Riley has spent the day at the hospital, but I can go get her in about an hour.  It is so damn weird when she's not here!  Still many tests pending that have to be sent to outside labs, but from the battery done in-house, thus far it looks like another occurrence of her mystery digestive issue from three years ago.  Which is really frustrating, when even specialists can't find what's causing it, but it will be nice if it turns out there's no new, additional problem.

The best part is her baseline kidney values are lower than the last time checked, so I can go ahead and give her all the chicken breast and chicken liver she wants (which is all she'll eat when she doesn't feel well) to get her over the hump and keep her from developing hepatic lipidosis, because the temporary increase in kidney values that will cause will not go high enough to cause a problem.

So, fingers crossed no additional problems pop on any of the tests, but I'm really happy with how her x-ray looks and thrilled about the kidneys, so I feel a lot better than the nervous wreck I was yesterday and all last night.  It's torture when my baby doesn't feel well, so hopefully this doesn't linger too long this time.

Im sure she is misses you and will appreciate the chicken!

She refused to speak to me until we got in the car, and she was a little out of sorts when we first got home, but then we got in bed and I was forgiven.  I'm hoping her exhausting, stressful day outweighs her discomfort and she can get some good sleep.  She's had some chicken and liver, plenty of water, and maybe ten pieces of dry food (she will not eat her canned food when she's sick -- and, of course, she got sick literally one day after two cases of said food arrived from Chewy).  It will be several days before I have all the test results in, but I'm glad so far there's nothing life threatening indicated.  I just would like to know what causes this recurring issue (which is now recurring more frequently) or at least how to get her feeling better faster.

I'm about to go get back into bed with her, now that I've finally had something to eat for the first time today.  (I love that when she doesn't feel well she just wants to cuddle with Mommy more, rather than hiding.  I just wish she felt well enough to conk out into deep sleep rather than it being sporadic.)

I've spent the last few nights, in the bathroom with my dog. He's terrified of the fireworks, and it seems like he's been even more anxious this year. :( I'm wondering if it's the loss of our other dog, and two of our cats.. plus the stress of other things on top of that. My poor baby.

We were at the drive-in on Friday, and someone set off fireworks in the next field, for a while. We weren't expecting that to happen there, and had him with us. So he was crammed onto my lap, and then squeezed into the area in front of my seat, then maybe ninety minutes later, climbed into my lap, and started to people-watch.

I really do hate that some people are so obsessed with blowing up their wallets with fireworks. I love professional fireworks, but these neighborhood shitshows are beyond ridiculous, and in my opinion, should be banned for the greater good. Little Bobby and Sally don't need to hold a 700f degree torch in their little fingers to enjoy Independence Day, any more than a bunch of drunks need to send explosives into the air, cuz 'freedom'.

Today I have a new member of the family!  (Photo courtesy of the Humane Society, since Primetimer doesn't like my photos.)

During my lengthy phone interview, I was warned me that she was very shy and fearful and would need an enclosed area to chill out, and that it might take her a day or two to adjust and start to explore or interact.  After a meet and greet, I brought her home.

Right.  Within 10 minutes she found all the places I don't dust, got into the supposedly closed-off and thankfully clean fireplace, had a snack, peed in the litter box, played with the lovely packing paper in a Nordstrom box, had a snack, sat on my lap for two minutes, and more.

So far, so good, I guess.

(No fixed name yet - the one she came with is ridiculous.  It's a toss-up between Stinky and Delilah, so I'm guessing she'll be Stinky Delilah.)

Her Royal Highness does not approve of "Stinky".  Now bring me another peeled grape, human!

Well, she's already proving to be very cute, and a little naughty!

The song is new to me, but so far the lyrics are working, and thankfully I don't have a Chippendale Suite for her to pee on.

I recently learned (here) that Freddie Mercury was a cat lover, but I didn't realize he had one called Delilah or that he'd written a song for her.  Seems like destiny.

(I'll try not to think too much about Tom Jones's Delilah, since she turned out to be a homicidal maniac.)

Update: BB’s cataract is progressing, but gratefully his Uveitis is under control with the two different eye drops he gets daily. He has dieted from 24 lbs down to 14. This took 18 months, but he’s been a very good sport about it. Next I’m considering putting him on the Solensia drug when he sees the vet for his 6 month check up later this month. She said it would be fine, but I’m still doing research. (According to her he can have 2 doses 30 days apart. Then needs to have a break as she’s seen too many felines have a dermatitis side effect if they continue with it every month) The vet he sees for his eyes is a specialist.
Since he will be 20 in 3 months I consider everything day a blessing.

This is his sister Squeaky. She’s been fine ever since she had the radiation treatment for her thyroid 3 years ago. They are the same age.

How can you not love them when they look at you like this?

Delilah's latest discovery: even though she can execute an impressive standing 4-foot jump, employing it to access my mantelpiece is not the most rewarding use of this skill.  (Where can I sign her up for the kitty Olympics?)

I don't know whether it's revenge for suggesting I call her Stinky or just the change in diet, but Delilah is proving herself to be the mistress of SBD farts (Silent But Deadly for those who grew up with more refined school friends than me).

When I had Peaches she would toot and she would look at her butt accusingly like "How dare you!"

Maddie never farted (at least not that I could ever hear or smell), but Baxter did occasionally and once did a fart so loud it sounded for all the world like it had come from a human, causing Maddie to walk over to him, look at his butt, and then look him in the face with an expression that couldn't have any more clearly expressed "What in the world just happened in your ass?" if she'd spoken it in English.

I don't think I've ever had a cat that farted (at least not as far as I could tell), but my current cat expresses his displeasure (I'm assuming it's displeasure - maybe it's concern?) if someone sneezes or coughs when he's around (kind of a "yerp!").  I assume he would equally disapprove of farting, but I try to avoid that when I'm around other living beings.
