Yes I know L&O ended with the cancer going into remission

I wonder, if there had been a 21st season, if the cancer would have gone into remission, since the actress had been planning on leaving the series at the end of the 20th?

Scott Caan has his arm in a brace in the most recent ep (the split personality). Did I miss seeing this before? Was it a plot point on the show? Maybe I missed something.....

Scott also had the brace on in the Halloween ep. He goes over to Steve's wearing 1 of those rubber masks you wear on your whole head, trying to surprise him. Only Junior answers the door; he's watching the dog, Eddie, & has been staying at Steve's for maybe a week or so. After Junior tells Danny Steve's on the North Shore, escorting Alicia (the ex-FBI profiler who was introduced in a recurring role last season) to court, Danny grumbles about wasting $75 on the mask since Steve's not there; then he & Junior make a little small talk, including about the brace on Danny's/Scott's arm. Danny tells Junior he fell off a very cheap ladder, which Steve bought because he's cheap; if Steve had bought a better/more expensive ladder, Danny claims he wouldn't have fallen & injured his arm. He apparently fell while doing renovations at the site where their restaurant will be.

The injury seems to be a real-life injury Scott suffered too, that couldn't have avoided being written in; but (unlike with Scott's S1 knee injury) nothing has ever been said about it in the media, as to what happened, when did it happen, how did it happen, etc.

Thanks, I did see that ep but didn't remember the brace. Obviously it's a real life injury, but I wish they would have carried the gag that "it was Steve's fault" into this episode since it's a pretty obvious brace.

LOL, I remember Caan's leg injury, early in season 1! So long ago!

From cartermatt.com: Where is "Criminal Minds"' Matthew Gray Gubler? What about Aisha Tyler?

It appears our show isn't the only 1 with a fairly major cast member mysteriously disappearing from an episode here & there, & then returning with little to nothing said about the character's absence afterwards...

According to the linked article, it's apparently been happening on Criminal Minds too, with the characters played by Matthew Gray Gubler (Dr. Spencer Reid) & Aisha Tyler (Dr. Tara Lewis) apparently being those who are unexpectedly (at least to the fans/viewers) missing from time to time & then back the next episode with little to no explanation of why they were gone (although the linked column seems, to me, to say that at least the CM writers bother, more often than not, to write in absence excuses for their characters when necessary).

The linked article talks about why this happens with some actors/characters & uses Scott's periodic absences from H50 as another example.

Scott Caan, as Danny, did say the reason for why Danny hurt his arm was Steve's fault.

Like I said, Danny went over to Steve's on (or somewhere near) Halloween, to try & scare Steve with a full head mask he'd bought somewhere, apparently for $75. Only Steve wasn't there because he was escorting the ex-FBI profiler, Alicia Brown, to a court date on the North Shore, & Junior & Eddie the dog, who are both staying with Steve, were home (& Junior was sort of "arguing" with Eddie as to whose fault it was that Eddie had gone to the restroom on Steve's carpet & not outside like he should've: Was it Junior's fault for getting busy & not getting Eddie out quick enough, or Eddie's fault for not waiting/not being able to wait until Junior could let him out?).

Danny hangs around for a couple of minutes making small talk with Junior, trying to get to know him since they haven't really met yet, & Junior brings up the subject of Danny's hurt arm. Danny says he hurt it by falling off of a cheap ladder Steve bought for them to use during the renovations on their upcoming restaurant; if Steve hadn't bought such a bad ladder, & had bought a better 1 instead, then Danny says he wouldn't have fallen & hurt his arm (so Danny said it was Steve's fault because of the kind of ladder he bought to use while they were fixing up the new restaurant space).

THANK YOU!

Next time someone bitched abt Scott's contract, I was going to bring up MGG, who has it written in his contract, that he gets to take ALL OF OCTOBER off.

And yet the CM fans don't whine & moan abt it.  They generally seem happy for him, that he was able to get that.  And MGG was less well known (and probably still is) than Scott.

You're welcome. If you want to, & you can figure out how, bookmark the link to the post--actually just linking to the Matt Carter column, rather than the whole post, might be easier--so you can use it to explain to either H50 fans why Scott's gone about 4-5 eps a season, or why Matthew's not in the CM eps that either film or air in October (it wasn't clear, to me, if you meant he's not in eps airing in October & filmed earlier or if he's not in the eps that are filmed in October but aired later in the year).

I'm glad MGG's fans take his absences well; I know Danny/Scott--& his "chemistry" with Steve/Alex--is considered a big part of H50's success, but I wish at least some H50 fans could be just as glad for Scott that he was able to get the kind of contract he has (especially since he became a father); maybe they would be if they really knew filming a TV show for about 8-9 months a year really isn't as glamorous, or easy, as a lot of fans seem to think.

I haven't regularly watched CM in so long that I didn't know MGG apparently had a similar negotiated time off deal to Scott's (not for nothing, but I also read in an interview Tom Selleck did for 1 of his Jesse Stone movies, that was done since Blue Bloods started, that he apparently only is on the BB set in NYC filming his parts, like, every 2 weeks). I watch the CM repeats on cable sometimes though; especially when the eps with Alex as the unsub or when Foyet finds Haley & Jack Hotchner in Witness Protection, gets them to come out of hiding, & kills Haley are on.

