Episode Discussion II: The TFGH

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?

I know it’s because the actress wishes to be modest and I support her choice,

me too, but are blazers the only way to remain modest?  I suppose they are better than Amy Farrah Fowler's endless cardigans....  But really, long sleeves and a high neckline, and she should be good.

Lulu: "Camilla's quartet was in New Zealand when she was supposedly in LA giving birth to Gio!"  Me: Or maybe she decided not to go on a tour to the other side of the world when she was 8 1/2 months pregnant.  This is so stupid. Lulu finding out from the other musician was so unearned. Too many McGuffins, you're only allowed one.

Lulu tells Cody that Lois and Brook Lynn have been hiding Brook Lynn's baby in plain sight.  This Lulu is a bitch.

LW and CW looked like they were having fun with the Carly/Nina fight. Too bad I wasn't. Why do TV writers think that cat fights are entertaining?

Sonny to NIna:  "You're the one who got Willow's kids taken from her."  I HATE it when people fighting a wrong are the ones blamed for the consequences.

I liked Ned teasing Tracy. They are at odds too much of the time.

Curtis, the Duke of Welling said "Publish and be damned." Take his advice and deal with the consequences.

Am I supposed to care about the custody battle for Wylie and Amelia when I never see Willow with them?

That preview reminded me of when Robin hauled back and slapped Cujo so hard her body jerked back a step! And Robin is like a half foot shorter than Cujo!

NuNuLooLoo and Con artist Cody can take SEVERAL seats and STFU.

"You're not a mother and you never will be" and saying if Willow had been raised by her, she'd be an even worse mother than she is now and she (Willow) doesn't deserve to be a mother is about as hateful a statement as what Carly said to Robin. I understand why Nina hit her; Carly turned it into a brawl.

I did like how Nina shot down Carly's "a mother makes sacrifices for her children" crap. Where's a lightning bolt when you need one.

Brook Lynn, the Quartermaine mansion is not Gio's "own home."  Your freeloading mother never left and then asked Monica if she could move Gio in there. I don't feel sorry for Brook Lynn for that obvious arrow to the heart about children from Dante, since he would know better than to say it if she had ever told him the truth. After today's show, I am actively rooting for NuLulu to totally upend Lois's life. Enough with the Bensonhurst crew propping Gio and the anvils about Dante and Gio.

Dante was spot on about Jason as a parent re: Danny. I chuckled at Sasha looking like she wanted to pout about what he said and then having a freak out to Jason about Ric tapping her to testify on the Michael (Carly)/ Willow custody date.

Drew smirking to Curtis about what would 'likely' happen to him, Portia, and their daughter if they don't comply and the truth comes out, was gross.

I laughed that Sonny looked offended about Carly being called a psycho bitch. I will be surprised if the writers don't put them back together down the line. Sonny and Carly truly deserve each other.

The woman not only remembered Camilla from 22 years ago, but also had a photo of her, in a bikini, from 22 years ago, at the ready to send to Lulu.  Sure.  I always have photos of my co-workers from 22 years ago, just sitting there, ready to send to a complete stranger.

This would be much better if Lulu was only focussing on Lois.  The fact that she has BLQ in her cross hairs as well, when she knows that BLQ didn't know her baby was a boy until she told her, but is now including BLQ in the deception is so annoying.

Except the focus won't be on Lois, where it should be.  Lulu is determined to muck up BLQ's life and that's where the majority of the blame will fall.

Really? She's absolutely correct about Lois. She just doesn't know that Gloria conspired with Lois, not Brook Lynn.

I'm surprised we didn't see Tracy get a thoughtful look when in front of her, they were discussing Olivia sending Dante to camp because of behavior. Brook Lynn told Tracy in very recent history that Lulu said in their confrontation that the baby's father "has a right to know."

She is correct about Lois, although Lois could not have known that Camilla would die and Gio would need a home with her. But Lulu is determined to smear Brook Lynn with being a liar and a cheat even though she saw how Brook Lynn reacted to hearing the news that the baby was a boy.

Part of her wants Dante to know his child but it feels like more of the push is to hurt Brook Lynn., like the rigmarole of hunting down Camilla's former quartet mates when she could just do a DNA test. Why so determined? Because Brook Lynn tried to seduce Dante earlier? Ironic since Carly, who created the situation, is now Lulu's BFF in this.

Lulu's whole reasoning about how BLQ was in to break up her and Dante so that she could tell Dante about their kid is like building castles on quicksand. And she sounds unhinged. Kristina isn't the only one who needs a straight jacket and a padded room.

It's always nice to see women in their fifties, grandmothers to boot bitchslapping the contour out of each others faces.

