I don't think this is off topic and still about the show, as Trump called them out and inferred something nefarious about their relationship recently in those tweets.

That said, I know Meeka just got quietly divorced.....so could someone  explain....do she and Joe have a thang goin' on...even if rumored.

How much evidence, if any, is there?

I need to know if they are having late night trysts, schmooching and shopping Lands End catalogues for their matchy preppie outfits.

The Vanity Fair article confirms that Joe has an apartment in Manhattan. There was also a BlindItem Gossip report last year that Mika & Joe were using the apartment.

I think that Vanity Fair piece posted here recently about Joe's music hobby will be the closest they'll ever get to an "official" confirmation.

I would think they would go public eventually (assuming they don't split up first). Joe has talked about running for office again in the future, and having a not-so-secret girlfriend is not ideal in that scenario.

Maybe they are waiting for some time to go by so that it's not so obvious that they were together before they got divorced. But, at this point so many people seem to know, that seems pointless.

Thinking of those two locked in a tongue-tangled embrace is indeed barf inducing.  yeesh

Speaking of barf inducing, I read in one of those Page Six gossipy articles that Joe and Mika are rumored to share a dressing room at MSNBC. I don't even want to think about what might be going on in there.

I think the Abedin-Weiner split was big news because Huma will probably be Hillary's Chief of Staff after the election. Furthermore, Weiner being caught in another sexting scandal adds another dimension to the marriage breakdown.

I do recall Joe taking the High Road when Mark Sanford's marriage dissolved. Mark is a friend of Joe's

Huma's personal life has nothing to do with her role in Hillary's campaign/WH. I am glad they took the high road and wish more of the political media would have done the same.

Mika is so much better with Joe off the show. I would kill for Morning Mika with Willie as the 2nd and Barancle never showing his face again. Barancle adds absolutely nothing of value to the show.

And they need to stop with trying to tie Trump to the Dems. He embraced Republican positions the the Republican base embraced Trump.

I agree about Barnicle adding nothing to the show. My latest thing on the show that drives me crazy is when they introduce "legendary Mike Barnicle", and Barnicle makes these ridiculous faces. I'm not even sure what he is trying to do.

Good morning, everyone!  I've been reading and enjoying your comments here all summer.  This is my first MJ post (I think!) and I hope you don't mind my sharing.   :)

I've taken my accrued personal leave this summer, and, so, I find myself following the news much more than ever.  Although I knew of the Morning Joe show,   I never watched it regularly until this late spring and summer.

I'm both fascinated and repelled by the show and its principals.   There's a kind of chumminess and familiarity among the regulars and guests that can often be funny and evocative, but more often than not, just annoying and cringeworthy.

With apologies to Mika supporters, I don't understand her or like her, and I'd like to know how she keeps her job. My observations over the last months have told me that Mika's chief roles are news reader, emotional cluck-clucker and Joe's cozy, personal-space-invading, ogler-in-chief.  Yet, to me, she cannot even read the teleprompter with professionalism.  She stutters, mispronounces words, leaves words out or inserts her own words.  To me, it's often evident when she reads aloud  articles from newspapers or press releases, or transcripts of interviews, that she's seeing the words for the first time. Does she ever prepare?  I often think she doesn't even understand what she's reading.  I feel embarrassed for her.  Watching her trying to formulate a question is mind-numbing.   She likes to pretend that she can't get her words out due to emotionalism or a faux-shock or a WTF mindset, but, really, to me...?  She just doesn't know how to express a well-thought question.  I think she's dim and limited.

Mike cannot even do basic hosting duties.  This morning, Wed 8/31/16, the show opened, camera on her.  It was obvious that Joe S was not there at the studio table, but Mika didn't mention that.  Instead, she looked across the table to intro Mike Barnicle (as a veteran, rather than as legendary.  Thank you God!)  Willie G was seated elbow to elbow with Mike B, but Mika ignored him.  She turned her attention to Donny D, and made a sneering comment about his appearance or dress.  (I understand many of these people are personal, off-screen friends, but both Mika and Joe often cross the line to a kind of bullying, observational barb-exchange, addressing clothing, hair, vocab, mannerisms. Doesn't come off as good-natured at all.  Really uncomfortable to watch.)

