nextian December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 As much as I love Blake, I will never, never understand his and Miranda's love for RaeLynn! -If they love her as person, fine but don't inflict her on country music. And there are plenty of strong females in country music that deserve to be heard from, we don't need RaeLynn. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Blake the only coach who hasn't performed some of his own music this season? That's weird to me, I wonder why? 3 Link to comment
dizzyizzy01 December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 Adam already got a consolation prize with Grimmie. They changed the rules at the last minute to make top 4 a twitter save instead of a straight elimination. Otherwise, Kristen would have gone to the finale over Grimmie. Now...Adam is my least favorite coach by far. I actually really dislike him. However, him being favored for this is a really big stretch. The twitter save was a ratings ploy nothing more, and I don't believe for a second that Kristen would have gone to the finale over Grimmie. I just don't buy Kristen was really more popular cause if you looked at Itunes rankings, Grimmie outsold her virtually every week. 3 Link to comment
hincandenza December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 Luke often blinks a lot-- I thought it was a contact lens issue, but is he blind in one eye? If so it wouldn't make sense that both eyes were blinking. I believe he's missing an eye, and has a prosthetic; didn't he lose an eye in a childhood gun accident? When you have something in your eye you instinctively blink both eyes, so that's just going to happen anyway even if you lose an eye. Link to comment
hks December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 I think it's favoritism if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, like many things in life, there is simply a process for doing things and you stick to the same rules and standards to avoid preferences and unfairness. Though I'm not opposed to drawing names out of a hat if it makes people feel better. But I think people are stretching a bit to make it seem like it's Adam favoritism. Noreaster, I very much agree - I honestly don't think the Instant Save performance order has any affect on the voting, and isn't purposely being set with preference for one team/artist. The appeal of some contestants to the younger, twittering audience, of course, does affect the voting. But that's more a commentary on the process of using Twitter at all for voting - which, whatever. The producers are after the youth vote, they will get it that way. I do think that there is some advantage over performing last in the regular live shows. Only because, ending the show implies that the producers decided that would be the best performance. All singing shows tend to do that - save the best for last. And if its being done here, which I think it might be, I don't think it's to show favortism to one team/artist. I think it's because the producers BELIEVE the performance to be the best. Like they are anticipating the reaction from voters, not trying to influence it. 1 Link to comment
Kcat1971 December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 And here's a small real world scenario just to throw a wrinkle in all the conspiracy theories-- I knew I was going to miss the show last night. So around 8:55 I looked at twitter to see who was in the bottom. I much prefer Chris to the rest of the choices so I re-tweeted a link to save him. I had no idea what the order of performance was. If Craig or Damien had been in the bottom instead of Chris I wouldn't have bothered because I don't really care for either of them and I would have expected their own fans to save them. (For the record I also prefer both of them to the other 3 so I would have wanted them saved but not enough to re-tweet.) So if a contestant has enough committed fans, order of performance isn't really going to matter that much in this stage of the game, at least as far as the twitter save goes. 4 Link to comment
Nedsdag December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 (edited) So much to say about last night's show. Where to start: I've never seen a contestant self destruct as Luke has done. He has been so off on the songs he has sang over the past two weeks that I wondered if it was nerves or if he wanted out of the competition. His version of "Stand By Me" was putrid and very Reno casino lounge act. I do not understand the Chris love. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I don't get how he's a "heartthrob." I thought his version of "Sexual Healing" was like watching a drunken frat boy trying to seduce a virginal freshman girl. Besides, I thought DaNica out sang him last night. Good riddance live action Disney prince aka Ryan. Anaheim/Orlando are calling. As much as I enjoyed Matt and Damien on Monday, seeing them and Chris finish second would make my season because I don't want to see Adam win. Team Keanu Reeves/Tim Lincecum hybrid (TJW). Personally, I think Adam must throw massive tantrums backstage to get all this favoritism and the rest of the coaches just don't want to deal with his shit and let him get his way. 4 Link to comment
Padma December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 If Pharrell actually makes a record with some of his team as he's said he would (Sugar, Luke), he'll still be giving contestants a reason to choose him. Other than that--or a fondness for singing dated songs with uninspired arrangements and stagings--I can't imagine why anyone would. I'd even choose CeeLo over Pharrell at this point, and that's saying something. 2 Link to comment
meep.meep December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 At least they don't pretend that the Twitter save is "America voting" because it isn't - it's the Eastern time zone. I missed most of the show, but heard the last 4 do the desperation singoff. Danica couldn't hit half the notes because her range is so confined. Luke has been in a death spiral for weeks and just kept on swirling swirling swirling. The preppy one (Ryan) at least did a decent performance. And Chris was actually pretty good. So glad that Damien got through. 1 Link to comment

