There're 4 million cataract surgeries each year, so that's as "routine" a procedure as can be imagined

Thanks, Dot - that’s what I’m hoping for!  Surgery is one of the few times I long NOT to be special/the exception. Just let me blend in.

Well, my cataract surgery today went fine, at least in terms of I'm not dead! But I thus far see no discernible difference. Indeed, my vision is blurry right now. Keeping my fingers crossed that clears up soon.

Funny story: the anestheologist was flipping thru my paperwork & looked up at my 80-year-old being & said, "You've never had any surgery ever?"

He paused for a moment, then said, "Impressive."

(I've never even had my ears pierced. 😊)

Dot, I am having my first surgery ever and im 47. I am scared!!!! 😧

You'll be OK. First of all, the surgery nurses will take incredibly good care of you. (And if you need something, ask for it. They really mean that when they tell you to ask.) The anestheseologist will take special care since it's your first surgery, as will the surgeon.

Everything will go perfectly for you, @Nicmar. Trust me, the world's biggest surgery-phobe. Indeed, I'm going to have to have cataract surgery on my other eye within a few months & I'm not even bothered about it, the first surgery having been so easy-peasy.

I find PrimeTimer really annoying in the way it suddenly changes my screen from a forum thread to a page of "news" about celebrities I've never heard of & wouldn't care about if I had.

Is this happening to the rest of you? (Sometimes my using a tablet instead of a computer can lead to strange occurrences.)

Still can't. I have bifocals becuz I got tired of constantly switching glasses. My doc said we'd discuss a new Rx in a few weeks when my eye is completely healed. I suspect at that time I'll get a Rx for a stronger reader in the bifocal portion. (And I still need surgery on my right eye, so that's probably a factor as well.)

I watched Seth Meyer's Late Show last night. One of his guests was Aidie Bryant who looks like she is flirting with 400 lbs. She was promoting the start of the 2nd season of "Shrill," her show on Hulu. I'd never heard of it, so I watched a couple of clips. It's designed as the narrative of a young, fat woman dealing with her life in a thin-ppl world -- sound familiar?

Anyhoo, I think I'll watch it. It sounds like a show that would be much more entertaining than MBFFL while exploring similar themes.

The book , Shrill, was written by Lindy West and is WONDERFUL.   Smart, funny, ideas on weight and fatshaming.

I haven't seen the show yet, but ai like Aidy Bryant.

In another thread, @Tosia made this comment:

"Twit has really blown her opportunities for $ beyond TLC.

Her self-centered, immature personality screwed her chances of any role model status chances.

I Fricking love that there are many more plus size women coming up who are strong,  talented, unapologetic, and NO EXCUSES,  put-spoken, and beautiful."

ITA! I think of 2 heavyset women who made a splash in the 2018 election. Stacey Abrams is a black woman who came very close to becoming GA's guv. And Katie Porter won a CA Cong. district never held by a Dem. Both have an educational & career history any of us would envy. And the fact that they are FAT never comes up becuz it is so immaterial to who they are.

As someone in this forum pointed out recently, Twit chose to "star" in a show named My Big FAT Fabulous Life. She has to live with it.

Thanks @Dot and @Irate Panda. I had a great day. Started the day at spin class. They’d put up Happy Birthday banners and got me a tiara. LOL I’ve only been going there less than 2 months. It was so sweet.

Then I went to get a massage. The guy knew it was my birthday so he asked me if I had to be anywhere right way and I told him no so he said ‘well we will go a bit over then since it’s your birthday’ THREE hours later I emerged completely noodle-like. I had an appointment for a 1 hour massage. He does therapeutic myofascial release and massage. I feel amazing.

I just finished a leisurely dinner on my back patio. Takeout tonight and my daughter made me a coconut cake. Mr. 3girls is taking me to a really nice restaurant tomorrow night. He prefers not to rush to go out on a work night which is fine with me. I’ll need to do 3 spin classes a day for at least a week to make up for that meal but I love the place and we only go once every few years. Last time was 2 years ago for the 25 anniversary.

So far 50 is going very well 🙂

A question for those of you still attending weddings: how do you know whether or not you can come with an escort? I guess an invite might say "[yr name] plus one." But if it doesn't? Do you automatically assume you cannot bring a guest? Do you call the bride or groom & ask permission to bring someone?

