"When Will I See You Again" by Three Degrees was played.

I was pleased but surprised to see Steve Kornacki on, given how a few years ago, he wrote a scathing takedown on Barnicle for Salon. And it's always nice to see Chris Jansing's inject some real journalism among these bloviators.

Can't wait for the gang to hit up a cheese steak stand (you KNOW that's coming....)

Mumbles, Kasie Hunt was on the panel showing her visit to a cheesesteak place where she got the prohibition on "no Swiss" so Joe could make fun of elitist John Kerry ordering one with Brie back in 2004.

What did they play, "TSOP"?  The Stylistics?

In addition to "When Will I See You Again?" by the Three Degrees as Mumbles mentioned, they played the Soul Train theme song.  I only heard those two because I didn't watch the entire show.

I saw that - it's always great to see a lazy hacky take on "small incident as grand symbolic gesture" political "journalism" - even if it's twelve years old!

Tuesday recap. Mika has a new top!. Joe is still wearing Fleece. The panel loved Michelle's speech. The panel was concerned about Bernie's delegates disrupting the convention yesterday. Mika said she was right about DWS. Joe said the GOP is too negative this year.

What a strange setting for MJ, an Irish pub where I see all white faces.  I've been looking and I don't see one brown face.  I mean, this is Philly.  I'm pretty sure they could have found a location with a more diverse crowd.

With Joe wearing a self-logoed fleece, boat shoes and no socks and Mika wearing sunglasses on her head indoors at 7 am these two are nothing short of costumed cartoon characters.

Agreed. Also white? The interns who came on at the end. Sadly internships in publishing, broadcast media, investment banks etc are handed out to children with parental connections. (I think one of Barnicle's kids interned on this show, to prove my point.)

Zeke Emanuel is my favorite Emanuel brother (talk about damning with faint praise.) I wish they had spent more time on his segment with the health insurance executive, than wasted time on that dumb bit with Ted Cruz being badly lip-read.

Funny moment on MSNBC this morning. It happened during the 10-11am transition. The woman anchoring from 9-10 (I don't know her name, sorry) was handing off to José Diaz-Balart, and somehow José ended up holding her hand somehow (I'm not sure why, or how, I wasn't watching that closely).

Anyway, the woman anchor then said "José, why are you holding my hand?  It's like Morning Joe here"

Wednesday recap. Mika got a new Phillies fleece. Joe has a new blue Phillies fleece. Mika was scared of a mouse & ran from her chair. She came back to the set later. They are still chanting about Mika's truck. The panel was confused by Bill talking about his romance with Hillary. Willie said Bill skipped over the mid-late1990's. Mika liked the DNC convention better because they had a better list of speakers. Halperin said Trump could still win the election.

Terry Mcauliffe got into trouble by telling a reporter that Hillary will change her position on TPP after the election. Heileman said it was OK because they will make some changes & come up with a new name for TPP.

The crowd was rowdy at the pub. There was 1 African American lady at the pub today. I assume that the guests are delegates from the convention

Al Sharpton was happy that the moms of the men killed by Police endorsed Hillary.

They're pretty cozy. It's like they get up in the morning and decide to fabric coordinate. If you notice, it's not always the same colors, but they are both sure to wear kakhis, and a fleece....every.single.day.

I just can't anymore with the two of them in overly casual a.m. dress code. It's so disrespectful to the audience.

Maybe I am too old, or too old fashioned. Look, I wouldn't have a problem if Joe wore a summery sports jacket with dress shirt and no tie. But the khakis with no socks and deck shoes, with the fleece? Ridiculous. What do they think they're covering, The Americus Cup? They are not the Today Show outside at 30 Rock doing summer outdoor bar-b-que cooking segments - - but sheesh, even that crew, Matt, Al, Savannah, dresses professionally.  While this show does cover a range of topics related to politics, they still do disqus serious matters. So they sit there like that while talking about national security or terrorism ??! Then the two of them coordinating. Puhleeze.

