Okay, I looked up just in time to see Brendan and Patton being goofy in the intro; what did Michael do?

I like Mayim's dress.

I hadn't the foggiest clue what that between-the-scenes Blarney Stone clue was even asking for, let alone what the correct response might be...

Heh, I had the same question. For some reason it didn't bother me too much, because it sounded like real laughter instead of her fakey giggle she usually does.

----------

Yay, I was rooting for Patton.

Calm down, Mayim.

That one, I figured out, but the one about the ballroom confused me.

Wow!  Hooray for Patton!  I am gobsmacked that two of them missed FJ.  That seemed particularly easy, even for Celebrity Jeopardy.

But now I don't know whether to root for Patton or Wil in the next round.

I missed what Michael did (if anything) also.

Shocked that Michael didn't get it (he is Canadian after all and so is the author), it's one of the most talked about shows and shocked that Brendan who was very on the ball with his answers didn't get it either.

I'm now torn between Patton and Wil.

Nothing funny. Just stood there with a slight smile and waved at the end of his intro.

I don’t remember the exact wording but I thought it was kind of funny. Not as funny as Mayim thought it was, but it did seem kind of snarky, which I don’t really expect from Jeopardy clues.

I hoped they would get it but I can see how it might be a challenge to connect the category Novels to the TV series to the 1986 date. I remember reading the novel and seeing the movie adaptation with Natasha Richardson so it was something that seemed obvious to me but if you don't know enough about the plot and or don't know how long ago the novel came out it wouldn't be.

Great game; I'm a little surprised FJ was so lopsided given how evenly matched it was throughout.  Oswald's "What the hell?" when he realized he won was great.

Our first J! curse of this celebrity edition -- Lisa Marie Presley.  (There's no actual curse, of course, it's just that over the regular show's history there have been enough clues referencing someone [either in the clue or as the correct response] who wound up dying between taping and airing, the reference came to be.)

I loved how they all just stared blankly during the audio clip of the pop music clue none of them knew, as that was me.  So I also laughed at Mayim saying, "See, we old people can get a pop music clue" when the next one was about the Go-Go's.

I also laughed when Mayim got the giggles over the Gerber clue so bad she had to apologize.

I thought all the DDs were really easy for a semi-final, even in a celebrity tournament.

The pop music category kept me from running the first round; I missed three of those.  I missed another three in the second, but one each in three categories.  I came the closest to running the third round, but missed two in trees.  As for FJ, I've never read the book or watched the TV series, so it took a lot more thinking than any previous FJ on this show has, but it came to me in time.

I adore Patton Oswalt, but Brendan Hunt should be going to the finals.
And I bet Patton would agree.
Is there some other scoring method they could use for Celebrity Jeopardy! to make sure the celebrity who will respond to the most clues will go the finals? Tweak the value added of FJ somehow?
IDK. DDs can skew things too.

But I knew it was a mistake for Brendan not to wager everything on that first DD.
And Mayim said Patton's claim to Celebrity Jeopardy! fame was his earnings——rather than number of correct answers like Brendan.
Wagering is a crucial part of the game——which the celebrities don't seem to grasp as well as the regular Jeopardy! players do.
Maybe Patton will do well in the next round.

If there was a Celebrity Jeopardy! show every week night, I would give up regular Jeopardy! in a heartbeat. These clues and responses are so much more on my level.

I too was surprised they didn't all get the Handmaid's Tale, but I'm a librarian, whereas they are actors, and:

Mayim should put on a retainer the stylist who dressed her for this episode.

I don't remember the phrasing, either, but yeah, it was funny and obviously intended to be so.

I do feel a little bad for Brendan but wagering is a huge part of this game. He knew he made a mistake in his final wager but I think his biggest mistake was not using the DDs to their full potential. He was safe in his wagering, even though he was getting most of the questions right. He was already guaranteed $50,000 for his charity so a few higher wagers, especially when he had commanding lead, would have made it impossible for Patton to catch up and win even if Patton did bet everything.

Looking forward to the Finals next week - I think it will be a lot of fun.

I watched this yesterday as there was nothing else on. I liked all three Celebrities. And loved when Patton was shocked that he won ;).

I will say it was a bet jarring to go from Jeopardy to this. Ken is just a better host. I was confused on what Mayim laughing at multiple times and she just seemed to be going along with the motions without the passion for the game (at least not as much as Ken clearly has). But I guess that's okay for celebratory Jeopardy. I was pleasantly surprised to see the constants however, were taking it seriously well until the end. But that's okay as it was FJ and I had no idea either.

I think she's much better suited to Celebrity Jeopardy. It's just a more relaxed vibe in general so her giggliness doesn't bug as much (as long as the celebs don't go too off the rails; I feel like a couple of the earlier games were a little much but they toned it down since. Not sure if that's just down to the particular celebs' personalities or if the producers told them to rein it in).

So happy for Patton. I’m no Mayim fan but she looked better than I have ever seen her look. Also, I laughed like a loon at that Gerber clue because it’s so close to Patton’s comedy style. And it was funny.

Yeah:

I wonder if she was seeing it for the first time? Or would she and the J! crew have already laughed uncontrollably about it in rehearsal?

Bigger question: Why the quotes?

Yes! Very in the vein of Patton's "failure pile in a sadness bowl" bit 😄

Maybe it was the 6th clue for the category, and she hadn’t really read it before. Or maybe she just got the giggles. It’s happened to all of us. Probably even Alex Trebek. It just wasn’t edited here because this s the light hearted one hour long show. Not the tightly timed serious 30 minute show.

I thought Mayim was generally acting like she had too many gummies, pre-show.

Great game! In the non-celebrity edition, the win sometimes goes to a player who isn't in the lead, but stays competitive throughout, then is the only one to nail FJ. It was interesting to see it happen here. Overall, Brendan played the better game, but I've been a fan of Patton for close to 20 years, so I love to see him do well!

For those who don't like that Patton won from behind based on FJ!, I do think he knew a lot of the answers but was being beaten to the buzzer. That's part of the game, just like DD and wagering. But he picked up almost all the rebounds--when someone else rang in wrong he then quickly rang in correctly. All of that is part of the game, and I think Patton earned his spot.
