Leverage: Redemption in the Media

This news makes me so so SO happy!

Deadline Article (casting news for those who want to be super unspoiled).

I knew we wouldn’t get Hardison full time because proudly Hodge is a lead on his own show, but this makes me squee for two reasons. Female Hacker! And we might get NANA! If Nana is some sort of geeky hacking goddess I am SERIOUSLY going to die happy.

The article also tells us what Noah’s character will be too.

Apparently the show is going to be called Leverage: Redemption, if this is correct. I don't think the 'redemption' is needed but whatver.

Also, James Marsters will be working with Christian Kane once again (they were both in Angel season 5) to appear in an episode. Minor details about the episode plot in the link via describing James' character.

I suppose they felt they needed a sub-title to make it easier to differentiate this show from the original. The redemption part presumably means the new guy, Noah Wyle's character, I guess. I'd rather centre the show around the returning characters than the newbie, especially when that newbie is yet another white middle-aged man having a mid-life crisis, since those are ten a penny in the TV world, but I daresay it gives them an angle to spin the new show off, if not the most interesting version of that angle they could have chosen. Interestingly, this article names the character as Harry Wilson. Previous press releases named him as Harry Sullivan - which was also the name of a Doctor Who companion back in the 70s! I guess we'll find out which is correct eventually.

I wonder if Wylie was a backup plan. Maybe they wanted Hutton back but the allegations hit so Rodgers/Devlin went with a favorite of theirs. Wylie on ER was my second favorite character (hell I'm gonna watch reruns on Pop soon) but he hammed it up on Librarians too much and dragged down the vibe of the regular team.

I know Eriq LaSalle produces and directs more than acts but if we had our choice of ER alums (he was Benton, admittedly my absolute favorite. ) I'd say bring him in. He could be connected to Hardison and/or Nana looking to join up from his own past. I know we're getting Hardison's foster sister but still. I've had my fill of Wylie.

I'd love for Maggie to pop up and of course Sterling. Even without Nate they have history with the team.

Yes, I requested the change to reflect the new name.

When the reboot was announced, the old single thread became the Past Seasons thread.  If the new iteration is too different from the classic version of the show, we may want to split it back out.

According to several actors plus Roger's and Devlin's Twitters it sounds like there will be 16 episodes in the season (or maybe they'll be split but they all talked about 16.)

Very excited, I clicked through some of the links above and had a bit of a fangirl moment at the mini Angel reunion (though I can't remember if these two ever met in-show).

Yeah, they did. Spike met Lindsey in s5 before Angel knew he was back in LA, when Lindsey called himself Doyle to really screw around, in Soul Purpose and had some interactions after.  So Christian and James aren't strangers to working together.

It can be hard to tell from the trailer but Noah's character isn't giving me Flynn from Librarian's vibes so if Wyle isn't hamming it up he may not be too bad after all.  It looks good, I'm hyped.

Electric Entertainment Sells Crime-Thriller Series ‘Leverage: Redemption’ To Canada & Germany

Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment has sold the new series Leverage: Redemption to Bell Media in Canada and Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland in Germany.

The buyers have picked up all 16 episodes of the Leverage spinoff. Having Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland and Bell Media as our partners is a testament to the series itself and gives us the reassurance that our series will reach its audience in the best possible way.

I can't wait for this! I know it was unpopular at the time but Nate was always the weak link for me. I just never quite liked the actor, I always got an icky vibe from him, so while I did love the series, it was often with an asterisks, so I am very much looking forward to this version of it. I love all the rest of the characters, and Noah Wiley's character seems like he will fit in nicely, as well as Hardison's little sister.

Hopefully that means someone here in the UK will pick it up too. Fingers crossed!

I've also got all my fingers crossed for the quality of this spinoff/reboot/whatever you want to call it. It can be so hard to recapture the magic, for a show like this.

And I've also got all my fingers crossed for fandom reaction, since so many of the fans I run across online tend to be hardcore 'OT3' shippers who passionately believe that Hardison, Parker and Eliot are in a canon poly relationship, fully expect to see that on their screens in these new episodes, and will accept nothing less. If pressed, they will admit that their interpretation of the relationship is 'ambiguous' on-screen - they mostly point to the season finale, when Nate and Sophie leave; Sophie asks Eliot to look after the other two and he replies, 'to my dying day', which, you know, is just a statement of commitment but to a shipper is practically a marriage vow. But they also believe that showrunner John Rogers confirmed the relationship off-screen, which...he didn't. He just said that fans have the right to interpret the sub-text of the show however they want, and that's canon to them personally. I really don't expect to see the three characters all in bed together on-screen in these new episodes (not that kind of show, and not that kind of on-screen relationship, whatever the shippers choose to believe), but there is a large and vocal fandom out there who will be pissed if we don't and will scream bloody murder about it, no matter how good the show is. Stans are such hard work!

