Okay, Fellowjackets, rise and shine and don’t forget your booties because it’s coooold out there. Misty makes a leap of faith for her bestie, Natalie and Lottie play a game of surrender, Shauna finds herself unexpectedly randy, and Tai seeks out a movie recommendation.

Original air date: April 21, 2023 (streaming) / April 23, 2023 (Showtime)

During that scene, I kept going: "Oh my God, Misty, no no NO!"  You'd think even someone so deluded would recognize that admitting you destroyed the transmitter is on a different level from admitting you lied about your name.  RIP Crystal.

Could the "she" Javi referred to be Other Tai?

The adult Van and Tai scenes were so compelling.

Oh adult Shauna, you’re about to be in so much deep shit.

The second Misty admitted to Crystal on that snowbank about the transmitter, I know Crystal wasn’t surviving the episode. Oof.

I enjoyed this ... I've been a bit of a complainer about this season vs last so glad to be able to enthuse. Adult Van/Tai scenes crackled - such a great dynamic between them. And so interesting to know they were still a duo at Shauna's wedding.

Still find it hard to believe that Lottie constructed all that and lured rich people to pay her lots of money without leaving a trail Misty could follow. I guess we're supposed to see that Misty is not actually all that good a detective, or there was some reason she intentionally took her eye off the ball with Lottie.

Ok interesting episode. Spoiler tagging for the Sunday folks.

Spoiler

I am not 100% sure I'm content where this story line is going (not that my opinion means more than a spoon of beans.)  I have to see more to see if I like where it's going with Lottie.

Oh Randy, how could you not know cops are smart enough to check that? Cmon now, that's basic cop stuff. Smarter to leave nothing so they think you flushed it, but leave the wrapper in the trash.

I guess good for Callie coming clean with her parents on what's going on so they can get ahead of it? First positive thing I have seen from Callie, finally. I was so beginning to despise her.

Lol what was up with Walter and that weird Barry Manilow drop? And what does that even mean? Aren't we all 99% related if you go back far enough?

Nat totally got hypnotized.

Javi my man, who is she? And is she related to mirror Tai?

Shauna...oy you have my sympathy girl, not a good situation. Past or present!!!

Misty Misty Misty....you are reasonably smart, how could you not see that was such a major blunder?

Not sure I liked or disliked this one. It was quite a mixed up stew of elements. I'm assuming it all comes together at some point.

Tai is bad for Van, Nat was bad for Travis, and Misty is bad for everyone.

I hate the way this is edited. The flashes of Natalie's memory shows the face of the antler queen with the net up off her face. I had to rewind about 10 times to see it was adult Natalie.

And yes, one more scene directly from The Secret History, but this one is spot on. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I didn't even think of that with the cliff thing ... assume that's what you mean?

This was the first time I liked Callie as well, but what a family.  All we've seen is dysfunction, dysfunction, dysfunc -- "Hey, Callie.  I killed a man and your dad knows and is fine with it all."  Suddenly they are the Nelson Family (as in Ozzie and Harriet for you young folk).  Although I suppose the Cleaver family is the more apt analogy.

Randy is dumber than the dirt that Tai likes to eat.  If I was Shauna, I'd probably have hated Jackie for trying to fix me up with him more than anything else.

I loved the episode, but I feel like the Adam murder plot is becoming a farce. If the cops have records of hundreds of texts between Shauna and Adam, then they also have zero texts between Shauna and Randy (or at least none prior to setting up their meeting at the motel). Shauna is just making things worse for herself by creating more lies to cover up the original lie. I think it'll all end up moot, given that Jay and Kevyn are doing enough illegal things to botch the case on their own, but it's hard to believe Jeff and Shauna are this stupid.

I knew Crystal was going off that cliff the moment Misty 'fessed up to destroying the transmitter. Also, did anyone think it was a bit strange the other survivors had practically no reaction to Misty claiming Crystal got lost? I know she was an outcast, but they barely acknowledged her before panicking over Shauna and Tai.

Lauren Ambrose is already killing it, talk about flawless casting. Adult Van renting 90's VHS tapes despite it clearly not paying the bills was sort of sad. These girls were never truly able to move on. Interesting though, that she and Tai were still together at Shauna's wedding. I wonder when things went south?