Considering CM started before H50 did, I may not necessarily agree that MGG's less well-known than Scott. Plus, I think Scott may have been working back sometime towards the beginning of CM in at least 1 of the creative media he works in (acting, screenwriting, playwrighting, directing, rap music, & photography... Did I forget any?); so people who are "into" any of those media might've known who Scott was, while anyone who follows any media type he wasn't into yet probably wouldn't have known him. Of course, we have to consider that even as far back as the beginning of CM, Scott may have already at least been known as legendary actor James Caan's son (or 1 of his 4 sons, & 5 children overall).

There's also another difference between Scott & MGG (that we know of): Scott has a 3 1/3 year old daughter who, as far as we know, doesn't live with Scott (at least not full time) & her existence/visitation &/or custody rights is perhaps a big reason why Scott has the kind of work schedule he does on H50 now; MGG has no kids that we know of.

I can be glad that Scott has the contract he does, but still be upset that DDK is "too expensive" for a full-time gig.

From VarietyDaniel Dae Kim and Grace Park Among 16th Annual Unforgettable Gala Honorees

According to the article, this is the longest running celebration of Asian-American trailblazers in the entertainment industry. Daniel & Grace will be recognized for exemplifying the "devotion and the spirit of 'The Ultimate Drive' in their careers" with presenting sponsor BMW's Ultimate Drive Award. The gala will take place December 9th in Los Angeles.

Way back in October, I posted the above. The awards gala, with DDK & Grace Park among the honorees, was held over the weekend. DDK & Grace spoke to ET Canada (which seems to be the only ET version still interested in covering the show), about their departures from the show. Looks like the 1 who said he wanted to stay maybe didn't want to, as much as he said he did.

DDK and Grace Park Speak to ET Canada About Leaving H50

I think I'm disappointed; but I support their rights to leave the show if they thought it was best.

I still haven't seen any details yet, but the Twitter feeds for at least showrunner Peter Lenkov & 1 of the show's fansites, H50hana, say that Sgt. Stephen Jackel, who was 1 of the real-life war veterans with various types of postwar issues recruited by McGarrett to assist with the capture of a band of not-so-merry-gentlemen at a local Honolulu mall, has apparently died at some recent point since the episode aired (but no further details are available at this time).

The episode featuring Sgt. Jackel & the other real-life turned fictional vets was this season's Christmas episode, 1 of 2 H50 eps aired on CBS on Friday, December 15th; it aired at the show's regularly scheduled airtime of 10PM Eastern/9PM Central. If you saw the ep, Sgt. Jackel played the war vet named Henry, who was a (real life) war-related amputee & apparently the munitions expert among the fictional vets McGarrett recruited to help with Five-0's investigation. Sgt. Jackel apparently leaves behind a wife & 6 children.

Should anyone be so inclined, a gofundme account has been started to help the Sgt's family (Alex O'Loughlin, Peter Lenkov, & others connected to H50 have already contributed). Details can be found, I think, through either Tweet I linked above.

From EW.com/Entertainment Weekly'Hawaii Five-0' Adds Another New Character in Season 8

In the picture used, yes Christine Ko, the new recurring cast member, looks coincidentally somewhat like a younger Grace Park/Kono (but older than when we initially saw Kono at another age in an ep, as played by young actress Miya Cech in the ep where Kono tries to complete a solo outrigger trip from O'ahu to Molokaʻi in honor of her mother, whose health failed before she could make the trip). But apparently it's just that pic & in most others the actress doesn't bear that much of a resemblance to Kono/Grace Park.

Further info from this website  indicates that Sgt. Jackel apparently committed suicide yesterday (Thursday) or sometime slightly before then; definitely in the last 24-48 hours.

Good to hear abt the ratings.  They’ve been up all season.  I think last night’s were so high because of the weather on the east coast, tho.

And too bad the ridiculousness that is fake-MacGyver is up, too.

I'm trying to remember where I saw the pics earlier, so I can look for a link, & it's not happening (too late at night/early in the morning probably). Anyway, they're currently filming Ep 818. Alex is apparently directing it (so if he/Steve isn't in a lotta Ep  817, the fact a director preps for filming a week ahead probably accounts for it--like when DDK directed the Stakeout episode, a few seasons ago, he also prepped for filming the week before. Jimmy Buffett makes another appearance as his recurring character, Frank Bama. Once I find the pics again, I'll link them.

Well, she has a bigger chest (at least in that pic) than Grace Park does, anyway.

Grace Park is so skinny that in my opinion the best she has looked was wearing a pressure suit as a Colonial Raptor pilot.  Back when the show was in production Maxim magazine had a pictorial with her and Tricia Helfer/6. I couldn't help but think without the TV star and current show celebrity neither woman would have been chosen for a Maxim pictorial.

