I'll take it a step further. I like the reigning cham, but I was pulling for a Ram victory because he also seemed to be a very good player with a wide range of knowledge, but mainly because I found him very attractive. 😉

I thought he was attractive too.

I got that one, too... and didn't realize it was no longer in use and that knowing what it is means I'm old!

They're still in use at my house.  They hook up my dvd player to the tv.  I was just assuming these young whippersnappers on the show didn't get it because they were too young, lol.

I did okay last night.  Ran Man-Agrams, State Holidays and WWI.  Got all but one clue in Communications, Outdoor Cats (Damn you, caracal, why weren't you the serval cat I keep saying you were?), Starts With "H" and TV Foursomes.  Also got 8 stumpers/missed DDs: Mt. Ararat, semaphore, Timbaland, snow leopard, Helios, Sopwith Camel (no Great Pumpkin fans among the contestants?), Liege and Three Rivers Stadium.

FJ was an instaget for me.  I actually good see my copy of Paul Theroux's book by that name on my bookshelf while watching the show.

The clue didn't say they are no longer in use. Coaxial cables are still in use - they connect my tvs to the cable tv outlets, and our internet router, which is what the clue says they are used for.

Clue: "Used to carry high frequency signals for TV & Internet connections, it's the type of cable seen here."

Yeah, I was just assuming relative youngness as the reason none of the contestants got the clue, figuring they'd all be more familiar with other methods of connecting to their tvs for streaming and whatnot.  Now get off my lawn.

Then he said “yeti cat” and it was all over.

Yeesh. "Yeti cat" almost wiped out the embarrassing 14 TSs.
Even I was yelling "Snow Leopard!"
Maybe he had a touch of stage fright and blanked with the focus of the DD?
He did get his other DD of Hindenburg, so maybe he just needed a practice session. Do they do that?
Or would the 14 TSs indicate there was some back-stage/on-stage kerfuffle before the game?

I had no clue for FJ and got hung up on volcanoes, thinking of the Three Sisters peaks in Oregon.
Note to self: When nonplussed by FJ, refocus on the category (this has happened before).
The correct response made sense, except maybe the category should have been something like Geography of Mythology? (Pillars of Hercules)
Oh well. Often it seems FJ is more about the wager, and in this case, I think that was true.

Oooh! How exciting! Can you at least tell us which podium you’re at so we know who to root for (or against)? Either way, please come back and share your experience. It’s always fun to get an insider’s perspective. And congratulations for making the show! That’s no small feat.

Nice to "meet" you. Congratulations on making it to the Alex Trebek Stage!

I see that you just joined Primetimer a few hours ago and this is your very first post. How exactly did you find our little corner of the world?

In J I missed one in Amphibians & Reptiles and Name a Woman, two in Books & Authors, Swap a Vowel, and For a Dollar, and three in 19th Century Sports. In DJ I ran Jury Duty, missed one in Crossword Clues R, two in World History, From the AFI Catalog, and Art Class, and three in Canadiana. I got FJ right (though at first I said Blanche Devereaux, and then thought, wait, that's not right).

TSes: (J had 5; DJ had 4) I got piddle/puddle, Ptolemaic Dynasty, and Newfoundland.

I did get FJ today, while we are sailing north from Kaikoura.  We had a lovely morning, either whale-watching or seabird sighting -- I chose the birds, and they were delightful.  Seas are currently pretty calm, and we hope that by staying another half day in Kaikoura, we can avoid the giant storm near Napier and Gisbourne.  That storm is causing us to have to bypass both Napier and Gisbourne, as the seas will be too rough and the winds too fierce to get us safely ashore.  No great loss, really, all things considered.

And apparently there was a large earthquake near Vanuatu yesterday?  Along with a smaller one not too far from where we were anchored?  We didn't notice anything, but I'm very glad there was not an associated tsunami!

I got distracted by a phone call shortly after the show, and just now remembered to post.

They have to have forgotten the category (especially since it was the first clue revealed there) for sand dollar to be a TS.  I knew Smokey & the Bandit was going to be a TS, though (I watched that movie so many times as a kid I still know it verbatim to this day, so that was an instaget for me, but the clue wasn't worded in a way that cultural osmosis would make the response readily available to casual fans or those who just know it by its reputation).

