S18.E16: The Experts Have Questions

Recommended Posts

Madison is not nearly as contrite as she should be in this first conversation with Michelle, and David chiming in in Madison’s defense isn’t helping. In Michelle’s shoes, I’d leave (as she did), tell the experts I want a divorce and why, and I’d be as done with them as my contract would allow, and just wash my hands of the whole situation once filming was over. Chalk it up as a mistake.

David looks like SHIT first thing in the morning.

I like that Karla isn’t letting Madison skate so easily. She won some points with me when she point blank said the situation was dirty and fucked up.

Michelle just wants to be in the right, instead of the wrong, regarding her feelings toward David. This text gives her that. So now she can talk about how he's been a cheater more so than an ambition-less guy living in his parents' basement.

What's really ticking me off, is that it seems like the show is hoping the viewers will warm up to David and Madison's budding romance. They keep showing them together, hugging and reassuring each other. No, I am not here at all for this couple, not like this.

So the show did a super cut of all the David and Madison clues, including the late night camera footage of them coming home to their separate apartments at the same time.   I think Production knew what was going on before the retreat.

And while Emem wasn’t wrong in what she said to Ikechi, I really wish she would have done it differently.  She came across bitter and he’s not worth the effort

Why does this bother you.  Its the expert's fault.  They should have paired David with Madison, and Allen with Em or someone who likes him romantically. The experts always do this, then the contestants get blamed.  Why do they live together. Who made that decision.  Its just tempting fate. David and Madison deserve each other-however that turns out. It sucks that Allen got treated this way.

So, David and Madison couldn’t have waited a couple of weeks, went to Decision Day, both said No, and then hooked up later on when the show was over.  Drama.

If they are actually in love with each other, then no.  Human emotion doesnt work that way.  If production didn't force them to live together, than yes, I would blame David.

Ah, where to begin . . .

1.  Shut up, "Pastor" Cal.  No one believes that Michelle was ready to "turn the corner" about hating David - are you stupid, another gaslighter on Ikechi's level, or just so not into this show that you've watched exactly NONE of the footage?

2.  Shut up, Michelle.  I can understand why you're playing the victim and acting pissed off, but we all know you are thrilled to not be seen as the "bad guy" here.  But you and Allen are not on the same level at all.

3.  Shut up, Ikechi, you nasty ***.  My only problem with Emem is that she took this long to call you out for the disgusting garbage that you are.

Who doesn't need to shut up?  Karla - she did a great job of calmly and kindly telling Madison that what she did was wrong and why she doesn't want to be her friend.

Also Thomas, who said, "We are here to be married."  I can't get all incensed about David because his marriage was nothing, but adult humans should be able to wait 8 weeks for nookie.

One final thought, which was most prevalent in my mind throughout the show (when I wasn't telling people to shut up):  If David and Madison have a child, it will have the thickest, most bulbous nose ever!!! 😳

Karla was the MVP of this episode. I loved how she gave Madison the business in such a straightforward, matter-of-fact way. She is really funny sometimes with her one-liners too. "So is this your honeymoon?"  🤣 Her body language towards David when he was leaving the retreat had me cracking up too. She clearly did not want his shady energy mixed up with hers. 😆

Yes.

I just don't believe everything went down the way they are saying and it was just emotional. People reach for its fake so much on reality. Some people are just this dumb. The producers stumbled onto a gold mine and are milking it. They didn't create it.

She was the bomb! If looks could kill...

I was zipping past the commercials and think I missed a segment. I saw Emem and Ikechi with the experts, but I thought it was when they show snippets of upcoming segments. I deleted the episode right after viewing. Did I miss anything of importance re Emem and Ikechi?

I don’t know either.  I went to sleep when I saw there was no After Party with Keisha.  Maybe it’s on my tape.  Have to look see.   I’m wondering if Michelle and Allen would have been good for each other.  Maybe they would get together?  They both have something in common.  Screwed !

"Why does this bother you?" Why does anyone else's opinion bother you?