Do you pay for the time you tweet (drop a dime in the pay phone) does the Show get any percentage, or how exactly is money being made? I can understand how show makes money through iTunes (which I also do not do), but as a old fogy, I am unclear as to the advantage of more tweets. Every time I see Matt and Damien's names together, I think of Matt Damon! Matt is the love child of John Denver and Harry Potter and Damien is a min-Vandross. Three names reminds me of Sean Lennon, and CWB is Travis Tritt 2.0. Luke needs to go do some Broadway-type shows to get his mojo back; Ryan is the lost Osmond cousin. 1 Link to comment

rollerblade December 3, 2014 Share December 3, 2014 (edited) I figured this was gonna end up happening. Fuck. Why do they wanna save Chris so badly? I think I might vote next week for the first time. I really want Damien to make the finals. Can someone give me a rundown on how next week and the finale week are gonna go? SoYouThinkYouCanTweet? -- Right now, Chris is leading the pack at 70k followers. Yikes! Craig is next at 59k. Matt 51k. Taylor 47k. Danica/Sugar rounds out the bottom at ~18k/13k respectively. Sorry ladies, you have no chance. I think Monday (12/8) the Top 5 will sing their songs as usual. Tuesday (12/9), Carson will announce the 3 who will go into the Finals. Then the remaining 9 "losers" (or rather eliminatees) will sing for their lives, err, tweets. This Results show will be an hour long, so it will be kinda funny to see them cram all that into an hour haha. The nine: Jessie, Sugar, Reagan, Anita, Ryan, Luke, Danica, TBD, TBD. The following Monday (12/15), the 4 sing their stuff. Then on Tuesday (12/16) will be a bunch of celebs peddling their new shit for 1.5 hours. Adam+Blake will tell each other to shut up, Gwen+Pharrell will butter up Ryan+Sugar. And at 10:55pm (9:55pm central/mountain), Carson will crown our S7 winner. MangoFed December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 Right, so when Adam's team gets eliminated early, it's proof he's a bad coach, and when his team is left intact, it's because the producers favour him. I mean, this isn't the first time he's had 3 singers go deep. He had Tessanne, Will, and James in the top 5 as well, back in season 5. He always has the most talented team, so it's not that surprising. 5 Link to comment

sweetaspie December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 Ok, I have to ask...why all the Adam hate? Maybe I'm just not perceptive enough but I don't see him doing anything any different than the other coaches. Am I missing something? I've watched every season and read these boards and it seems more and more, it's adam is a douche, adam has an agenda, adam always gives his black contestants the worst songs, adam is being favored by the producers. Why would the producers show favoritism towards adam? Is he blackmailing someone? Seriously I'm not saying he isn't all these bad things I just want to know why I don't see it. What am I missing? As for the songs he gives Damian, just seems to me that's the type of singer Damian wants to be. I didn't see him picking the Adele song as a smack down to adam. I think he just likes the song and wanted a chance to sing it, but R&B is clearly his wheelhouse and everyone knows old R&B is better than what is out there now. If you ask me, Chris is the one he gives the worst songs to. The only song he gave him that seemed to fit Chris was the nick Jonas song. He was the one to sing that right? 2 Link to comment

mercfan3 December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 Chris can actually sing, and Adam has yet to give him a song where he can showcase that. That's my biggest problem with it. And good lord, the competition this season is filled with singers with limited range, let the one who has range show it a little. He gives him crappy rap pop songs, or crappy bubblegum pop songs. It's hilarious when you consider what Chris has chosen for himself to sing (Gravity, Sitting on The Dock of The Bay, Georgia On My Mind.) He actually does a fantastic cover of "Let's Get it On." Stripped back and acoustic..nope..Adam chooses the cheesy dance pop song for Chris to sing..again. That's my biggest issue with Chris' songs. Him, Damien, and Danica are the best technical singers in this competition, and as bad As Damien and Danica's songs have been, they at least although them to show that they can sing. Chris have been bad and haven't allowed people to actually get a good look at his talent. When given the opportunity, IMO, he slaughtered the other three people on the bottom with him. (Danica would give him a run for his money, but her voice waivered and she seemed nervous. Plus, she's not great at power singing, which is what I"d Rather Go Blind requires.) The one thing I'll give Adam, is he has set up Chris to win the twitter save by getting him the younger fanbase. I think he could have done that and given Chris non shitty songs, but his song choices achieved that. (I'm sure Chris' cute face didn't hurt, either.) So at the end of the day, he's got a very good shot at the finale because he's got a good shot at winning the twitter save. BTW: I don't think they realized how much of an advantage it is going last on the twitter save. But I'd also say there has yet to be a twitter save that I disagreed with..other than Matt/James..but I think that was just personal preference and both of their voices were dying. 1 Link to comment