I was terrible in books; I didn't know any of them, and the only clue I correctly guessed was roses (since it was a romance).  Other than that disaster, I had a fantastic first round -- I got everything but Belmont in sports and ran the rest.

In DJ, I was stunned to run art.  I also ran jury (I'd have been equally stunned not to) and Canadiana.  I got everything but Empire of the Sun in AFI, all but rainbow in crossword clues, and missed two in history, so it was a very good round for me.

At first I just stared blankly at FJ, thinking this was going to be two in a row where I had absolutely no idea, but then it came to me and I knew I was correct.

I got totally misled by my high school Latin, and was stuck on alba? Alabaster? Albacore? Wait, what’s “woods”? Forest? Oh, glad it was obvious to all the players!

I got stuck on my late cat's name, Bosco, meaning forest in Italian. Then I tried to think of a character named Alba Bosco and never got any further. I think it was Ghost Bosco preventing me from thinking beyond him.

Decent first round, not so decent second. In J I ran Slang Words, missed one in Christmas Songs and 3 of a Kind, and two in Poli Sci, Mountains, and Weird. In DJ I missed one in Scientific Papers, two in Poli Sci-Fi, Victorian Verse,  Organizations, and Statuary Hall, ad four in Before & After. Did not get FJ.

TSes: (J had 2 + the DD; DJ had 4 + both DDs) I got nebulae, giant sequoia (I actually said giant redwood, but wikipedia says the GS is also known as the GR, so I'm taking it), and Casterbridge (DD).

If our new poster is Eric...congrats! and if not, good game, anyway!

I know I did...

Instaget FJ for me today, while traveling on medium seas (1-3 meter swells) between Kaikoura and Tauranga.  We just had a fairly large pod of common dolphins race in to join us for a bit.  They love swimming alongside or just ahead of the ship.  We had Hector's dolphins the other day -- they are very small and very cute.

The Great Lakes TS surprised me a bit, but no shockers tonight.

I had no idea the MPAA is now the MPA -- learned something new today.

I ran Christmas songs (impressive since I hate all five of those [to be fair, I hate most Christmas songs]) and poli sci and got all but the ick in slang (which is far better than I expected), but missed two each in the rest of the first round.

Thank you, Laura Roslin, for keeping me from blowing the sci-fi category entirely.  I also did better in Victorian Verse than expected, which is to say I "only" missed three.  I missed another three in statues.  Needless to say, DJ was not my round.  I only ran organizations, but I got close in before & after, getting all but My Dinner With Andrew the Giant.  I missed two in titles.

But, to end on a high note, FJ was an instaget.

I'm thinking also that Achilles can't post again til after losing and no longer being on the show.

Somebody better tell him that, because he’s already commented on the Jeopardy sub-Reddit for yesterday’s game!

Nah, I don’t see why the show would care, as long as there are no posted spoilers about upcoming games.

I've seen plenty of players comment on their games on reddit (though I guess I looked too soon after last night's game because I didn't see any of his comments at the time); I don't think it's an issue as long as they only discuss what's already aired.

I'll be watching football tonight, so just checked the archive.

The midsummer TS really surprised me.  So did get set, but maybe both are instances of not paying attention to the category when the first of its clues is revealed.  The trenches TS surprised me a little, too.

I missed two each in movies and questions, but ran the rest of the first round.

While I surprised myself by running poetry, I was every bit as awful in gods as I anticipated -- blew the category entirely.  (I knew Cupid in the first clue, but didn't have even one name for the rest.)  And I missed three in TV.  So not a good DJ, for sure, but not terrible; I ran Shakespeare and science, and missed two each in the rest.

FJ was an instaget.

In J I missed three in US History and two in everything else. In DJ I ran Science, missed one in A Word in a Shakespeare Play, two in Ocean and Greek/Roman God, and three in Boomers and Write for TV.

Surprising absolutely no one, I'm sure, I had no clue for FJ.

TSes: (J had 6 + the DD; DJ had 10) I got get set, John Marshall (DD), Bartholomew Cubbins, low key, Midsummer, Arctic Ocean, Bay of Bengal, and Eros/Cupid.

