But you can't use that as an example because when Peter originally left the show, Bo was taking Caroline to get treatments and then she returned and there were still mentions of him as though he had stayed away and was still in touch with his family. It was only around the time Aiden appeared that they changed things so that Bo hadn't been in touch whatsoever with Hope and had essentially vanished.

Was that the original reason Bo was staying away after Caroline came back? Because the retcon was that Bo had followed a lead to find a cure for Caroline's Alzheimers and then ultimately was kidnapped and tortured by men who were working for Deimos.

...I missed a lot of today's episode, but the few parts I saw seems like everything we've been waiting two years for.

Except that I still think Freddie has become a lousy actor and I still think Sonny is full of it. All their conversation was about was getting Chad to tell him "No, no, its okay, nothing is your fault" and as soon as Chad said that Sonny was back to being happy-go-lucky about the wedding (I don't buy for a second that he listened to that voicemail at all in the last 2 years). I realize Sonny didn't do much to be sorry about, but the way Freddie played those scenes it just felt like he was Kate Mansi's Abigail, saying things without meaning them so that people would feel sorry for her and give her attention.

Christopher did a better job as Paul acknowledging that he should have left their marriage alone, but even then I feel like that should have been a really hard thing for Paul to finally say after all of this time. If they're going to do scenes that finally address how messed up everything was, can the actors at least look like these are deep dark subjects that upset them so much they haven't been able to deal with them before? Show me discomfort on your face! Show me some tears! Squirm a little! You're not talking about the weather - you're talking about the guy that died that both of you kind of screwed over in different ways.

I didn't find Bryan's delivery perfect but he was definitely bringing the most realistic emotions to the table. His last moments with Ghost Will were really, really moving. I wish Freddie and Christopher had gone to those places as well.

Is it some behind-the-scenes joke that Billy Flynn and Freddie Smith have a crush on each other? Because it seemed for over a year now that all of their scenes together involve some kind of bro flirting and Ron knowledging that today by having Chad kiss Sonny was kind of weird. They are always on the verge of laughter in their scenes and it bugs me. Stay in character!

I'll have more to say once I've watched the whole show properly tomorrow. But I'm looking forward to it. On paper this episode sounds like it was basically perfect.

And to whoever pointed out that JJ now suddenly looks like Jack, I noticed that too! It's like the beard changed the way I viewed the shape of JJ's chin LOL.

Yeah, when Bo returned after escorting Caroline to LA for her treatment he got a tip on some evidence he might be able to acquire that would bring down Stefano for good.  His exit story was him going deep undercover to get the information.  It was later retconned to include the Alzheimer's stuff and tie Diemos to it.

JJ is such a little hottie. Also, thank goodness Sonny got a makeover.

In real life, there would be so much more bitterness bubbling over in the Abby and Gabi interactions. The writing has given them just enough to plausible deniability to smile politely and choke that crap on down, though. Abby knows she mistakenly pushed them together, and Gabi knows Chad was ultimately the one to blame when it ended because in the end he simply wanted Abby more. I'm a little torn, because while I watch the scenes thinking "yeah, right..", I also think the actresses are really trying to portray that the characters do love one another. I don't hold it against Abby that she's encouraging Gabi to attend the wedding. It's a tough spot to be in with Ari being the flower girl.

It's nice to see the "real" Will. The recast simply didn't work for me. He tried his best, but the writing did him no favors.

Ghost Will still shipping Lumi was awesome. I'm not for it but it was a great way for Ron to say, "hey, we respect the history and this is where Lucas stands on it." Very well played. Lucas WOULD know that Will has always shipped his parents.

So Lucas is still pathetic and delusional and can't move on..nice..eyeroll..

Since Will stopped wanting his parents together after the last time when he was still a child and basically pitied any man that got involved with Sami, "ghost" Will is nothing than Lucas' drunken delusions. Last time, he dumped Sami because she refused to stay away from EJ and she then inserted Rafe again as the "good guy" vs EJ.

