The Duggars: In the Media and TLC

Guest

As a reminder, the site's Politics Policy remains in effect.  Yes, Jim Bob is apparently running for office again. That does not make it an acceptable topic of conversation in here - unless for some mysterious reason, TLC brings the show back and it is discussed on there. Even then, it would be limited to how it was discussed on the show.

If you have any questions, please PM the mods, @SCARLETT45 and myself.

Amy's about 18 months older than the Smugs, but yeah, she was still a minor when all this went down. She may have noticed he was missing, since she actually seemed to have a relationship with him when they were younger (remember the cake incident at his wedding reception?), but who knows what they told her regarding his absence.

eta: I'm referring to the molestations, which were before her engagement and wedding dress fitting. THAT obviously (and overly dramatically, IMO) happened after the Joshley Madison scandal in August (which is pretty damn late for a dress fitting for a Labor Day wedding). I smell just a TAD  (and by tad, I mean a lot) of pants on fire here.

According to Amy, the news about Josh cheating on Anna shattered the family. "I was completely shocked just like the rest of the world," she wrote in her blog update. "The only difference was I was being fitted for my wedding dress with tears running down my face and a glass of wine in my hand as the news broke. I wondered what the heck was going on? A million questions flooded my mind." Then, anger. "Rage came over me, sadness crept in, and reality sat in that the person I had known my entire life turned out to be a fraud, and a complete stranger," she shared. "I’ve always heard that there were people in this world that lived a double life, but I never thought that someone so close to home would be living a lie"

She won't say it, but fucktard fucked up her plans. That's why she cries (black mascara) tears.

Hey Koka! I just wanted to thank you for posting the excerpts like you do for us. I'm always on mobile and its a huge pain in my ass to try to read some of those sites with the click baity crap. The Daily Mail and People come to mind.

So thanks! :)

Any deserved a heads up, since she was around Josh. I blame Michelle and Jim Bob's horrible handling of the whole thing.

I'm thinking Josh won't get the case tossed out.

She is as nucking futs as the rest of them.

How many DUI's has her husband had in the past two years? I want to say 3. Please correct me if I'm wrong. And anyone who peeked at Famy's online registries knows that she asked for a shit-ton of barware, glasses, and other drinking accessories. In other words, she thinks this is adorable.

Dear Amy:

Your husband needs to go to AA and get sober. He does not need a Margaritaville drink dispenser.

Love and kisses,

MV

p.s. Again, one has to wonder how many families in ATI/Gothard/Quiverfull have experience with sibling molestation. If they're all convinced it's "no big deal", it must be a lot more widespread than any of us ever dreamed.

I don't believe the wedding dress part of her revelation, but I certainly DO believe she had a glass of wine in hand when she found out her oldest Duggar cousin was a cheating scumbag who just fucked her her TLC wedding. I remember finding out in the early afternoon, Pacific time; I was in the waiting room waiting to get called in for my mammogram. LOL

I could see Famy tippling by 2-3 on a weekday. After all, what the hell else does she DO other than score some free clothes and pimp the stores on social media? She just better watch it, because booze is purely empty calories.

Either that or they just can't get their minds around it, so they just instinctively look the other way.

Cuz hat we know for sure is widespread in Gothard/Quiverfull country is denial, stupidity and fearfulness.

I think the Duggars see Amy as a "frienemy" tolerating her,and ripping her to shreds behind her back.

Its obvious what the birthing sow Michelle thinks of her, trying to ruin her day with that shapeless whiteshish hospital gown.

If a kid got one DUI in college, I'd write it off as stupid teenage shit, but when you're racking up multiple arrests within a few years, that's indicative of a problem. My theory is DUI Dill's parents were pressuring him to grow up and settle down. Amy was panicking as she hit the big 3-0 with no prospects in site. They ended up together by default, like the Jim Beam version of David and Priscilla Waller.

Widener isn't a terrible law school, it's certainly not Cooley or New York Law (sorry, anyone who went to/goes to Cooley or NYL).  It's in the top 150 in the country.  I know quite a few lawyers who went there and a couple of my friends are currently enrolled.  It's certainly not Penn Law, but it's not the Hollywood Upstairs Law School either.

