Vacations: Where To Go, What To See, Where To Eat
Browncoat replied to tribeca's topic in Everything Else
That one looks interesting! I'll have to give it a closer look. I'm so tired of seeing boring black suitcases, though. Maybe I should look into folding luggage carts and see if I can transform my backpack bag to a wheelie bag. -
Vacations: Where To Go, What To See, Where To Eat

Anyone have any recommendations for a carry-on suitcase? My current case is a backpack style, and I love it, but it's getting unwieldy as I get older. It's fairly small (about 38-39L capacity), and suits me well -- I don't need a larger bag, just something that's a little easier to maneuver with around airports. I was exhausted toting my backpack bag from the plane to my car the last time I flew. I've looked at Away and Solgaard so far. The sizes of their carry-ons seem about right. I wish they came in more colors though. I'll miss my purple bag if I get a new one. -
Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

I love the Simon & Schuster crossword puzzle books. My peeve is that they are no longer spiral bound, and no longer have a rigid cover. Yes, there were fewer puzzles per book, but it was so easy to change pages and so convenient to have the rigid surface when working the puzzles. -
I get all that. I'm just not sure the fight club was necessary. Clearly everyone at the fight club remembered him -- even put down big bucks for the bets. And the head chef at the fancy deconstructed scallop restaurant certainly remembered him -- even recognized him under all that hair. I suppose it was a confidence-builder? Robin believed no one remembered him and he had to prove it to himself? I do suspect that a lot of people in the theater where I saw it were disappointed that it wasn't a typical Nic Cage action film!

I will add Mal and Zoe from Firefly as an example of a good platonic relationship.- 634 replies

I didn't see the point of the fight club. Possibly because I don't really understand how it works, and why the guy kept beating and kicking Robin after he was clearly down. The pig was really pretty, though. On the whole, I preferred "The Truffle Hunters" -- even though it had no real plot, just the general lives of a few truffle hunters in Italy.

Y'all seem to be talking about crossword puzzles online, but I will add a peeve about paper crossword puzzle books -- when the puzzles span two pages and you have to keep flipping back and forth. Give me a complete puzzle per page, please! I'm not a fan of online crosswords because of the way I work through the clues. -
It's also possible that Andrew simply couldn't remember due to the TBI. I suspect his tics might have been related as well.

4/5 this week. Was today an asterisk? If so, I got the asterisk, too.

I had to think about FJ for a second, but I got it in plenty of time to write it down. Do you think the other guy misunderstood the clue? He wrote down the two most obvious ones that are in the routine. The only TS I got was patent. There might have been others, but I tend to pay less attention to blowout games.

They were Resident Assistants at my college as well.

It was fine. I was trying to be funny, comparing his pronunciation to Alex's.

I got Peter Sellers from the clue rather than from the photo.

I don't get it, either. -
I didn't get FJ -- couldn't think of anything except Bogota, and figured that was incorrect. I did get the TS of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Peter Sellers. If LeVar wants this job, he's going to have to learn how to pronounce Camus. I don't like the way Matt picks clues.
-
I suppose I should clarify -- I've always heard the phrase as, "idle hands are the devil's workshop."

I like LeVar Burton, but I don't think he's doing such a great job. He's too shouty for my taste.

Instaguess FJ for me tonight. Sinking made me think of a storm, which led me to the correct response. Matt is starting to get on my last nerve. Also, I've never heard, "Idle hands are the devil's playthings" before, but Mr. Google tells me it's a thing, so I guess I can't get too worked up about it. I did not get any TS.

I finally watched last night's show. I think LeVar got worse.

I haven't watched yesterday's game yet, but I did run through the archives. I'll watch later today so observe LeVar again. FJ yesterday was an instaget for me, and I also got the TS of Hurricane Rita and Flo-Jo.

Commercials That Annoy, Irritate or Outright Enrage
Browncoat replied to Maverick's topic in Commercials
We tried. Oh, how we tried. But 30-40mph winds, plus sleet, plus a driving downpour of rain prevented us from getting close enough to see the bubbling lava. Even if we had been able to make the entire trek out, we wouldn't have been able to see it because the clouds/fog were so thick and low. So we only got to see the steaming lava. We could hear it popping and crackling, and it was hot not too far from the leading edge, so it was still a pretty great experience. I looked at the live cam today, and it's a beautiful mostly sunny day. Of course. -
Years ago, I had a stomach virus, and made the mistake of eating a red popsicle. I thought I was throwing up blood!

Back to Dr. Rick for a minute. I can’t speak for all flying at the minute, but if you fly to Iceland, you will have a paper boarding pass. There is currently no early check-in, no self-service kiosks, no electronic ticketing. You have to go to the check-in desk, show all your COVID documents and entry paperwork and receive a paper boarding pass. And you have to pay extra for any food on board the plane, so I absolutely took my own snacks. -
I liked jello, too. Warm, liquid jello, regular jello, or jello with extra gelatin so you could pick it up — I liked it all. As long as it was red jello, of course.

Rum and Coke. It's the only drink that ever made me throw up when I got drunk on it. Also, generic beer -- it came in a can with just the word "BEER" written in large black letters on a white label. Nasty stuff.