Moreover, "[h]uman emotion" does not ever require human action. Plenty of people in history and fiction attest to the possibility and the power of self-restraint no matter if the "human emotion" is love, anger, pity, or any other feeling.

IOW, Madison and David don't get a "the heart wants what it wants (tm Woody Allen)" pass from me.

Madison was adamant about being matched with a white guy, but admitted she has dated black men in her past. So she is attracted to people of color, but actually marrying them is a different story for her. Yikes!!! David is so obsessed with having a blonde barbie as arm candy that he was not even alarmed by what she was saying.

Good move from Allen refusing to entertain a conversation with Madison after she was too cowardly to even tell him the truth. It's clearly eating away at her and you love to see it.

Yep. You can’t control how you feel, but you can, should, and in some cases must, control what you do. Even if this were The Greatest Love of All, and I don’t think it is (David seems more into it than Madison does), we’re talking about 8 weeks. In the show’s timeline, I think they’re a WEEK from decision day. Madison was going to say no; Michelle was going to say no. Wait the week, end your marriages, and THEN have the “I have feelings” conversation. (In the preview, Madison says “I think we know David and Michelle weren’t going to stay married,” I think as a way of defending herself, which IMO makes her look worse, because again, we’re talking about a matter of days.) Juan rightfully pointed out the lack of trust, and I would add “poor impulse control.” As Pastor Cal said, there’s a tactful way to do this, and this wasn’t that - and the tactful way isn’t complicated or long. These aren’t middle-aged people with mortgages waiting 5 years for their kids to leave home before divorcing. We’re talking about 8 weeks start to finish, with people for whom “moving out” means literally packing a bag and going home.

Yep. Often when people demand closure from people they’ve wronged, they do so to make THEMSELVES feel better. I think that’s what Madison is trying to do. If Allen forgives her and hugs it out or whatever, she doesn’t have to feel guilty anymore. It’s eating at her that she’s denied that. She can’t control his side of the situation. And he’s right that nothing she could say would change anything. “I didn’t mean to hurt you…” well, you did. Next!

Karla has annoyed me the entire season, but I really liked her here. She was clear in her position, explained it, and her expressions in that conversation were hilarious. “Eat what?”

Emem looked gorgeous in that orange but the letter made her look petty.

Camille and Thomas give me buddy vibes. I think they’ll say yes but won’t make it long-term.

Karla was the winner of this episode for me.  I loved the way she talked so calmly to Madison.  She was knocking her down without raising her voice.  I also laughed when she easily made that basket without looking like she was even trying.

Madison and David make me sick.  The sounds of their voices annoy me.  They truly do deserve each other.  They talk to each other trying to justify their bad actions.  If they wanted to be together they could have ended their marriages honestly and then hooked up.  Since they obviously could not wait the 8 weeks.  Both of them kept using the word HONESTLY.  They have to tell everyone they are talking to about being honest.  Anyone that has to keep telling everyone that they are being honest is usually lying.

David has given Michelle her out.  David and Madison can stay in the gutter (or his parents' basement) together and giggle and eat tacos.

I heard when the season started that all of David's old girlfriends said he was a cheater.  They did not understand why he wanted to be married when he could never be faithful.  I hope Madison is happy with that.

The editors or camera people obviously knew what was going on between Madison and David.  I wish they could tell them they broke their contract by cheating and deny them their pay.  It would be the right thing to do.

Exactly... why does Michelle care? She cares because it gives her something to let her try to save face from being the mean girl from the beginning. Now she can claim she knew "in her gut" that David was "cheating". She enjoys having the spotlight now of playing a victim and twisting facts around to benefit her. She's all smiles on the After Party shows now that she feels she's convinced everyone she wanted the marriage to succeed but David "done her wrong".

I really hope Camille says no on Decision Day.  She's not into Thomas like he's into her.

I would have thought David and Madison would have talked about the conversation they were going to have with the "experts" before going in.  That is, I was surprised at how forthcoming David was about his feelings towards Madison. Madison, on the other hand, seemed to take a "I need time to figure this out" stance.  He should have said the same thing.   They should have played it cool.