The show unfortunately went with one of my most hated tropes: missing character returns and is too traumatized to give badly needed information. Travis annoyed me with his attitude. Obviously they can't beat answers out of Javi, but they're starving and their pregnant friend is about to give birth in the woods. There's a bit of urgency here, bro. If Javi found other structures, that might lead them to maps, supplies, a food stash or something that might help them get rescued.

Nat's vision of everyone dying in the plane crash freaked me out. That would be crazy if that's what actually happened and the forest spirit brought them back to life.

Somebody's got a thing for strawberries. First the strawberry lube and now the strawberry lotion. The detective smelling that used condom and saying "Strawberries!" was pretty hilarious. Especially with the reactions of his partner in the background.

Poor Jeff. Asked to let people believe his wife would cheat on him with Randy. I thought when Randy wasn't able to produce *ahem* the product, that Shauna would have to give him a handy. But toxic masculinity wins again and Randy fakes it with strawberry lotion.

Detective Mustache is flying a little too close to the sun in regards to his relationship with Callie. There's no way that's going to end well for him. It will be funny to watch them try to play each other, though.

RIP Crystal/Kristin. I knew she was going over that cliff as soon as Misty opened her big fat mouth. Super lucky for Misty that a storm blew in so she could more easily cover her tracks.

Van running a VCR/VHS tape rental store is pretty telling  She is definitely living in the past.

Could be. Or the Antler Queen? Other Tai could also be the Antler Queen and/or the "dark force" that Nat claims has returned and Travis said she was right about. I mean, Other Tai showing up at the same time is pretty coincidental. Or, wild speculation, there is a separate "dark force" that they encounter in the woods and Other Tai is actually a force for good and is necessary to defeat the Evil Force. That would explain why Other Tai showed up now. All that sounds mystical but could just be a metaphor for their trauma, as well.

I finally sussed it outt. Detective Matt (Callie's cop friend) has reminded me of someone since he came on the show, and I could not pin it down.

Today I had a memory flash - Matt totally reminds me of Pornstache from Orange is the New Black.

It seems like Shauna and Jeff got married pretty soon after the rescue so Tai and Van could have potentially parted ways pretty quickly.

This episode was so fucking good. I feel like some of what I was missing in the first few eps is coming back (the humor, the lighthearted moments between the teens, the adults being together) and I’m really happy about that.

The Shauna/Jeff/Callie stuff really does feel like farce and like it’s just filler because they don’t really have enough meat to fill so many long eps but I enjoy the hell out of it so I don’t mind.

I find Javi not telling them anything so annoying. It better not last for too many eps. Javi drawing the tree with the roots made me think about the trees with the melted snow and possibly something being underground. I didn’t even think of the ‘she’ he was talking about being Dark Tai but that makes a lot of sense.

The actor also seems to be making a career out of investigating teenagers on premium cable shows.  He plays Deputy Callahan on Stranger Things too.  At least he hasn't tried to take Eleven bowling.

“Grandma committed murder, but she never forgot a birthday card!”

Misty judging mental institution Lottie?

Poor Crystal. Kristen.

Young Lottie is getting creepier.

The darkness they brought back, could also just be their trauma.

Has young Shauna even felt the baby kick? I know she's had no care, because they're in the middle of nowhere. (I've just remembered that my mum said I didn't kick, I would send a gentle ripple out, every so often.) But she should be feeling something, shouldn't she? I'm not thrilled with the Rosemary's Baby vibes.

I'm mostly getting bored with this. I don't think it's the kind of story you can drag out for five years. It really feels like it's just spinning its wheels. I'm especially bored with Taissa's story. She just keeps blacking out and freaking out and it never seems to go anywhere. I'm not up for three more years of that. The next five episodes are going to have to work really hard to make me care enough to tune in for another season of this.

Misty really gave it away when she ran into the cabin and said "I lost her!" right off the bat. She should have first asked if Crystal had come back. She basically telegraphed that she already knew Crystal couldn't be there.

The poop dumping scene was so gross. And yeah, you could see the cliff dive coming a mile away.

I know I've brought this up before but Van's cheek was torn wide enough open you could see her teeth. Unless one of those girls is the most skilled plastic surgeon in the country there's no way they sewed it up again so neatly all it left was a v-shaped red line on her face. The muscles would have been severed, and that half of her face would have been permanently paralyzed. She'd be horrifically disfigured assuming she even survived such an attack. Maybe they don't want to be bothered with elaborate prosthetics or CGI but they never should have made her injury so gruesome in the first place.