Honestly the problem is not even Lucas at this point..but the writers of this show..well it is always the writers obviously..but here i don't even pity Lucas the character but these freaking writers..they suck..so much..and if they read me : YOU ARE WELCOME suckers !! haha

So my opinions about the new writer(s):

THE GOOD

-I am thrilled that vets like Doug and Julie are finally being treated with respect.  They are soap royalty.  Doug got to give a bit of advice to Eric, and Julie was not even a bit of a harpy.   Thank you Ron!  This Julie of the past few years is NOT the Julie I grew up watching.

-Hattie and Mar were hysterical.  DHer did a really good job with Hattie in the scenes with Hope and the police station scenes.  I do wish Hope would have given her some money, bought her a plane ticket to Downtown Europe,  and let her walk.  Damn Hope - you owe her your LIFE.  Not half the tab from dinner.  Sheesh.  Twat.

-Kate.  Oh Kate.   LK is always a delight.  I swear I could watch an hour of her doing nothing but pecking at a fruit cup.  Something about her - even the way she eats - the way she holds her fork..,.  is just so...  elegant.

-John going gray:  damn, he looks 20 years younger.  DHe and DHer seem to be having a lot more fun.  Honestly it seems everyone is enjoying the new regime.

-I am liking the more relaxed Eli.  Maybe Gabi is bringing out the best in him.  I have noticed GB frequently brings out the best in her co-stars.  She and Kate both just sparkle.  It doesn't hut that GB is so damn pretty.  And don't even get me started on the hair.  That hair...   Oh...   Jealous...  Jealousy...  flames...  flames out of the sides of my face...

-Gabi being concerned about Drunk! Lucas! around Ari.  Furthermore, Drunk! Lucas calling everyone on their BS.

-Likable Abby playing referee in the Days version of Family Feud.   No way could the Kangaroo have pulled off the nuanced performances that MM has given.

-Even Rafe and Hope are almost bearable

-Gabi showing adorable Ari how to be a flower girl.  You could see in CB's eyes how conflicted she is because of all of the wedding ramifications, but she is really a natural with that kid.

-Nicole being allowed to be happy for 2.25 episodes.  My girl deserves nice things before she (sniffle) leaves Salem.  (disclaimer:  see note under: the bad).  Still I have to wonder, what the hell happened to Pookie???

-Someone mentioned upstream that Valerie has the best, kindest voice.  Must agree. (sorry to not remember who said that - catching up)

-Humor:  have to love some of the throw-away funny lines (not from Bonnie) but just in general - seems there is a bit more levity in Salem.

THE BAD:

-Jennifer's hair.

-Lucas and Brady both falling off the wagon.  Though Lucas actually falling was a bit funny.

-No Anne waiting in the wings to seduce a drunk Lucas.  Come on, show!

-Bonnie.  Ugh.  I find myself feeling embarrassed for JE.  That shit is hard to watch.

-Brady:  Oh Goodie.  Cro-Mag Brady is back.  I swear, he is one step from clubbing Nic over the noggin and dragging her back to his cave.  Dickhead.   I can see why she subtly plays Nicole as still having a thing for Eric - at least he has evolved past the Paleolithic Era.  Eric was, after all her *first luuuurve* - well, technically Jensen Ackles was, so I get it! I know AZ has a thing for hooking up with her leading men, did she get some of that yummy young JA?

-So many damn flashbacks to episodes that aired yesterday.  Considering how often Days has been interrupted, this may not truly be a bad thing, but grr.

-Claire manipulating Theo to get him back and him being all 'oh, yeah...  uhm...  okay" about it.   Though that may be more Ron white-out in action.

-Sheila.  Just...  no.

THE UGLY:

-Ghost Will?  Fuck.   Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck-fuck-fuuuuuuuck..  Damn, I wanted real RealWill back.  Hopefully Friday was a fake-out, but he had better NOT be a drunken mirage or I am going to dig out my letter opener of doom and go all Stabby Marlena on someone.  Please, someone tell me he was not a delusion and Will - RealWill! is really back...    (please)...

No real news here...  https://www.tvinsider.com/404340/days-of-our-lives-bryan-dattilo-lucas-dead-son-daytime/

Sorry to be Wordsworth.