Emem's letter made her look petty and I was hoping she would have taken the high road.  The letter kind of undid everything she had worked for, keeping calm, throughout her past conversations with Ikechi.

I think Allen gathered up the spices because they were his.

David and Madison straight up lying about having been intimate.  They must think we are blind.  Or stupid.  We are neither.

In a word...no. If it happened the beans would spill and the show would be in serious trouble.

Michelle should be a detective, Karla should be a diplomat. That was a clever exchange on her part where she lambasted Madison for outrageous conduct with the Midas touch.

OK Madison, I'll say it.  You did something wrong and you're a bad person.

When she said she didn't want to hear that from the experts, I was like STFU & BFFR!!! They don't even call people bad people & of course she did something wrong! She said she'd be honest about her feelings with Allen & wasn't! That's wrong! I'm still not seeing the "feelings." Caring about how each other is doing doesn't make a physical relationship. 😕 Those liars deserve each other!! PC made me laugh when he said if she met David outside of this, he wouldn't have had a shot. But in true David style, he just cares about his feelings & he's good, so it's all good. He's ready to jump right in, he's all in, & she's tryna wait & figure it out & they just proposed maybe it's a rebound, getting in her head. Can't wait to see what they say they would've done differently.

Between David and Madison I find Madison's actions to be more despicable although David isn't far behind. Granted, David's marriage was on the rocks from the get go but I believe his attempts at patching or reconciling were never sincere once he saw he had a connection with Madison. I believe it was far more involved than they let on. The worst part is David doesn't actually have a chance with Madison. She's not his type. He may have a certain raw appeal but the guy is a hot mess. He looks like he's aged since the show began. I was surprised to see how deep the wrinkles are on his face...too much sun perhaps. In his confrontation with pastor he gave his usual flat out denial of any intimacy. The same denial he uses whenever he is lying. I don't know if they 'consummated' the adultery but their talk was clearly flirtatious.  He wouldn't send a text like that to even his best male friend or even a casual female friend.

Then there's Madison. I hold her more accountable because she had a dozen occasions where Allan gave her an off ramp. He asked her about her commitment on several occasions as he should have. Its unfortunate some people take this as a game. She has no integrity. She gives her word on things provided they don't cause the least discomfort. Breaks them if they do. I'm sure going into this she understood she may not get that immediate attraction. But this Fing woman couldn't even stay chaste for 8 weeks. I found Madison's friend to be just as callous as Madison. Why don't you talk to Allan and gaslight him some more? Do what you usually do to cover your tracks...tell endless lies and make up shit. Its not like you have a shred of integrity Madison so go for it. You've already committed adultery what's some more BSing? If Allan wanted to go ballistic she could have found all her shit off the balcony and in the street.

Lastly David...get the dust out of your eyes. Your 'connection' with Madison will end the moment the show ends. He really thinks they have future plans yet Madison says she doesn't even want to date him. Pastor was right on her situation with David would never have occurred under any other circumstance. David at best was the booby prize.

As for Michelle they matched her up with David because she is blonde...but not very appealing. There will be no romance between Michelle and Allan. Hopefully Allan will go on to greener pastures.

When the experts asked had they'd been intimate, David's response, facial expressions and posture was exactly the same as when he was lying to Michelle about the text messages.   He gave them the same same lines about not caring if they believed him that he gave her.     That solidified to me that something physical definitely happened between the two of them

True she was unhappy with her selected husband from the beginning but as it turns out she had every reason to be. Who would want to start a future and have a family with a man who's clearly a bum. At one point she was sincerely putting in some effort but then came the text message from hell. David is not only a bum but he's also a dumb ass. Its hard to fathom how stupid he could be to flirt outside his marriage, but then send the text to his wife. What a foundation for a new relationship. Lies, cheating more lies. No integrity. It will never get that far Madison will dump David without a second thought.

