I agree re: comfort levels of nudity. But here's what these women should have done, "READ your contract carefully".  Hef is no dummy, and I'm sure he had a clause releasing all photos to his possession with the right to do as he pleased with said photos.

Exactly. There’s no way Hef didn’t have every woman sign a release. He didn’t want any legal problems and  had lawyers making sure he covered his ass (but not the womens’ asses - ouch 🤣).

I'm not sure it's true that disease or other trouble from implants is rare. We hear about women in entertainment taking them out for health reasons. My close friend chose not to get implants after her mastectomy because she distrusts the long-term implications for health.

Late last year the FDA updated its guidelines for implants and cites health data:

https://www.fda.gov/medical-devices/implants-and-prosthetics/breast-implants

These issues aren’t talked about enough. But even if a woman gets implants at 22 and they look fantastic, they don’t look that way forever. In 30 years, they’ll need to have them upgraded or take them out, costing $$$$. I wonder if young women are aware of that?

That's what the women in the documentary said, wasn't it? Something about being a porn star against their will.

Maybe we’re misunderstanding each other, and I’m sorry for that. I’m not sure what you mean by “being a porn star against their will.” Playboy was full frontal nudity/pornography. And I agree there’s nothing wrong with posing if that’s what a woman chooses. Are you saying that footage of them was used that they didn’t sign a release for?

I just looked her up, and you're right, Linda had so much trauma. It's heartbreaking. I felt awful enough for her just watching this episode. I don't know if I believe in hell, but I hope it exists for all the men who used and abused her. It's astonishing how sick people can be.

Yes, Dorothy was one of the most beautiful women ever imo and had star quality. What happened to her is heartbreaking. She was barely more than a kid who ended up in this crazy world.

They briefly spoke about Dorothy Stratten. I didn't realize it turned out as it did, with her boyfriend(?) being a violent pimp. 😱

Stratten was married to Paul Snider--he targeted her when she was 17, living in Vancouver, Canada. He recognized her potential and convinced her to forge her mother's signature on a release for nude photos, sent them to Playboy where they recognized her potential and immediately booked her for a shoot. Snider talked her into marrying him and after that the couple were invited to the Mansion a lot. After Stratten came out as a Playmate, and then Playmate of the Year, she started getting bookings for movies, TV episodes--she was having the kind of crossover success that no other Playmate had ever had. As Stratten's star was rising, the PTB at Playboy realized what a sleazy loser Snider was and starting icing him out, no longer inviting him to the Mansion. Her friends at Playboy warned her about how dangerous Snider seemed and eventually she separated from him. Peter Bogdanovich, a frequent guest at the Mansion, fell in love with her and cast her in his next movie, They All Laughed, which was a HUGE deal--a Playmate had been cast in a movie by an Oscar-winning director. Dorothy was getting further and further away from Snider and eventually he convinced her to meet him in LA and they could discuss divorce. Whereupon he ambushed her, raped her, sodomized her and then shot her in the face. His Galatea was developing a mind of her own and was no longer content to be the money train and that just couldn't be.

It all happened so fast. 1977-1980, just three years from the time she met Snider to her murder.

She had incredible potential. And she was still just a kid. She wasn't even old enough to legally drink when that cockroach murdered her.

It's unbelievably sad.

There is a very dark movie about her called Star 80.

Very good movie--but yes, incredibly dark. Bob Fosse at his darkest. There's also a TV movie which I've never seen and Bogdanovich's somewhat self-serving book The Killing of the Unicorn.

Kimberly, Hefner's second ex-wife, said in a personal statement, "All people should be encouraged to share their individual experience in this world, but no one should be emboldened to re-write the truth at the expense of another person's character. What the allegers who speak out now seem to ignore is that there were many of us throughout the years who were there with them as well. I'm saddened mostly that these accounts take light away from true victims of sexual abuse, and hope that in time those selling lies to defame Hef find peace within their own lives."

Repeat after me, Kimberly--MY EXPERIENCES ARE NOT YOUR EXPERIENCES. MY EXPERIENCES ARE NOT UNIVERSAL. You have absolutely no way to know what happened behind other people's closed doors. STFU.

The article also mentions Holly as being the first to tell her negative experience. What a surprise...NOT! Holly's biggest issue is that Hef never had any intention of marrying her, and after 5 years she finally realized the truth and didn't like it one bit. Too bad bitch. Your choice.

Internalized misogyny never fails to sadden me.

Did you know that Peter Bogdanovich married Dorothy’s younger sister (I think still a teen at the time) not long after Dorothy was murdered? Truth is definitely stranger than fiction.

There’s another movie about Dorothy starring Jamie Lee Curtis.

I’m glad you’ve been one of the lucky ones. Did your doctor discuss this issue with you before the surgery?

https://www.healthline.com/health/how-long-do-implants-last

Although breast implants don’t actually expire, they aren’t guaranteed to last a lifetime. The average saline or silicone implants may last anywhere from 10 to 20 years.

However, many are removed sooner due to complications or cosmetic concerns. Up to 20 percent of people have their implants removed or replaced within 8 to 10 years.

Yes, he married Dorothy's younger sister Louise when she was very young. Bogdanovich clearly had a lot of screws loose. It sounded as if he was completely obsessed with Dorothy and then subsequently transferred this to Louise. He also got into some media battles with Hefner. Bogdonavich accused Hef of exploiting Dorothy, but it was definitely a pot meet kettle situation.

