A lot of it DOES come from social media, but at the same time, I can't really disappear from them because where else am I going to find good support for interfaith families? I have also all but cut ties with a women's volunteer group I was heavily involved with 15-20 years ago because their idea of diversity and inclusion didn't include people like me. I'm also half glad I don't have a daughter so I don't have to deal with the ultra-PC vibe that Girl Guides of Canada has gone. My alma mater is leaning that way as well, but not to that extent. There's a reason why many people have become extremely right wing. I think what's going on in the world threatens everyone - liberal, conservative, whatever. Polarization means there's no good way for people to see what they have in common, which works for the oligarchs waiting around to enrich themselves at the public expense. My state went from launching Barack Obama to full-on, crazy MAGA. So I sympathize being surrounded by people who see the world differently than you do. 10 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8583760

The Gulf has been renamed many times, this is not going to hurt anyone. All of that is just making excuses for Trump doing whatever the F he wants and not seeing the implications of his actions. I am sure that if he took a crap on the desk in the oval office his followers would find some way to praise it. And changing the name of the gulf is a big deal and does hurt people, because he made an issue out of a non-issue which only provides one more reason we didn't need to divide us even further - a division which incidentally hurts everyone in our country. But he knew that, and that's part of his MO in doing shit like this. Divide and conquer. Get us arguing about stupid shit so we don't see or do anything to prevent what he's really doing to us. And it sure as shit ain't anything good, either. And give me one good reason why the name needed to be changed that can't be reduced to and traced back to loving whatever Trump does just because he does it and it might get some Democrats upset. Absolutely NO ONE cared about the name before he changed it. If anyone wanted it for any valid reason we would have heard about it before this. Trump didn't change it to promote love for our country, that's for sure. That's what he wants you to think, though. PT Barnum was right, "There's a sucker born every minute". I'm sure he and Trump had a lot in common. And people didn't call for changing those product and team names because they were big egotists that had to push to have their way on things that were insignificant. No, they called for those changes because the images were implying a condoning of racist stereotypes. Obviously the right doesn't consider the feelings of the people hurt by those images valid or worth protecting because they see the name changes as just a power play by the left to make them defer to the feelings of people who they see as beneath them and are "getting too big for their britches". So they will be against those changes yet support changes by a maniac who wants everyone at each other's throats for his own gain. Even that is more acceptable to them than worrying about the feelings of some "uppity" minorities! And BTW, more in this vein but even more obvious is Pete Hegseth's move to rename Ft. Liberty back to Ft. Bragg, only this time after some decorated private in WWII named Bragg, not the confederate leader whose name was removed from the fort under the Biden administration. If that's not blatantly thumbing your nose at Black people I don't know what is. And I don't care what ridiculous explanations were given to justify changing it back to Bragg in an attempt to sanitize the real reason. Republicans either need to stop justifying shit like this with lame excuses like honoring some private with the name Bragg that they previously didn't give 2 craps about or WAKE UP. Preferably both. 6 17 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8583827

I did it myself when I was young, but in my case it was the judgment of my mother in law, who was very much stuck in the 1950s when it came to her values about everything, especially women. Mind you, I was raised by a mother that even today would be considered quite progressive that way. And here was my MIL issuing judgment from on high because I worked a full time job, went to grad. school and was an independent woman. She thought women should stay home, clean house all day and have babies. I could never please her. She was judgmental with everyone, though, even my husband. I admit I was sensitive and wanted her to like me so it was quite upsetting that she would reject me like that. But I eventually got fed up with her behavior and didn't GAF after a while. There was no pleasing her so I had to give up trying and stick up for myself. And I don't regret it one bit. It's sad but it was her problem, not mine. And afterward I felt much better not blaming myself for it and letting her make me feel like I had to defend myself. I did nothing wrong and my lifestyle works for me. I hope you can get to that point too. 2 hours ago, Dimity said: All we are being asked to consider doing right now is avoiding US products as much as possible and to not vacation in the US. There was a very determined effort made to keep Trump out of the picture and to stress the friendship that has always existed between our countries, especially when it comes to the military. 15 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584233