Was CPR to the tune of “Stayin’ Alive” a thing in the 90s? For reasons I won’t get into, I can pinpoint when I first learned that and it was 2013.    It felt like an anachronism to me to push that into 1996.  Happy to be proven wrong, but it felt jarring to me.

Yes, that’s always the song I’ve been told to use for CPR rhythm, going way back.

I vaguely remember it coming up in an episode of the U.S. version of The Office, but that would have been likely around 2007 or 2008.

Of everything on this show, the one time I had to cover my eyes and ears was when Misty started tellng that secret.

A lot of people think Misty's supposed to be a serial killer, but I wonder if Walter isn't another case of the show leaning into elaborate theories only to debunk them.

Seems like there must be some explanation since Misty herself lampshaded it. I know she was just trying to think about something other than Nat again being mean to her and rejecting her, but Misty really is a good detective--at least this good, since this isn't that hard.

Randy blows it again. They were actually close to a cover story until the idiot decided to not only leave a used condom, but leave a condom that screamed it was pretend rather than just let Shauna give him the handy she totally would have if she had to do it. And if not, she would have just pretended he couldn't get it up and comforted him or something.

I'm guessing Tai started repressing and dismissing everything that happened and Van couldn't deal with that--and Van was too much of a reminder.

I heard elsewhere that it's apparently an actual Thing of kids getting lost for a long time in the wilderness and returning with no memory of what happened.

But then, you'd have to wonder why it only brought some of them back. Sure, maybe it didn't want the pilot but what did Wonderwall girl do to not survive?

(Not that I think there's actually anything supernatural about their survival of the plane crash. It's a pretty accurate metaphor to say they all "died" when the plane crashed.)

She has. Even in this ep Tai referred to the baby making her uncomfortable sitting on her bladder or something. And she felt it at Doomcoming--and maybe also at the Jackie Feast.

I'm loving all of this and so excited for everybody to get to Lottie's. Shauna's going to need some help with Misty. Also interesting that...

Spoiler

from the previews it looks like Lottie's hostile towards Misty, which she hasn't been so far in the past.

I like how Akilah keeps reaching out just a little to Tai. There's an unspoken understanding there. And I like how is shows people taking the first couple of steps by just enjoying the morning rituals without having to really believe in it deep down, and Tai doing it because even though she doesn't think it's helping her sleep, she's been sleeping since she started going. (And Travis thinking he might have found Javi sooner if he hadn't stopped believing.) Confirmation bias is strong!

Shauna's the one in Rosemary Woodhouse's position, rightfully terrified about Lottie's plans for her baby, which is keeping her firmly in reality. Though that still hasn't brought her closer to Natalie.

Agreed and Crystal lying about her name wasn't even a manipulative fib, rather she didn't correct a mistake and it didn't hurt anyone. Entirely different ball of wax than Misty deliberately sabotaging their rescue, which set off a chain of events where two of their teammates died and the rest are traumatized and starving. I thought the young lady playing Crystal gave a phenomenal performance in that scene. Just the way her facial expressions slowly changed, and then telling Misty, "you're not that good of an actress," when Misty tried to play it off like she was joking. Great work, and I'm sad to see her go.

With regards to Akilah, wasn't she firmly team Lottie last episode? It seems like an abrupt turnaround that she doesn't really believe in any of it, and was the last to join the prayer circle. Should we take bets on how long that mouse will last?

Maybe she wasn't so firmly team Lottie but just arguing that side of it because even before she joined the circle she was seeing value in it?

It seems significant that she waits for Tai to join despite Mari already being there. Akilah's always seemed very aware of being in a delicate position in terms of where she fits and sometimes looks to Tai as a good touchstone.

Misty can’t have nice things like friends because she murders them…well kinda.  Crystal dying was kinda sad but it parallels Walter kinda figuring out what happened to Adam nicely.  He got enough right and profiled Misty pretty correctly.   She is charming but impulsive.

I also liked the adult Van stuff.   Working/probably owning a vhs store a relic of the past is an interesting thing for someone who is likely stuck in the past like a large number of the YellowJackets.  I liked her scenes with Tai and how she immediately knew when she was dealing with The Other Tai.

Shauna and Callie bonding when Shauna goes full on sociopath.

This show is like my wet dream for a show about the female sociopath.

So now we learn that just about everyone has killed someone...Shauna kills her lover, Misty kills Christy, Lottie kills or agrees to help near death experience that becomes a full on death experience with Trav, and of course there is Jackie who became a popsicle then becomes dinner for everyone...so many kills.

