My son actually got shot at close range by accident by a friend,when he was eight. The BB entered the dura (covering) of his BRAIN! He had to have surgery.

Btw , I had no idea his friend even had a BB gun. This was when we lived in Florida, and the police came to the hospital and took a report, because it was a GUN shooting.

I should qualify. I liked your post because you demonstrated that EVEN BB guns are dangerous. I'm sorry your son was injured. Hope he's okay now and that everyone learned an important lesson.

shuddering at the thought of them being that close to me.  (I live in Austin. The SXSW invasion has begun.)

The new "gun gate" scandal will be much more serious than 'cat gate' and rightly so (sorry animal lovers.)  Whether it's a BB gun, a plastic toy, or the real thing is irrelevant to a responsible gun owner.  You treat every firearm as if it's real and loaded, all the time, every time.  I grew up around them (my father was a cop), I raised my children around them (I became a cop too.) My three year old learned that he would lose his toy cap gun if he pointed it at his sister, or the cat for that matter. 

Teaching gun safety started early and applied to all weapons. If my father had seen my gun lying unattended on the ground like that...well, I don't like to think of what he would have done to me. O.o The nicest things would have included taking it from me for months and remedial safety classes. Less pleasant might have included a hickory switch!! (jk...sorta)

This lackadaisical attitude to gun safety is a tragedy waiting to happen.

I knew what was meant. He's fine..he's a married guy with three kids of his own. I bet he'll make sure none of their friends have any kind of weapon.

Rachael Ray BOUGHT a spot for her husband's crappy band to play by getting a sweet tax write off as she sponsors a venue every year. She's part of the problem down there; her husband's band is garbage.

I can relate, although on a far smaller scale. Our little town has an Apple Festival - first weekend in October. It started with a few craft vendors and food in the community park when I was in high school - gradually it's become quite the thing. A juried art show, wonderful crafters, all kinds of food, a car show, many other events over two days. And the town population probably quadruples at least. Not to mention the whole parking & traffic deal. It used to be lots of fun for locals, but now most of us make plans to be elsewhere that weekend. My family has a clambake every year in the Fall and we aim for that weekend so I can "miss the Festival." :>)

About a week ago, the Duggar Family FB page posted a link to buy some crap either endorsed by, or actually featuring their buddy Mike Huckabee. Of course, the leghumpers were all over it. However, it turns out that the site the Duggars recommended was a scam, and their credit cards were getting multiple charges derived from the initial purchase.

There is some kind of fall out with Huckabee, and also the Holts some years back. I wonder if the posting was an attempt to get back in good graces (which would make the scam doubly funny, as I've always said Jim Bob's political instincts were terrible.)

A few weeks ago, in DC, there was a photo of JB and Michelle, Josh and Anna (who DO need these contacts) the Holts and only Mrs. Huckabee - Huckabee himself was conveniently absent. Mrs ah and the Holts did not look terribly happy to be in said photo.

I saw that pic on either Josh or Anna's instagram and had the same feelings about it. Huckabee was indeed conspicuous by his absence. I guess the Holts still attend CPAC, so this grouping makes their Arkansas contingent happy, regardless of how the parties in the picture actually feel about one another. 

 

I still wonder what exactly brought about the rift between the Duggars and Holts. It was rumored that Josh had been betrothed to a Holt daughter, but that ended badly. However, I believe the Duggars campaigned for Holt after this "breakup" (if there ever was one). They certainly still have enough of Holt's campaign posters to use as sleds on wintry days. LOL

Does anyone know whose house or ranch they vacationed at? By what's shown in the pictures, it looks like a very nice place.

On a sidenote, on the picture of MEchelle holding fish, one of the leg humpers complimented her on her denim skirt & said she had one just like it. OMG Where do they get these fans?

I don't really think the fall out had anything to do with Josh. I'm betting that they simply used that as a way to cover up something Jim Bob did. I can't imagine the Holts, let alone the Huckabees having an issue with a teenage kid and holding onto a grudge this long ( and it's clear they hold a grudge - and given that Josh is in DC, it's NOT towards him.). On the other hand, I can see Jim Bob doing something really really stupid and jeopardizing someone's chances and then trying to blame his child rather than take responsibility himself. Yeah, I can see that.

I like how one of the posters commented that Josie was safe because someone took the picture & had to see the gun there. Don't they realize it was a Duggar who took the picture not a TLC cameraman who hopefully would have moved it?

 

Although I think the TLC cameramen have a very soft spot for the Duggars, I don't know that they would make sure they were not in danger.  Their job is to capture what happens, not change it.  There have been other documented cases of reality participants being hurt while cameras filmed.

 

I do think that they have been around this family long enough that cameras would be dropped if something happened though.

Back during one of the earlier gungate issues, in an interview Michelle tried to deflect the talk of them having so many guns by saying the boys used them for hunting and brought in squirrels to cook.  Not many people believed her then because well have we ever seen her cook something not from a grocery store?

I'm still extremely suspicious that it was from one of those captive animals hunts.  Not a real hunt, with a real problem hog.  Not fair.  Not cricket.  Are they going to eat it?  I wonder how wild hog differs from pig in taste.

They're called canned hunts - same as Dick Cheney was on when he shot that other man on the face. Tame, penned animals that aren't afraid of humans, wander around waiting to be fed. They get shot instead. I 100% believe the beta male duggars go on canned hunts only. They're so fake and plastic.

