Browncoat November 14 Share November 14 Ah, Rabbie Burns -- it could only be the Highlands, of course. Instaget FJ for me. And I got the TS of YooHoo, Monaco, Pendleton, space, corundum, and box. 2 Link to comment
Bastet November 14 Share November 14 The space heater TS surprised me, as did no one guessing box. I fully expected to blow the lit category entirely, but I managed to correctly guess Icebreaker. Other than that disaster, I had a great first round, getting everything else but Pendleton. I had a great DJ, as well; I missed two each in colleges and history, got all but corundum in minerals, and ran the rest. I groaned when I saw the FJ category, and indeed didn't know the poem being quoted, but because Burns was Scottish, the description made me think Highlands, so that was my guess, having no idea if he had a poem with that in the title. Lucked into that one! 2 1 Link to comment

30 Helens Thursday at 03:31 PM Share Thursday at 03:31 PM I feel cheated. I was never taught any of these pneumonics. I only learned the Great Lakes one in recent years, but I can never remember that the word is HOMES, so it’s of no help. But the next time I have to think about taxonomy, I’ll try to remember that some king had sex? With his family? And there were pumpkins involved? Oh, never mind. I had no idea for the Robert Burns clue, other than they wanted a place in Scotland, obviously. The only Burns poem I know is about the mice and their men, and how their schemes gang aft agley. 4 4 1 Link to comment

But Mom (born in 1928) could've been a Jeopardy! champ even today if she was still here and physically able. Bastet Friday at 12:12 AM Share Friday at 12:12 AM I'll be watching football tonight, so just checked the archive. The Good Earth being a TS surprised me, as did no one guessing West Point or Armani. I was terrible in raves, only getting Moulin Rouge, but if not for that I'd have had a great first round -- I missed two in made that, got all but upright in UP, and ran the rest. I did pretty well in DJ; I ran musical, fashion, and words and got all but Fight Club in fiction. I missed three in Greece and two in aviators. If you asked me when All Saints Day is, I couldn't even tell you the month, let alone the specific date (quite frankly, I'd probably respond "There's an All Saints Day?"), so FJ was one of the only clues about an NFL team I've ever missed. Boo, hiss. 2 Link to comment
ams1001 Friday at 12:33 AM Share Friday at 12:33 AM November 14: 63% / 73% / 67% Actually did better in the second round than the first tonight. In J I ran Rays, missed one in O'er the Land of the Free, two in What's "Up", We Made That, and Hobbies & Pastimes, and four in Home of the Rave. In DJ I ran 20th Century Fiction and Fashion Designers, missed one in Ancient Greece, two in Musical Ett(e)s and 13-Letter Words, and three in Aviators. Didn't get FJ. I know when All Saints Day is but I didn't make the connection. I can tell you it's November 1 if you asked, but just hearing the date doesn't make me think All Saints Day. TSes: (J had 4 + the DD; DJ had 9) I got stingray, Aeschylus, The Good Earth, Earthrise, and Armani. graybrown bird Friday at 02:50 AM Share Friday at 02:50 AM Long ago I had a recording of the Scottish tenor Kenneth McKellar singing songs of Scotland. (The fishermen and ghost hunters part of the clue, probably.) Don't remember what I ended up saying, but obviously it was wrong as hell. I did pretty well otherwise. Ran 3 categories (Tooling Up, Friends and Last Lines) and got all but one clue in 6 others (American Wife, Highways, Animals, Sculptors, "M"iscellany and Songs). And I got a whopping 10 stumpers: Abby Wampach, awl, The Comeback, fiat & fat, diefy & defy (although I did put them in the past tense since the clue said "made", not "make"), The House at Pooh Corner, Donatello (my favorite Renaissance sculptor), Maya Lin, Miss Moneypenny and scandal. In DJ I did horribly…ran Healthy Body (but they only got to four of them), missed two in Historical "T", three in 9-Letter Words, and four in Countries, R&B, and Literary Settings (which they also only got to four of). Never read/watched Game of Thrones, couldn't name a Graham Greene novel off the top of my head if you paid me, have only read one Faulkner book and hated it, and blanked on the Harry Potter town.