And that's another retcon to fit into this stupidass story. When Olivia first came on the show, she was all about how great Dante was, what a good son he was; never gave her trouble; made sure to raise him right and away from the criminal element. And we learned he was a cop, when she was talking to a yet to be cast Dante on the phone.

But sure. Send him to camp for behavior issues, so that he looks more like the hypocrite when the reveal to everyone happens.

You know Carly gets into cat fights, e.g. Robin, Sam.

She verbally clawed Nina's face about both herself and Willow as mothers asserting that she knows what it really means to be a mother (as if she doesn't have a severely injured child and a dead child because of her own choices), then got hit for it. She hit Nina hard back, and it turned into a brawl that ended with Josslyn running in, pulling back and restraining Nina.

That fight between Carly and Nina was so bad.  And you know this storyline is absurd when JOSSLYN, of all people, is making sense.

Speaking of bad, shut up, Lulu.  What's next?  Is she now going to fly to New Zealand and discover Camilla was drinking espresso every day, thus "I found another clue that she was never pregnant."  Her ~journalist skills are for the birds.

That fight gave me second, third, and fourth hand embarrassment. Especially the screaming-two over 50 year old women rolling around in the floor, pulling each other’s hair like 5 year olds.

I just zoned out during the family “meeting” in the mansion. Seriously? Still? It’s beyond lame and stupid into farce.

And the whole NuNuLooLoo “investigating” just made me roll my eyes.

SHUT UP, Mooby.

So then, starting tomorrow everything will be on pause for this dreaded Ball?

I wish Cody wasn't helping Lulu. Let him flirt with Molly and see what happens there. He doesn't need to be involved so heavily in Lulu's revenge search.

"I"m not a little kid anymore, Aunt Lois!" Legally, no, but you don't have much life experience, Gio. But what does Dante want? Gio is practically opening a vein from guilt.

What Jason said: "I'm glad that Danny has so many people looking out for him." What Jason means: "So I don't have to be an attentive parent."

LOL that Portia is in Curtis's phone under her full name.

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but Carly was right about Nina not being a good mother. She’s so afraid of losing Willow that she refuses to do the one thing that would put an end to the Drew nonsense once and for all; tell her that she and Drew slept together. Shame Joss walked in and restrained Nina lol!

so Curtis had the foresight to record his conversation with Drew. Interesting to see where this goes now. Because for all Drew’s posturing, Portia DID tamper with Heather’s test results and she DID give Jacinda the ketamine.

is it too much to hope that the ‘surprise’ guest at the nurses ball is Camila back from the dead and she finally puts an end to this stupid Gio story? 🤣

Really, an entire Q family meeting is called to discuss how mad Dante should be allowed to be at Gio?

But of all the stupid things in this episode, the worst was Joss' super pathetic commando moves to restrain Nina. She basically gently held her hand. I guess all those weeks in the cement bunker swatting at Vaugn did not pay off.

Watching Lois coddle Gio, how Lois and Carmine took care of him, thanks to her an Sonny. Says how much Lois looked out for him.

All while she attacks the Qs, don't let them know anything and lives to freeload in their house.

Dante was right about Sam always bad cop to Danny worshipping mobster gun bike riding gun rotting Jason.

Carly gonna act like she's a good mother?  The Carly who raised her children in the mobster world. One kid dead, Michael dead at one point  and countless things. Sonny at least gets it, Michael would not want the same custody fights that he was put through. Carly hasn't learned a thing. She thinks she's a healthy environment?

Surprised Curtis isn't killing Drew.

Nobody noticed there was no photos of Camilla pregnant?

They're saying June 2 alot, I guess Michael returns that day.

Sasha has no purpose on this show or this baby.

it would be nice. if someone would explain how exactly this is hurting the kids. because sorry people get divorced all the time Carly and end up with other people Carly who aren't good for their kids Carly and life goes on Carly so this is basically you being pissed off Carly that boohoo Michael got hurt Carly and since he can't defend himself, you decide you need to be all Mama Bear

And i love it again that Carly decided that she needed to throw Nixon falls in Nina's face like Carly hasn't hid the truth  from countless people. i wish Nina had flung that in Carly's face when she's all about protecting Children.

but with that being said, Carly also kinda wasn't wrong. damn it.

I laughed when, right after Lulu hung up, she got a text notification and the picture was there. I couldn't text someone a picture I took a month ago that quickly.

Carly is coming across like she knows Michael is going to be pissed at her when he finds out all she's doing, but she is going to do it anyway, because she knows better. That's why she doesn't to call him and talk to him about the custody hearing, because she knows he'll tell her to postpone it or call it off.

