I caught the "hot topic" of what you wear to fly matters as far as being offered upgrades etc. by the airline gate attendants.  Besides the fact that this would apply to NO ONE at the table who I presume already fly first class, I am here to tell you it's true.

I used to fly A LOT for my work and every time I bothered to do my hair and makeup and put on something not sloppy and there was something to be offered I usually got  it.  Whether it was a seat in first class (if available) or a free ticket for volunteering to take the next the flight or even changing my middle seat to an aisle.   All these things are done at the discretion of the gate staff and if you are pleasant and look nice your odds go waaaaay up.    Now, there were plenty of times I flew in yoga pants and slip on clogs  [any red-eye for example] and was never offered, nor interested in, any extras but there is something to it.

I totally agree.  I usually "dress" to fly & have received many bonuses for doing so.  OTOH, when it was a long flight & I wore my grubbies, not so much.

I am a frequent flyer and I agree, back in the day, how you dressed could make a difference.  That is not the case today. Airlines have changed their policies and gate agents have no ability to upgrade based on how one is dressed or looks.

Hence, I am with Paula, I dress casual, but nice.

One of the first fights I had with my dad, circa 1970, was about dressing up in business attire for a flight (his view) versus dressing in jeans to be comfortable (my view).

I usually dress for maximum coverage in case the plane has a problem, Because I'm a dork. Heavy jeans, long sleeves, sturdy shoes. As much cotton and linen as I can, no polyester. I saw an aviation specialist who said to dress in clothes that would protect you from flames in case you had to get off the plane in a hurry, and for some reason that stuck. My cousin and I are the same age and we both do it, while the older generation sits and laughs at us.

I have friends who work for airlines, and they will upgrade us to first class if they can, but they tell us we better dress like we're going to the most important job interview ever. So we do. ;-)

I'm finding that I'm liking Candace a lot more. Her voice still grates, but she's moved away from only talking about religion and family. The stick that was up her butt seems to have been removed. I noticed a few weeks ago she said she'd vote for Trump, but now she seems to be dissing him. I still don't trust her, but I'm not wanting to throw things at the TV when she's on, either.

As for Whoopi's rudeness to  Paula, isn't Paula a "real" journalist? IDK... whereas CCB has her head up her ass most of the time.

Why is it that only, (or mostly?) women who are deemed "empowered" by posing nude for public consumption? I don't see male comics out there naked and semi naked. Have I missed them? It also seems like when a female athlete gets some level of fame and success, or is super famous (Serena) someone is all ("is all," as the kids say) "Welp time to see her nehkid!" I don't see that being done to men, but maybe I'm out of the loop.

Maybe someone thinks that by using the term/word "empowered," those jittery about seeing a nude woman will have second thougts?

No one called Playboy centerfolds et al or the women in the pulpy girlie magizines "empowered."   As far as I'm concerned, nudity is fine...even (OMG!) bad taste and salacious stuff!

I agree; I don't see how it is empowering and I feel puzzled when I hear that on these shows. Also, I don't think the same is applied to men.  I didn't make my point very well, but you get my drift. :)

Raven and Michele made me sick complaining about money. I'll stop there.

I hate those stupid skirts/dresses CCB wears. [/shallow] They seem a little short too. [/bitchy] But she has a great body. I'll give her that. [/jealous] And she needs a cocktail book to mix a cocktail for herself?

They skated over the police shooting, unsurprisingly. Then Whoopi spends a whole round of hot topics bitching about people cutting in front of her, before pulling out the violin for celebrities in the Kylie Jenner topic.

Thankfully they showed which co-hosts will be at the table tomorrow. Even though it's it'll be all hot topics, I'll be passing.

The wheelchair photo was Jenner is offensive to me. I'm not in a wheelchair, but I agree with the point that Jenner can get up and walk away. Other people have to deal with it everyday and don't have that choice.  But I cannot stand any members of that family, so there's that.

I've started following Paula's twitter feed this week. Someone asked her the other day and she said that she works on GMA on the weekend and takes one day off The View during the week. So, it's understood and that's why Whoopi doesn't bother announcing it. When Raven was off the other day she wasn't announced either.

On twitter Paula wished Miss Whoopi a Happy Birthday on the day. She can be gracious but too bad it can't be returned by the selfish, self absorbed "moderator."

Another thing I saw was Rosie O telling Paula that her son had "beautiful eyes" and wished him well after the accident. Someone gracious thank you very much.

Whoopi can go to hell.

What is it with the full episode of hot topics again. They can't get any celebrities on the show with the Amazing Miss Whoopi. LOL

I must have seen the same aviation specialist, ChicagoCita, and he was very convincing indeed, so I dress accordingly also.  The thought of polyester and/or synthetics burning into my skin isn't one I care to dwell upon.

Raven, you can buy as many shares of Facebook as you want on the stock exchange. Their symbol is FB. Now you can get your"piece of the pie". Good grief, this woman's education is sorely lacking!

I know, right? But unless I misheard, Raven wanted the shares given to her so she wouldn't have to pay since she has paid for ....whatever previously; And since the couple were giving so much to charity, why not give some to Raven. That's how I heard it.