Bogdanovich and Louise eventually divorced, but were married for much longer than anyone would have predicted. Just an absolutely bizarre story.

That's a myth. They say that because they used to have a 10 year warranty. This doctor breaks it down:

Indeed. Seems like too many women have internalized the toxicity. Breasts = feminine, “fat” = BAD, aging makes women less desirable (because it’s all about appearance),  women lie about abuse, etc. 😢

"The Big Playboy Lie" . A couple of the Playmates said that at the photoshoots, naked and sexier photos were taken but they were assured those wouldn't go public. Some time later, they showed up on soft-core porno sites.

Judging by my watching of Botched and similar shows, the filler, usually silicone, degrades, requiring them to be replaced. 🤷‍♂️

Yes, Hef definitely took advantage of the young women’s (NOT “girls) inexperience and naivety about contracts and releases. They should have given the women the contracts and encouraged them to have lawyers look over them before signing them. But they didn’t because they didn’t want the women to question any of the details. Very shady. But BTH, I think many of the young women would have simply signed anything, even if encouraged to read it all closely.

I am hesitant to watch the last episode because I don't know if I can take any more. It is infuriating that Hef's victims will never see justice.

I’ve been watching this series intermittently and am sickened by what I’ve heard these women say they were subjected to years ago and still think about to this day.  I’m amazed after hearing PJ’s story in particular that she went back to work the next morning after Cosby raped her.  Who knows what her financial situation was at the time and maybe it was easier said than done but why didn’t she just quit.   I hope she eventually got the counseling she needed after that horrible event.

She probably was in disbelief or a fight or flight mode. My heart breaks for her. She thought he was a friend and knew him for years.

I didn't like the journalist who claimed that it was easy to say that Jim Brown and Bill Cosby were rapists because of the color of their skin. They did get away with it. For decades. No one wanted to believe 'America's Dad' Cosby was such a trash person in real life. I don't know much about Brown, but I'm sure he was seen as the all American wholesome athlete.

Each episode gets sadder and sadder.

Exactly what I was coming here to same. All of these people should be ashamed. From the men that worked there as bodyguards or butlers or even to the women who were pimps or whatever the hell they were or the ones that were supposed to be watching over the women or the ones who worked in the office. Plus no one that was abused not one of them went to the police. All of these people with possibly the exception of the abused who could have been very traumatized should be ashamed incredibly ashamed. I am disgusted with all of them for choosing money & the limelight and the nearness to celebrities over human fucking compassion

Weird question to bring up, but what happened to all those sex tapes? Did Kimberly know about them and get rid of them? Did someone else? Were they still there when he died? We heard about the photos being destroyed, but what about the tapes?

Hef catered to the rich and famous to be part of the crowd and be accepted.  He had the women and the house secluded and all the toys and shit for the abuse to go on. Such a shame that the cleaners went in and cleaned up after the suicide. All of these years with Hef, Cosby, Weinstein and all the others. They all have gotten away with it and just kept getting away with it and all covered for each other. All the women were just disposable and more brought into this man's world. Such a damn shame.

I'm curious too. It's possible the tapes are still out there somewhere. I can't imagine Hef destroying the tapes himself prior to his passing. Sex tapes are much scarier during internet times.

Yup, it's amazing how much these men got away with. Jim Brown is still alive . . .

Enty lawyer posted a blind item that was widely considered to be about Hefner, and, after learning about all the video cameras I now believe it to be true that Hef had a vault of compromising photos and videos of famous celebrities. I can't remember all of them but I think that Dolly Parton was one that was mentioned but seemed unbelievable. Anyway Enty reported that Hef had chartered a boat and had taken the contents of his vault out in the ocean to destroy all the things which would hurt the people in them if they were to be discovered.

Despite looking like a Playmate,

I think that early in its history the mansion was thought of as a locus of Hollywood influence. Hef had hosted that jazzfest for a few years with great fanfare. An invitation to one of the large parties was an opportunity to rub shoulders with several people in the music and entertainment industry. I was surprised to see someone like Regis Philbin in some of the older clips. (He didn't look all that comfortable.)

Dolly is in costume. I have read several first hand accounts that she is almost unrecognizable without the platinum blond wig and make-up. Of course the surgical enhancements are another matter.

Learning about all of these horrendous stories now just makes me angrier that E! made “The Girls Next Door.” It really white washed the whole sordid, exploitative, abusive Playboy history by playing to a new audience of impressionable young women who watched and thought it was all fun and games. But Bridget is So SwEeT! That show and the Kartrashians were so toxic, IMO.

Every time someone mentions on of TGND, it's always said that Bridget is the nicest person in real life. What you see is what you get. Her and Holly are still close. I'm amazed that B never got a job hosting a game show or something like that. She, IMO, appeals to both men and women.

"The Shadow Mansions".  For those not "attractive" enough for Playboy, men in Hef's inner circle set up "shadow" mansions where women were exploited.

Wow, I never knew that Hef's friends set up "Shadow Mansions" for Hef's cast-offs before now! 😡

It broke my heart hearing about the friend who was carried off, never to be seen again, and her telling his father she hadn't seen him.  😢