TeamLulu against Brooklyn always. Her POV is Brooklyn accepted money to destroy her relationship. She tried to seduce her long time friend in the process. When that didn't work, Brooklyn resorted to drugging and attempted rape. And now Lulu knows that Brooklyn has been lying to Dante for twenty years while being his "good buddy." Lulu owes Brooklyn zero grace LIKE EVER! E-V-E-R! It makes perfect sense she'd question the validity of Brooklyn's claim that she didn't know it was a boy. That she doesn't know who the child is. Because Brooklyn has shown Lulu she is a lying liar who lies.

Furthermore, since coma-wake-age-upage, Brooklyn's response to Lulu has been, 'Ugh! Get over all the things that happened when you know you were in a coma. Whatever! Blah, blah, blah. Like move on. Don't care, you suck, Lulu. Oh, I tried to ruin your relationship and drugged and nearly raped your boo that one time! Pfft! That was ages ago! Move on, bitch.' No apology from her, no grace from Brooklyn. Nada.

Instead, she's all the president of the 'I HATE LULU' club spreading lies about her and stirring up trouble with people Lulu is close to (Maxie and Tracy). Mind you, these are people that Lulu lost four years of her life with... but Brooklyn doesn't care!

So, again, TeamLulu all the way. I understand completely why she thinks so little of Brooklyn. Brooklyn has given her every reason to do so. And she's given Lulu no reason to think that Brooklyn is not a lying, lowdown heifer-beast.

20 hours ago, YaddaYadda said:

There's some truth to Lulu's reasoning. Brook Lynn and Chase had a conversation in March (this year) where she explained she wanted Carly's money (I guess it seemed easier than professional employment for a company or two), but she also wanted to see if Dante still had feelings for her. She told Chase she was considering telling Dante about the baby if he acted on feelings for her/cheated on Lulu with her. However, the Show's audience saw how Lulu walked in on Brook Lynn trying to rape a drugged Dante and told her to get out. Brook Lynn never told him.

Brook Lynn hasn't, and most likely won't, admit to Chase specifically that she drugged Dante and tried to rape him, unless forced by someone who saw it (Lulu). She doesn't want to damage her marriage, her current friendship with Dante and also doesn't want Dante and Chase's friendship damaged. These are all possibilities the more Brook Lynn and Dante's history gets attention. So whenever NuLulu mentions Brook Lynn's past, Brook Lynn snaps back.

but none of that stuff happened just before Lulu went into a coma. unless i'm missing something and Lulu forgot a good chunk of her life and is reliving that part of the past.

I do remember Lulu going after BLQ first basically being all friends with Maxie and BLQ saying a lot of crap happened in the 4 years you were gone . I don't remember BLQ being a Cow to Lulu at all until all this stuff started.

what lies is BLQ spreading to Maxie and Tracy? because I remember Tracy talking to Lulu and it's not like Lulu went that's a lie

I'm being very serious if its not clip of a day, Im living through you guys but Lulu is all BLQ is a poop teenage mother because she made all these decisions without informing Dante. cool. and Lulu who knows this secret instead of simply going. you know. "Dante i found something out you and BLQ slept together and have a kid. go talk to her." and dropping it is doing all this CSI work and flinging it in BLQ's face basically telling her with her actions of  "hey i can shatter your peace of mind whenever and however I want."

I'm not justifying BLQ's past actions, and i'm on the record when BLQ found out she was pregnant - in my belief system she should have told dante because I do believe fathers should have a say in what happens to said baby) but BLQ ALSO has a right (from how a lot of people act) to deal with it in her own way and her own way was to give it to adoption and not think about it anymore.

Just like Lulu seduced Georgie's Husband Dillion, got pregnant and got pissed off at anyone who said boo to a dickey bird that it was her right to deal with HER pregnancy anyway SHE wanted and why didn't people respect that.

that's the issue i have here. Lulu should shut her mouth or poop and get off the pot. she's doing neither. as much as I hate Carly, at least she picks one and then does it and then that's where it ends until the truth comes out.

and that's the thing. It's about DANTE needs to know because it will end DANTE'S relationship with BLQ (who she doesn't like) screw everyone else who gets hurt - including the person who doesn't know he was adopted.  She snarked at ER's Lulu prior to the coma, for not tearing up the divorce papers Dante sent as well as dating Dustin.  In NuLulu and Brook Lynn's first scene together, when she brought up how Brook Lynn tried to break up her and Dante, Brook Lynn's reaction was to snap at her that it was in the past and to let it go because everyone has moved on. Then she gave NuLulu the evil eye for coming to visit Tracy in the Quartermaine mansion  at Christmas.