I only got to see the first little bit today.  As this is my first time seeing this version of Will, he's like a nu-Will to me.  One first thought on watching him and Lucas together - he seems younger and more likely to be Lucas's son than the always looked older Guy Wilson version.

I loved Will in today's episode but seriously?! A ghost? A drunken delusion? I'll take most of my thoughts on that elsewhere but color me unimpressed.

Side note watching Chandler as Will is such a delight to me as I was not a Guy Wilson fan.

Other than that I haven't watched a whole episode in a long time but I'm not sure I fast forwarded much if I all today. I liked that change ever so much. Let's hope Carlivati can hold my interest for awhile.

I had no problems with Brady being awful to Kristen and Theresa. They are both vile and irredeemable. With Nicole, it is different. The Nicole/Brady dynamic reminds me of an abused woman and her batterer. Nicole is trying hard not trigger a reaction out of Brady. She gives in to him, to not upset him and it makes me very uncomfortable to watch. I have seen too many women in real life act like Nicole.

When Nicole is good and ready she can take care of herself.  She has proven it in the past.

  • But, yes, Paul DID help cause the demise of WilSon. He was everywhere Sonny was ON PURPOSE to try to keep him in his life. He didn't give WilSon room to figure out if they could get over/through the cheating. He was always there hoping to get Sonny back. Paul is not a saint in the aftermath of the cheating reveal. Will pushed it all over the edge with his bullshit scheming, etc... but he acted out like that b/c he was desperate to keep Sonny when Paul was everywhere they were. Yes, Will is to blame for the marriage vow break. Paul definitely contributed after the fact. Don't get me started on Sonny and his enabling of Paul's feelings.

Even then, Paul could, at best, be considered the spark.  But not even close to the overall cause.  How Will chose to handle the whole situation with Paul in the picture is what ultimately caused his and Sonny's split.  NOT Paul himself.  And yes, perhaps Sonny could've asked Paul nicely to keep his distance from them, and that was another reason he was even that close to them in the first place, but I guess he felt confident enough in their marriage healing despite him being around because Paul never once made a move on him after he learned of their marriage (at least not one that I can remember).  Meanwhile, Will was doing all sorts of shit to try and ruin Paul behind the scenes, including bringing his mother, who was innocent, by the way, into it.  That was all kinds of wrong.

So no.  I do not subscribe to Paul being the reason Will and Sonny's marriage went down in flames.  Not in the slightest.  It seems like everyone who wants to blame him for it are simply those who don't like him or even hate him for whatever reason.  Nothing more, nothing less.  I don't love him myself, but I certainly don't put the bulk of what happened on him.  Not even close.  As far as I'm concerned, what happened to Will and Sonny was on Will first, Sonny second, and Paul a veeeeeeeery distant third.

What a good time it's been to come back to the show.  Today was sterling, from beginning to end.

I never expected that I'd enjoy a conversation between Jennifer and Kate but this, THIS was so much better than I could ever have expected.  Ron C. let them have an actual, adult, compassionate conversation - and I liked both of them, for all the right reasons.

Same with Abigail and Gabi.  That herd of elephants in the room got addressed and just like Kate and Jenn, we saw an adult interaction.  I really like Marci, too.

JJ, my man JJ......he just gets better and better, doesn't he?

Bryan Dattilo really brought it again today, IMO.  As did Chandler, who turned in a strong performance.  Bravo to both of them.

Sonny and Sparkle, though....... Okay, I liked Sonny back when he was with Will but since then, not so much.  I think he was right to leave Will when he did - Will was absolutely horrible, untrustworthy, and the best thing Sonny could do was get away from the muck Will kept playing in.  I didn't think he abandoned Ari.  Show never said much of anything which, when I thought about it, which admittedly was rare, I assumed he was in touch with her, mainly because Show was never shy about dissing Steve, or Jack or Bo to drive home the point that they had abandoned their families.  (Which, I agree with Apprentice79 was total bullshit, that wasn't their M.O.s at all)  So since Sonny wasn't shanked in that manner, then to me it said he wasn't a bad guy in that regard.  But to tell the truth it was never an issue with me anyway.

But Sonny, from before I took a break, then when I would dip back in to reconnoiter, and since I started watching again, has become a pompous gasbag and I wouldn't believe him if he said the sky was blue.