Anyway, suddenly, Mika throws a question to Joe in a remote location-studio, no explanation whatsoever of where he is, or why.

And, also, with apologies to Joe supporters, Joe S is,  in my estimation,  immature, insecure, petulant and as big a narcissist and self-promoter as the prez candidate he once adored, but now reviles.  I only recently noticed how Joe and Mika promote his upcoming music performances! He thinks he's a rock star?  Their egos are unchained.   And Joe's latest tweeting war with the Big Orange, read on air, over and over and over, while cackling and cockadoodledooing, are over- the- top lunacy.  In the past couple of years, my work as a social worker with families at risk has thrown me into the nightmares of kids and adolescents greatly affected by social media bullying, stalking and pathology.   There's an online cesspool out there.   Observing Joe often reminds me of the kids I meet and try to help.  Joe himself needs help and lessons in appropriate adult behaviors.  I hate when he uses his private convos with his kids as evidence of his insightfulness. None of it ever rings true to me.

Obviously, MJ is a personality-driven, news-oriented talk show, so I don't expect a straight, button-down show.  But M and J cross the line into burlesque and unintended self-parody much too much for me.

And I HATE how they don't allow their guests to finish a thought, but, instead, bulldoze over almost everybody's points and observations.

Many MJ guests are great, and my mind has been opened by their reporting and experiences, for sure.  However, the show could be so much better.  "Baby" Step 1:   STOP introducing Barnicle as "legendary."  Please!  :)

They can keep doing it, so long as the next words are "plagiarist and fabulist."

As for these shows, I do sympathize with producers and show bookers - you need to find someone to talk about an issue, and there are fameballs who always answer the phone and will be at the remote location or in hair and makeup with 10 minutes' notice. So it becomes so easy to book these hacks over and over, because you know they'll do it. Need a senator on quick? Claire McCaskill on speed-dial!

That said these shows need to stop booking Sean "Real World" Duffy. He's like the Marco Rubio of Wisconsin - a total robot.

Thank you for watching, Oakville, so we don't have to.

All I can say is, le sighhhhh...Is anyone talking about North Carolina's continued efforts to deny Black voters the ballot?  How about the E.U.'s demand that Apple pay $14.5 billion in back taxes?  Or, how about the 1,100 Indiana residents forced to scramble to relocate because the soil outside their homes is toxic?  I believe these stories are of utmost importance because they tie into the issues in the upcoming election, i.e. ongoing voter suppression attempts; American companies ducking taxes here; and this crisis in Governor Pence's homes state amid the backdrop of his ticket's platform to eliminate the EPA and other protective regulatory agencies, as well as wealth disparity and our crumbling infrastructure.

But as usual, it's all Trump, all the damn time.

I too wish they talked about different topics than horse race politics but the problem lies with their stable of inside-baseball hacks they have on as their panelists. Does anyone think Cackles or Barnicle or Donnie Deutsch can talk intelligently about Apple's tax fraud or the Voting Rights Act violations?  They used to have a woman on from the Financial Times - I haven't seen her in a long time.

Thursday Recap. Trump goes to Mexico! Cackles & Willie loved the stagecraft. The panel was upset that Trump's speech in Arizona was more anti illegal immigration. Joe bragged about how he won his first election by having his opponents brand him as a rock star hippy & Ralph Reed Christian Conservative. cackles was upset that the surrogates who promoted softening on immigration look foolish, since Trump is hardening.

Joe is worried that the polls are tightening again. Hillary's emails & the Clinton Foundation are causing her support to drop.

Mika said the campaign is about nothing. Mika doesn't like Ann Coulter & won't mention her name.

Joe bragged about how popular his song is.

Joe is wearing a navy blue sweater & Mika is wearing a navy blue dress. They have worn these clothes many times this summer.

I think the reason for this is that their apartment in Manhattan doesn't have much closet space. There is probably room for for only a few sweaters, tan pants. No room for Joe's socks which are in Connecticut.

Mika and Joe were better than Lawrence O'Donnell on the Trump trip and speech. Hell is freezing over!

Also, I loved that Mika has been told how horrible Ann Coulter is by someone (maybe dad?) and refuses to give her anymore air time or even read her quote in the copy. Go, Mika! Coulter is vile--not just from what she believes but for how willing she is to lie and be hateful in the service of it. Why should someone like that be given a national forum on anything other than Fox? I can't understand it.