So, let me get this straight.

Famy is destroyed over him cheating....but not the Chestering he did to his own little sisters.

Am I following this right?

She is as nucking futs as the rest of them.

That's the common thread with all of the Duggars and their apologists.  They write off the molestations as the acts of a young, confused boy but the cheating is a SIN AGAINST GOD!!1!

Or they could genuinely enjoy each other's company (because she's hot and he's hot and their both dumb as stumps), decided to get married (on impulse, because that's what adults do, right?  Not get real jobs or shit, they get married), and will be divorced in three years because he's got a piece on the side and he illegally drives her truck into a lake in an effort to see said piece.  (I have high hopes for this sacred union.)

This.  This has bothered me greatly since the Megan Kelly Interviews.  If this is "no big deal" and "happens to a lot - A LOT - of families", are they referring to the general population?  Because that's not the case at all, even when you take in the estimates of unreported molestation.  Or are they talking about Gothardland/Fundieville, because I can see that happening all too well.  It's the same sort of system that allows the FDLS men to take on multiple teenage brides and other assorted sins of a sexual nature.

This is kind of pathetic, but I just often find it a struggle to write without providing the Duggar's pictures/videos/words, I just find it easier to mock what the Duggars say or did if I include what I thought was mockable. Same sort of thing with pictures of Jill's crows feet, Derick's entire face, Josh's trapeze muffin top etc.

Drunk hot I can see, but they probably struggle to find the other hot in the harsh (sober) light of day. They're well groomed and haven't ballooned, but they're both on the chunky and soft side.

Without TLC quality oversharing, I grew up with the "drinking is the cornerstone" marriage. I'd rather spend the rest of my life alone than deal with what Amy has coming. She'd better buy some sufficient life insurance on him and make sure there's a will in force. If she really loved him, she'd get him into treatment, but I'm sure she doesn't think he has a problem.

I almost feel sorry for her. Hopefully he doesn't take an innocent person with him when he goes.

YES!! Yet they persist in 'protecting' their quivers from us evil UNBELIEVERS, though most of us would never, EVER consider any kind of incestuous behavior to be commonplace and/or 'no big deal'. Their constant assumption of their own moral superiority over unbelievers is beyond nauseating.

I wonder if they get vertigo sitting up there judging society in their high moral ground.

Probably. But Jesus saves them from the vertigo because of their superior holiness.

But in His infinite wisdom he's given them the precious gift of motion sickness as they travel between superior holiness and their high moral ground.

Of course she was angry. Her TLC wedding was cut off at the knees. At least her cousins have a reasonably comfortable life due to the TLC money over the past decade. Famy doesn't have that safety net.

Not sure what forum this should go under (feel free to move) but was wondering what everyone had for predictions for 2016 for the Duggars

Will we get a Josh redemption tour or another scandal?

Who will win the race between Jill and Jessa to get pregnant again?

Will any unemployed suitors be dragged in to court one of the daughters?

How much will be paid out to make the Josh court cases go away?

Will we see more Duggars on TLC?

Will any of the kids escape?

Interested to see what everyone thinks....

I predict that Anna will be desperately trying to catch another baby. Anna is all about getting pregnant. She probably feels that will solve all her marriage problems.

I think Jill with be pregnant by, or soon after, Izzy's 1st birthday, with Jessa becoming pregnant soon after. And yes we will see them on TV. And I think all 3 older J girls will start courting by the time Spurgie is 1.

Also interesting how they say that intra-family child molestation is an everyday thing and no big deal. But one-off adulterous liaisons are absolutely, completely unheard of.

Josh will go on the Salvation Junket with knocked-up Anna simpering by his side and all four Mkids in tow.

Both Jill and Jessa will be pregnant.

JB won't be able to dredge up any suitors for any of the older Jkids, but will continue to market them.

JB will shell out some serious bucks to make the hookers go away.

JB will worm the whole clan back onto TV.

Nobody will escape.....not yet, anyway. Josie will escape when she turns 18.