And Sparkle Pretty annoyed me from his first day and he still does.  He was a sleazebag with all his "concern" and backhanded butting in he did with Sonny when he and Will were having problems and no matter what Show has done with him since, I just DO NOT CARE.  He's not strong enough of a character or an actor to overcome his retconned origin story, I haven't seen him have chemistry with anyone, especially Sonny, unless it might be his own reflection and it wouldn't bother me if he disappeared like that unknown daughter of Maggie's - what was her name? - who came and went so quickly.  He wasn't the reason, IMO, not even close, that Will and Sonny's marriage took a hit - that was, IMO, solidly on Will.

Difference is, this time he could take Sonny with him.  I liked Will except for when I didn't, and mostly hated his death because he was an important part of Salem history so while I'm looking forward to his return, he's not  that big of a deal for me.  But he sure as hell deserves better, a LOT better than the character got handed in his last year on the show.

Maybe there'll be a coaching position open for Paul when it comes to January - pre-Spring training!

Will messed up his relationship and marriage to Sonny. Maybe just too young and immature to get married. Needs some time to live his life.

Not sure what to make of ghost-Will or drunken delusion-Will. Lucas' flask seemed to be one of the never-ending booze kinds. They aren't that big.

JJs facial hair is making him look less baby-faced.

Jen's hair was a bit better - enjoyed her chat with Kate. Also enjoyed Gabi and Abs - behaving like adults. Refreshing to see.

I thought Freddie did better today than he has lately -- as I say, I usually like him better in scenes with Billy Flynn. And I did believe that Sonny misses Will acutely.

I don't actually buy that Sparkle and JJ have this kind of heart-to-heart friendship, and it doesn't make a lot of sense for Sparkle to be asking Sonny's cousin if Sonny and Will had a true love. Has Sparkle just not been paying attention? Is he really that self-absorbed? Wait, don't answer! I think I know this one... (Also, what was up with Sparkle ... tickling JJ on his ear? W - what? Does Sparkle think JJ is eight?)

Man, Lucas was killing me today! I thought the scenes with Will worked in a way that his screechy ranting in the church earlier didn't. And, ahem, when Lucas talked about Will as a baby, compared to the loss he feels now? "I couldn't sing to my boy." Well, let's just say there was some ugly crying involved. Not sayin' who, but ...

I really like the chemistry that Dattilo and Massey still have -- I can't help wondering if part of how well today went was coming from how much Dattilo likes playing off Massey, just from how clearly and naturally the father-son dynamic comes across on screen.

Actually, I liked almost everything today: Jennifer's scenes with Kate; Chad and Sonny; Gabi, Ari and Abigail. Even Judgy Jen's pursed-mouth parsimony was softened a bit, somehow -- though the Goody Proctor hair really has to go.

Everybody make it through okay? Not too many skulls dented from the "Gee, let's mention Sami and Ben as well as Will" anvils? I thought the "You and Paul have a future" might have been laying on juuuust a little thick. Still, I'm more invested than I have been in ages.

When did Stefano's portrait get put back up in the DiMansion?

Sonny's hair looks so much better.

You could see Billy wanting to cry while he was talking to Sonny.

How did Adrienne keep Lucas sober, he was sober for years without her.

Some really great conversations today.

Sonny bunny?  LOL

The flask dropping out of Lucas's hand was sort of awkward.

I often wonder how much of that is Billy's personality/ad libs/improv and how much is scripted. God, he's so hilarious.  I can NOT wait for Chill V2.0 b/c I would ship Chad/Will (Chill - hee) in the form of Billy/Chandler. But I'm crazy like that. Seriously though: I want the Chill friendship back. They were friends first with a TON of history and I feel like when the Will and Chad recasts happened, they back burnered the history of Chill and sacrificed it to the altar of Sonny/Chad.

Today's Ep (yesterday's b/c I wasn't online last night)...I watched 3 times and didn't fast forward one second. I enjoyed every bit of it. I haven't done this in years. Maybe ever.

