It’s odd, there are some shows I quit after one episode (or less!) because the laugh track was so annoying, and some where I don’t notice it at all. Not really sure what makes the difference. 3 Link to comment

One major thing that is going for it is that we already know and like (most of) the characters, and the one new character, the mechanic guy resentful of Georgie, seemed interesting and real enough. It would have probably felt more like “meh” if all the characters were unknown. When Mary said “you can always move in with me”, that “me”? Broke my heart. 4 1 Link to comment
JayDub1987 October 18 Share October 18 I enjoyed it. Won't say I love it, but I enjoyed it. For those worried about the laugh track, Montana and Emily were on a TikTok on the Young Sheldon account earlier talking about filming in front of a live audience. Makes me think that maybe the pilot had a laughtrack but other episodes have a live audience? 1 Link to comment

That’s one reason why the concept of this show doesn’t work for me. If they were going to live with anyone it should be Mary with George’s death. Meemaw also constantly saying to her recently widowed daughter that they didn’t like her enough to live with her also fell flat to me. 14 1 Link to comment
jmonique October 18 Share October 18 I wasn't a regular Young Sheldon watcher, so forgive me. But I don't think these two characters are Lead Characters. Mandy could have been, perhaps, but Georgie is way more limited right now. He's much better as the loveable but dimmer older brother who shines but doesn't have to carry the show with simple optimism. It feels like when they tried to spin off Joey to his own show. 9 Link to comment
StaceyNotStacie October 18 Share October 18 I didn’t hate this. I don’t particularly like the title or the laugh track. This would have been better if it was titled The Coopers and modeled more like The Conners with Mandy’s family as supporting/recurring characters and Georgie working at the tire shop. 3 Link to comment
Jodithgrace October 18 Share October 18 It wasn’t terrible, but how are we supposed to root for them when we know that they’re not going to work out? 4 Link to comment
Chit Chat October 18 Share October 18 My main concern is the constant friction between Mandy and her mom. A little of that goes a long way. I had enough of it on YS. I'll give this a chance though. I'd like to see Georgie's progression as the "tire whisperer," so here's hoping they don't get bogged down in the Mandy vs. her mom drama. 14 Link to comment

shapeshifter October 18 Share October 18 3 hours ago, ams1001 said: Okay...the tango intro is kinda...odd. In an episode of Young Sheldon, it was pointed out that Georgie looks a lot like Patrick Swayze. Georgie and Mary watched Dirty Dancing. Coincidentally, Patrick Swayze was on a rerun of The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson on AntennaTV last week; they showed a clip similar to this one: So I guess Mandy and Georgie have a Dirty Dancing fantasy? 5 1 Link to comment

No need for forgiveness, I was a regular "Young Sheldon" watcher and I feel the same way. But I predicted I would so it's not exactly encouraging. I'm hoping they grow into main character material as time goes on. This didn't suck but it wasn't that great either. I never thought I would love this being filmed in front of an audience and I don't. And if it was it didn't feel or sound like it. It sounded like a fake laugh track. It felt like a slightly awkward start in general. I'm hoping they iron out the kinks in future episodes. It was nice seeing Mary and Meemaw again but I felt like they were drowned out by all the stuff I didn't love. 6 Link to comment
karenc3 October 18 Share October 18 I thought the opening with them watching Fraiser talking about a laughing show was clever, because of the change in type of comedy, this is now a laughing show. Also, I wonder if they used Frasier because it was a successful spinoff. However, I think the show fell a little flat for me, the characters didn't have the depth that they had in Young Sheldon, although it was a nice moment when Georgie told his father in law he reminded him of his father. But still, it didn't really explain why Georgie and Mandy moved in with Mandy's parents, other than maybe because of Georgie's new job. I didn't buy that he wouldn't have wanted to live with Mary. And I also didn't buy when Meemaw told Mary they didn't want to live with her. Some time probably had passed since the end of Young Sheldon to this and I know it's a different show but that didn't really work for me. It kind of reminded me of Joey, when they said his friends all got married and were too busy to be his friends anymore so he moved to California, it made it seem like a different character. While, when they spun off Frasier, the character deepened, and it was believable why he moved. I'll continue watching though, and I did like that they did have Meemaw and Mary on, I didn't realize they would. 2 Link to comment
HelloooKitty October 18 Share October 18 That laugh track is NOT working for me. The constant friction between mom and everyone else is not working for me. She’s a horrible bitter person and she was okay in small doses on YS to add tension but I can’t handle that all the time every episode. Also, Mandy was around for a LOT of episodes of YS and I don’t remember even a single mention of a brother. He definitely was never shown even on the multiple visits to the parents house or when the baby was born or when they got married. Will Sasso and the dad hug was the best part but I don’t think he’s enough that make me stick around. dear god, the mom is so awful. 11 Link to comment
EtheltoTillie October 18 Share October 18 (edited) Aww the little end was sweet. Most of it was pretty terrible. But it’s a pilot so I’ll give it more time. They’re setting up how Georgie ce comes the tire king. I wasn’t expecting Mary and Meemaw, and the description for next week includes Missy. Edited October 18 by EtheltoTillie 3 Link to comment
HelloooKitty October 18 Share October 18 Do you feel like the guest stars are to try and pull viewers? Or do you think they will continue to “visit” every 3-4 episodes? 3 Link to comment