I can't believe PC said if something could be salvaged between Ike & Em & asked Ike if he wanted to stay married with a straight face!!! SERIOUSLY!!! Em's letter was HILARIOUS!!!! LOVED IT!!! Her emotions came out, but those words were beautiful stabs! He is mentally unstable & needs help! It did need to be said! He deserved it! Coming at him sideways? When he'ssl acting a damn fool?!! Can't even answer questions! 😂 That's where it should've ended. There was no reason to continue with that psycho. She said he wouldn't have gotten a 2nd date in the real world, so why stay married? Why continue? Made her look crazy! I wonder if she's hurt & angry because he personally hurt her or because she didn't get a husband. 🤔

I have to disagree here - they mismatch people for entertainment purposes rather than actual marriage; don't deny them their pay when they actually did something entertaining!😄

Talk about couples' retreat from hell!!! This has to be the worst one yet! Boy did they drop like flies? Everyone ultimately left early??? Allen, Em & Michelle, Madison, David, then the 2 couples. Geez! Whoda thunk Juan & Karla would take the moral high ground? Karla moreso. Love her for that! Violated boundaries indeed!!! Juan wants to be everyone's friend so he adorably struggled with not wanting to be around David's grimy azz! & Tom saying he has to change from Team David to Team Michelle, but not acting that way, telling him he's there for him if he needs anything. Cam still seems to be excusing him cuz that's her buddy, yet thinking something more is going on. I couldn't associate with someone with such poor character, but eh. Good for them!

I was looking forward to this show - silly me - and was disappointed. Except for Karla. The way she was dancing around while making baskets was hysterical.

Madison is a worthless pig. Her speech about staying true to herself said it all. She doesn't think she did anything wrong because she did what she wanted to do. IF that clip we saw was the truth (which I seriously doubt), she told David ON CAMERA one week before the show was over that she liked him. NO woman, even as "beautiful" as Madison is going to do that in front of a camera for the first time. They both lie easily, but badly. I will say that David did actually appear to be happy, which we haven't seen. IF that tape was true, then Madison initiated the "true wuv" - not David. And, I still don't blame David as much as I do Madison. David had to deal with that cold bitch of a "wife" and I had no problem with him getting some positive attention.

I know that Michelle is riding the wave of a victim, which she is not. She is not some amazing detective. She had one question she kept hammering at him and that was all she said to him. The text was stupid, but I also wouldn't be surprised if she was maybe fed some info from one of the producers - maybe just a hint.  Considering that they didn't live together, how would she know when he came home? While sweet Allen was sleeping on the couch, waiting for his wife.

I HATED Emem's letter to Ick. She has had that same look of disgust and superiority the whole show. I know some people bought that she wanted to make it work, but I never did. First of all, if she is as smart as she appears, then she would have written him off immediately. She wanted everyone to know that this failure was not her doing.

Pastor Cal is an ass. His insistence that this IS A REAL MARRIAGE was ridiculous.

So, is D Day next week? This will be a short one - just 2 couples left. I still am not a fan of Camille's. It sounded like she and Tom were not having sex anymore, when she hinted at showing him the sexy lingerie AFTER D Day. She also looked like she has gained a lot of weight.

The show-in-place-of-Afterparty was OK. Amani and Woody looked great - she looked exquisite and classy. You know who I would love to see in a deep conversation about all these mumbo jumbo philosophies - Karla and Chloe. They can both throw those words around, but I think Karla believes it and lives it. Chloe likes to sound like she does. Paige looked pretty - she now has a baby girl and a fiancee. The others were from before I started watching.

Anyway, see you all next week. Countdown to Peacock. . .