Yes, that's the impression I had, ari333. In the middle of a conversation about the generosity of Mark Zuckerburg and his wife, Raven, who I believe is quite wealthy from her Cosby and Disney projects, spouts some nonsense about wanting some of that Facebook wealth??? Does she ever listen to the ludicrous stuff that comes out of her mouth? And I hate that stupid, rolling eyes expression she gives.

As someone who's permanently disabled, I find it offensive when someone like Jenner uses a wheelchair in that way.  Disgusting !!!!!

Why do these shows continue to lend credence to any of the Kartrashians?  I generally like Ellen Degeneres, but I've stopped watching her because she panders to that awful family of botox and plastic surgery addicts.  I wonder, are A list stars staying away from daytime talk shows?  Does the View and ED have problems booking them and turn to trash celebots?

I saw that segment with Kylie differently. IMO Ellen exposed her as artificial and vacuous - and a talentless fame-seeker just like her mom and sisters. Ellen's take was more like, "C'mon, people, this is not someone you want your daughters emulating." No doubt Joy would do the same if any of them came on the show.

Good know.  I have been out of the travel for work business for about ten years; now my flights are limited to short vacations - like to San Fran or Vegas.  Still, I thought the gate attendants make the upgrade, etc. calls.

As for Whoopi's rudeness to  Paula, isn't Paula a "real" journalist? IDK... whereas CCB has her head up her ass most of the time.

I think Whoopi's dislike for Paula stems from the fact that Paula is smarter than Whoopi.  I don't think Whoopi cares for co-hosts at the table who are smarter and/or more informed than she is, which probably had something to do with liking Sherri and Jenny and disliking Babs.  Nicolle Wallace made up for being smarter by kissing Whoopi's butt and becoming a Whoopett (background).   Perez got the Whoopi rude treatment and of course Whoopi directed the bulk of her bullying behavior towards  RO who is not only smarter and better informed but could actually moderate a talk show.  I don't think it's a coincidence that Whoopi speaks so highly of Raven or lobbied to have her join the show.   Heh.

I must have seen the same aviation specialist, ChicagoCita, and he was very convincing indeed, so I dress accordingly also.

Same here.  It was an Oprah show.  No pantyhose ever on a plane for that reason.  I swear I learned so many things on that show that stick with me to this day, unlike The Spew where I try to forget it as soon as I see it, lol.

ETA: ChicagoCita I love your entire post.  Sounds like another important event got The Spew treatment. It makes my blood boil just reading the recap.   Gah, this show!

Whoopi expects to be treated like royalty. Nicolle did just that and kissed up big time. Paula will not, thank goodness. (And I think she has the backing of the behind the scenes people with that approach.) Raven is no Sherri and she's not going to back down and defer to Whoopi. Joy is not the least bit intimidated by Whoopi and will call her out when necessary. Michelle and CCB seem superfluous. Even though there's a better balance on the panel, it doesn't negate the fact that Whoopi is a terrible moderator. Never should have been hired in the first place.

Did I hear correctly or has my brain finally turned to grape jelly? Whoopi is saying the Kardasians work

their butts off like she does? When she got into the business she did not sign up for the photographers up

her ass? Is that family actors, singers, politicians or talk show hosts that have the inconvenience of\ being hounded by the media? Their only 'Work" is getting in the limelight on camera as much as humanly

possible. Spare me your wisdom.

Most importantly, do not take off your shoes for take off or landing, just in case.  And don't wear heels.  I see so many women dressed to kill, but not dressed for just in case a plane goes down.

True story, a colleague of mine was EA to the Minister in our provincial gov't.  They were on a helicopter that was taking them to a northern community and then back, in the winter.   She was a wearing suit (skirt and jacket) and heels, no coat.  The heli crash landed on a frozen lake and there she was in heels with no warmth whatsoever.  Luckily, they were rescued after a couple of hours.  I have never forgotten that story and now dress reasonably comfortablly and with shoes that can get me through a crash, if it happens.

No, your brain's fine. The Kardashians acquired the Whoopi Insurance Policy when Whoopi joined reality television; that's the only reason we got the spiel about how hard they work and how they earned every dollar.

Paula's degree is in Broadcasting, the bastardized teleprompter-based form of journalism offered at many community colleges and on the pageant circuit.  I do like that she is fearless.  I suspect Whoopi's distaste for her is based in the traditional views she regularly cites (and seemingly lives):  boys are tough and dangerous, girls are girly girly and should be coddled, the wife submits to husband, marital sex is god's blessing). Pretty much everything a lefty loathes.

The show has a rotation of hosts. I don't think we should expect any explanation for any absence.  For three months, they didn't mention CCB. Now that Fuller House is all filmed, CCB has to fulfill her View contract.  That means one of the non-Whoopis is gonna be absent.  Based on what Sherri tweeted ages ago, she has a 50-episode contract, so it seems likely that Padma and Stacy also have similar deals

So Michelle mentioned her mother is Judy Collins like it should mean something.  I googled and can find nothing, who is she?  I know she is not the singer.

