Small Talk: We'll Be Right Back

Not to intimate that this is going on here, but as grocers replace sticky tags on the shelf with electronic tags it is certainly possible.

https://www.supermarketnews.com/grocery-technology/is-dynamic-pricing-feasible-within-supermarkets-

I worked enough retail to be excited for these electronic tags for the employees. Putting up permanent shelf tags plus weekly sales tags flat out sucks. Hours every week devoted to taking down old ad tags and putting up new ones, bending down repeatedly to get to the lower shelves or reaching up to get the higher ones, and then someone forgets a tag and a customer pitches a fit at the register because the item rang up "wrong." I could go on.

Dynamic pricing may be possible with electronic tags, but that is not why retailers are interested in them. It's really so they can cut labor costs by not having employees putting up tags every week.

I know I don’t post here much, but my mom has been hospitalized(low blood sugar, heart issues, and possible dementia $, so any good thoughts and prayers would be appreciated.  Thanks!

The actor in the Kohl's commercial is Ellie Kemper. I recognize her from The Office.  While I think the commercial is amusing, it would never tempt me to go into a Kohl's again. The 2 times I've been to a Kohl's, I found it to be crammed with disorganized stuff and I was unable to navigate the store to find anything.

depends on the store. there are 2 in my area and one is always well laid out and the other makes no sense at all

All of the Kohl's near us got rid of dressing rooms in the various sections, and now you must go to the central large one. It's very inconvenient and a pain in the neck. From some of the sections, it's quite a hike to the dressing room now. Their clothes are so cheap now also.

The one near me is actually well-organized and not crammed.  It just doesn't have what I'm looking for most of the time now.

The few Kohl's near me are trying really hard to bring themselves back to where they used to be before the pandemic. Their new CEO is trying to undo the failing policies of the former one, like putting out more clothes and bringing back styles and types of clothing they had scaled back, like petites. And changing back to some of the better return and coupon policies too. The coupons were getting so restrictive they were hardly good on anything anymore.

Agreed, same near me. They are trying to run the stores with fewer and fewer employees to cut costs, which is why they never reopened most of the dressing rooms after the pandemic. But that only turns off customers. I also read that all clothing manufacturers are using cheaper fabrics now as prices go up to keep their prices down. Clothing retail is in trouble now and with all the stupidity going on in government and business these days no one is doing anything about it. In fact everything going on is only making it worse. If it keeps going in this direction in ten years we won't have any women's clothing stores left. And it won't be much better online either.

Were they ever not?  I tried Kohl's once, back in the day when it moved into a space that had been previously occupied by Mervyn's -- another low-cost option, but a better one -- and the quality sucked.

It's even worse now. I used to buy button down shirts there that lasted and didn't wrinkle. Now the fabric is so cheap you can practically see through it and it wrinkles like crazy.

Even Macy's has cheapened their fabrics. I have tops in "designer" brands that have been made for years in the same style. The newer ones are thinner with fewer details while the older ones are thicker and better made.

Speaking of retail clothing stores closing, so many have closed in my area (including two Macy's in other areas within driving distance) that the Macy's near me is one of the ONLY stores that sells prom dresses now. This has resulted in a weekend stampede of young women and long lines outside fitting rooms. The Kohl's near me has dedicated part of the activewear department to prom dresses now as a result too. Proof that buying everything online is generally not wanted nor a solution. If something isn't done soon we won't have Kohl's or Macy's left. Macy's keeps closing stores too and Kohl's stock just fell over 22% in one week thanks to what's going on in the stock market. Our "elected officials" better do something soon.

The 2 different Kohl's I went into were the same - a disorganized crammed mess. I have no desire to ever go into a Kohl's again.

Kohl's makes me so stressed out. I only go there to purchase underwear. I used to go to buy clothes for my house-bound mother and found it a horrible experience, trying to pick through overstuffed racks, summer clothes, winter clothes, no rhyme or reason. I hated it. But Mom needs clothes, you know? And I should say that I did find some of her absolute favorite items there. So it's not the stock, it's the stocking, if you know what I mean. 🤷🏼

Have you ever eaten at Applebee's? 😜

I don't mind Arby's (esp. since they brought back their potato cakes), but we used to have an Applebee's next to where I work and every time we went there they screwed up our orders.

I've ordered from both through Doordash. My dad loves the ribs at Applebees and most of the sandwiches at Arbys. But I haven't stepped inside either for years.

Arby's is a popular target, but the beef and cheddar with horsey sauce is good, and their special sandwiches, like the fish on King's Hawaiian buns is good, along with their mint chocolate shake and Dreamsicle shake.  And the potato cakes! 😜

I like Arby's crinkle fries.

Yes, I prefer crinkle fries to curly fries, but always go with potato cakes now that they brought them back (Don't know why they dropped them.  They were a unique product other fast food places don't have, like Popeye's Cajun rice -which Popeye's also got rid of).
