Sweet Fellowship: Duggars and Friends (aka the Bates Family and Other Featured Families Thread)

Message added by Scarlett45

If a person/family was never featured on any of the Duggar shows, and is not related to the Duggar family by blood or marriage, they do not need to be discussed here..

We may all agree that David Rodriques is quite unfortunate looking, but let's refrain from comparing human beings to apes, its got way too much of a loaded history- please review the new Inclusion Policy updated May 1, 2022 , which details guidelines around discussing body type, capabilities, physical appearance etc. Additionally, using body size as an insult is not allowed.

Remember the ghastly purple cakes at Nurie's bridal shower and wedding too (I think)? While the cakes came from the now-forgotten Dinguii, Jill probably keeps a big bottle of Nurie's favorite purple food dye in her pantry in case Princess Nurie comes to visit and wants a purple dessert.

Nurie was the 1st place winner in the grape pie contest a few years back.🙂

There are actual newspaper ads from the 1890's that advertise tape worms as a way to lose weight.  I guess worms are better than, say, Lydia Pinkham, which caused many, many women to become alcoholics, or Baby Percy, which was a tonic to put on a baby's gums to soothe teething pain.  My guess is the baby was quiet because of the opium content.  I think Plexus is today's "patent medicine" without the worms, alcohol, or opium.  It promises a lot of "cures, just like old time products.

The good old days when frantic mothers could use opium and liquor to quiet screaming babies.  And you can’t forget “Mothers Little Helpers”

I think you can still get them somewhere despite them being illegal.

The difference is the worms did help you lose weight and the opium did soothe teething pain, while Plexus does nothing but take your money and poison you slowly.

Capsules with tape worm eggs are available on line through some very sketchy sites, but there are a lot of medical warnings on several real medical sites.  So I guess you really can give yourself tape worms.  According to one article, they don't provide much weight loss, however, and there have been very severe health problems documented.  I guess the saying is true--there is a sucker born every minute.

I watched some show on it and the person was talking about what you do to kill the tapeworm. Cannot remember what it was but they said you could feel something happening.  It is all too grisly for me to mull about too much.

Bri looked pissed during the card game. Girl needs a chill pill. Sam should not marry her imo.

I haven't seen the card game photo, but I've noticed in other pictures that even when she's smiling, Bri somehow manages to look angry. Poor Sam. I hope this relationship turns out OK for him.

There is nobody around to buy the clothes that fit her kids. Those extra smalls are not flying off the shelves. Like I said before, Jill’s fan base are always buying plexus reset to lose weight, so I doubt they wear those sizes. I also see that Kaylee has blondish hair. It looks very pretty on her, if she would just give up that weird style of pulling half of it up.

Bri was very weird during the game. If they were up there as a couple why didn’t she say a word? And keep an eye on her, she is incessantly blinking.. Like one of those weird ticks that people have.

I have a 1896 Sears catalog,! Oh how I wish those drugs were around now. I bet when you took something for “ female weakness” they weren’t messing around. You probably got a nice dose of morphine or something.

There were many "women's tonics" around to give women a boost.  They were very high in alcohol, and many, many women became alcoholic.  Most patent medicines had alcohol as a main ingredient.  During Prohibition you could not buy any alcohol in any form.  Even cough medicine.  I have a special prescription for cough medicine written during Prohibition, and it has a special liquor stamp.  Special stamps were the only way any prescription with alcohol could be filled.

They also used to give a shot of heroin during labor.  How times have changed.

My dad was a pharmacist, and he bought a store that had been in business in the same location since the 1910's.  There were a lot of old patent medicines in that store.  My dad and I collected medicine bottles and tins for many years.  Some had really great graphics on the label.  I remember selling some items like Humphrys and Beef Iron and Wine tonic when I helped in the store in the 1960's.  There was no alcohol or drugs in the product by then, but some of the ingredients in them would raise eyebrows.  Lots of strange weeds and herbs which sounded disgusting.  The claims of what the product could do were very widespread.  Just like Plexus today.

I noticed the blinking too! I guess it could be a tick as you say but it looks odd.

