gonna be my last post on it, because I have to stop dwelling on it. I'm starting to feel some not nice sentiments about Tony Geary that I really shouldn't feel so strongly about.

Tony Geary (allegedly) said he didn't want to do Luke and Laura again, which isn't the same thing as saying he didn't want Genie Francis back on the show. Luke and Laura could have interacted as parents/friends without being in a relationship. But really, it doesn't matter what he wants because he's not in charge and I highly doubt he has any control over whether or not GF comes back. If Ron wanted GF back and she wanted to return and if they could agree on the terms of her contract she would be back.

I don't think those two need a joint story, but I don't think the show can pretend they aren't Luke and Laura. Meaning they can't ignore the fact that those two are on the show at the same time. We got a lot of that with VM's return, when Brenda spent a month in Italy interacting with BradPittLite and Adrienne Barbeau, with no one from PC in sight. That was a gigantic waste of time. But there's no point having GF back if it's just for a rehash of Laura vs. Scott vs. Luke. I'm with TG not wanting to do that again. I do think Luke and Laura as a romantic couple are done. But if/when we get Luke's swan song, if Laura isn't there, it won't mean much to me.

unlike Geary, he isn't "treating" us to a different accent with every other line.

I think that's the only way TG can get through his horror of a story. It's so awful. I wonder if he's regretting his public enthusiasm for this nonsense.

I'm so sick of actors trying to dictate a story in a fictional world. So.sick.of.it. They go out of their fucking way to say "we're not our characters!!!" but then take the time to talk with TPTB about who they want their character paired with or what direction they want their character to go in. Get the f outta here. Ugh. Tony Geary and others. Stop.

Well, I wrote that while half-asleep, but I did watch a lot of his run on Y&R, and I did feel like he phoned it in much of the time, as did many of the actors in the cast.

When someone goes to another show and the same type of issue crops up again, then it's going to attract a different level of criticism than with Jason Thomson, because Jason has only been on one soap, and hasn't repeatedly gone on breaks, etc.

As for the story on GH - I think the story sucks. I don't blame that on Billy Miller. I've never intended to do so. All stories on GH suck because Ron is a hack. But I do think he's mostly there for the outs and the money, and, given that Roger Howarth has made a career out of this for 20 years, I can't say I really blame him. It's just not something I get a thrill out of watching. I already watched it with Burton, and the best I can say is Miller isn't trying to push healing berry money schemes on us.

I thought he did some good stuff initially after Robin's "death", but since then nothing.

He was great back then. This past year? No. Just so much no. I can't wait to see what scene he chose, though. I need the laugh.

Let's not forget that for about half of the '80s it was almost impossible to get through the before- prime- time hour of evening entertainment shows -- on any channel-- without seeing some kind of feature about Genie and her rich and fabulous life. Even if one takes the stories with a grain of salt, I can't help but wonder if Geary has some residual issues about that.

Did anyone else think it was both odd and telling that Genie said she' d never met Ron? It seems like someone who'd expressed a love for the show would stop by the set to introduce himself and personally welcome an actress who played key roles in several of the stories that made said show " must see TV" for quite a few years.

honestly, I wish more actors had pulled a DZ and JE and not submitted themselves. Is there any cache in a Daytime Emmy anymore? do they just do it for shits and giggles? Because last year's show was sheer embarrassment. I watched it and laughed, but I felt dirty for doing so. I knew I was laughing at a mockery.

To be fair, Ron is based in NYC and the show films in CA.

The show is a joke. It used to mean something. It used to be huge. Soaps used to be huge. The actors and the soap reporters were well-known. The red carpet for the show was on freaking E! Oh, the days.

(Headslap) Thanks for the reminder, TeeVee329. I think I once knew that. Oh well. I'm sure I can find some other reason to hold Ron in contempt.

;)

I don't care what the dude wants. AFAIC he's on contract and he can play it or leave and live out his life, and then I'd write in a reunion for Luke and Laura offscreen. He can have Luke Spencer co-opted or he can play it himself, it's his choice. I suspect when push comes to shove GH will feel the same.

That being said, I am still not convinced Tony would outright, deliberately and actively stand in the way if GH wanted to do it. I don't think that's why Genie left, either; there were clearly personal reasons in addition to possibly work related ones, and I don't put those on TG. He's never, to my knowledge, tried to run her off before, they don't have that kind of relationship. I think there's a difference between Tony grumbling about it and Tony stopping it and therefore circumventing her role on the show.

I'm wondering if perhaps she was misquoted and meant she hadn't met with him regarding story, because she's clearly met the man. Unless they went to the NYSE and didn't speak.

I was laughing at the "OMG WE WERE NOMINATED FOR BEST DRAMA!!!1111" tweets when there's only 4 shows left. I mean, calm down. Jesus.

They couldn't even leave out the weakest of the bunch and make it a 3-way race like last year?

It's like "Welcome to the 2015 Daytime Participation Awards!!

Too bad Oprah is now so far above the daytime emmys (I remember when she hosted it in the early 1990s), so she could shout, "YOU get a nomination! And YOU get a nomination! Every! Body! Gets! A! Nomination!"

There were actually four nominations last year -- one of them was for PP OLTL and GH was shut out.  It was beautiful (and hilarious to see Ron's meltdown on Twitter).

Did BM get nominated for both Y&R and GH?

Which show is BM nominated for?

Even though it doesn't mean much these days I'm glad Laura and Chad are both on the list. I wonder if they both submitted the wedding?

BM was nominated for Y&R.

I want Ali Sweeney to win for lead actress. She did some great work last year.

I agree x 1000.

And although I hate Patrick with the fire of a million suns and wish Dante would get freaking worthy material, JT and Dom seem like such good people. I love that they're besties.