It might be a canned hunt - they are unfortunately common enough. But the fact that there is only one hog leaves open the possibility that it was a real hunt. And both sides of the political aisle (hunters and land/Eco conservationists alike) agree that the wild hog population is a genuine problem, and hunting them is at least part of the solution to keeping them under control, as introducing other predators or poisons or other solutions have their own problems.

I thought the same thing about them eating it. Thought they don't "do pig". (As my vegan niece says in reference to any meat that comes from a pig.)

I'm certain the Duggars aren't in it for the environment. But wild pigs as incredibly destructive are one issue that nearly everyone, regardless of ideology, is in agreement about.

Most hunting kills can be donated to be used as food. Again, I have zero evidence that the Duggars do such things, I'm only saying that it can be done if people so choose.

Regardless, I'm a little miffed the only picture the media focused on was with Josie and the gun. The other pictures were honestly just as damning and irresponsible and I didn't see them mentioned in any articles but the buzzfeed blog.

 

Nice catch, Barb, about the meat being unclean. I hope they donated it. I also hope they had a home school lesson about the dangers of overpopulation using boars a a real life example. Ha!

Saw the pics and I personally don't have a problem with killing feral pigs.  I realize how much damage they cause and how much they are overpopulating - ruining crops, killing farm animals, house pets etc.  They are definitely a problem.

 

I can see someone that is a vegan being offended by the thought.  However, anyone that eats fish, chicken, turkey, beef, pork, etc. (IMO) should not be so offended by the act.  I hate the treatment of animals that end up in our grocery stores in general and try to grow and eat as many veggies as possible.

 

What I wish is that instead of the smiling pics they posted - they had posted pics of them taking their kill for processing and handing it out to needy families in Texas.  We all know there are people there that desperately need it.

 

I grew up in Georgia- and unless this is a different variety of feral or wild boar, the meat is totally edible. I really don't eat pork - no strict thing where I won't touch it- however, I have eaten wild boar- hog- pig- whatever you want to call it and it was much better than the crap in the grocery store. (and not filled with antibiotics and hormones to make them grow faster)

 

For some reason, this whole fiasco reminded me of an episode of Emeril in Florida- where he eats at a restaurant that serves Lion Fish (an invasive species that is destroying the reefs and eco-system).  I'm an animal lover and every time I catch a fish, I thank it for what it is giving to me.  

 

Geez, tell me I'm not defending the Duggars!  lol  Just my feelings on the matter.  

 

EDIT to say- I am totally NOT in favor of those captive animal hunts!  EVER!

I only listened to a couple minutes. The voices hurt me. I listened to how Jimbo prepares his sons to resist sexual temptation. he gives the boys $1000 to memorize the entire book of proverbs. Probably $1 a year for 1000 years. Jer is taking him up on it.

 

Edit: I listened a little more: romance novels are the same as porn. Jim says you can't truly enjoy sin. Antidepressants and buying yourself things are the reason Jesus came. Jim Bob actually said that. . The Duggs sure buy themselves a lot of things. Private planes, etc. Jim Bob claims the kids use cheap non-smart phones. Jim Bob says they also have macbook airs (by name). Michelle says she and the older girls all have the internet password. Mechelle says satan causes it. Jim bob pulls out desires being stored up and says defrauding. Michelle asks the kids to tell her about their sexual fantasies and temptations. (Yeah, tell mommie all about how seeing the DDD boobies made you feel in great detail Omit noting. Ewwww) Michelle attributes sexual desires to statan putting the thoughts in your head. Jim says she says the desires aren't natural and can be overcome with spiritual warfare. The kids need to be their own watchdogs (how? they were never trusted as kids or teens?). Accountability fixes everything. Michelle says shock treatments (?) don't eliminate guilt. They hawk the girls book. This interview is worth listening to, you can hear the crazyness, inconsistencies, and immaturity of the parents teachings. No one here is remotely on good terms with sex, temptation, or life.

 

Maybe the password is "shibboleth".

I can't bear the covenant site right now but bookmarked and saved it.  My thoughts are that once you say the magic words sex all day and night every day and night must be ok, and something to brag about.  Dry hump demos and dirty little jokes are also A-OK, right JB?  How does he know romance novels and porn are one and the same?  I could go on. But bullshit bothers me.

They basically didn't touch on females having sexuality, or physical desire, at all. The part about sexual arousal coming from something outside of yourself (saton), and not being a natural, normal part of yourself is so effed up. It's something that needs spiritual warfare when you're 15, but once you get married it's right as rain, and come from you, as a right from God? The gist of the whole thing is that you can't severe control yourself without an outside authority doing it for you. And that authority is your parents. Jim and Mechelle never struggle with sexual desire, it seems. Who'd have them anyway, right?

 

For the record, I believe in parents having frank, appropriate discussions of sex with their kids. The benefits and the pitfalls. Jim and Mechellle never matured in this manor. The teen marriage really stunted both of them, forever.

Damn. Knew it was inevitable but....damn. Edit: The proof looks pretty legit - it's a pic of Ben standing behind Jessa and both their hands are on her stomach.

Pickles is full of shit. That pic is a month old. She found it on FJ, from a poster who just found it all this time later and thought it was new. 

 

Nothing to see there...

 

I think the IG pic I posted today of Jessa is more indicative of a possible pregnancy than their poses a month ago, poses that they were likely told to do.

Here is the People article. It accompanied the hard copy when they got the cover. This pic was part of that spread. It's dated 2/18. eta; Thinking about the timing of all of this, I bet the pic was taken on Valentine's Day, and they probably thought it was cute. That would be a very logical explanation for the silly heart crap. And of course, their virulent pro-life stance.
