Misslindsey February 23, 2015 Share February 23, 2015 Any tips on applying the nail polish strips better? I have tried Sally Hanson, Jamberry, and Essie, but I cannot seem to apply them very well. I get tearing and creases at the tips. I love the colors and the designs, but feel like an idiot after I put them on and they look awful. Link to comment

Courtesy of http://www.brightestbulbinthebox.com/2013/04/mega-comparison-nail-appliques.html I have the same problem! My nail beds are very curved and that can make application difficult. Here's what I do: I start by centering along my nail, making sure the design is positioned so it will cover both sides of my nail. I push down along the center line, then move to one side and gently stretch the design to the edge of my nail bed, smoothing out wrinkles. I do the same thing for the other side, then push down along the cuticle really well before tearing off the unneeded portion of the design. 3 Link to comment

I get tearing and creases at the tips. I love the colors and the designs, but feel like an idiot after I put them on and they look awful. I love strips & use them all the time. Once you get the hang of it, they're pretty easy. I only use real nail polish strips because vinyl ones are hard to use & always peel back at the nail tips. If you're getting a lot of creases at the nail tip, it's probably just because your nail is rounded & the strip isn't. A little (not too much or they rip) careful stretching will get you smoother strips, & if you don't press down hard at first, you can lift it up & reposition it as needed. Also, gently rubbing something like an orangewood stick over the fold will smooth it down. I cut most of the excess off, & then file off the rest, & save the extra pieces just in case I need to do some repair work during the week. I throw them away when I change my manicure. If I rip something when I'm first applying them, I cut a piece that matches where the rip is off of one the extra pieces & put it on top of the rip. Then gently smooth it with my finger. This makes a practically invisible repair, & putting a topcoat on it smoothes it all out. Edited February 24, 2015 by GaT 1 Link to comment
callie lee 29 February 25, 2015 Share February 25, 2015 Can any of you fashionistas recommend an on-trend nail color for a pedi? My feet are re-emerging from their wintry slumber and it's time to spruce up... (I am fair skinned, btw) Not sure how on-trend it is, but I always like doing a pretty lemon yellow with white tips. I also get a ton of compliments on it. 1 Link to comment

luckyroll3 February 26, 2015 Share February 26, 2015 Hello, I am Michelle and I am an Incoco addict. :) Girl, welcome! I too have recently started puffing on the Incoco pipe. I couldn't tell y'all how ecstatic I was when I spotted an Incoco display (albeit a tiny one) as I was leaving Walgreens the other day. Of course, I turned my ass around and bought a couple packs (they were St. Patrick's Day themed, and cheaper than the website @ $4.99 each). So excited! Link to comment
MiMi258 February 26, 2015 Share February 26, 2015 The reason that they are cheaper in Walgreens is because there are less in a pack. In their regular packs there are 16 strips. I wear 10 on my fingers and the remaining 6 on my toes. It works perfectly. I got some of the ones at Walgreens for Valentine's Day and there is only 12 in a pack. Not enough to do both hands and feet. I am really hard on my hands and the strips only last about a week on my hands. I have tried to put a top coat on to make them last longer and it seems to make them chip even faster if you can believe it. Has anyone had any luck with a good topcoat and if so, where can I find it? Link to comment
luckyroll3 February 27, 2015 Share February 27, 2015 My nails are short, so I'm able to use only 5 or 6 strips for just my hands and save the rest. So the cheaper packs still work for me. I use a Sally Hansen quick dry top coat, and it works really well. The ones I'm currently wearing just started to chip today and this is day 12! I reapply the top coat a week after and that seems to help. Link to comment

They're good & they last. I like either the normal emery boards you get everywhere and the Sephora Crystal Nail File. I really liked it so I second trying crystal/glass/diamond nail files. I also have the Revlon one, but it's not as good as the Sephora one. The biggest issue is that I've already broken two Sephora nail files. They are very fragile. Link to comment

Petunia13 April 19, 2015 Share April 19, 2015 If you use a white base coat you nail polish colors "pop" more since the natural shade if your nails isn't blending with the enamel color. 1 Link to comment

