Unpopular Opinions about Music

I don't like Radiohead. It's Thom Yorke's voice. I often think that most of the bands I really like are those with great or interesting singers regardless of the band's overall quality. Mike Patton is my all-time favorite.

Seems like Toto won song of the year with the song "Africa". Of all the wonderful hits Weezer has had, I don't remember any of them being song of the year. Keep pulling that string .

I never liked the Wu Tang Clan.  Although Ol Dirty Bastard was quite a character.

 

If was ironic most kids I went too high school with (suburban and white) loved them.  They used to have Wu Wear clothes as well

From what I remember about the few fans of that band I've encountered over time, yeah, that definitely counts as an unpopular opinion :p. 

I actually would probably agree with you, though :D.

I just borrowed a couple of their cds from a friend.  The first two albums have a bit too much angry screaming for my taste, although there was a point in my life when I would've been into that, but I loved Minutes to Midnight enough to acquire my own copy.

My unpopular opinion: I don't particularly like the Beatles or the Rolling Stones other than some songs here and there.  Give me the Kinks and the Who over them any day.

IMO, Stones only got good after the 90s. Aside the obvious go to songs, I really don't see the appeal of their classic works.

There seems to be a lot of online discourse about Taylor Swift and especially her latest album, with people either loving every second of it and relating to it so much, or tearing it all down and hating on her.

I guess my unpopular opinion is that I just don't care. I liked some of her songs and probably wouldn't recognize most of the others. But to get so popular in today's climate, she must be doing something right, so good for her I guess.

I liked their cover of Take On Me and the video they put out for it. It was the only cover from their album of them that I've never minded hearing more than once. I still can't believe they actually tried covering No Scrubs by TLC.

I liked some of U2's songs in the 90's. Well I liked It's A Beautiful Day which came out in 2000. I've never liked them enough to purchase any of their albums. In the late 90's I started to dislike them and still do. Even though I haven't watched South Park for years I still remember the episode they did about Bono.

U2's best album was War, which came out in 1983 and that period was their best work.  They definitely went downhill after the 80, although there are a few songs here and there that I like.

Meanwhile, I'm over here liking stuff from every single era of U2's work, which feels like an unpopular opinion in and of itself, since so many people often seem to have a preference :p. I got into their music a couple years after All That You Can't Leave Behind came out, so I'm fond of the stuff from the 2000s for that reason, and then so much of their '80s and '90s output is stuff I remember hearing as a kid/teenager, so I like it for that reason, too. 

I know a lot of people wouldn't consider it their best album - it's a pretty divisive one in their catalog - but Pop is genuinely my personal favorite album of theirs.

At the same time though he does have some good songs and his Sirius station isn't half bad either.

I've always hated the ...Baby One More Time album cover. It's too cheesy, too plain, Britney's smile seems forced, and her pose is so awkward and uncomfortable. It looks less like an album cover and more like a half-assed Old Navy ad. 

 

I always wondered why they didn't use something similar to the single cover. It was so much more becoming, IMO.

My guess is it was more attractive to teenage boys at the time.  I knew of some that just bought the album of her because I think it came with a poster of her in it.

 

I would laugh at that but that sort of behavior wasn't beneath me as well.  I just never really sort of digged her.

Besides being a great song the first 30 seconds of this video is one of the most bad ass sequences ever filmed anywhere.

 

The dude drives up with his shades on in a cool looking car.  He gets out of the car says his hellos to the other people in the studio and just gets right down to singing.

 

That is a man with a mission and not about bullshit.  Classic

Me as well.  I still have Christina's Maxim Magazine from 2003 which I think might have been the highest selling issue of that magazine ever.  So yeah I'm not going to judge kids who bought Britney albums for her posters.  Lol

 

At the same time though stan wars are ridiculous and they are still a thing between Xtina and Britney.

 

 

I did not know that about Mayer but I'm not surprised.  He kind of seems like a wanker.  But as I said at the same time I have to admit musically he's talented.

I have a vague remembrance of Earth, Wind and Fire's song Shining Star on a GAP commercial with Sarah Jessica Parker years back.  Ever since then I could not stand that song!

 

I would say this is my fave song of theirs.  But they had their share of other good ones as well.

Not sure how unpopular this is but I like Kenny G's music overall.  

 

It seemed his music used to have a negative vibe associated with it?  I remember in Wayne's World 2 they made fun of his music

Kenny G had some cool songs that were very popular and did quite well in the (Adult Contemporary charts??? Didn't he have one or two Christmas type tunes that get played on the radio  every year around Christmas time? Michael Bolton seemed to be popular around that same couple of years Kenny G. was. Funny how they come and go in the music industry,few stay popular for over 30 or 40 years. Even Madonna who was huge in her day has unfortunately been replaced .

As much as we all love Madonna, I don't know if she still fills 80,000 + stadiums with fans. Seems like someone newer,younger comes along, like Taylor Swift.

Maybe, maybe not. But it is still lucrative for her and others of the same nature as her to tour, as her last tour made about $225.4 million with 1.1 million tickets sold over 80 shows. No, it's not Taylor Swift numbers, but still pretty impressive for someone who has been "replaced".

Probably unpopular to admit this now but 97 and 98 I used to look forward to Puff Daddy’s music videos.  That’s when he was like HUGE.

 

Even some years back I played the Puff Daddy and the family album for pure nostalgic purposes.  
 

But yeah that’s like ruined now