I hope Matthews was watching.

ETA: Mika's stronger than I am. Coulter just tweeted, "I hear Churchill had a nice turn of phrase, but Trump's immigration speech is the most magnificent speech ever given." That has got to be one of the funniest things anyone's said through the whole election cycle.

What I learned from today's show.

Everyone was appalled, at some level, at Trump's speech.

The President of Mexico is a chump.  No wonder his popularity is in the low 20's.

Hillary is running a traditional campaign against a traditional candidate.  Wake up.  It's nice that Hillary's romping around The Hampton's with the likes of Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney but all the money in the world's not going to get her elected.  Remember Jeb Bush?

If Trump's wins this thing, it's going to be the crime of the century.

I hear you about the lack of news coverage but this is one news show I don't ask to cover news stories. Their stated intention is to be about politics, inside ball is their thing. It's the rest of the 24 hour news media that needs to get off Trump and the election and cover the news in the world. And how it could possibly pertain to the election if anyone would bring it the F up.  But yeah ...the presidential election is not everything by any stretch.

This show suffers from a serious lack of diversity. Is Jose Diaz-Balart still a host on MSNBC or did MSNBC let him go with all the other minority anchors to make room for more white and out of touch anchors? If Diaz-Balart is still around he should be a regular fixture on the panel. Get rid of Barnacle as he offers absolutely zero insight.

And Nicole Wallace offered the most inane comment ever when discussing Trump's immigration speech when she said that Trump made his spokespeople look dumb by not pivoting. Seriously, Trump gives a terrifying anti-immigrant speech and that is what she wants to talk about? Way too much white privledge at that table this morning.

Joe's Navy Blue Sweater Road show continues to Washington. Today the sweater was joined by a light blue checkered dress shirt. Mika was wearing a navy blue tennis dress. They were in Washington for Mika's mom's art show. Dr Z was there.

Dr Z has not been on the show in a long time. I wonder why?

Joe continues his "hardening- softening"  Viagra jokes about Trump.

Ron Fournier came on to say that Trump is making too many campaign mistakes to win. Hillary should have turned over her server to the FBI in 2015.

Fournier is leaving politics to move to Detroit.

Mika interrupted evryone when they try to discuss Trump. She thinks Trump wants to get laugh lines at his rallies.

Mika told Joe to stop using his cellphone during commercial breaks.

Katty Kay said that Obama is known as the deportee President with Latinos.

Fournier said there won't be much ticket splitting. Steele & Katty Kay disagreed, The GOP Senators are doing much better than Trump.

Chuck Todd & Kristen Welker joined the panel. Kristin want Hillary to rejoin the campaign trail. Mika said the strategy is to let Trump dominate the news.

Joe said "its a jump ball" between Hillary & Trump.

Most of the other panelists say Hillary is ahead.

Hillary & Trump have unfavourables around 60%.

Mika said Hillary may allow the press to travel in her plane & may consider answering questions from them.

Howzabout just saying you'd love a taco truck on every corner?

Seems pretty easy, and probably pricey, to just rent one. And the rental trucks are already available.

Cackles only cares about the political consulting side of politics. She failed to properly prepare Sarah Palin for the Couric interview & then when Palin flopped, she leaked the stories about Palin's expensive wardrobe & lack of knowledge of world affairs. It is unbelievable that NBC pays her to talk politics when she botched the biggest campaign she was involved in. Now, she tells Robbie Mook to let Hillary answer as  many questions as necessary on the emails issues. This is horrible advice based on the last press conference Hillary had 270 days ago. Why does Cackles consistently give bad advice? Is she trying to be a worse pundit than Mark Halperin?

Exactly! Mika & Joe have been trying to latch on the the "hottest" candidates since Chris Christie. I remember Mika had organized a run around the Washington Monument in 2009 or 2010 & was demanding that Christie show up. He said he couldn's come because it was his wife's birthday!. Mika & Joe were trying to convince Mark Sanford & Bob McDonnell to run for President. I think they even liked the former Gov of Illinois who ended up in Jail. They never learn!