I thought this was a really interesting article about why speculating about the Duggar kids (even the adult kids) sexuality is just going to make it worse for them: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/lovejoyfeminism/2016/01/why-public-speculation-about-the-duggar-childrens-sexuality-should-be-off-limits.html

Thought this was the best place to put it, and while it focuses specifically on sexuality, it probably applies to even general discussions of the kiddos escaping...I wouldn't be surprised if Jim Bob trolls the web and uses commentary like "Jinger wants to live in a city" as a reason to crack down on her.

Very good article - thanks for posting.

Agree that the minors in this family have no choice about having been made public for their parents' income. Jill and Jessa, however, DO have a choice and their CHOICE is to follow in parental footsteps, actively seeking publicity for profit. JUST LIKE THE KARDASHIANS.

These two have personally experienced the downside of their parents' exploitation of their children for attention and financial gain and, despite their whining about the emotional dues they have paid for being sold for public consumption, they like to blame the 'liberal media's agenda' RATHER than hold their parents accountable. Additionally, they have continued to proactively seek opportunities to foist the same minefield upon their own children.

You really think those girls know they have a choice? And Jessa is pretty much fucked, her teen groom works for her father scrubbing toilets. Neither of these girls have had any time to discover what they want. They went from the control of one man to another in a tightly controlled environment.

You may think because Jill ran off to SA and Jessa isn't dorming with Anna and her sisters that they have freedom. And, technically, they do. But it's useless because they don't know. They weren't raised to see the choices, just what daddy chose for them. It's going to take a while for them to open their eyes, right now everything is moving so fast they don't have time to reflect. And that's just how Gothard wants it.

The chains on them are invisible, but still there.

Aaaaannnd I've said it over and over and over....they should've folded up shop last spring, gotten off TV, media, magazines, etc. Then there would be no discussion of any of this. They would pretty much be forgotten by now. But, no, JB continues to exploit everyone in his family for money. So, yeah, everything in that above article applies, only to EVERY  aspect of their lives. Sorry kids, but get your dad to take you off TV permanently.

My prediction is as follows:

1. No redemption tour per se, but definitely interviews with the highest bidder. Possibly, a book deal. Josh will continue to find ways to act out sexually behind Anna's back. Possibly even a DUI on his record or some scandalous photos courtesy of National Enquirer.

2. Jill will get sperminated again. Jessa will hold off on getting pregnant for awhile. Jesus might lay it Jessa's heart to use birth control.

3. A possible courtship for one of Duggar boys.

4. Enough $$$ to make Jim Bob's helmet head explode.

5. Yes to more episodes on Tlc, or perhaps just a web series.

6. My guess is Jinger and Josiah.

Libby Ann is an idiot leg humper trying to sound intelligent. Trust me, those assholes do more damage to their offspring than any of the snarkers ever could. And last time i checked, the only one i have ever wondered about in a purely bored way is already an adult and free to go live his life anyway he sees fit. They all can leave any frigging time they choose to act like the adults they biologically are. Besides..they have already shipped the questionable one to ALERT numerous times trying to pray the gay away.

I really take offense when those girls act like their viewing audience and the media is who victimized them. That's utter bullshit. Go talk to your shitty parents.

I think the article makes some very good points, as I have no interest in guessing the sexual orientation of people I know only on TV.  You can barely get me to speculate on the sexual orientation of my coworkers when some try, whom I interact with for 40+ hours/week.

But considering I'm pretty sure Jinger, Meshell and the girls had this discussion on TV already according to a video link someone posted, I don't think we have to worry about JB being surprised and taken aback by Jinger's "secret" wishes to live in a city enough to do anything except, well, thwart them.

I thought her attempting to blame internet strangers and their comments about the offspring of JB Duggar and his possibly punishing said adult offspring as a result rather ludicrous. Sorry if it offended you or if you are Libby Ann. I meant no offense directly. I just think it was ludicrous to hold anyone responsible for backlash other than the main offenders.

Well, I meant one-off in the sense of "not an ongoing-over-time affair with one person." He had a few one-offs. (or two-offs, in one case, anyway) And I would still be very very very surprised if that's a less common thing than in-the-family child molestation. In any group, Gothardism included. And, to me anyway, it's a lot less alarming in its potential consequences. MMV on that, obviously.