BLQ told Tracy that Lulu found out her secret and has been holding it over her head, which is not accurate. She told Maxie, circumstances have changed so you have to choose me or Lulu. You can't be friends with both of us anymore.

As for today: Josslyn using Nina's microphone on the red carpet to call Drew a piece of trash to his face with a bunch of people in the area was the most interesting thing she's done in a while. Dante agreeing with Nina about Lulu looking beautiful and beaming at her was a nice moment esp. after the mention of Rocco and Charlotte.

Kristina being a bitch to Alexis deserves a slap (and I don't like violence).

Drew deserves to be taken down by the Quartermaines (get him, Ned) for framing Tracy for Nina and Portia's actions. It sucks for Chase that he had to miss escorting Brook Lynn and Mac is missing an event that is so important to his niece because Drew wanted Tracy arrested/publicly embarrassed.

There aren't enough eyerolls and vomit emojis in the world for Willow and Drew on the red carpet and Nina gushing about her directly to the camera.

It's a sad day when the only people IMO who are cute and light together on the red carpet are Cody and Molly.

That whole red carpet was just boring AF. Drew is a smarmy SOB.

I'm shocked Curtis is talking to Portia still.

The dress Emma was wearing was hideous.

Willow is so worried about losing her kids that she'd doing everything to lose her kids. Harmony didn't raise her to be smart, that's for sure.

I'm enjoying all of the passive-aggressive (and not so passive-aggressive) comments everyone is throwing at everyone else.

Does Kristina not remember she nearly killed Ric? Just because he hasn't told her he remembers doesn't mean he doesn't. She's so stupid. Alexis really needs to tell her she knows what's going on. Kristina isn't acting that reasonably the way it is. ETA: Alexis told her!

Emma's dress looks like it was made by a very amateur sewer. The straps were so sloppy.

Willow's haircut is terrible, or at least they way it's being styled now is.

The Nurses Ball is always cringe but that red carpet was especially bad with all the sniping at everyone. The writers are not Julian Fellowes nor the actors Dame Maggie Smith. And no Joss, you didn't score points off of Drew, you just showed what a piece of trash you can be.

Dante knows that Brook Lynn has issues with Lulu so why did he invite Lulu to Brook Lynn's home to drive her to the Ball from there? Just pick Lulu up at her own home since you're all going in separate cars. This storyline is really wrecking Dante, who used to be one of the few good people on the show.

I liked the dresses of Olivia, Nina, Kristina and Emma's although not a fan of the orange. I liked Molly's too although I do envy women who can wear a dress braless. Tracy and Alexis were too matronly, women "of a certain age" are not dead yet.

There was no reason to arrest Tracy on the red carpet or even at the ball. She's not going anywhere Mac.

Sebastian wins the episode. Nice understated look on Lucy although that's going to be blasted soon.

So is Michael on the plane and going to  make his appearance at the ball? Like Jason dropping through the roof a few years ago.

I think that Nina is right though, Willow has become such a Stepford mistress that she will blame Nina for anything to do with Drew. And it will reinforce her romantic vision that she and Drew are meant to be together since he dropped Nina as soon as he "fell in love" with Willow.

We'd have to assume it is, otherwise, who else would care about watching Willow and Drew on the red carpet.  Though what we saw of his hands, they looked pretty good and healed .

Assuming it's MIchael and he's about to show up at the ball, kudos to everyone behind the scenes for keeping his identity a secret, whether it's Chad coming back or someone new.

Why is Lulu giving him a pass for not telling his best friend that he is a father?

Cody said he dropped a pregnant BLQ at the bus stop and never saw her again until he moved to PC.  He assumed she'd gotten an abortion, so at that point there would be no reason for him to tell Dante that she'd been pregnant that summer.

I am not a fan of slapping, no matter who's giving or getting it.

There should be ongoing mentions of how Nina has hired a martial arts instructor to teach her Krav Maga.  So then the next time she mixes it up with Cujo, she can savagely beat her with minimal effort.

Did Mac not check for fingerprints on the ketamine?

Fingerprints.  Schmingerprints.  You're talking cray cray now!!!

Anyone who knows Tracy, knows she's not going to leave an empty vial of Ketamine in her car.  That's amateur hour.  Mac should be smarter than that. In fact, I wish they would have had Mac says something like:  "You and I both know you didn't drug Drew, but I had to bring you in.  Let's play Go Fish for an hour and then I'll release you".

Culture Check: How can we discuss a character's or actor's appearance without objectifying them? How can we express likes or dislikes and still respect an individual's humanity or be mindful that a character represents a person someone else might relate to or identify with?
