I have no idea how the Christ this happened. My best guess: With The Fab Life gone Frank realizes they are going to be renewed through at least fall '17, and has decided to start flexing his muscles and bringing back in some of his favorites. He was always the one who loved ME, and killing Silas off was a last minute rewrite (originally it was Ric biting the dust) after FV had already defiantly re-signed Easton in the winter.

I doubt it will be a long-term return but at this point nothing surprises me.

I wish I was a fly on the wall during this decision making process.
“Hey, remember when the ratings were tanking and free-falling last May?”
“Yeah.”
“Who was that story centered all around back then? There was a murder and someone from his family did it?”
“Silas Clay.”
“Yeah, that’s bring that guy back.”

LMAO all that secrecy and its for an actor that has already played other (failed) characters on the show. Why the heck did they kill him off only to bring the actor back,

I don't consider McBain a failure as a character. I thought he worked really well in a screwed up police department, and loved ME with FH and TR. It was Frank and Ron's stupidity that caused them to lose McBain, and Ron's total inability to create a viable new character that was at the root of Easton's failure on GH.

Largely, I agree. But McBain's romance with Sam was so forced.

We were supposed to believe that, while pining for others, they'd get so affected by sharing one single bottle of beer that they'd kiss? Whatevs.

And I think McBain was a general annoyance to GH fans because he had to solve everything. Water crisis. McBain!  Figuring out Fonduke was Faison. McBain! Saving Sam from the vampires? McBain.

Yup. And Michael and Dante had been working on the off-screen stripper case for months and who comes in and wraps that up? McBain.

Well, they certainly are out of excuses for not killing off Franco and producing a new role for Roger Howarth, aren't they?

Roger really needs to leave. He can always get a new contract while getting some Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Yeah, McBain/Sam sucked hard.  He had amazing chemistry with Anna, though.

I am truly sorry to be missing the Robert/Anna/Mac/Felicia, but Frank bringing back Michael Easton AGAIN just re-affirms my decision to paddle past the barge and out towards the deep end of the ocean.

I can think of fifteen actors whose returns I would have paddled furiously back for.

On a very related note, I'm glad Lynn Herring stuck up for herself and rejected 'a line or two every few months' and made it clear that she's more than happy to come back for actual story. It made me think of that picture Kin Shriner posted a few months back of he, Lynn, Jackie Zeman, and Kristina Wagner and cited the three ladies as the way to save GH. A truly substantive and character-driven story with Lucy, Bobbie, and Felicia, would definitely be a reason to tune back in.

I actually didn't mind McBain solving anything Jasus or Sonny weren't allowed to save. He was a cop, not a mobster. I hated his imaginary sister. No one needs a reason to hate Sonny.

Yeah, it was a nice change of pace from the Holy Hitman saving the town; I still remember (in horror) Jason riding to the rescue on a jet ski during the Black & White Ball...

...and I think Cole dying was sufficient enough. I also think whitewashing Sonny and vilifying new character/scapegoat Joe Junior wasn't necessary, and ended up making the whole sister plot rather pointless.

At the very least, can this new character not be a mobster or a mob apologist?

Yeah, my biggest problem with McBain on GH was actually the dangling ties to OLTL - the ridiculous Retconia McBain nonsense and especially how Natalie and Clint both took off-screen hits to prop up his romance with Sam.

I also didn't like how, once he realized Sonny hadn't killed Retconia, he was totally cool with him.  Boooooo.

Maybe this will be hugely unpopular (and should go in that thread), but I'd be for a story with, say, Kin Shriner with Tristan Rogers and Finola Hughes. And sure, throw Lucy in. But - and I know Felicia is popular, Kristina Wagner's acting for me is not good (fits in with many! But still...) these days and frankly - and I know jokes galore have been made of it - Jackie Zeman ruined her face, and it hurts to watch her/Bobbie at this point.

ITA, I hate to miss the bolder people but I can't bring myself to watch this dreck. I'm not in the deep in of the ocean but I am staying put on the barge.

If the above get an actual story with a POV or a few true GH characters I like return, I may change my mind.