But then, over the summer, I saw a headline somewhere about GMFM (or whatever way we are going to abbreviate this show) recasting a “major” YS character, got intrigued and it turned out they recast the brother. My reaction was just like yours - Mandy had a brother? And he had to be recast? And that’s news? Nobody remembers what he looked like anyway. Honestly, I didn’t even remember he was in the pilot last night when the episode ended. 3 1 2 Link to comment

mojoween October 18 Share October 18 (edited) The laugh track makes this show feel very cheap. Count me in as a hater. Also the tango music between scenes is super jarring and doesn’t at all fit the tone of the show. The tango dance intro, fine, whatever, but the constant tango music is grating. I don’t remember if there was a bumper on YS but I still love the whoosh on TBBT. I was quite unexpectedly sniffly when Georgie hugged Mandy’s dad. And dangit, he does remind me of George! There was some issue with the plumbing at Mary’s house where the toilet didn’t work. At that point is when they moved out. They were staying in Sheldon’s room when he was in Germany. I’m not sure why they didn’t move back after Sheldon went to California. 2 1 Link to comment

Tom Holmberg October 18 Share October 18 (edited) Rather weak. Didn't hate it, but didn't much like it, either. I can't see watching Audrey being an ass week after week. The brother served no purpose. Liked the relationship of Georgie and Jim, and the reference to George Sr. Needed more tire whispering. I pretty much tune out the laughter so that didn't bother me any more than the laughter on TBBT. Montana's acting seemed very stagey. Was that the same train from "My Cousin Vinny"? AD35 October 18 Share October 18 (edited) After seeing Young Sheldon for 7 seasons in the time slot seeing the opening of this show was jarring to say the least, especially with the opening tango (and the baby on the floor!?!) Since it's not uncommon for shows to find their footing in their first season I'm willing to seeing how this does and how it does it. But as of now I still see Mandy's mother as a judgemental shrew without a trace of humor. I do see that Mandy's now-you-see-him, now-you-don't brother is going to be this show's ersatz Sheldon-Lite. Hopefully in future episodes Georgie doesn't sit on his head and fart. I can say that I think Ruben and his relationship with Georgie is one of the better ones now and in the future going forward. Dimity October 18 Share October 18 Trying hard not to compare to YS and BBT but not succeeding. IMO both those shows hit the ground running from the first episode onward, this was especially true of YS. I turned in to that feeling very pessimistic and was won over almost from the get go. This show, well, it left me with more questions than anything else. Main one being there was no logical reason for Mandy and Georgie not to have moved back in with Mary in light of George's death and with Sheldon gone to California. I mean of course it messes with the whole concept of the new show, so there's that. But even so given that in BBT we have older Georgie talking about how he became the family rock after his father's death...yeah... 4 1 Link to comment
Yeah No October 18 Share October 18 I just don't see how anything here won't get real old real soon on this show. And none of the new characters, even the son didn't seem able to bring new energy to the show or the main characters. The show compared itself to "Frasier" in the opening scene but even on that show the new supporting characters all had a purpose and added new energy and comedy to the show. Here I'm not feeling it. Unless they plan to bring on old YS cast members every week I don't see what's going to be interesting here and Mary and Meemaw didn't even help in this episode anyway. I did like how they attempted to make Mandy's parents' house look more like the mid 90s and they put Meemaw in a plaid flannel shirt, also very mid-90s-ish. But Mary is still stuck in the early '70s with that same belted dress she wore in YS. I guess this was supposedly before she started to find her new "groove" after George's death. 5 Link to comment
appositival October 18 Share October 18 So, how old is Ceecee supposed to be? She slept through the entire show, so I thought she was still an infant. I don't know why she didn't cry when the train was shaking the little house. 3 Link to comment
