This episode was the most predictable one yet!

Of course the recovering alcoholic was telling the truth and hadn't been drinking.

Of course the pregnant woman was going to give birth.

Of course Dr. Pacey was going to say he had fun but couldn't continue their little arrangement.

Of course the Traveling Matts (is that a copyright infringement on Fraggle Rock?) weren't going to have a deadly disease and start a new pandemic.

I think this is the first episode that I was bored.  It's a bonkers show, it's not very good, but at least I haven't been bored...

I agree.  I also thought this was a boring and predictable episode, just filled with stereotypes and tropes.

I didn't understand why all of the passengers were going apeshit over the drag queen's performance.  It was just lipsynching and strutting around and flailing her arms about.  Stupid question, but it was obvious to me as a viewer that it was lipsynching, but was this supposed to be actual singing from the character's perspective?  Because if it was supposed to be actual singing, then it would make more sense.  But if they know it is lipsynching, then I don't get it.

The blonde crew member who participates in the round table meetings, I don't know his name but he seems to be the only gay crew member.  I would have thought he would be involved more with the passengers and storylines?

So neither Max nor Tristan want to continue the threesome because they both want Avery all to themselves.  No mention from Tristan about the chef.

I was kind of shocked how old John Stamos and Cheyenne Jackson looked in this episode. And I've seen Stamos is something recently, a commercial I think, and he didn't look as old as he did here.

There's a character named Rosie. I have no idea what her position is, she's been a regular background character and she's played by Jacqueline Toboni who I know from Grimm. She's possibly bi/gay.

I didn't realize that was Bob the Drag Queen. She's a fairly famous drag queen if you are into that scene. However . . . not every gay person in the world is into drag. That's kind of a lazy stereotype.

I did think the gay influencers were funny though, and sadly realistic.

I get that one of them didn't end up having some world-ending pandemic disease but even mono is highly contagious.

What self respecting drag queen goes on a cruise with only one wig? That was probably the least realistic plot point of an entire nonsensical approach.

She is the "chief engineer" and her character is gay, stated in an earlier episode. I think she looks a lot like Cobie Smulders.

The poker game is bros, bis and butch if I remember correctly.   The blond guy is bi.  The woman is the butch lesbian I assume.

I forgot to record this so I'll have to check it out on hulu and be disappointed they ended the throuple before it began.

So I think Dr Pacey is still in a Covid coma and this is all his fever dream. There’s no other explanation, the strangely opulent medical area alone stretches credibility. I think end of series he wakes up and we find out Captain Don is actually his doctor, nurse 3 way is his nurse and other guy who I still can’t remember his name is an orderly.

The blond guy does a bunch of random jobs.  On the episode where the woman got her arm stuck in the cave, he was the one giving the tour and talking about the pirate treasure, and someone said "didn't you give me my towels at the pool this morning?" and he said yes.  So he's like a universal background character.  Maybe he's the head of entertainment?

Wow, I thought my babies were born quickly, but within the length of one song? I’d definitely have paid extra for that upgrade!

I was waiting to see the Travel Influencers live-streaming the birth on their channel, it would have broken so many rules.

I was impressed that she went from her water breaking to nine centimeters dilated in less than a minute. And a first delivery no less...

I didn't love the scene with the big line up of medications purchased just for this cruise, as though all these men were sex crazed maniacs just teeming with communicable diseases to swap with one another.

It took me a bit to recognize him, but at the end, I realized that one of the travel influencers was Brad, Sue's best friend from the show The Middle.

I also was very surprised that a cruise line would have allowed a woman weeks from her due date to board.  My understanding is most cruise lines don't allow a pregnant woman to sail after the 23rd or 24th week.

I think Stamos looks good for 61.  Cheyenne Jackson is 49, and I agree that he was looking rough.

And that's why they don't allow open flames on cruise ships.

Any reputable obstetrician would have advised limited traveling at eight months, and especially no flying or cruise ships.  That was one quick birth!  But it would be considered a premature baby needing extra attention and care.  The medical center may have had a baby cap and blankie, but it's doubtful they have a neonatal unit tucked away in all the empty space.

I'm completely onboard with the Covid coma fever dream concept because that's the only way anything makes sense.  And I think there's a television playing in the hospital room that influences those dreams.  Today it might have been RuPaul and Full House reruns!

Bummed they went this boring route. My heart sank a little bit when I realized we're going back to the trite love triangle.

Sweet potato rash? Auto brewery syndrome? Between this show and Brilliant Minds, I'm getting quite the education in strange ailments.

