I guessed Fantasia but was convinced I was wrong.

Now that McDonald's jingle I had to sing to myself to get the pickle clue right is stuck in my head!

The monsoon TS surprised me.  They had a lot of TS, but this exchange amused me:

Uh ... no.

I had a good first round; I missed two in 7, but other than that only missed Bavaria in princes and Guy in songs.

But DJ was a little rough.  I only ran last names, although I came close in initials, getting all but LMFAO, and books, getting all but Richard Wright.  But I was terrible in hoosegows, only getting Beagle, and I missed three in constellations. I missed two in NFT/IPO.

FJ was close to an instaget.  I've never seen it, but I know it was a milestone in movie sound, so it came to me pretty quickly.

I've seen Fantasia at least a few times, so it was, as you say, "close to an instaget," for me, because it is all about the music, and because of "special sound equipment for the making & showing of this film" in the clue.

TS instagets were MLA and Cassiopeia.

Yesterday's TS instaget was Them!

I saw Fantasia a bunch of times when I was a kid. I remember I loved it, but I don't want to see it again now, because I can't remember much about it and I'm worried it hasn't aged well.

I'll be watching football tonight, so just checked the archive.

Not cool casually calling Derry "Londonderry"; they should have said "this official name of" instead.

The bumblebee TS surprised me (but maybe there are numerous large bees to choose from and I'm simply unburdened by any knowledge of them), as did eyewitness.

I missed two in art, but ran everything else in the first round other than songs, in which I missed Doja Cat.  Seeing the picture wouldn't have helped; I've heard the name, but that's it.

DJ, however, was not my round.  I didn't run anything - although I came close in history, getting all but NY, and vocab, getting all but legerdemain - and had two bad categories, missing three each in TV shows and epitaphs.  I missed two each in the others.

FJ was an instaget, though, so I ended strong.

My best round in quite a while! (Don't worry, I made up for it in the second round.) In J I ran Bugging Out, Fix the Proverb, and Cats' Songs, missed one in Art & Artists and Memory, and two in Birthstones. In DJ I ran Change, missed one in US Political History and Tough Vocab, three in TV Theme Song, and four in Literary Epitaphs and UK Cities.

No clue for FJ.

TSes: (J had 4 + 1 DD; DJ had 9 + both DDs) I got bumble bee, amethyst (DD), eye witness testimony, and Elizabeth Gilbert (DD).

I said the Godfather.  My second choice was going to be Ghostbusters.  Don't know why other than those darn proton packs can get a little dicey.

I got the missed clues of amethyst, bumblebee, eyewitness, Belfast and legerdemain.

I got the entire categories of birthstone and cat's song right (I waited in vain for Smelly Cat or Soft Kitty).

I got Doja Cat on a guess; the picture definitely didn't help me (other than the fact that she was wearing a cat-ear hood). I wasn't even sure if she was a rapper.

The picture might have helped -- I only got Doja Cat because she was dressed as a cat -- it was a lucky guess.

I came up with amethyst, bumblebee, eyewitness, kept saying Eat, Pray Love so I knew they wanted Gilbert’s name, but I couldn’t pull it up, and Outlander. I ran birthstones, cat in songs, and the bug category. I did see Fantasia in college which is why I probably didn’t get FJ 😉

I got What We Do In The Shadows-- very funny show, and I don't even like vampires.

Also got FJ at the very last minute-- I kept saying to myself: that Spike Lee joint! What was it called? I could picture the scene and everything. But I got it just in time. Probably wouldn't have had time to write it down, but I'm still counting it as a win.

The priest looked like a priest from Central Casting. However, I didn't like that he felt it necessary to put his title with his name. You're not MY priest, and this isn't church. Don't put on airs. You're just another guy in this context, playihg the game with everybody else.

I didn't care for it either - they don't use doctor or military ranks or other titles, so why this? Also, Ken made several personal comments to him with his answers, as if he (Ken) was nervous or trying to make a good impression or something. Ken occasionally makes comments with others, but this was noticeable and felt uncomfortable. Oh well, the priest didn't win, so it won't be an ongoing thing.

I wondered the same thing. I think Ken is pretty religious, so I kinda assumed he did that on his own. Not sure though.

That's what I thought, and it didn't actually come across as anything "bad" to me. I either think religious titles are different, or I haven't thought too much about it. I didn't question it at the time.

I assume they would go with whatever the contestant prefers.

Father Steve, we hardly knew ye.
I can think of many ways and reasons Steve and Ken arrived at the decision for Ken to address him as "Father Steve," including Ken wanting to celebrate the honeymoon phase of the priest's recent ordination, or even Ken thinking it might prevent a few viewers from having impure thoughts about a priest who happens to look fantastic on television.
As a painter of portraits, I appreciated his nicely proportioned face, but I appreciated even more his cheerful attitude. 
Sorry to see him go, but I trust it's for the best at this point in his life.

Yesterday I got the TS of Bumble. 
If I get today's FJ, it'll be my second for this first week of the season.

