No one could explain what was the joy in explosions.  They just responding with a personal attack about my denying "joy" for children and about patriotism.

It shouldn't be that difficult to double check the address on the package before delivering it.  It isn't rocket science.

I have deliveries come almost every day (thank you social anxiety) and our problem is we live at 123 Fake street and there is a parallel Phony street one street over that also has a house with the address 123. So every once in a while we get deliveries for Theodora Flora at 123 Phony street and she sometimes gets ours. We just take them over to each other's houses and roll our eyes, I chalk it up to regular drivers being out sick/on vacation/whatever. No biggie.

Depending on who is delivering the package, they are being tracked for their speed and being fired by computer algorithms.  Drivers are in a lose / lose position.  Its accuracy vs speed.  And if one gets too out whack for the algorithm then that's the end of employment.  So it is more difficult than it would appear.  And for all we know, the algorithm puts more weight on speed than accuracy.

Same, @Suzn; should’ve followed that same advice when I decided to contribute to a lengthy discussion on mine about the ongoing nuisance of protestors at the Planned Parenthood clinic near our neighborhood. Suddenly it’s 2am and I’m in bed typing explanations to several pathetically clueless MEN((have you noticed the loudest pro-Life supporters are men?)) about why PP is so important to women of all ages and that abortion is actually only a small portion of the services PP offers to its clientele. 

Ugh…like spare us all the pointless Bible quotes, the patriarchal shaming of women’s sexuality and the morality policing on NextDoor, fellas; a woman should *never* be shamed by worthless protestors just to get some birth control pills or nab a wellness check or do whatever else she needs to do at the local PP clinic. Period!

My street number is 130.  I sometimes get packages for 128.  The house next to me is 126.  I legit don't know where 128 is so I don't blame UPS and FedEx for not knowing.  It's crazy.

We have the same situation. There's a house in the next cul de sac that has the same # as ours and the two street names are way too similar. But fortunately we haven't had mail mix-ups for quite some time. However, the first few years we lived here, it happened a lot. Who the heck assigns the same numbers to houses on adjoining cul de sacs (& creates similar street names)?

Right? And to make matters worse, some trickster at the City switched the green street sign at the top of the streets a few years ago. It's been fixed but talk about headaches.

I have never had a problem with UPS or Fedex delivering packages to me. My problem has been with USPS, twice now they have thrown my box in the ditch...not even in my own yard. I wish I could opt out of USPS delivery on Amazon.

I too have lots of deliveries, I try to get as much online as I can so I don't have to go out any longer than necessary.

I'm having a very stressful time with Wayfair and FedEx.  I'm moving next week, ordered furniture and put it on a Vacation Hold with fedex.  Well they delivered last week to an apt that I am not even at.  grrrrr.  After many calls to both of them, I think it is resolved?  They (Wayfair) told me yesterday that they re-ordered the furniture and if the original boxes are still there - keep them or donate them.

Anyone need a loveseat and two chairs that have been sitting in the rain?  sigh.

She just wanted to know if I knew who dumped the couch there.  I did not.

Oh, Peaches, me too — and I have never even seen a Purge movie, even as a lifelong horror enthusiast (including shit like Last House on the Left — not a favorite, mind you, just something I wanted to see once, at least once for its…influential status, I guess? Definitely not a “hey, let’s have a movie night” pick!). My boyfriend finds it amusing and curious that The Purge is where I’ve drawn the line. But mob mentality themes have always made me crazy. I know my head will feel messed up if I watch those.

I agree. I too am a lifelong horror move enthusiast. I will watch just about anything, even stuff like The Texas Chainsaw Murder, although I couldn't get through LHotL because I can't handle rape scenes but I won't even give The Purge one second of my time. It's utter trash and I suspect the producers of having some nefarious agenda and it ain't good for people like us.

Hostel was almost an exception for me, in that I guess I didn't expect such a resonance after the fact; I thought it was going to be a "fluffy" late-'90s Wrong Turn kind movie...but it was not. Oof, that thing crept back into my head for days!