I only watched the last hour today so forgive me if I missed it,  but I can't stand it when Joe and Mika are deliberately obtuse.  They were all "Gee, I wonder why the polls are tightening?"  Maybe because you spent most of the show on Hillary's emails and no time on Trump basically bribing the Florida attorney general to drop a case against him.  Lawrence O'Donnell tried to bring it up and Joe just mocked him and said he was pandering to his base.  It's getting increasingly difficult to take this show seriously anymore.

Tuesday Recap. Joe's navy blue sweater returned to NYC after the weekend. Mika is wearing a violet jacket over a navy blue dress. It might be the same dress she wore last week. Cackles,Halperin, Ratner,David Ignatius,Eugene Robinson are on the panel.

Mika was very upset that Tim Kaine didn't rescue Hillary during her long coughing fit during her speech yesterday.

Joe is in a very bad mood today. Joe went on a long rant about Hillary's emails. Joe is mad at the FBI. They look shoddy & politically favouring Hillary. There was no reason for the document dump on Friday afternoon.

Joe was outraged that others that could have been indicted like Cheryl Mills were allowed to listen to  Hillary's testimony. You can't have all the potential indicted people in the same room at the same time under US Law.

Joe was mad that 10 Blackberry's & laptops went missing. Only 2 blackberry's were destroyed with a hammer. Joe said someone can track the missing BB.

Mika said the FBI is political & weak.

Joe said FBI Director Comey is an arm of the Clinton campaign.

Joe said the FBI should not have let Comey get away with not indicting Hillary but allowing him to give that press conference where he said she was reckless.

The constant release of information about the emails is damaging Hillary's campaign.

Halperin said the new revelations are very damaging for Hillary.

Ignatious tried to defend Hillary & said that hard drives are destroyed every day. Joe scoffed at him & said not the SOS's hard drives.

Joe challenged Ignatios to list Hillary's accomplishments as SOS. He said that Hillary gave Obama advice on Syria & Egypt which Obama ignored.

The new CNN poll shows Trump ahead 45-43. NBC poll shows Hillary ahead 48-42.

Later in the show, Cilizza said the polls are unreliable because they are based on 2012 turnout model. If 110M people show up to vote instead of 125M like 2012, Trump could win.

Haas said it was a change election. Eugene said the electoral college still favors Hillary.

Joe is stunned how close Trump is to Hillary in the polls. Joe said Trump's immigration policy is closer to some form of legalization.

Joe said everyone underestimated Reagan in 1980 & called him a madman. He did the debate & looked reasonable & won a landslide.

Cackles said that if Trump speaks softly during the debate & sounds reasonable he will win the debate.

The other big topic was Obama's visit to China. Joe was furious at how much Obama is not respected by all the Asian Leaders. The Phillipine President called Obama an SOB & SOW.

The Chinese refused to give Obama  proper stairs when he came off the plane. The Chinese officials were yelling at Susan Rice.

Joe said no one takes Obama seriously. The Russians were mean to Obama.

Haas said Obama wanted to pull troops out of the Middle East. He wanted to rebalance to Asia, but that policy failed.

Rattner's eye has healed & he had new charts on illegal immigrants in the USA. It's down to 11.3M from 12.2M in 2007.

If the immigrants are undocumented, how can they be counted?

Obama is the President that has deported 435K immigrants vs 280K under Bush. Obama is the Deporter in Chief!

I missed Joe saying this but there is no *law* against having potentially indicted people in the same room. It is, however, very poor investigative practice.

WTF was Joe so pissed off about this morning?

Based on his rants this morning, it seems Joe is pissed to the highest of pissivity because Hillary hasn't been indicted, as he and his henchwoman confidently predicted months ago.

It's hilarious how no mention was made of the goings-on in New Jersey in the next couple of weeks, i.e. the trial in the George Washington Bridge lane closing scandal which is scheduled to open on Thursday with jury selection.  Although Governor Christie wasn't charged or indicted, at least one of his aides claims he knew about it.  Given how hard Joe and Meek-a rode Christie's jock and ridiculed all news about this very real scandal, I'm surprised it hasn't gotten any play on the show.  Maybe they will talk about it tomorrow?

I also hate these dueling polls and wish these people would focus on real policy differences between the two candidates instead of the horse race.  The thought, as posited by Cackles, that Trump could win the debate by simply modulating his tone is ridiculous.

