twoods December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 (edited) How is it fair that a defensive guy gets called for a face mask but an offensive player can stiff arm his hand in a defensive player's face mask and not get called? The offense gets treated like precious glass- drives me nuts. With that said, no excuse for that touchdown. Man, I hate the Packers. I can never have anything nice. Yup, the Packers' Richard Rodgers' dad was the Richard Rodgers mentioned twice here in The Play in 1982. Also fun fact: The Packers' Richard Rodgers' Cal teammate, C.J. Anderson, scored the game-winning TD in overtime for the Broncos on Sunday to beat the Patriots. Another fun fact: The Packers' Rodgers' dad is currently assistant defensive backs coach for the Carolina Panthers. Ron Rivera was his teammate on that famous Cal The Play team. (Also, if you didn't know, The Play was John Elway's final game at Stanford.) Edited December 4, 2015 by nowandlater Link to comment
FuriousStyles December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 I just want to know from a defense standpoint on a hail mary, are players taught to defend their guy (like on most other plays) or just try to get to the ball and bat it down? Because it seems like the Lions defenders had no idea what the hell they were doing on that final play. Link to comment
benteen December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 The end of that game showed by one team is the Green Bay Packers and one team is the Detroit Lions. I say this in college football when say, a team like Akron blows a lead against a team like Michigan. I had a feeling the Lions would blow this game when they had to settle for a field goal to make 20-0 instead of 24-0. That's the way the NFL is now. You can't allow the other team any time at the end. 1 Link to comment
xaxat December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 During a game it doesn't matter if his team is good or bad, winning or losing, Jim Caldwell always has a "What the Hell just happened?" look on his face. Although last night it was justified. 2 Link to comment
mojoween December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 Golic started Mike & Mike this morning saying that he turned off the game at halftime. I wonder if other people did too? I watched the whole game because it didn't seem like it was out of hand because a. it's Aaron Rodgers and b. it's the Lions. Even without the last play it was an interesting second half. I mean, it's not like it was in-his-prime Peyton Manning against the Raiders where 17-0 would be 30-0 after the third. Link to comment
merylinkid December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 Apparently Caldwell admitted the Lions didn't expect a Hail Mary on the last play. What other play would the Packers have run? They weren't in field goal range even after the penalty. It was an untimed, one play to end the game. There is no other play to run. 5 Link to comment

DrSpaceman73 December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 The facemask penalty last night I thought was obvious. At this point I think the sports radio guys are just nitpicking and looking for reasons to complain about the refs. I heard 3 or 4 of them arguing over it. He hit his facemask, his helmet almost came off, its a penalty. Herm Edwards for once this morning had good commentary on ESPN about how the Lions screwed up the hail Mary. He pointed out 1. Calvin Johnson, the biggest guy and highest jumper for the Lions, should have been out there on that play as a defender. Many teams use WRs in those situations as defenders 2. Detroit needed to rush 4 and CANNOT left Rodgers roll out of the pocket to the right. A right handed QB, if he rolls out, you force him left, it makes the throw harder. As soon as Rodgers got away and rolled right and had that 10 yard run up to the throw, I knew it had a chance 3. Richard Rodgers was UNCOVERED! You have to keep someone on him. Actually Golic pointed out apparently a LB was on him downfield and then let him go as the throw was made, which is stupid A similar play happened end of half for Colts vs. the Texans. The problem in both as well was all the defenders were BEHIND the WRs, forcing them to have to try and jump up or over to make a play. Some of the defenders have to get in front. The two plays looked so similar I wonder if the offenses somehow are now making adjustments to wall off the defenders toward the back like this. Both times it was a wall of defenders in back, WRs in front and then a free go a big up further to the front makes the catch, no defender can get to him. 1 Link to comment

merylinkid December 4, 2015 Share December 4, 2015 Besides not being prepared for the Hail Mary, just let me point out it should never have come to that. Or whether it was a facemask or not. The Lions had the chance to put the game away and they didn't. I don't know if they started to play not ot lose, the Packers adjusted at halftime or what, but the Lions should have played better throughout the other 59 minutes of the game and then it doesn't come down to the last minute of the game. 1 Link to comment

