So funny how many mothers she played.  The list seemed endless.

I know it's a bit late. However, I think this might be a good time to consider the life of the now-deceased Lulu Roman. To begin with she was born as Bertha Louise Hable to a non-married mother in Texas who gave her '6 or 7' possible given names for her male parent but no surname so Ms. Roman was never able to find or meet her male parent.  When she was still a toddler, her maternal grandmother evidently decided she had enough and not only committed Ms. Roman's mother to a mental hospital but placed Ms. Roman in an orphanage! Ms. Roman waited for hours thinking her grandmother would return but got told by the staff that her grandmother was gone and she'd live there from that point on. The poor child burst into tears at the news- and ,even worse ,got her 'first spanking' for reacting that way. She'd spend the rest of her childhood there until she graduated high school. By that point a combination of a thyroid problem AND taking solace in sugary and fatty foods would up her weight to about 300 pounds! She quickly got into a bad crowd and after getting caught using a stolen credit card to attempt to buy a gun, she was arrested. There, another inmate started calling her 'Lulu' and a few years later she married a Juan Pizarro Roman for the latter to get a Green Card. While the marriage to Sr. Roman (pronounced 'row-MOHN' in Spanish though she'd pronounce it the English way) ended after a few years, she would keep the surname the rest of her life.  Anyway, she became billed as 'the world's largest go-go dancer' and caught the attention of Buck Owens who had been cast to star in Hee-Haw and was told to find a 'dumb blonde' and a 'fat girl' to help with the comedy. He thought she'd be a perfect fit for the latter role especially since she had a very quick wit. Of course, this instant nationwide recognition and stardom didn't help but seemed to accentuate her demons and she would be arrested for drug use several times. But then in 1973, she found the peace she'd been lacking her entire life and became a Christian -becoming clean and sober. Moreover, she was able to convince the producers not only to have her back on the show but also to sing Gospel music  via which she surprised everyone with her skillful and impassionate delivery (since she had never seriously attempted to sing on the show before).

While that show was still in production (and Ms. Roman was still a regular- AND raising the elder of her two sons), from 1978-1979, she got cast as Lulu Honey the sassy truck stop diner cashier and matriarch in the sitcom called  Hee-Haw Honeys which also costarred as her elder daughter (of all people) the then-unknown  Kathy Lee Gifford (billed under her first spouse's surname of Johnson ) playing  Kathie Lee Honey the only halfway smart child (and straight woman singer ) of the Honeys while Misty Rowe ('Misty Honey') continued playing the 'dumb blonde' daughter as she had on the parent show. The family seemed to never leave their diner which had regular customers and many country music singer guest stars stopping by for food, comedy and singing.

Anyway, to wrap this up, Ms. Roman would have a successful career as a Gospel singer (and would lose and keep off a considerable amount of weight  )but would later sadly lose her younger son in 2017 but, her faith proved a solace even with that horrible blow. She would live with her elder son in his Washington state home the last part of her life- keeping her strong faith and sense of humor to the end.

Misty Rowe has paid a tribute to her longtime colleague Ms. Roman 'I thank God for her time here on Earth and I know we will all see her again in that great big Kornfield in the sky someday. She will sing us home!'

RIP,Ms.Roman.

Oh, man, I love that song.  For some reason, I never explored the rest of her music, so I only know that and "Supermodel" from Clueless, but "I Kissed a Girl" makes me smile every time it comes up on my iPod.  That article says it was early morning, so I hope she was asleep and died of smoke inhalation; the thought of being aware the house is on fire and unable to get out is terrifying.

Miss Buzzi's  full birth name was Ruth Ann Buzzi. Thankfully, ashe never changed  her surname or its spelling for her performing name. However, she usually let others pronounce it the more comical BUHHZ-ee rather than the original Italian pronunciation of BOOT-zee. Her parents Angelo and Rena ran a funeral parlor during their daughter's childhood (that her older brother Harold would take over after the elder Mr. Buzzi's passing in 1964 until his retirement in 2013) and she said that the whole family would tell jokes to each other to lift their spirits despite their ... livelihood.

Angelo had been born in Ticino- the  Italian-language canton in Switzerland  and had trained as a stonemason from early childhood before emigrating to Rhode Island in the late 1920's. He'd gain quite a bit of renown for his works including the exterior of the Library of Congress. However, to earn a steady living to provide for his family, he and Rena ran the funeral parlor where he'd put his skills to use by carving tombstones.

As for their only daughter, though she kept close ties to her original family her entire life,  she would carve a very different path as a comedienne and, among other distinctions, would be the ONLY cast member of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In that would be in every single episode from beginning to end- besides the hosts (Dan Rowan and Dick Martin) themselves.

BTW, for a time she played the awkward spinster stenographer Agnes Gooch in a theater production of Auntie Mame  which she said would inspire her creation of  her most iconic Laugh-In character- Gladys Ormphby (who Miss Buzzi would revive  to spar with Cookie Monster during her time on Sesame Street ).

RIP ,Miss  Buzzi.

She later revealed the reason she left acting at just 18 was the sexual advances of a screenwriter (33 years older than her) she had trusted as a friend and mentor and (MGM studio head) Louis B. Mayer's dismissive response when she told him about it.

I'm sad about this loss. As a country music fan back in the '70s, I loved Johnny Rodriguez. I still have my album collection and there are about half a dozen Johnny Rodriguez albums in it. He's not someone who's well remembered looking back 50 years. But he was very popular and had many big hits. Rest well Johnny.

Johnny Rodriguez, Hispanic Country Music Star and “That’s the Way Love Goes” Singer, Dies at 73

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/johnny-rodriguez-dead-hispanic-country-music-star-1236213100/

Rodriguez was one of the first Hispanic country music stars, finding success at the beginning of his career after moving to Nashville at 21 and signing a deal with Mercury Records. His first single with the label, 1972’s “Pass Me By (If You’re Only Passing Through),” reached No. 9 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

His first No. 1 hit on the country charts arrived in 1973 with his track “You Always Come Back to Hurting Me,” with his song “Ridin’ My Thumb to Mexico” also reaching No. 1 later that year.

Rodriguez’s debut album, Introducing Johnny Rodriguez, became a No. 1 album on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in 1973. That same year, he received the most promising vocalist honor at the Academy of Country Music Awards and was nominated for single record of the year for “Pass Me By.”

In total, he had six No. 1 tracks on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including “That’s the Way Love Goes,” “I Just Can’t Get Her Out Out of My Mind,” “Just Get Up and Close the Door” and “Love Put a Song in My Heart.”

Pro wrestler Sabu passes away. He was 60 and had recently retired. I'm not that familiar with a lot of his stuff, but when I saw him in ECW it was fresh and crazy. It was a style that doesn't lend itself to a long and healthy career, and he injured himself many times. I gather he was in a lot of pain in his later years. But he's at peace now.

Oddly enough, the wrestler billed as Sabu was born in December, 1964 while the movie performer billed as Sabu died in December, 1963 at age 39!
