Oh, man, I burst out laughing at all the cars speeding off when Jacob hit the siren noise on his bullhorn XD. Reminded me of the "Frasier" episode where Frasier and Niles are trying to run a restaurant and Niles mentions that the head of the immigration department is one of their customers...and all the chefs in the kitchen flee out the door :p. 

Also loved, 

"There's nothing in the Bible about smoking weed."

"They do say something about a burning bush, though!" 

But wow, getting Jill Scott, that's quite a win indeed! Love that Ava and Barbara both found ways to help save the day and help raise the money they needed. And of course Ava wants to come back...and I like that she actually admitted that to Janine. 

Also loved watching everyone dancing at the end, that was so fun. I'd go to that block party!

Poor Gregory, being stuck dealing with all the parents needing to gripe to him about this and that. And then Amber on top of it all. But indeed, he did handle himself well, and awwww, Jabari misses having him as his teacher :(. But now that Ava wants to come back, maybe Jabari will get his wish sooner than he thinks :).

Why am I not surprised that Janine played the triangle? Or that Mr. Johnson went to a "church" that promised him his own planet? 

Keep in mind, the last parent Gregory talked to wanted to fight him, so I understand his hesitation to talking to them. (And Darnell showed up!) And he got insanely lucky the first parent he met asked about the Garden Goofballs.

Why am I not surprised that Ava knew lots of high-profile donors drug dealers? Jacob's megahorn having a siren that chased them all off gave me the biggest laugh of the episode. That, and Darnell calling out Gregory for looking at the camera.

I'm gonna assume Barbara nabbing Jill Scott for Ava Fest is a big deal. I'm uh, a tad whiter than Jacob and don't know who that is. And of course Mr. Johnson is a psycho fan.

"Mr. Johnson is not my jurisdiction." So, Mr. Johnson just goes where duty calls. Sometimes its a Lysol commercial. Like he'd spring for Lysol. He's got some weird secret cleaning concoction and wouldn't go near THOSE chemical.

So all those parents showed up, in the rain, at the last minute, for Ava Fest, and then had to pony up in order to stay to see Jill Scott, who no one knew was coming?  I didn't understand the logistics.  Who was collecting the additional money?  Who carries enough cash with them (except drug dealers?)  The time period was just too compressed.

They were trying to make $700?  I wonder how much that would buy.  One laptop and some gym equipment?  They lost so much more than that.

SNL does it too.  I guess they think people might not fast forward if the commercial initially looks like part of the show. 

I didn't like the episode.  Too much going on, jokes not really landing and making Mr. Johnson into a creepy stalker doesn't seem like the best plot development.  

And, it might just be me, but I don't find Darnell threatening physical violence over Jabari's report card all that funny.  Parents like that are why schools have to have security.       

On the positive side, I bet I could dig out a class picture of my mother from when she was a teacher in the early 1970s wearing the same pantsuit the librarian had on.

I wish they'd keep Mr. Johnson in the background more because I do not find him funny at all. The Jill Scott stalker thing was super creepy. I think the show would be better suited if his character were like Creed from The Office. Very weird, full of weird and random life experiences, but never in the forefront of any storyline or eclipsing the main characters. I loved him popping up last episode as Ava's hype man slash t-shirt launcher. That's the perfect type of use for him. 

Ava,  on the other hand, has somehow become one of my favorites, which I never would have expected during the first season. 

Poor Gregory. He really isn't suited for social interaction. I kept thinking about the scene a couple weeks ago with him rehearsing a basic greeting and small talk for his Uber riders. Poor guy.

Didn't the school lose the money for the counselor when the school district found out about all the new equipment?

I'm not all that familiar with Jill Scott as a singer. I knew she sings, but what I know her for is playing Precious Ramotswe in The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency. That was years ago, but even now when I read one of the books, I picture her as Precious.

I didn't get it either. She shows up at the last minute, so how would people coming to the block party know about it? It doesn't make sense that unless people gave money to see her, they'd be forced to leave.

For a second I thought someone else was playing Darnell. Yes, it was still Langston Kerman, but he looked different to me.

One little joke I liked was at the beginning when Janine came in and told Gregory he needed to come outside. She gave a little jump, and Gregory said, "OK. Stay on the ground."

Exactly.  I don't even know why all the drug dealers were able to/wanted to show up in the final hour or so of the car wash.  Did they all owe Ava favors?  As I said above, too may things happened in too little time.  For instance, how did all those booths get set up in the gym/food get prepared with only an hour to go?

I noticed that, too.  He really knows her.

I do think that during the open house, Gregory was gaining the necessary people skills for the job.  (It's not like Ava chose to use her abundant social skills for good when she first became principal.)  And Dia started to think so, too!

I looked back at the episode where Ava was fired.  They said they would be taking back any money given to the school during the budget meeting, so that would include their funding for a counselor.

My only mild gripe with this episode was when Ava mentioned almost convincing Stevie Wonder that Abbott was the Staples Center. I get that Staples Center, like Madison Square Garden, is universally recognized by name and the joke wouldn't have landed if she had referenced the Wells Fargo Center, but for some reason it took me out of the episode for a second. 

They need to team up with the deli across the street for a hoagie fundraiser. I'm ALL ABOUT the hoagie fundraisers. 🤤

Lots of funny bits in this episode, but Dia doing the "aliens from Signs" walk is still making me laugh a day later. "She's still doing it isn't she?" 

Very cool seeing Jill Scott, loved everyone dancing together. And Ava even admitting that she misses Abbot and wants to be back in some way, which is much better than her needing to come back or everyone begging her.

I was miffed that Barbara alone got to decide that they weren't going to use the money from the drug dealers. What did they do with the cash -- throw it in the garbage? It's not like they could give it back. That was BS.

Between that and the repeated proud declarations that she was *not* going to help wash cars, I agree with others who said last week the show is turning Barbara into a villain. She's been insufferable this season. She only redeemed herself by getting Jill Scott to show up.

A bunch of drug dealers go to Barbara's church. Hmm, might be money laundering.

Actually there's some speculation going around that Stevie Wonder isn't really blind. And he's not denying it, much.

Gregory, you better not abandon Jabari. He's already dropped from an A+ to an A. You don't want that Darnell smoke.

Ehh, I've been feeling a way about Jill Scott ever since she defended Chris Brown after his incident with Rihanna. Love "Golden" though.

Yeah, I went back and re-watched it. Barbara said she could get some high profile people from her church to show up. I thought they were the drug dealers and Barbara hadn't realized before that's what they were until Melissa said it. So now I'm wondering why Ava knows so many drug dealers.