I agree that it will be ridiculous if that happened, but it is possible isn't it? Isn't that what how the Biden/Palin debate was judged? If she managed not to wet herself or fall off of the stage, she would be considered the victor?

If I recall, she danced around the majority of the questions, recited her talking points, and at one point flat out refused to answer some questions, but afterwards there were folks who claimed that she won the debate hands down.

I'm hoping that this debate is different.

How typical of Scarborough to sneer at O'Donnell playing to his base when we have seen nothing but Scarborough for the last 18 months or more be that uncomfortably weird and yet compelling dog in the dogpark that snaps and snarls and comes in acting tough and then scampers about quivering and tries to get all the other dogs there to sniff his ass in hopes of acceptance.  "are you my base?" "are you my base?"  Windsocks and windchimes have more independent integrity.

I actually thinks Scarborough is simply furious at the election being in a state where quite simply people are at a point of not caring.  Because it is the campaign doldrums barring some big headline grabbing gaffe or scandal.  I don't mean that people have stopped caring about the vote come November.  I mean that this is a time when most people have a huge shift in their lives.  School is still a dominant factor in the majority of people's lives in one way or another.  Summer is over for the leisure class.  Football is back.  It has always been a transitional period in US society and this year with the conventions as early as they were and the stupid election itself now into its second year (remember Scarborough, you helped push that idiotic piece of shit out), people are simply taking a rest and caring more about life in general.  And Scarborough still cannot go all out against Drumpf (he always has a mitigation even amidst the angry Yam's launching his all out snot against Scarborough's co-working concubine) because I think at this point he knows he cannot completely do a "I was right all along" that he drags out his ass every single time he was most often just the opposite.  So Clinton not having a huge drop is frustrating as hell for him.  And people simply not focusing everything on the race must piss him off as well since it is the only thing that makes him relevant.  Even in DC as people stumble back into town, more people in the circle and know (all the ones who he claims sidle up and whisper in his ear) are looking to see what the President brings back and what is going to happen with that asshole in the Philippines and what is going on with Chancellor Merkle in face of their new election results and how she plays it with France and Italy when they meet again and actually hammer everything out.

All things which need nuance and logic and some actual experience in true political thinking.  None of which he has as shown again today.  And I think he just hates when he cannot pretend to be the only one who knows anything in the room. It doesn't stop him from braying his idiocy of course.  And it won't stop him from claiming that in each instance when the outcome is known and understood, he will claim to have said it was going to happen just like it did long before anyone else did and everyone else will shuffle their papers and look at their desk while Mika leans back and nods her head trying to convey being this louche but wise courtesan pundit in a salon built for two and Nicole Wallace will cackle and simper just off and then try to not look like a dashboard bobblehead when the camera turns her way.

And the document dump was reported as being done as soon as it it was given the legal greenlight.  I did a look on Google news and a month ago it mentioned the document dump and gave the date and said it was a lucky or unlucky coincidence.  Maybe Scarborough needs to take a page from MSNBC's other professional liar and start listening to Sirius on his way in to work each day.

The panel has so much disgust for Hillary and her emails, computer server and mobile devices.

Of course none it mattered to them or the republican party before Hillary announced she was running for president.

To the panel's defense, this issue only came to light in March 2015; she gave a press conference at the UN shortly thereafter which received coverage from every major news outlet, including this show. She officially announced her candidacy the following month.

I turned on the show this morning and it was just chaos.  Joe was ennervated and talking over everyone constantly.  Mika was in sanctimonious mode and spoke to the camera to "tut tut" Mrs Clinton in a condescending, scolding tone.
Joe wouldn't let Mika kick it to commercial so Ratner could speak, and the whole time there was cross-talk that made most of everything inaudible, and really uncomfortable.

They used to have a woman on from the Financial Times - I haven't seen her in a long time.

Chrystia Freeland, she's a little bit busier and less accessible with her new duties as Canada's Minister of International Trade, she disappeared pretty much after she became a Canadian MP a few years ago.

Discussion of the hosts regarding a specific episode is fine here, but generalized discussion of the hosts go in the The Hosts Thread: Joe and Mika Know Their Value.