It just looks so bad when other guests show up dressed professionally....plus dressing like that and interviewing the Vice President ???!!!

My fantasy:

I am in the crowd at that Philadelphia pub where the show was broadcasting from this morning.

I yell over to Joe and Mika:

" Why don't the two of you just show up in your hotel bathrobes. You're pretty much there. "

That article is something else. Joe seems to think HE is calling the shot with their relationship with Trump.

Quote

We talk to him whenever we have a need to talk to him.

Oh yeah, I'm sure that's how it is. Is that why Hillary hasn't waddled onto your show, Joe? You don't need to talk to her?

Also bad news for us that want them to shake up the roster of regulars. Sounds like they're perfectly happy as is. And Scarborough talks up The Plagiarist a few times in the interview. Ugh. It seems like he thinks Barnicle is the equivalent of Willie.

As for the elephant in the room, seems that they don't deny it.

I have a question:

What do Mike Barnicle and Willie Geist bring to this show?

Willie seems like a nice enough guy, but shouldn't he be over on the Today show hosting that fluffy 3rd hour talking about whats trending on Twitter, silly animal videos that have gone viral, the latest feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West, and other tween Hollywood gossip?

I have no idea what anyone sees in Willie Geist, the level of smarm I get off him is off the charts.  He was sorta cute with his sidekick thing back when Joe had Scarborough Country - but that was mostly as a poker of fun at all things pop culture.  When he talks about politics it's like fingernails on a chalk board and most days and I want to punch him in the face.

As for Barnicle, my theory now is that Scarborough has a kind of crush on him coming out of his weirdo Kennedy/New England fetish. He aspires to this persona of Barnicle palling around with Ethel Kennedy on the Cape and his seats behind the dugout at Red Sox games with all the beefy Boston backroom hacks.

Otherwise, having a plagiarist on a news show is just pathetic.

As for Willie, I kinda like him. True they treat him as a kid brother but I have found when he's allowed to express opinions, they are well-reasoned (even if I don't agree with them all the time.)

I heard he may be getting groomed to take over Lauer's role on Today, and thought that might be why he's doing more interviewing on MJ. He has taken a bigger role even when the lovebirds are on set.  I remember how good he and Savannah were when they'd host together, back when Mika and Joe were actively trying to keep their shenanigans quiet when they'd both be off.  Everyone was dying for Willie & Savannah to host permanently.

Mika had an honest to God real opinion and then had to walk it back. She didn't think Trump loved America. She was that close to saying he just loved money, did say he loved making deals. It finally dawned on her after all of those painful family dinners growing up, talking about actual policies to improve peoples lives and actions, that Trump didn't have it.

Years ago I sometimes caught snippets of this show but I've been reading this forum (and previously TWOP) for years and enjoying your comments.  Tuesday I actually watched the first hour and today I watched the entire show.  I loved seeing some of the commentators I watched years ago, mostly on other MSNBC shows (Mike Duffy, Chris Clizza, Steve Korrnacki, Ben stein - the only guy missing that I use to love to watch was Ezra Klein but someone did quote him!).   I thought I'd get whiplash from all the guest commentators - why have most of these people on for only 2-3 minutes? I swear some of them only got to say one or two sentences.

I didn't mind Mika.  But Joe gets on my nerves - what a blowheart.  After reading all your comments about how Mika and Joe were in the tank for Trump it was funny (not!) to see Joe seething against him today.  What a blow heart.

I'll probably turn in tomorrow just to hear what they say about Hillary's speech.

HA!. Mika is dressed a bit better today with the checkered shirt. Joe is still wearing his blue fleece.

It's embarrassing.

Joe loved the speeches yesterday. Mika said she didn't remember Cleveland. Joe is calling on GOP leaders to denounce Donald Trump.

Halperin is the only who is skeptical of the effect of Hillary's speech on voters.

The theme today was that the DNC looked like the GOP on National Security issues last night.\

The good news today is that Mika & Joe allowed four African Americans into the pub. They were near the doorway. How is it possible that a show that focuses on "optics" doesn't let the hosts dress properly or have any minorities in the audience? In general, MSNBC attracts a diverse audience.