GaT April 30, 2015 Share April 30, 2015 If you like to use nail strips, Incoco has just come out with accent nail packs. Each pack only has 4 strips to use for accent nails. I love this idea, I'm always trying to use my leftover strips for accent nails, but they get dried out. I hope they make a lot of these http://www.incoco.com/perfect-accents Link to comment
Petunia13 May 16, 2015 Share May 16, 2015 I think I'm going to try kne of those home gel kits. I have my hands wet often and use a Dremel daily with dogs that may move so that will be a factor. A co worker gets gels but does get that filed chips from aggressive dogs sometimes. Link to comment
theredhead77 May 20, 2015 Share May 20, 2015 FWIW, I've had some friends who've had great success with it. Maybe the chemistry of people's nails (or what you do with them day-to-day) affects it? I was just so bummed that it chipped so quickly on me, because I would've been THRILLED to cut down my "go out and get a no-chip manicure" budget. I think it's the chemistry of peoples nails. I can't wear Julep or Formula X because they chip in a day or two of non-heavy hand use. I can wear Zoya for a week without issue. I also have crappy luck with "no chip top coats". They seem to make the polish chip even faster. 1 Link to comment
Petunia13 May 23, 2015 Share May 23, 2015 That's interesting. I tried a home gel manicure kit. They all chipped in hours. Link to comment
Athena May 23, 2015 Share May 23, 2015 I had my first experience with nail wraps this week in the form of Jamberry nails. My friend loves them and referred me to her Jamberry consultant. She sent me some samples that I put on two fingers (one on each hand) last Friday. They held up really well the first couple of days, but I found them starting to peel at the edges around 4-5 days. They had to be ripped off after a week. The one I applied on my right finger was done well IMHO: it did not touch the edges and it was solid the first two days. Oddly enough, it was the first to go before my left finger wrap. I frequently wash my hands, almost once an hour during the day and more so during certain activities: cooking/baking and cleaning. I didn't even go into the pool and I anticipate I will in the summer. I was really hoping these would last at least ten days. A week is decent amount of time when compared to nail lacquer, but I'm still debating if I should buy some sheets. Would like to know any other people's experiences with wraps. Link to comment
GaT May 24, 2015 Share May 24, 2015 I love nail stickers, & use them all the time, but I only use the type that is made of real nail polish, not any kind of vinyl (like Jamberry). I find vinyl wraps peel & curl up at the tips, also, I don't think they fit as smoothly, & I don't want to play around with blow dryers warming them up to apply them. I use either Sally Hansen or Incoco strips, & they last as long as nail polish does, which for me, is about a week. I like to change my mani once a week anyway, so they work perfectly for me. 2 Link to comment
luckyroll3 May 25, 2015 Share May 25, 2015 I also use the Sally Hansen and Incoco strips. Depending on how thick the strip is, I can actually get about 2, sometimes 2.5 weeks out of them. I find that the patterned/designed ones are thicker and sturdier than the single color ones. I love them, because I hate painting my nails, I hate going to the salon, and they can be applied in less than 20 minutes. Link to comment

ShaNaeNae December 2, 2015 Share December 2, 2015 (edited) Anyone like indies? I belong to all the Indie Facebook groups. I'm getting to where I'm pretty much only wearing indies and selling off my mainstreams (OPI, Essie, Zoya, etc). ShaNaeNae December 5, 2015 Share December 5, 2015 Oh yes, the new Star War colors are out! I've got on Girly Bits Ho Ho Hope but it's needing to come off. I love any color by Colors by Llarowe and yeah, she shut down the stockist part of her shop. I have an online friend that started a stockist shop, but she's in Singapore. I just usually buy direct from the maker. And whoever reads this, don't ever buy Mentality Polish. Google it, but they messed with the chemistry and anyone who used it are currently undergoing procedures to let their nails grow back out since it made their nails separate from their nail bed. The owner is a creep and refuses to stop selling to innocent people. It's not known exactly what batches this happened with and the way he's deflecting blame, not refunding money and still selling to innocent people is enough to just stay clear. Link to comment

phantom December 16, 2015 Share December 16, 2015 I'm currently wearing OPI Casino Royale, a gorgeous deep berry/plum color from the Bond collection that came out maybe 2 years ago. Despite being low key with my makeup and clothing, anything goes for my nail polish. I have a wide variety of colors and sparkles galore. I love shiny finishes- bought one of those texture finishes a few years ago and can't wear it without adding a ton of shiny top coat. Deep pinks, purples, silvers and some blues. I avoid yellow golds, browns, oranges and greens because they are unflattering on my very fair, cool skintone. My favorite holiday polish is Orly Smolder. It's this deep, rich cool-toned red with all kinds of shimmer. It was the last red I'll ever buy because it is perfect! Link to comment