I'm veering off topic, so PEEVE: unnecessary twist endings in horror movies that were perfectly good solid scary stories until the last quarter, when said twist rears its ugly head!

That's what I do too (it also means I don't have to change glasses between TV screen and laptop screen).  It still annoys me though.

So much this! We have a seasonal place in northern NY, it's in a mobile home park with 40 other trailers. Our neighbors run the gamut from 80+ years old down to mid-30's, everyone gets along because there is an unsaid understanding that we don't talk politics, religion or any other hot button topic. We talk about the weather, park maintenance, our kids/grandkids, issues with our trailers, etc. It's not hard.

My pet peeve for today - spoofed calls.  My phone had been quiet most of the time up to about a week ago when it would ring every so often with a phone number listing the city and state.  I looked some of them up and came up with nothing.  Had to be some scammer calling.  I don’t answer them so I don’t know if they’d address me by name or not.  I spent some time a while back getting my name and contact info removed from a lot of these data broker sites so I’d think that any of these calls are coming from some random phone dialers looking for live phone numbers.

My pet peeve and I've had it for a long time is the people I call Schrodinger's Douchebags. They say horrible sexist/racist/bigoted things. Now if you agree with them they're fine and dandy but if you call them on their shit, all of a sudden "It was just a joke! Jeez." No, it was not a joke. Jokes are funny, you're just looking for fellow travelers to agree with your terrible opinions.

Agreed. These people like to act all daring with the stuff they say, trying to be all shocking and edgy and "I don't care who I offend!"...and then they try and scurry away from taking responsibility for what they said if someone gets upset with them for it. No. You think you're bold enough to say this stuff, then you're bold enough to deal with the consequences that come from it. None of this weaseling out and 'It was just a joke!" nonsense.

"Oh look. It's the consequences of my own actions." It's true we have free speech in this country. But all that means is that the government can't censor speech. Private individuals are under no obligation to listen to you spout bs just because you can.

This is a pet peeve of mine, people who think they can say anything about anybody because they have 1st Amendment rights of free speech. These are the same type of people who think they can go to another country & their rights as an American go with them.

My husband manages one of the largest model railroading stores in the country. Collectors come there from all over the world. There are a couple people who work there who complain every time about "damn furriners" who don't know English. These same people have never been more than fifty miles away from where they were born in their entire lives.

Ugh, people like that drive me nuts. I know plenty of people who were born and raised here whose grasp of English is...lacking, to say the least. And there's many foreigners who speak English just fine, too. So...their point? 

And if foreigners are still learning English, well, then, fine, they're learning. They need support, not scorn.

Spare yourself the time spent manually searching a thread!  While the Search function is no longer available on individual threads (or, if it is, they've moved it someplace I can't find), so that you have to search an entire forum/sub-forum instead, when you're looking for something in one of these threads and have to back out to Everything Else in order to use Search, wading through those results for all of EE is still usually a lot faster than manually searching the individual thread.

(And this one took no wading at all; your original question was the second result.)

Seems like a whole lot of (the same?) people understand the First Amendment about as well as they understand HIPAA.

As for UPS/post office peeves, we always get deliveries here for the house across the street — like ALWAYS. In fact, there are 2 downstairs right now. No one other than my BF in these condos ever seems to bring them to the people, but that’s beside the point, as they shouldn’t have to after all this time. The recipients’ house is an even number and we’re odd, so it’s crazy that this keeps happening. Also, when my BF does bring their stuff, the people are always snotty to him!

Bless you for spelling HIPAA correctly. You’re right, there are a lot of people who throw HIPAA out there who clearly don’t even understand the most basic aspect of it.

I had a job applicant once upon a time who said she’d worked in healthcare and was familiar with “HIPPA” regulations on her application.  She did not get an interview — not just for misspelling HIPAA, mind you, but that didn’t help.

And for today’s peeve — the Fourth of July was last week.  Stop with the bloody fireworks already!