Haha, when Father Steve’s FJ! response and wager were revealed and it looked pretty clear he wasn’t winning, Ken said something like “well that leaves you with just $99, but as the Bible says, the last will be first”. I guess Ken couldn’t hear me yelling at my tv, “no, it doesn’t work like that here!”

Don't the contestants choose how to write their names on the podia?  Father Steve wrote "Fr. Steve" so that's what Ken called him.  I didn't think anything of it.

I had to look at the archive because FOX45 is no longer telling me when it's going to rerun Jeopardy on baseball nights.  I would've done pretty well, and FJ was an instaget even though I've never seen the movie.

Yeah, the photo wouldn't have helped me either.

I only got two of the theme songs (The Flintstones and The Nanny).  I've never watched any of the other shows and have never heard their theme songs.

I remember the theme song - it plays over the intro showing the stadium - but never understood (or maybe didn't realize there were any) words.

I blame Steve, not Ken. I thought it was obnoxious. I can't remember any other contestant doing something similar. We've had other clergy, we've had doctors, people with military titles, etc-- nobody else felt they needed an honorific while playing Jeopardy.

The one difference I see is that most other titles don't go with the first name. It'd be Dr. LastName, not Dr. Mike (unless you're the famous youtuber, at least). But the "father" title is often used with either the first or last name. I don't like it, personally, because I'm not a member of the religion and would not like being expected to call someone Father, especially in a non-church setting (if I was at their church for some reason I might feel differently in that specific context, though I can't say I've ever had reason to address the minister by name at any church-related event I've been to). The pastor at my church when I was a kid was called either Reverend LastName, or Pastor Ed, but I couldn't see him expecting the host to include the "Pastor" if he went on a game show.

We are not his flock. I don't care what the tradition is in his congregation. He came across as a self-impressed imperialist, in my opinion.

Since I read the archive rather than watched the game, I knew he'd written his name as "Fr. Steve" because the archive records their names however the contestants write them (e.g. if he'd been "Steve!" that's how it would appear).

But I had no idea until an email from an irate friend that he'd been addressed as "Father Steve" all game.  Oh, hell no (pun unintended, but now amusing me).  Like my friend said, and others here have made the same point, "When there's a military person, he doesn't call them Admiral Bob the whole time."

Well I guess I learned something about myself. I was “raised Catholic” but it didn’t stick. Don’t think I’ve set foot in a church for the last 50 years, except for weddings and funerals. But I didn’t give it a second thought that he’d be called “Father Steve”. Because of course, that’s what priests are called. Funny what stays with you that you don’t realize.

I was also 'raised Catholic' which didn't stick but it irritated me through the whole game and I was very happy he didn't win so I wouldn't have to be irritated through more games. It's not his name, he's not my priest, I'm sure he could stand being called Steve for 30 minutes.

FJ was another of those brain freezes, I knew the movie, I knew the title was a phrase, I knew Spike Lee directed it, but it just would not come to my mouth. I hate when that happens.

A long while back my oldest daughter and I decided to watch all the movies on AFI's 100 Movies 100 Years list, we started at 100 (Yankee Doodle Dandy) and went up as we had time. Some years later they revised the list and Do the Right Thing was one of the movies added so I watched it then.

I can't remember where I read this but, in light of it, your response makes perfect sense. Marcus Mumford said that most people don't remember the theme because immediately after the opening "Yeah" the Skip Intro button pops up on the screen so no one listens to the rest of the song!

As a huge Mumford fan, I never skipped the intro, so I recognized the lyrics in the clue right away.

I'm sure I'm guilty of that...especially since I binged the whole series over a couple weeks so I was watching multiple episodes in a row.

I went generic and said the Reya Islands.  I was more leaning towards Juana than Isabella, but Spanish queens are not my forte.

I got the missed clues of 452, Santa's little Helper, 500 and Data.

I got the entire categories of B and TV pets right.

63% / 60% / 62%

Not a great game…didn't run anything; in the first round I missed one in Powers that "B", Food, and Hub, two in The Map and Missing Movie Title Adjectives, and four in Spoke. In DJ I missed one in Trees & Flowers and TV Pets, two in Music, Latin, and 20th Century Women, and four in Literary Title Math.

But I got FJ! My only one of the week and it's an asterisk! It was a bit of a guess based on what we might be exploring in those years. I figured space or deep sea and space from an island chain didn't make sense.

TSes: (J had 2; DJ had 9 + 1 DD) I got Allegheny, fondue, willow, 552 (DD, though technically she got it right but after time was up), Die Fledermaus, and Santa's Little Helper.

I am gobsmacked that I got FJ!  It was a total guess, based solely on knowing the Marianas Trench is in the Pacific.  I fully expected to be so very very wrong.  I'm still a little in shock.

I also got the TS of Santa's Little Helper, willow tree, Data, and crocus.  I did get 552 before time ran out, but does it count as a missed clue?  She technically got it, just a bit late.

I first went to the Virgin Island but wrong place, then tried to think if Isabella led me anywhere, then finally just before the music was up said Marianas. Also got Willow and Data.

My best day for TS in a while-- I got Allegheny, fondue, sui generis, willow, Tanglewood, and crocus. 

I lived in the Berkshires for many years, and I also tend to do well with plants and food.