(My fingers are tired from all that crossing!)

LOL! This gives me Supernatural flashbacks!

My brain can't even process that concept. I had no idea Leverage inspired that kind of fandom.

I think Parker will be the trickiest character to handle. She came so far emotionally in the original, I don't think they can write her the same way after 10 years.

Leverage Crew Details the Thrill of Reuniting for Redemption: 'Everybody's Hair Was Standing on End'

leverage-redemption-cast.jpg

IMDb TV releases the first eight of 16 episodes on Friday, July 9

Noah Wyle plays Harry Wilson, a high-powered lawyer who is looking for redemption. We will also get to meet one of Harry Wilson's shady clients played by Reed Diamond.

Timothy Hutton who played Nate in the original series has been dead for a year when the new series starts.

Beth Riesgraf who plays Parker has started at least a dozen "Leverage" teams worldwide.

Aldis Hodge who plays Hardison had major scheduling issues and couldn't appear in as many episodes as they would have liked. Luckily Hardison’s younger foster sister, Breanna (played by Charmed‘s Aleyse Shannon), is a savvy hacker/maker that can "pinch hit" for Hardison.

Of course she has, LOL!

I'm so excited - although I'm not sure my brain won't occasionally fall into Librarian mode seeing and Wyle and Kane side by side wondering when Colonel Braid will show up. And it does not help at all that Rebecca Romijn has found a home in Star Trek. That's one hell of a complicated Venn diagram to navigate.

Huh.  I thought Noah would reprise the character he played on the original series.  He was the hacker in the mirror team that challenged our Leverage team.

That was Wil Wheaton, not Noah Wyle. 😉

I apologize for asking such a stupid question, but will I be able watch this through my Prime account, or do I have to pay? Or watch ads? The more I hear about this the more excited I get, but this whole IMDBtv thing has me all confuzzled, lol.

Wasn't super thrilled when I heard Noah Wyle would be joining the show, since I didn't care for him on Librarians, but fingers crossed that he'll be reined in a bit and his character won't detract from our crew.

Also, I cheered when we got a "Dammit, Hardison!" in the trailer. 🥰

IMDb TV is free but I think you have to access it from the Amazon Prime Video app. It's in the channels list. You don't have to be a Prime subscriber though. It's confusing for sure.

Eta: there will be ads.

For anybody wondering why Hardison is not in many of the episodes, he has two major movie parts, 1) a starring role as DeCourcy Ward in "City on a Hill" and 2) Justice Society of America member Carter Hall, a.k.a. Hawkman in Dwayne Johnson's upcoming DCEU movie Black Adam which is currently filming.

A clip from Leverage: Redemption released on Friday at Comic-Con@Home. This clip is from the second set of 8 episodes, releasing in the Fall, this particular episode is directed by Beth Riesgraf.

The setup: LeVar Burton guest-starring as Mr. Blanche, a small town librarian who is described as very kind, empathic and extremely liked by locals. A voracious reader, he fantasizes about being a hero like in the books he reads. It seems like the grift, but it is actually a gift: Mr. Blanche is quietly battling Stage 4 cancer, so the Leverage team plans a “make believe adventure” to lift his spirits.

Elliot and Breanna (played by Christian Kane and Aleyse Shannon) aim to stealthily trek over to the library logs to see what sort of novels Mr. Blanche favors, after which Parker (Beth Riesgraf), Sophie (Gina Bellman) and Harry (Noah Wyle) debate what to do with their findings.

So awesome, and LeVar Burton as a librarian?  Nice shoutout to Reading Rainbow.  And did anyone else notice he was reading a book by Detective Bonanno in that clip?

That sounds like a fun - and very sweet - episode.  No bad guys, probably no tension watching, wondering how they are going to make it through past another baddie, just fun.  And heartwarming.  Can't wait.

I dunno, knowing Leverage, there will probably be a twist, and that twist will probably be that the fake adventure turns into a genuine adventure!