Now, if they were to punctuate key parts with “FUCK YOU, DONALD!” and followed that with rhythmic clapping? Totally different story. It would also work for JD and Elon, since their names also have two syllables. 😈😈😈 On the latest Last Week Tonight, John Oliver showed a clip and pointed out that the polite Canadian crowd waited till there was a pause near the end before they boo’ed. 6 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584245

I really hope Canadians know that at least half of this country has nothing against them and doesn't approve of what's going on. I love Canada and have been there many times. My mother grew up there and I have several Canadian relatives still there so it really hurts me to think our president is creating any bad blood between our countries. 7 3 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584264
anony.miss Tuesday at 07:54 AM Share Tuesday at 07:54 AM (edited) Since the U.S. has the right to only 22 nautical miles of continental shelf in the area, Trump can't slap America's name on the Gulf - I guess he could legally rename it The Shelf of America, but reminding people the food on their shelves is rising in cost due to Trumpflation would be pretty damn stupid (even for him). I read today that most Americans reject him pulling this crap - a rare victory for common sense in the Trump era: "Almost Nobody Wants to Call It the Gulf of America: A Marquette University poll released Wednesday found that 71 percent of respondents opposed renaming the Gulf of Mexico with only 29 percent saying they were in favor of the change. A YouGov poll taken just days after Trump was sworn in found similar results with only 28 percent of people surveyed supporting the switch. A Harvard CAPS–Harris poll from January found that 72 percent of registered voters were against adopting the “Gulf of America” name with 28 percent backing it." https://nymag.com/intelligencer/article/trump-gulf-of-mexico-gulf-of-america.html Edited Tuesday at 08:31 AM by anony.miss 8 1 4 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584311

I think she only got booed at the SB because she's dating a guy from the NFL's current Evil Empire. Yeah, it's weird to apply that term to anything coming out of Kansas City, but here we are. Also, Travis doesn't scream "evil" to me. Aside from the MAGA placekicker, none of them do. Their QB is at the very least MAGA adjacent since he is married to someone who has posted/liked posts praising Trump. And Travis as he has become more famous has moved more center to appeal to more people. 10 hours ago, Dimity said: We're being urged to make American tourists very welcome - you have enough to deal with right now! But thank you so much for the confirmation that most registered voters don't approve of the change, including some Republicans. I consider that a win of sorts. I found this thread on Reddit re: the name change interesting because most of the comments below the original post sound like I could have written them myself: https://www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/comments/1imy8gf/whats_wrong_with_calling_the_gulf_gulf_of_america/ 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584400

I think it stems from being questioned so much when I was younger, I do, too. It’s like I’m apologizing for my existence. Not as much since trump was elected the first time, but I still do it. I was out with my dad, last night, eating pizza in the van, starting a movie on my phone. In a good mood, until I opened up Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoXChromosomes/comments/1irwk3g/they_just_canceled_my_sterilization_and_every/ It was a catholic hospital, so some commenters expressed surprise that she even got this far in the process. The woman who called her, said she was the seventh woman she’d called, and she wasn’t going to be the last (and she says the woman was in tears). 6 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584419

That's in line with the numbers of Trump supporters that actually believe he's doing something positive. 70 to 75% of the US is being dragged around by 25 to 30% of the adults in the country. It's mind boggling faced that way. 9 1 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584433

PRgal Tuesday at 04:23 PM Share Tuesday at 04:23 PM This is a hilarious (somewhat exaggerated, but still kind of real) clip from a show called Little Italy, Los Angeles (I've never heard of it) that has been floating around social media. It's an example of what I've faced in diversity groups in the past. The overcorrection is real. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/156/#findComment-8584441