Agreed. The article basically says we aren't going to discuss it.

It seems obvious to me that by not denying the rumors, that they acknowledge it exists. Mika admits how difficult it was for her family. Her kids must be mortified by her behavior. Dr Z hasn't been on the show in a while. He would probably snap at Joe.

There was a funny moment with Cackles yesterday that made me almost like her. Mika was giving Joe shit about liking chocolate donuts, and we heard Cackles' tiny, hopeful little voice pop up from off camera, "Are we having chocolate donuts?" It was very endearing in an odd way.

Then, of course, she had to go and shit all over Hillary's speech last night and made me remember why I dislike her so.

THANK YOU!!! I could not believe what she said. Thank goodness Schmidt smacked her down.  I think Rachel really wanted to take her to task for it.

She was upset that Hillary didn't court Republicans?  It was the Democratic Convention you ditz!!  Was she supposed to come out and spout some of Paul Ryan's great plans for shutting down Social Security and Medicare?

And I'm sorry but even as a Democrat it sounded pretty inclusive to me.

Do we have to look at Halperin's sour face every morning?

I have to hope Mika's right about George Bush Sr.  He's 92, a proud WWII veteran and spent his life in public service, I can't see how he could ever vote for Trump or waste his vote by not voting or voting for a 3rd party candidate.

Lesser know Bush son, Marvin, has thrown his support to Johnson/Weld but no one cares about him.

I resent Joe's insinuation that the Democrats are veering left because of the presence of the military, the police and religion.

Just because the Republican narrative for the past several years is that they OWN the military, that they are the only supporters of the police and that the Dems are godless heathens, doesn't make it fact. Did Joe sleep through all of the references to progressive policies, or does he just not recognize them when he hears them?

I didn't get to see all of today's show, but I have it on DVR. What I'd really like to hear are the various opinions of Hillary's speech. I can make my own interpretations of where the Democratic party is going. I really want to hear who agrees with Cackles (she was relentless last night), and who, if anyone, liked the speech. Please tell me that I'm going to get some insight from other guests.

She wasn't on this morning that I noticed and I didn't hear anyone mention her comments but from what I could gather, everybody thought it was a great speech.

Slightly off topic Last night on the 1 am version of Hardball, God help me I was still awake,  MIchael Steele tried to start some shit with Joy Reid about the convention and Hillary and he got smacked down pretty fast.  It's like Nicole and he felt like they had to make some shitty comment so as not to get thrown out of the club.

I love Joy Reid SOOO much.

I am not a fan of Nicole Wallace, who I have a hard time taking seriously after she pushed Palin on us, but her opinion on Hillary's speech wasn't that out of step with what other pundits were saying last night. There wasn't a lot of excitement by anyone but Joy Reid for the speech. Even Rachel had a hard time saying anything positive about it and Rachel loves Hillary.  Morning Joe crew pretty much just ignored Hillary's speech because it was such a non-event.

I am enjoying Morning Joe now lately even though I can't stand Joe and Halperin has an irrational hatred of Obama. But, you could almost sense the relief from the entire panel that the Clintons are back in charge of the Dem Party. Obama made them uncomfortable because he didn't play their silly beltway games. The Clintons do.

But, I can't take seeing Joe's ankles and shins any more. Seriously, put some socks on wear longer pants. You are on national tv.

Favorite moment of today's show when Joe says that Trump is so self-involved it is bizarre. For Joe of all people to comment on that is saying something.

Watched the whole show again today. A lot of the same guests as yesterday.

Mika actually said she's voting for Hillary!  Joe remained silent.

Madeline Albright - what a class act - I remember how wonderful she always was on the Daily Show.

The feedback from the other panelists was that Hillary's speech was "workmanlike" and lacked the "soaring rhetoric" of an Obama speech. That was pretty universal.

Nicolle was much more vitriolic. She went after Hillary for way more than not being exciting (being divisive, not reaching out to Republicans, etc.).