  • Paul/JJ: I don't get the friendship but I'll take it. It is pretty good. (Shallow: I'm diggin' Casey's facial hair. RAWR)  I loved that Paul asked those questions...finally. This is a convo he and Sonny should have had as soon as they started dating again...not a week before their wedding and to Sonny's cousin. I loved that JJ was honest about WilSon for the good and bad. Yes, it was true love. Yes, they fought hard to be together. Yes, they were happy before Paul...and I LOVED LOVED LOVED that JJ added, "For the most part." Because yes, they were having issues before Paul: money, communication, etc..
  • Sonny/Chad: those things also needed to be said. While I'm not that keen on Chad poo-pooing some of what Sonny said, I'm glad that he was supportive. I don't buy into Sonny's feelings here b/c of the acting "choices" but I can see where Ron is coming from writing it that way. Sonny should feel some of this. It's natural...whether it's justified or not. No it's not his fault Will died but yes, you did run away and leave him...again, whether leaving was justified or not.
  • Will/Lucas: right now Will is 100% Lucas' drunken mind. He's Lucas' conscience and inner thoughts and feelings. This is why I loved the discussion about Sami. It's how LUCAS feels. He was questioning if he and Sami could/should get back together and reasoned it out that no, their time as a romantic couple had passed (at least for now). Will was the perfect one to have that discussion with since (up until about 2013) he was their number one shipper. It was a wonderful discussion of Lucas thinking through his actions on both sides. Will represented his angel and Lucas himself voiced the devil on the other shoulder. I think Bryan slayed these scenes. He can be a tad bit of an "over actor" sometimes and yes, this was BIG...but I think he's doing a wonderful job. Chandler is understated and beautiful, as always. I can't wait until he has scenes that require more than being the quiet voice of reason. I'm assuming we're getting that when [insert spoilers etc...LOL]

That was for sure BF/FS in that scene, they've been joking & playing around about a kiss for years. They must have asked or added it.

I don't know what I think of the Will/Lucas scene. Loved seeing Will again and his trying to save Lucas. However, he really didn't come across as the last version of CM's Will that we got.  Or even the last version of GW's Will that we got. The bringing up Sami to Lucas seemed out of place. Isn't Sami supposed to be off with not dead EJ somewhere? Or searching for him still? CM's Will basically loved EJ more than anyone (lol) which I think this writing version threw me off as not being very "Will."

JJ admitting how screwed up he was back in the day was .  Knowing this is so hard for me to take him seriously as a cop, especially a plain clothes one.

By the way, can someone tell me what happened to JJ's sidekick Rory?  How did he leave the show?

He didn't so much leave as peter out. He was arrested when he was left holding some drugs by some other hooligans, and then JJ tried to cut him a plea bargain but Roman read him the riot act and reminded him he isn't the District Attorney and can't promise stuff like that. Rory ended up getting sentenced but first went over to the hotel where JJ was banging Gabi and punched him out. We never really got a follow-up to that scene which I found very odd. Maybe something was cut, like the convo they had after JJ picked himself up off the floor.

After that, he reappeared last fall (I think?) as a random internet date of Ciara's and was clearly high while they ate their food at Mandalay. She didn't swoon. Last time we saw him was when Hope and Rafe leaned on him for information about Deimos and he followed the guy and realized he was the one who bought a drug from him that ended up hurting Maggie. So the last time we saw him he was helpful to the good guys, but we haven't heard a peep about him since.

Oh Sandman, I adore you - always admire your witty posts, and I pray to Zeus that you are right.  If it's just Ghost/Drunken!Delusion Will...   Oh...   There will be a scathing letter sent to Mr Ron C.!

We also had a Ciara mention.

Roman does fit better running the pub JMHO.   Glad he did not go back to police department

Does Claire still own a night club?   She can give hers to whoever doesn't get TTB

Chloe and Brady were very sweet together.  Then she left and Brady went nuts.  He needs some serious help.

Billy Flynn has chemistry with everybody.

Billy Flynn and Lauren Koslow both have chemistry with everybody, everything, and the damn lamps.  Those two are the Days' MVPs in my opinion.