I said the Browns, also.

I got the missed clues of bury sherry, John Marshall, get set, low key, Eros/Cupid, Arctic ocean, trenches, errors, and gulf stream.  I said Bartholomew but didn't know his last name was Cubbins, so I didn't give myself credit for that.

I got the entire category of Greek to Roman right.

Not a bad night.  Not a great night. But, all those missed clues make me feel smarter than the contestants😊

Haha, I had a glimmer of hope when I saw the FJ! category. I know lots of superb owl history!  Left shark. Wardrobe malfunction. Apple 1984 commercial. Superbowl XXX where searching for it turned up porn results. Oh, it’s about actual teams? Never mind. I punted (sorry) and guessed the Baltimore Colts, based on my extensive knowledge of the movie Diner and my hope that they’d somehow be considered not the same team.

I had absolutely no idea for FJ tonight.  I randomly threw out a team name with no hope that it would even be in the ballpark.  And it wasn't.  We are currently docked in Tauranga, and had lovely day out at Te Puia in Rotorua, a short coach ride away.

I checked a couple of categories, and got most of The Science Fare and all of Go Jump in the Ocean.  I was surprised that a couple of the Ocean ones were TS.

Only one more day on the ship -- we are all happy and sad, and many of us kind of dread going back home where it's winter.  It was quite toasty today, and really weird seeing Christmas decorations everywhere.

I found those very easy. I also claim that I got all of the Shakespeare titles, although in fairness I didn't actually say Errors because I was too busy shouting "elbow surgery!!!!" when I saw the name Tommy John.  (That information stuck in my mind in the aftermath of contestant Alex's failed DD in this game.)

Decent game for me. I got some TSs and ran both Poets and Writers categories. FJ, however, was a big fat “huh?” Team names change so often that I can’t even keep track of who’s playing now, much less back then.

Welcome back to this hemisphere, @Browncoat! I hope you smuggled a penguin or two into your cabin to bring home.

Did pretty well in the first round, except for one meh category. Ran Science Bookshelf, missed one in Fountains, TV, and Business Names, two in Numeric Phrases, and three in Silk. DJ wasn't too bad except for two categories…missed one in Computer Tech, Mr. & Mrs. Lit, and "Hog" Calling, two in Pop Culture Physics (should have been 1; I got as far as David H- but couldn't get -arbour out of my brain; still, not bad considering I've never seen Stranger Things), and three in Historic Songs of the Brits and World Religions.

Hadn't a clue for FJ. Don't know anything about the movie so that was no help.

TSes: (J had 4; DJ had 7 + 1 DD) I got Swarovski, Mrs. Dalloway (DD), Dylan Thomas, hogshead, and Hogmanay.

Joe's story cracked me up. "The doctors decided I needed my tonsils out, and I disagreed." Just picturing a tiny 5yo Joe waking up and groggily punching the doctor in the face.

We've just left the Great Barrier Island near Auckland, and are headed towards another of the smaller islands in the bay to see if we can spot cetaceans and/or little blue penguins.  We've seen lots of Australasian Gannets, and got soaked in an unexpected (and unexpectedly heavy) rain on Great Barrier Island.  I did not get Friday's FJ, and I'm blaming it on the rain.  The one day off the ship that I opted not to use my rain pants!  It was so nice and sunny and warm when we left the ship for our outing!  At least I did have my rain coat and tall boots.

Here in Rochester NY, Jeopardy! will air at 3:37 a.m.

I Youtubed it, my only TS being hogshead (no idea how I knew it).

Yesterday I got FJ's Jets because late night comedians have been making fun of them all season. I haven't seen a football game in decades.
Yesterday I also got the TSs of Bartholomew Cubbins and Arctic Ocean.

Oh, no! This is so sad!  Just saw this on thejeopardyfan.com

Quote

Maria’s interview became more poignant with the news that she broke on Reddit this morning that her husband passed away suddenly three weeks ago; while Maria did tell her husband how she did, she did not tell him about the interview; it was intended to be a surprise for him. The Jeopardy! Fanwishes to express condolences toward Maria and her family.

If you go to today’s recap on that site, the text I quoted included a link to the Reddit posts, but that didn’t copy over.