Where was Coach Ben in this last episode?

He was there twice. In the background when Travis was going off on Natalie and then he found Javi's drawings/talked to Javi. I assume we're supposed to think he's still spending most of his time lying in bed fantasizing about his life with Paul.

TBF, Misty didn't actually kill Crystal. But she did kill Jessica Roberts!

I listened to a presentation at this YJ symposium where a person noted there's a surprising number of kills where the murder is sort of displaced. Misty threatens to kill Crystal, who then accidentally dies. Nat pulls the trigger on her father, but he actually dies by tripping and shooting himself. Shauna fights with Jackie, then Jackie dies by deciding herself to stay outside in the cold.

I don't think so seems like Javi would have a stronger reaction to regular Tai, I don't think he'd understand she has two different identities. Then again he did age 2 years and grow two feet in 2 months so? To think Lost just disappeared Walt for the same reasoning (he'd grow up even while the Lost timeline was radically compacted).

Quote

That would be crazy if that's what actually happened and the forest spirit brought them back to life.

She envisioned burned corpses, I assume taken together with Other Tai's (I refuse to call her dark, because I suspect Other Tai motives are protection) statement to Van, "we're not supposed to be here" is Nat saw a sliding door, and that the wood witch saved them straight up from a certain pre-ordained death. I think OT's statement was also about being in Ohio currently, and that the Yellowjackets will converge around the Honey Cult/Hive. I thought it was so heartbreaking how vulnerable Tai could be with Van, and how she essentially probably shed Van for exactly that reason, too much a reminder of the darkness, when she wanted to wall off her new live from her old one. Then we learned that Van couldn't share her pain/darkness with Tai. That storyline is crushing.

I'm not thrilled with the Rosemary's Baby vibes.

I fucking LOVE the Rosemary's Baby vibes it is one of my all time favorite movies, and I very much think that's what the allusions are about. Hail Satan!

While I enjoy the Shauna storyline and it's got Melanie Lynskie, so of course it's good, I can't wait for her to be extricated from the Keystone Coppery piece. Leave Jeff/Callie to clean up things in the Present while she goes and cleans things up in the past. I do actually like that they are so so bad at crime, most people in the real world are. Misty is only being felled by having to cover up someone elses spontaneous murder where as she is meticulous planner.

I screamed when she told Crystal/Kristin about the box, and I also screamed when Crystal told a psycho she was psycho right to her face. Then the wood witch helped a sister out and brought a storm and covered up her body. I laughed so hard when the girls were so worried about Tai/Shauna and gave not a tiny tin fuck about missing Crystal.

I'm not sure if Javi's friend is corporeal or a spirit wind who talks to him, but cough it up kiddo.

I was fascinated by Lottie being so afraid of all this coming back, if Natalie would listen, she'd hear that Lottie wants the past to be just a product of untreated mental illness in the woods, rather than something that can't be controlled, whether its inside them or some external force from that woods. All the girls have found a way to avoid confronting, reconciling the past Nat and Trav used drug, Van self isolated, Lottie hiding in the woods with her honey and followers, Shauna hiding in suburban life she never wanted, Tai hiding in a life she always wanted. Misty is the only one who embraces it and wants to hold on to it forever.

It just occurred to me that when Javi said ‘she told me not to come back’ that he might have meant she told him not to come back to where he had been hiding (perhaps something having to do with the tree he drew) and not that she told him not to come back to the cabin.

Maybe there's a few Ents among the trees and they gave him some Ent-draughts that made him grow?  😃

I love Rosemary’s Baby, too, but again, I feel like some people are watching an entirely different show than I am here. 🤦‍♀️

Lottie’s obsession with the baby, and cult-like behavior.  Scaring Shauna.

I'm confused. This is not a racist comment but how many of the teenagers Survivors in Season 2 are black? I originally counted 2 but maybe there are 3 as I thought Crystal died, yet in the final moments there was another black female character not the one who becomes a State Senator & I'm sure Crystal didn't come back to life. Am I wrong? I also don't know who the white Brunette character is who looks like a combination of Shauna & Lottie. Some of these teen characters look too much alike.

I thought this was my imagination because none of the characters remarked on this. I assume this is a different actor. Where is adult Javi?

Are you talking about Akilah, the girl with the pet mouse? She's been there since season one (although the s1 actress was recast for s2).