Honestly, I don't get what's so appealing about Avery that both guys want her so badly.  Is it because they're stuck on the ship?  l think she looks ok, but she doesn't have much of a personality.  I just don't get it.

Auto brewery syndrome has been done on other shows enough times that I diagnosed the problem before Max did. I also thought “carotene toxicity, maybe?” before Max said it because of the earlier comment that one guy looked like he’d overdone the self-tanner and looked orange. I obviously watch way too many medical dramas.

Avery seems pretty selfish and doesn’t seem to have any real feelings for either Max or Tristan so the threesome turning back into a triangle wasn’t too surprising, either. The only surprise here is that both men want actual relationships and she just wants something physical.

Good point. But these writers? Would bet on the audience not tracking that.

Tommy wasn't around for most of St. Elsewhere, they just pulled the dream reveal out for the final scene

I get it more on Tristan's end as they've known each other for years.  Dr. Max?  Nope.

I don't know that she said she just wanted it to be physical but she's not looking towards choosing.  Even if all she wanted is something physical, I'd understand her.  She's off to medical school at some point.  Having a partner traveling on a cruise ship would be inconvenient at this point.

I'm disappointed at the way they ended the throuple.  Max wanting to be a one-woman man is kind of silly because Avery wasn't asking him to have two women. She wanted to add another man.  And then Tristan wanting to go conventional as well was a bit boring even though his delivery got me.  I hope things change in the future.

I get having some extra on hand just in case someone forgot or runs out, but you'd have to think most of these guys have their own prescriptions.

But speaking of sex-crazed maniacs, I did notice that none of the gay couples showcased were monogamous.  The captain's brother had two partners--and I really thought he didn't look happy and that would be the twist at the end of the episode.   Then the gay influencers participated in a foursome.  I get ethical non-monogamy is a thing and gay men tend to be a little more open about it than straight couples, but I didn't love that they highlighted it in the same episode where the straights decided to go traditional and not continue their alternative arrangement.

Pam wasn't in a lot of scenes in Dallas Season 9, but that didn't stop it from all being her stupid senseless ruinous-for-the-series dream.  Not that I'm still annoyed or anything...

Is there a rule to dreams that the dreamer is always in it?  Isn't the dreamer sometimes just an observer?  That'd make Max the camera.

Wasn't something like that the big clue in The Sixth Sense? The only person who directly interacted with Bruce Willis was the kid who saw dead people?

I think Dr. Odyssey is just bad writing and not some bigger supernatural storyline but I suppose there's still time to shift course and go that way, while later maintaining that it was the plan all along?

That was but in that world, the kid wasn't dreaming.  He was talking tona legit (in the land of fiction) ghost who was there.

I mean, I've never had a dream where I wasn't part of the action. But I don't think that means other people can't. However, if I was writing a show that was supposed to be someone's dream, I would want to have them in every scene or at least have it be things they would know about.

And, I will always remember the best of all dream endings/reveals: Newhart.

Now in Newhart there were scenes Bob wasn't in. But that wasn't planned from the beginning to be a dream

If they're staying true to shipboard culture, the ratio of men to women in the crew is something like 10 to 1. Women get a lot of attention--like, it's a problem. Too much attention. When my new cabinmate signed on (one of our castmates had been injured and she was a replacement), the safety officer offered to relax the regulation that she sit through the sign-on safety procedures (it's a regulation but she knew what to do as she'd signed off on a previous contract just a few months ago) if she and her cabinmate (me) would go on a date with him and another officer. I said I would but to protect her and I said we are NOT getting off this couch except to leave! (Naturally, the "date" was in his cabin.)

We never did a threesome though. I was effing Norma Rae on that ship because I hated the constant attention.

The only thing that piqued my interest was the question of whether the cruise line bills the patient/insurance company for all those expensive tests.

Yes, the passenger is billed and they have to submit claims to their insurance when they get home.  A basic visit can cost upwards of $400+. And I can tell you that almost none of the tests/procedures are done on cruise ships.  Basic help, only and then it’s off the ship in the next port.

Judging by the scenes when the crew gets time off at the beach resort unless the ship brings in local girlfriends for their parties, that is nowhere close to true abord the Odyssey. And the older women on the housekeeping staff didn't seem to want to go to the beach.

Depending on the location, you may be better off waiting until the next port. I actually passed out on an excursion during a Mediterranean cruise. Ambulance ride and hospital visit (where they insisted on a bunch of x-rays and tests) was completely free. Someone I was traveling with went to the ship infirmary and had to pay a couple hundred dollars to be told they had a cold.

I also know someone who's family member got really sick on a cruise and they were battling with the insurance company and the cruise line over bills for months.