Slightly OT - finally got Netflix and was able to see Blake Berris' (ex Nick Fallon - a legacy character who was slaughtered by the writing regime of the day: cough : sorry, I digress) - finally saw his amazing movie "House of last things".   I know I am bit behind the curve, but if you loved BB as Nick - it is an amazing movie.  Labeled 'horror' for lack of a better genre bucket to stick it in, but it's a quiet, thoughtful, smart,  beautiful movie.  BB is a-flipping-mazing in it.  Must see.

Just popping in (as I randomly did one time before):

- Bully!Brady is my least favorite Brady.  I loved him with Theresa when they were sweet on each other. I felt like she loved him so very much that he never had the jealousy issue. I'm presuming it's the cursed idol.  Someone needs to throw that in the ocean.
- Eric, Eric, Eric.  Greg is doing a reasonable job, IMO, of a man who knows he's in hot water and just can't help himself.  But is her really about to kiss Nicole? And Nicole was literally GUSHING over Eric.  Like moth to a flame.
- Am I the only one who likes Rafe?  Cause I like Rafe.  Doesn't mean I always watch his scenes, just that I like him.
- LOVED the Kate/Jen moment.
- Chad (Billy) looks so effortlessly GOOD with just about everyone.
- I want Chloe to get the club.

Sadly, yes, you are.  I used to, way back when, but he's eroded my liking for him majorly over the past few years.

That's okay. I'm used to be 'the cheese that stands alone'.

I'm glad Mr. Mumbles is sticking with the chowder, but I'll regret my words if this means we get 2!, 2!, 2 Mints as one!! aka Hope and Rafe as co tinpot dictators.

Doug was sweet today without being over the top.  Julie, on the other hand......she mugs so badly for the camera she's a walking example of our mothers telling us If you keep making that face it will stay that way forever.

Great post!  However, I'd forget the idol and toss Brady in the ocean.  And I hope Chloe gets the club, too.

BTW, any mention of what's happened to Caroline?  I miss seeing Peggy McKay.

See, if nothing else I choose to believe that Will must eventually be Actual! Will found alive (somehow), since it seems implausible that multiple people (or even just poor, sodden Lucas) should remain drunk and/or despairing enough over a period of months to keep seeing Ghost!Angel!DrinkyProjection! Will for however long Massey's contract is for. But then, "implausible" is more or less used for pocket change in this freaky-ass town.

Roughly 84.17% of Brady's storylines can be summarized thus: "Brady and ______ were very sweet together. Then _____ left / died / went to the fridge for a snack and Brady lost his damn mind." Bonkers Black may be beyond help. But he should listen to his father.

But, wait -- how can Salem support so many clubs? HTS holds basically every business that isn't the Brady Pub, and that place can't be making money. It's always three-quarters empty and Roman keeps feeding his family members free chowder and beer! Club TBD should be Club NSF.

And I think the storyline is kind of leaden and obvious, but Greg Vaughn is certainly doing a vivid sketch of a man wrenched completely around with yearning and self-distrust. (Can Nicole really not read his anguish at all?)

Chloe would probably make a good owner for the club. Although Salem does seem to be rather small to support all those restaurants and clubs. Doug's former place on the lake seems so 70s and 80s now. Unless they are going for a retro/Mad Men vibe. And even then, it just seems out of date.

Brady, throw the amulet in to the Salem River or wherever. You are going off the deep end regarding your Nicole jealousy. You may simply be part of a self-fulfilling prophecy, the way you are going. Nicole has something to do that she enjoys. Let her do what she wants.

Geez, Salem folks. Hope and Rafe have been engaged for seemingly two weeks and no wedding date set? What is the rush - a sale at the store on home goods? Asking a year or so down the road, maybe.

Can't see Commissioner Hope or Rafe. Eli would be a better choice. He also has FBI connections.

"Chonny" makes a fairly ungainly portmanteau word, even as these things go.

Eli's "doesn't always" still makes him massively better qualified than the Brady standard for following the rules, which is "almost never."

Isn't Eli much too young and lacking in the experience department for that position?   Plus he admitted how he doesn't always follow the rules.

I like Rafe as well.  Then again, I like almost everyone on the show.  Back to Rafe, I will say that I don't want him with Hope.  They are very lacking in chemistry.