Crazy News!! A ballistic Missel threat alert was sent In Error to the people of Hawaii.  Apparently, it was a false alarm but they didn’t know that until a half hour later. That’s pretty crazy. It sounds like something H50 would do as a storyline. For all I know they might have. Hopefully, everything has calmed down over there and the people can rest easier for the rest of the day. Whew!!,

Just wait.  It’ll show up next season in a storyline.

Didn’t they already do a storyline with a false tsunami warning?   I don’t remember why it was set off, but I remember Danny sending Grace off with Kamekona to his family’s home up on high ground.

They did back in an early season. It was a remake of an episode from the original series, but the reason for the fake warning was different. In the original series, Wo Fat engineered the fake warning as a distraction so that he could kidnap a scientist; in the current series, computer hackers created the false warning to cover a break-in of the HPD evidence room.

And in yesterday's Mistake (this is how HNN was describing it Saturday, which is my only direct contact to the islands), someone fat-fingered an "Are You Sure?" screen.  All of which arose from what seem to be really stupid practices for shift-change.  I used to have a job task which was basically nagging people to use good business processes that provide safeguards against this sort of nonsense - people tend to prefer the silly rituals that evolve, right up to the point they catastrophically break down, embarrass the hell out of management, and lead to the sacking of the most convenient scapegoat.

Also, I am amazed and dismayed by the number of people who just ran around in a panic, especially the guy who checked out of his hotel, and uber'd to the airport, expecting to get on the next plane out.

Of course I grew up in the Cold War (under the permanently potential shadow of a mushroom cloud); I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis (I was six), and I remember knowing then that the school safety practices (file out into the hall, get down on our knees against the wall, put our heads down and cover them with our hands) were ridiculous.  (It turned out to be useful advice for tornado warnings, however.)  And now Hawaii can see just how fatuous the assumptions have been, and fix them.

It was actually only 38 minutes until it was declared a false alarm, but your point is understood. DDK posted about it on his Twitter (at least) twice.

There have been other nuclear attack false alarms as well. The most recent, which would've struck somewhere on the Continental US, was in 1983. Thankfully, our then-Soviet counterparts understood that the missile launch announcement was, as with Saturday's incident, a false alarm. Our counterparts on the other side, also thankfully, refused to send their missiles our way--I think the article said they risked their jobs by that act--& nuclear catastrophe was averted.

Yes they did, back in S1. It was filmed as Ep 115, but I think it aired as 114. It was titled Kai eʻe (Tidal Wave) & CBS aired it in different time slot than usual. Back then, we were airing Monday nights at 10PM Eastern/9PM Central. CBS aired this ep on Sunday, January 23rd, 2011, following their broadcast of the NFL's AFC Championship game (1 of the 2 each season--the other's the NFL's NFC Championship game, which usually airs on Fox--which determines the teams who play in that season's Super Bowl).

It was set off so some retired cops (or military) who were involved in a big HPD bust involving drugs & money (subsequently held in the HPD Assets Forfeiture Locker), but who felt they were cheated out of credit for participating in the bust, and cheated out of their part of whatever reward was given to find the perpetrators, would have unfettered time with & access to the Locker (what with everyone except essential personnel--which they were described as--evacuating to higher ground) & they could take as much or as little as they felt they were due.

They kidnaped, like, the Director of the Tsunami Warning Center (there's a little more to their official name than that), to create invalid tracking data & other information about the alleged tsunami; they also anonymously hired a single mother computer hacker to post the inaccurate data to the internet, by overriding the legitimate signals/information sent out by by the Tsunami Warning Center. And then Five-0 finally figured out the plan & busted everyone involved. Danny had custody of Grace while Stan & Rachel were out of town somewhere. The schools were dismissed early because of the tsunami & Danny made arrangements with Kamekona, whom he was beginning to learn to trust, so that Gracie could stay with Kamekona & his family during the alert since they lived in an area of higher ground which wasn't so susceptible to devastating damage from the alleged tsunami.

A scientist who worked at/was the Director of the Tsunami Warning Center was kidnaped in the sort of remake too (but not by Wo Fat, as I remember), so as to create the false warning/tracking data which a single mom computer hacker would then replace the accurate info with, by hacking into the Tsunami Warning Center's website. The distraction this time was to have Honolulu cleared out to higher ground because of the impending tsunami, while the rescue/cleanup personnel (which the bad guys were posing as) stayed in town to begin the cleanup as soon as possible (but the bad guys were only interested in cleaning up/out the HPD Asset Forfeiture Locker of what they thought they were due for helping with the big drug bust).

Yeah as really think that it had to scare those people. And really now that person at least acknowledged he made a mistake. Will keep his job but will be reassigned. And in the process two people will be assigned to his old job.  And really tourists and people who live there say they thought it was that. And glad it was a false alarm. But makes you wonder what would happen if it were for real?!

Earlier today various media outlets, including CNN, reported that Japanese TV broadcast its own false alarm, over their smartphone app (just like what happened here in the US), about an allegedly incoming missile aimed at Japan from North Korea