It was yet another misfired joke attempt.  I'm sure that back in the 80s, when the general public knew of Judy Collins, the Collins family had that "inside joke".

Another thing that made me stabby today was CCB saying, in response to Joy's reminder that abortion is legal in this country, that she doesn't like her tax dollars going towards abortions performed by Planned Parenthood.

It is well-documented that federal money cannot go towards abortions except in a very few cases (rape, incest, the health of the mother is in jeopardy). That's the law.  (A few states allow state Medicaid funding for abortion, but that's only 17 of the 50.)  Those are facts. Check the Hyde Amendment and many other laws.  Joy said as much.

CCB responded, "Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this."

NO. NO. NO. There is no reason to "agree to disagree." Your beloved conservative politicians ensured that the vast majority of abortions cannot be paid for with federal funding. There is nothing to disagree about here. It is the truth. It's like some idiot baseball player said he disagreed with the "homosexual lifestyle." There is nothing to disagree with. It's like saying you disagree with the color orange, or the existence of coyotes, or snow. It exists. It is a fact. It is indisputable.

Gah, these people who invent controversy out of thin air because something doesn't fit into their neat little closed minds drive me INSANE.

Well god help me for liking Whoopi's retort to CCB when CCB commented (incorrectly) about her tax dollars going to abortion.  Whoopi said that she  doesn't want her tax dollars going to war and everyone has something they dont' want their tax dollars going to. Even though CCB was just plain wrong in the first place about funding.

Did this bitch really just clap her hands and DEMAND that Paula listen to her?

Oh Whoopi.  This season can't end fast enough for me.

WOW. JUST WOW. That was completely disgusting. Paula cannot finish a story or even a sentence or even choose her own gift for what she wants for Christmas.

WOW. That was beyond her usual detestable behavior toward Paula.

Raven also makes me sick with the, "Yo need to clean yo house. Here's a broom and dustpan as a gift.". And then there's the, "give me paper towels as a gift so I dont' have to pay for them." What a cheap ass bitch. How about toilet paper and tampons too while you're at it? Make shur they're wrapped real purdy so Raven can save the paper and reuse it bc she doesn't want to pay for it. (Ok reusing wrapping paper is a good thing.)

Does Paula have a twitter account? Whoopi's tirade against her was totally uncalled for and it'd be interesting to get Paula's perspective. I don't think it's a difference in politics or training. I think it goes deeper. Whoopi really, really does not like Paula for some reason and it shows. Is it because Paula doesn't kiss her butt like Nicolle did? That Paula replaced Nicolle? Whoopi's acting like a spoiled brat.

THIS! Yes, I noticed it before with Whoopi toward Paula, but today really took the cake, didn't it? WOW. As much as Whoopi does terrible things, I was kind of shocked.... the clapping of the hands, the screaming, the tone, the "bitch."

I don't have twitter, but I'd be curious if there is any backlash if you guys find out anything. (Does it go in small talk thread? IDK)

Whoopi really owes Paula an apology. In addition to the uncalled for tirade, Whoopi interrupted her too didn't she? Paula cant even talk about choosing her own gift without getting slammed by Whoopi. That is super rude in person, but to do it in public AND on tv is beyond the pale.

I can't wait for Paula to snap at Whoopi one day. Whoopi was way over the top with her retort to Paula's gift idea. Every time Paula has something to say, Whoopi has a comeback. Like shut up. Whoopi has to have the last word on every thing. If she disagrees with someone, she goes on a long diatribe about her opinion and if she agrees, she has to give her final stamp of approval. She needs to go. I am sick of her acting like a queen or dictator. Yes, she gives good advice and commentary(sparingly) but the bad far outweighs the good. Enough.

I needed to take a break from the news and decided to check in on the show.   I was hoping they would be chatting about some pleasant topic and it would take my mind off things ...

I tuned in just in time to hear Whoopi Goldberg calling Paula "bitch" and clapping and shouting her down so she could lecture her about what being a mother is all about.  I still can't believe my ears.

Whoopi obviously hates Paula.  That has become painfully obvious.  And I know there are various theories about why she doesn't like her.  But what I personally want to know is why Whoopi feels so comfortable showing how much she hates Paula.  It is so unprofessional.  And rude.  Why is Whoopi allowed to get away with this behavior?  Doesn't someone among the showrunners find her behavior unacceptable? Can't anyone there control her at all?

The whole thing makes me so uncomfortable as a viewer.  The impatience and contempt that has become Whoopi's standard operating procedure toward Paula is actually upsetting to me.   That kind of treatment is not something I would stand idly by and watch happen to another woman in real life, and I don't like it any better on my TV set.  It really bothered me that no one at the table seemed to support Paula at all when Whoopi went at her.  And it pained me when Paula made light of it and acted like she was amused by Whoopi's rant.  There was nothing amusing about it.

Man, I still can't believe Whoopi talked to her like that.  Who the hell does she thinks she is?

ETA:

She sure is, Paula is no dummy, everytime WG goes off or does something inappropriate a little angel gets its wings and Paula gets one step closer to the moderator chair.

I hope you're right!