Bri looked like she was trying to keep sweet while Sam struggled to articulate. His clues were, well, clueless.

I'm sure playing a word game with the unschooled Rodriguii was an eye-opener for college-graduate Bri, who is wearing an Amish dress for some reason.

I'd love to know what she's really thinking. Is she getting worried about joining this family, or is she planning a coup? Time will tell, I guess.

Who is going to feed those fish while  they are off on their various trips?

They have had that fish tank for quite a while. Maybe since they moved into the barndo. I know it has been shown in videos before.

When we had a fish tank, we dropped in the 2 week feeder things when we were away. I don't see the rods doing that though. If they think about it at all, they probably dump in some extra food and leave

I would love another aquarium.  I had a 60 gal salt tank before I moved. It was in a nice, secure cabinet.  Any fish I bought now would have a life expectancy of about 12 minutes.  My cats would see to that!

I have a few as well from my brother-in-law. His father and grandfather were pharmacists, we’re going way way back on that because his father was already old when he was born. One bottle is cannabis, and one is morphine. I’ll have to get them out because I can’t remember the other scandalous ones.

I wonder what was in the products to grow hair? They had the drawings of women with hair flowing all down their backs. Probably alcohol. Get drunk enough and you don’t even know where your hair is.

Funny story about our fish tank. Little by little fish would go missing. It was in our dining room so every night we would count how many were left. No carcasses nothing to see, just gone. The lone Survivor was a pretty little tiny blue fish. That was a thinker.

Even if it’s the smallest of the group?

Weird reference, but there’s an old movie called Freaks. They all get crazy one night and start chanting - gooble gobble one of us - over and over again. That’s what we would say when one of the fish would disappear. 😂

I hate the way they perform like trained seals. They’re shopping for a Christmas tree, and Jill has her camera on Tessie, who is yawning. The minute she sees the camera she breaks out in a hysterical smile and laugh. Nothing is funny or all that exciting. But when that camera hits them, they better be joyous and thrilled with their mundane life.

Gabriel is standing there all dressed up like he’s working at the Christmas tree farm. Why don’t the boys (or girls) get jobs when they are teenagers? My son worked at Michael’s when he was 16, and the other one went to Petsmart when he was the same age. It was their spending money for whatever they wanted. It’s like they’re just home doing nothing until they’re ready to find a job that will support a wife. Or for the girls to catch a “man”. Surely Renee is more than capable of ringing up some sales at some kind of store. Same for anybody over 16. Or David for that matter can take on some holiday job bundling up Christmas trees or something else. He doesn’t look that busy when he’s lounging in front of the map.

Well sadly I don’t think they would be able to get a job because of their lack of education. I also am not sure how well they would be able to handle normal conversations I mean it seems that all conversations must include Jesus and are you saved and you don’t do that at work. Also if they did get a job they might see how regular people react with each other…no one smiling on demand when being filmed, people having genuine conversations and maybe just maybe someone who loves Christ who is not a judgmental jerk.

Somehow I missed that OfSamuel has been included in the Curdled Cream modeling gigs.  She seems to be sliding seamlessly right into this family, sucking up to Jill and awaiting the perfect time to overthrow Jill's reign.  I am so here for that.  I am also a little scared.  I sense the impending power clash being something along the lines of Thor versus The Hulk.

According to Reddit, the dress Brianne is modeling was one that a Rodrigues fan from Australia sewed and sent to one of Jill’s daughters.  And Jill is selling it.  She really is a fking ***.

I'm not surprised in the slightest. I'm sure half of the clothes she is selling people gave to them. People who thought they were helping out a struggling family, doing the Christian thing. And then that creature turns around and is trying to make a tidy profit off of them. I hope word gets out.

Doesn't their cult have a thing about working for other people? Like its not Godly or something.  I wonder if the rule is relaxed if you work for Hobby Lobby or Chick Fil A

My friend's husband always wanted his own business, which is fine, but since he went almost full on fundie, he is very adamant about it. He has tried on and off but his last venutre, which started out not so bad, ended in failure (no business, no money). He has a job for a Christian organization but hates "working for someone". They must make this part of their sermons.