I keep wondering what Ryan should do. Singing telegrams, maybe? He seems nice and is cute, but he is too nervous on stage and I doubt he can act or dance. Chris was my favorite this week and on this show, he finally looked hot. I like the serious look on him. ETA: Forgot to say that I really enjoyed his Georgia on my Mind. He's getting better and better. I always worry about CWB, he looks so close to tears. Relax, man, you've gotten what you needed from the show. If RaeLynn can make it, so can you. RaeLynn's song didn't bother me. Country music is full of songs that are tongue in cheek. Seriously, someone could write a song about a man fixing toilets and hauling trash to the dump and smashing spiders with his boots who still just wants to give you a candy heart and no one would blink twice about the silly stereotype. In my opinion, at least. I was never completely on the Grimmie train last season and sort of groaned when she was announced. I thought she did a great job. I forgot to mention how much I enjoy beardless Carson and Adam. Carson is so comfortable now on the show that I can barely remember what Idol was like with Seacrest. I liked T3N's self-described style of Amish hipster. More dry humor, please. As for Team Adam, I think it's completely fair. Those 3 are some of the strongest in the ompetition. SunnyBeBe December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 I'm okay with the show, except for Adam and the Instant Save. I do not like it at all. It's unfair for contestants whose home base is not on the East Coast and other reasons. It negates the person who potentially got more votes for one who didn',t but gathered more for the Instant save. Oh hell, all my fans had to work tonight. So, I go home. I hate it. Don't get me started on Adam. I have grown to detest him the more I see of the guy on this show. He's certainly a fortunate dude to have come so far based on his level of talent. I'll give him that. He seems to want to be associated with the cooler contestant on his team and the hell with the rest, so he'll push them to the curb. I can't get into Chris. He reminds me of any random guy on Lockup. (tv show featuring inmates.) I'm bummed that Danica went home, but she had no chance of winning, so I guess it was no tragedy. Still, seeing someone with her vocals go now is sad. Besides, why do we even make such a big deal out of it? Unless the winner is Craig, they will be forgotten about in about two months from now anyway. Craig can make it in the country field, especially if he wins. Even the Swon Brothers are doing okay, along with Danielle and Cassadee Pope. I think they should do a Special about The Voice and explain how you can have a dynamite voice, win The Voice and still fade into obscurity within 9 months of winning. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/voice-winners-article-1.1947491 1 Link to comment