We just went through this about a year ago when my daughter got married. The invitation will say ‘X and guest’ if they are allowed to bring a date. This is used only for not married people. If the person invited is not allowed to bring a date then the ‘and guest’ is not on there and you assume you can’t bring a date. However, I’ve not really experienced that although the instructions for it were in the wedding books. I wouldn’t ever do that, personally. I do realize that it can cost a fortune for a wedding so every person adds up but to me I’d probably cut the person from the guest list rather than tell them they can come without a guest. Of course you might know someone well enough to know they don’t have a plus one and don’t plan on getting one just for a wedding so you would leave the ‘and guest’ off in that case and it wouldn’t be rude or tacky.  If you are inviting someone who is married it’s ‘Mr. and Mrs.’ or whatever is appropriate for the couple. If you want that couple and the kids you add ‘and family’. I’ve never heard of a situation where you invite a married person but not their spouse. Not sure the etiquette for that since it seems seriously wrong.

My brief comment on the plus-one thing - my niece in California struggled with that when planning her wedding . Finally she and her fiance decided that they would invite couples, by name, if they were married, or co-habiting, or if either of them knew both of the partners, if unmarried and not cohabiting.  IOW no unknown plus ones.  (The groom had had a pretty bad experience with the unknown plus ones that the invited guests had brought to his sister's wedding.) Despite some groans, the singles who came ended up having a pretty good time. No one had to explain, or be embarrassed to admit they hadn't come with a date, and there seemed to be quite a lot of enthusiastic mingling and flirting going on.

To make it even more clear (since people sometimes assume they are allowed to bring a guest, even though only their name is on the invitation), you can have your RSVP cards printed to say, "We have reserved ___ seats in your honor." and fill in the number of people included in the invitation.

That's what the hubs and I did a thousand years ago when we got married. "Mr. and Mrs. Joe Jones" "Mr. Jim Smith and Mr. Bill Brown" etc......

Ok, the reason I posted about Chase not posting anything about Twit on his IG was twofold:

(1) I really think if they were a real couple he'd have at least one pic

(2) Watch Chase's IG to see how quickly he posts one.

Lurk much?

OK, I've got a Q for those of you with smart phones. (I don't have one.)

My understanding is that the pictures/videos you take are stored in the phone. That you can d/l them to your computer if you want. That you can print them out. That, IOW, there is the same kind of permanence you get with a camera.

So my Q: why are both Twit & Natalie memorializing their trip with fleeting IG Stories? Do you think they have a camera or another smart phone which they use for photos they want to keep? Was Anna Celeste supposed to provide this service? Is there some way the person who takes the IG Story can preserve it even tho it disappears from IG after 24 hours?

Quoting someone who knows: "Stories you create and share on Instagram are automatically saved in your Stories Archive, so there's no need to save them to your phone. You can turn off Stories Archive at any time in Settings."

Whitney posts them on IG because she's a fame whore. I'm sure they're also in her phone. Remember several months ago when she talked about deleting thousands of pictures from her phone?

This whole trip seems so  odd to me. Something  must be behind it. It is an awkward, basically seemingly unplanned  trip. They could have done things so much more easily. The whole thing is odd.

I saw a big, beautiful librarian lady at the Library who had on a pretty navy print dress and bright yellow tights with bright yellow shoes!  So cool and colorful!

I asked her where she got her tights and she told me online ...a site called "Snagtights."

They make bright fun colorful tights for all sizes 2-34!

I bought 4 pair and I will let you know how they fit; I'm a 16-18 depending on style.

I'm not representing them or anything.

I'm not crass like Twit.

So, there's a woman at my gym who is Whitney's size, only taller --- probably 5'8" ... I estimate that she weighs at least 450. Why is this noteworthy?

She works there. A gym. She's management. She gets a free membership as an employee.

This just makes me unbelievably sad.

I sent this DM to SilverStormm today:

I use a Kindle Fire tablet. Since Primetimer started using ads that flow across the bottom of the page, it has become impossible for me to add a comment in a forum thread. I am speaking about those ads which are so long that they do not show the "X" to close the ad. Without the ability to close the ad, it appears atop the space where I am trying to write my comment.

I have no problem about ads. I hope your ad sales are substantial since I know that's needed to keep Primetimer going. But please: design the bottom ads so they are short enough to show the "X". Thank you.

If you are having the same problem, pls report it as I have done. (I am not the only one, per some comments I have seen in the Bugs forum.) The more ppl who report the problem, the faster it will be repaired, I believe.

That isn't the case.  The speed in which something is fixed is related to the difficulty in fixing said bug.

That and the cost of not fixing it, which sets the priority where the bug falls in the backlog of work.