Gah! They're milking this text drama for every drop!!!! It's been like 5 episodes!!! I can't even remember life before that text!!! 😂😂 Thank God the season's ending so they can't drag it out even longer! I wanna know what Madison would've said & done had she received that text. Why didn't he send it to her? I guess because his wife was suspicious & investigating him. Zero integrity indeed PC!!! Crazy how he started out as a Chris & ended up as Alyssa. He was the victim of a wife who didn't give him a chance, turned lying, gaslighter. He's a good [lying] person. 😅 Kinda shocking & disturbing the amount of people okay with David's behavior. Yes. Michelle didn't want him, didn't care about him, didn't care to get to know him, etc. She should've ended it. If he wanted to flirt & pursue things with other women, he should've ended it. He shouldn't have lied about that text, repeatedly. That text was both their outs. Why they continued is for them to say. Others have ended their marriages early just fine, so some zero proof "fine" doesn't cut it, but eh. I guess some people would be perfectly okay with someone lying to their face, constantly.

This was a production with very bad actors off the streets!

I can just see them, after the show, sitting with friends explaining the plot!

Michelle making it all about her!  She never wanted David but she's the offended party.

David and Madison are players and I do believe cheating is the way they roll!

Welcome to each other!

I think the guys when they had a chance went soft soap on David. They should have laid the heavy wood on him for being such a cad and liar.

I don't know if Allan should confront Madison or just erase her like it never happened. I'd want to get my pound of flesh. She deserves to know what a wench she is.

I think it’s more of a punishment for her to have to sit with the notion that she’s the villain in their story and there’s nothing she can do about it. If he goes off on her, she could potentially look like the victim, which she doesn’t deserve. If he forgives her, she gets off easy. If he just doesn’t speak to her again, she knows he thinks she sucks and she has to live with the fact that she’s that sucky person to him. The time for them to talk was when she realized she had feelings for David. Having David tell him that was really disrespectful to Allen, and IMO it’s too late for her to try to save face with Allen now.

They probably have to do the formal “I want a divorce” thing, but even then, in Allen’s shoes I’d be like “I want a divorce, and I’m not interested in anything you have to say,” thank the experts, and leave.

Was it me or did Allen look more attractive than usual when he came back for his spices and his hooptie? It's like being free of Madison glowed him up overnight!

I'm sure it scored major points with Michelle when Allen immediately complimented her apartment after David incessantly called it "simple." 😂

David is so nasty with his "I'm a man and I got needs" talk. Still at a loss with how Madison was repulsed by Allen but finds that slimeball attractive.

One of the main points of reality TV is that we are a fly on the wall. Everyone. They are not supposed to interfere in their lives. They are documenting it as it unfolds.

Full on stopping a storyline because someone will be heartbroken is just not their job.

It was Madison's job to tell Allen. No one else's. It would be nice if those who know tell him. It's also not their place.

I was getting a red flag over Allen’s destructive behavior. To destroy property that wasn’t his and lighting a fire was concerning. I was surprised a smoke detector didn’t go off. I’m sure the film crew stayed after he left but still he could have burned that place down. I understand why he felt the way he did but was questioning his self control.

I’m sure the film crew stayed after he left but still he could have burned that place down. I understand why he felt the way he did but was questioning his self control.

It was a bit over the top.  But I also thought it was very organized destruction. 🙂  The things he destroyed belonged to both of them.   The broken cups were neatly put in the sink.   The photo book was torn but the pages weren't ripped out and the book placed back on the table.   The burnt vows were burned but quickly extinguished and left on the counter.   None of her personal items were touched and none of the apartment's property was damaged.

It felt more producer manipulated than an out of control response from Allen

Michelle: "I hope she likes living in his parents' basement." 🤭

See.  This is why she is single.  If I was dating Michelle, I would have put her in her place in week 2.  I dont allow people to treat me badly.  I dont tolerate any negative behavior.  I'm not saying David is a great catch, but was it so hard for her to treat him like he is human? Who on this thread would tolerate being treated like David? Its her fault why David flirted with Madison.

Allen deserves a metal for holding back. I think he was very restrained for having a broken heart and lashing out. He could have punched David instead. I dont consider what he did as losing self control.  What would any man do when finding out their wife might be cheating?  They would punch something at some point. He can pay to fix those cabinets. And he wasnt an arsonist like you implied. The man was in his feelings.  And handled it well.  He was betrayed by his wife and his bestie.  How was he supposed to react?  Like he was an auditor at a board meeting?
