  1. I had no idea what they were going for in FJ tonight. I said, "Adventure seeking", which, I suppose, is related to "risk taker". Never in a million years would I have been able to figure out that they wanted Type A. But I did get wood, Lost In Space, bodice, escape from jail, and The Glass Menagerie. Former champ made a smart wager. As did the new champ.
  2. You can (or could, in some ads), but you probably won't.
  3. Phil definitely looks better clean-shaven.
  4. Whee! Such fun watching the track women outrun the goats. I was kind of hoping that everyone would get to continue, even though Phil said the last team to arrive "will be eliminated." Oh well! Oh, show, how I have missed you! But now I'm going to have that song stuck in my head for daaaaayyoooo... er, days.
  5. Heh, I pre-guessed either Stan Lee or Alfred Hitchcock. Of course I went with Lee when the answer was revealed. So, a pre-instaget? I also got the Dakotas, Earth Day, Canada, England, the United States, and maharaja. Congrats to Kevin! I can totally picture him as old Luke Skywalker, too. Anyone else want to see the woman catch a hard-boiled egg?
  6. If I'd been the champ, and was the only one left, I think I would have bet at least ten grand. Just because I could. Instaget FJ for me, and I don't even like horror books or movies -- and I really am not a fan of clowns. Middle guy really did look like Seth Rogan! It was a little distracting. Good on him for trying -- too bad it didn't work out. Lots of TS last night! I got As You Like It, bank, drought, Maple, Spruce, Daytona 500, Richard Petty (after initially thinking "Tom"), copy, Madeline, and ICU. I dislike car racing, and didn't think I knew anything about it, but apparently I've learned some things by cultural osmosis. I live in a NASCAR part of the country, after all.
  7. I liked that one, too. It was a fun read, though for no apparent reason I kept picturing Bridget's house as a lot smaller than it clearly was.
  8. Instaget FJ for me tonight -- and an asterisk! I've known about the migration and wintering grounds of the Monarch there for a long time, but I also saw something recently about tourism there, and how it's built around them. Sorry middle guy, but I'm really glad you blew it on your DD. Between the rocking and whatever he was doing to the buzzer, I could barely watch him. The only TS I got (or was it a missed DD?) was Bastille Day. I thought Alex sounded a little rough at the beginning. I hope he's doing okay!
  9. A quick trip to Taco Bell for lunch on the way to Home Depot.....
  10. Can you still rent carpet cleaners? I think our local grocery store used to have them for rent.
  11. I hadn't seen that one -- much less bad than the one with the emu sticking its head in the sand (which is stupid). But I do believe the males incubate the eggs, which are large-ish (not volleyball-sized!) and a really pretty green.
  12. Same, @Prevailing Wind. I was meant to go on two fairly big trips this year, but the June one obviously didn't happen. I suspect the December one won't either. I think I miss travelling the most.
  13. It is interesting that the two younger people missed FJ. I guess it was before their time -- or no longer required reading?. But it's one of my favorites, so it was an instaget for me. I also got Lawrence of Arabia and caduceus.
  14. I just finished the sequel to "One Of Us Is Lying" ("One Of Us Is Next"), and am about to start Carl Hiaasen's newest -- "Squeeze Me". I picked it up from the library this afternoon. I really liked "One Of Us Is Next" -- it wasn't as obvious as the first one. With the first one, I figured it out right from the start, but it was fun finding out how. With the sequel, it was much harder (I thought) to figure out who was really involved in all the goings on. I've been a Carl HIaasen fan since I read "Tourist Season" back in the late 80s, so I'm looking forward to diving in.
  15. And then there's the doll that pees glitter and poops charms. I only caught a glimpse of the commercial, and was too traumatized to skip back and watch it fully. Or to search for the ad (or the doll!) online.
  16. I wouldn't necessarily call it one of my favorites, but I don't hate the Liberty Mutual one where the guy is dressed as a cell phone, gets splashed, and jumps in a bag of rice. It's less bad than so many of their other ones.
  17. #4. I dislike hot weather, and snow means I have to shovel. Spring brings rain that means the grass grows too fast for me to keep up with cutting it. (I mow over the fallen leaves, so no raking for me!
  18. I travelled in my mind all around the Caribbean, but finally landed on the correct island in the nick of time. I think I barely had time to write it down before the music stopped, but I know I finished writing before the first answer was revealed. Dunno why the new champ bet anything, really, since it was a runaway. As for TS, I got Little Boy Blue, plate, Koh-i-noor, and cigarettes.
  19. Raised Methodist here, with preachers all through the family, and forced to go to Sunday School AND church every week. And Vacation Bible School usually more than once in any given summer. And I missed FJ. I should have known it, but the name just wouldn't come to me. Oh well. But I did get ore, cubit*, Barcelona, and Bed, Bath and Beyond, so there's that. *I almost don't want to admit it, but "What's a cubit?" was in my head in Bill Cosby's voice. I hate that he turned out to be a heinous criminal. "Noah" was comedy gold.
  20. FJ was an instaget for me tonight -- and like @Katy M, thought it was too obvious, but couldn't think of anything else, so I stuck with it. Argentina didn't occur to me! If it had, I might have switched. Claire-Marie's vocal fry was killing me. Not sad that the champ repeated. I only managed three TS tonight -- Wyatt Earp, sharia, and messenger.
  21. That especially sucks in a year of suckitude. RIP, Eddie.
  22. FJ was one of those I feel like I should have gotten, but did not. Alas. Off to a great start this week! NOT! I did, however, get the TS of Madagascar, bear, pacemaker, JFK, Cicero, and Julie Walters. Cicero was a lucky guess -- he was the only orator I could think of.