But they should really get rid of the twitter save and just let the two with the lowest votes go home. I agree with your post. I'm o.k. with Adam's team being intact since he does have a strong team. But I hate the twitter save. It favors the contestants that have a big Twitter following and it's mostly the East Coast fans that can twitter. It also favors younger fans because most of the older people don't twitter. I guess the show wants the latter to happen since they want a young demographic because they bring in more advertising money. Other shows like DWTS are also doing Twitter votres. But it's for things that don't really matter in the long run, e.g. who performs the encore. So to me if the Voice wants to use Twitter, it should be something like pick a song that you want your favorite contestant to sing out of these three choices. I don't think it should be used to decide who should advance especially for something like the finals. I think the four contestants who got the highest votes should advance. 2 Link to comment
rollerblade December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 The Top 4 sings three songs each, right? Why not use Twitter votes for one of the songs for contestants? Coach's choice, Singer's choice, Twitter's choice. That sounds fun, and it involves the followers. Twitter votes being a decider for a finals spot is just lame. Although I suspect the 4 going forward will be the actual Top 4 vote-getters from Monday. I also think the Wildcard round is just another excuse for the show sell more MP3s on itunes. Jessie recorded her Wildcard song few days after her elimination. 1 Link to comment
Noreaster December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 (edited) I think the Twitter save is just a ratings gimmick. It's entertaining and makes for good drama to have the contestants do this last chance sing-off. And it certainly has me tuning into the last 20 minutes of the results show instead of avoiding it altogether. But anyone that needs to be "saved" via Twitter is probably not going to win the show anyway. FYI, the show also airs live in the Central Time Zone. So something like 80% of the viewing population can watch the show live. Still unfair to the West Coast (and Mountain?) viewers, but not as bad as it seems. Also, as another poster mentioned, I'm sure some people are not even basing their tweets on the instant-save performances but just voting for their favorites. That's likely what drove the huge gap between Chris and the rest of the field. Not the performance order over a 10-15 minute period. Is the wild card twitter-save confirmed? In a 1-hour episode with all 9 contestants performing and then a 5-minute voting window? If so, then the performance order actually matters here. So drawing names out of a hat? Actually I think the "fairest" way is to have the contestants perform in the order they were eliminated. Starting with Jessie and Sugar and ending with the two people eliminated next week. I would also imagine from a "fairness" perspective, many viewers might just vote for 1 of the last 2 eliminated people regardless (that is, thinking these last 2 are the most "deserving" of a finalist spot). I think you are right about that. In my opinion, none of the previously eliminated contestants deserve a final four spot over one of the contestants currently in the Top 5. Noreaster December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 (edited) Yep. I also think this "fairness" element might have been in play this week. Out of the bottom 4, who do you think "deserves" to advance based on the regular live performances? Not that itunes is always reliable, but Chris sold much more than the other 3 this week. I think he sold better in prior weeks too. Chris was very likely #5 in regular votes. ETA: Duh, I'm the one posting the itunes results each week. Kcat1971 December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 I don't think I'm necessarily a fan of this Twitter vote to determine the 4th person in the finals but it doesn't feel like that big of a deal either. Maybe because I really do believe it will just end up being one of the two that are eliminated from the Top 5. I have a couple thoughts on what might make a better twist or way to to determine the Top 4. Palomar December 4, 2014 Share December 4, 2014 It's kind of ironic they called this show The Voice because short of maybe Christina and Usher, none of the coaches are successful for their voices, in my opinion. I would say these coaches actually have UNmarketable voices but highly marketable other traits: Adam, Shakira, Gwen, Pharrell, CeeLo. I don't know enough about Blake's music to say what he's successful for. I think that's partly why the winners of this show don't seem to fare well. Having a great voice is one tiny piece of the puzzle. They're mostly pretty bland and boring, to me. Basically it comes down to the SONG. Think about the greatest songs of all time...the singers do not always have the greatest voices. And of course the style and star power of the artists is key as well, as you are saying. 2 Link to comment

If I understand how this show works... which is not a sure thing haha I am not sure how many votes people typically get through other methods, but that is pretty significant, meaning Kristen likely would have beat her I am not crazy about the twitter save. I understand why they have it but I think it disadvantages certain performers... like I am sure Damien consistently beats Chris in votes but I don't think he'd beat Chris in terms of tweets. Just a different fan base. I am also assuming most twitter voters are on average younger then voters of other methods. Link to comment
Ohwell December 5, 2014 Share December 5, 2014 I keep wondering what Ryan should do. Singing telegrams, maybe? He seems nice and is cute, but he is too nervous on stage and I doubt he can act or dance. I think Ryan would be perfect as a lead in a boy band. If I were him I would round up a few other guys who have decent voices and find a manager. It shouldn't be too hard for him to learn some dance moves either. Link to comment