Swift has been touring for 8 months, and she's ending her tour in a week or so in Australia. That wouldn't give her enough time to plan. Give the president and his team some credit. They are media savvy. They know Sunday Night Foootball is the No. 1 show and that it'll piss off Americans if he disrupted the game or any game. That's why it was announced yesterday that it would be taking place at 8 pm ET, when no game was going on, and it was also announced that it would be 15 minutes. ------------------------------------ Re: Red Zone channel (On Sunday Ticket): I usually watch that as a last resort, if there are no compelling games on. A few things annoy me about Red Zone: --It's basically glorified replays. Yes, they show a lot of stuff live. But they also miss a lot of stuff, and they have to show the replays. It can also get really annoying, like when Marcus Mariotta had like an 85-yard TD run, Andrew Siciliano was out of breath. Going crazy. But they only showed the aftermath. Finally, they showed the replay of it, but it was from the perspective of the goal line. --They linger on too many shitty teams. They spend way too much time on Jaguars games. --They linger too much on blowouts when there are more compelling games out there...that aren't in the red zone. Today, for instance, there were a lot of close games. But there was too much focus on the blowout games. Once a game is a blowout, it should be dropped from the rotation. --The problem is it's too fantasy-focused. See previous point. ------------------------------------ I missed the Patriots game due to DVR troubles. I was too busy watching America's Game of the Week, which was great. ------------------------------------ Yes, today is Pearl Harbor Day. And, on the one hand, it was great for Fox NFL Sunday to salute the past. The problem is that Fox NFL Sunday spends way too much of the season saluting the troops that it seems like it's a cheap ratings ploy. It's like they're wearing the military as a fashion statement. (Jay Glazer is the most annoying in this regard.) They do it so much that it makes today feel less special. 2 Link to comment

And tomorrow I believe is the acutal Pearl Harbor Day, but close enough About what I expetced from the Colts with a back up QB, no pass rush and poor DBs against the Steelers. Jx223 December 7, 2015 Share December 7, 2015 (edited) I am happy to see Carolina continue their winning streak. I think that Cam should be MVP this year. Antonio Brown is so fun to watch. Now if he can stay off of TMZ.... I don't think that Johnny is doing anyone any good sitting on the bench. I understand that the Browns wanted to punish him, but if they are going to keep him until at least the season is over, I think it's best to play him. He's been benched for a couple of weeks now and I think he got pretty embarrassed on the MNF telecast. He was bashed and dragged more than Greg Hardy was during a telecast. The Browns have suffered some incredibly embarrassing losses the past couple of weeks without him. I mean Austin Davis seems like a nice guy, but I don't think he's the long term answer for the Browns at the starter position. Might as well play Johnny. Maybe they will decide to keep him or he'll show something and someone will be willing to trade for him. Or they can just release him. (It was reported that some teams are interested in him). And the Browns can start all over again. Edited December 7, 2015 by Jx223 Link to comment

Stupid ass Pats fans for booing their team- they are 10-2 with a bunch of second and third stringers and just won the SB. Please shut the hell up. And I don't think Browns fans will like comparing their lifetime of pain to a 10-2 Pats team. Doesn't come close. I was rooting for the Panthers to lose, but damn it that Newton is just tearing it up. He got nailed at the 1, but then threw a great pass for a TD. Those passes are perfect, and I'm calling that Ginn will drop a few critical passes in the playoffs that will hose them. And good for him to give the ball to a girl in the stands. Bills will lose out the rest of the season just because- they are always so close to the playoffs but choke down the line. Poor Gould- shanking that 34 yarder and pretty much losing the game. 4 Link to comment

And spoiled Patriots fans spit their dummies out after two defeats? Ugh. Still, all the drops and fumbles they're having this season are interesting. You know, considering those deflated footballs they didn't have were of no advantage to things like catching and holding onto the football......