Even if there was 10k differential in sales, which may or may not be a stretch. The top 10 is surprisingly low sales number on iTunes, especially outside of the very top few. Also, if I remember correctly, you can vote 10 times per method anyway, so it'd only take a few hundred people to vote a few different ways (online, multiple phones, etc.) to overcome that difference on a show with over 10 million viewers on average. Also, Grimmie had what a few million subscribers to her youtube channel? I bet a decent number of them decided to vote for her. Either way, we don't know unless we've seen the actual counts, and there's no definite answer (at least known publicly) that Kristen would have won. There's easily a good case that Grimmie would have beat Kristen out for the finale anyway. I just think it's extremely silly to say Adam's being favored for this or that it was some conspiracy to get Kristen out. The introduction of the twitter save was clearly about ratings and future ad revenue. They're going to continue it as long as it effectively gets them tweets. Noreaster December 5, 2014 Share December 5, 2014 (edited) Sadly, yes. Unless Jessie was misinformed or something. I don't know how long the voting window will be though. Jessie was misinformed. On the Voice website, they have the wildcard voting rules. It's normal voting (phone/email/text/itunes) with the window closing earlier than normal (3am ET/12am PT). This is all about bumping up ratings for Tuesday night's show and maybe selling more itunes. And probably helping the finale ratings with 4 finalists instead of 3. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Blake the only coach who hasn't performed some of his own music this season? That's weird to me, I wonder why? It looks like Blake may be performing this Monday, 12/8. http://www.broadwayworld.com/bwwtv/article/Blake-Shelton-to-Perform-New-Single-Lonely-Tonight-on-NBCs-THE-VOICE-128-20141203 Either way, we don't know unless we've seen the actual counts, and there's no definite answer (at least known publicly) that Kristen would have won. Too many unknowns to say for sure one way or another. There's even precedent on a non-top 10 contestant advancing over a top 10 person in the semifinals: Amber/Michelle in season 4. rollerblade December 5, 2014 Share December 5, 2014 Thanks for the correction, Noreaster. LOL poor Jessie doesn't even know the show's rules.... kids these days. (also reading the fine print, itunes bonus does not apply to wildcard vote) So we don't know who wins the Wildcard until the Performance finale? Link to comment
mercfan3 December 6, 2014 Share December 6, 2014 Yup. Itunes is a sample size...and the situation was similar to that of Amber and Michelle. Amber got the itunes bonus, but overall..it was obvious that Michelle's two songs were selling better than Amber's two songs. Same thing happened with Grimmie. I'd be willing to bet a lot of money that Grimmie was the third. I'll go even further and say that the itunes bonus for the finale wasn't put in because they were afraid Grimmie wouldn't make the finale, but rather because they wanted her in the twitter save. Why have the twitter queen and never get to use it? I couldn't figure out for the life of me why the started pimping Jake..until thinking about it..who could beat Grimmie for the second spot. Jake was the only option, really. He'd get the Blake vote and the aw shucks vote and the country vote. That's pretty much all of the shows biggest demographics.. Link to comment
fluffysheap December 7, 2014 Share December 7, 2014 Hee! Power ranklings. I'm not too rankled, though, I pretty much agree, although Damien could surprise as he's the best remaining technical singer. Chris killed it in the save performances. Definitely the best of the four, when I expected Danica would blow everybody else away. Her song was too belty and didn't really show off her strengths, but I'm not sure you could pack enough variety into 40 seconds to do that. Luke blew it again, and Ryan never had a chance. I apparently missed the kiss, but that would... actually not surprise me at all. I wonder if it surprised Ryan. Hated Grimmie's performance. It's funny, because I was one of her YouTube followers (still am, but don't pay attention) but did not like her performances on the show and like her much less now than I did before - plus the producers and Adam's blatant favoritism left me feeling pretty sour as I was a Kat fancier. Was not familiar with RaeLynn due to not watching that season, but I have heard the song, just never knew who it was by. "All About That Bass" seems to come up if you search so somebody has apparently been making that comparison, but it reminds me much more of a country version of Meredith Brooks' "Bitch." I think the song is OK - not great - but I can see why RaeLynn did not advance that far on the voice as her style might be annoying in the way that Jessie's seems to annoy some people and she doesn't really seem to have a ton of range. For whatever it's worth, I liked the live version better than the radio version, which I think is a bit overproduced. Link to comment

Obviously the contestants need to know right away so the wildcard winner can prepare for the finale. My guess is it's announced quickly to the public. Link to comment

kj4ever December 7, 2014 Share December 7, 2014 I wasn't ever a huge Grimmie fan, but last year when she did all those sponsored Facebook posts she really started to bug. She (or her management, or hell The Voice must have spent a pretty penny on those ads last year...every Monday/Tuesday my feed would be littered with sponsored posts from Grimmie's page saying VOTE FOR ME! so annoying! Noreaster December 8, 2014 Share December 8, 2014 Are the eliminated contestants performing for the wildcard spot on Monday or Tuesday? Wildcard performances are on Tuesday. Monday will be the Top 5 performances. On Tuesday, it will be announced which 3 will advance to the finale and which 2 are eliminated. Then the 2 eliminated contestants, along with the previously eliminated 7 contestants, will compete for the wildcard. Link to comment
